How to Photostream in Aperture?

Hi guys,
All 3 boxes are checked in Preferences>Photostream, the curved arrow in Photostream keeps going around in Inspector, but no monthly projects are created with images in them, and none of the new images downloaded to my MBook Pro, while I'm on the road, are showing up in Photostream.
All the ones that are in Aperture on my iMac at home are there though. I left my iMac on while I'm gone to make sure Photostream will make them available there as well.
Thanks a lot,
Raphael

Show the Inspector HUD, expand the Web section if it is hidden, select "Photo Stream".  Is that not working?

  • How to "reset" for Aperture pictures to transfer to Photostream

Usually it works fine to drag a set of pictures from Aperture to Photostream and the pictures shows up on iPad and iPhone.
bu I had about 800 picture that I wanted to get to photostream... about 650 made and the the 1000 limit was hit. So after using iPhoto on iPad to make a journal I removed all the picture and drage the remaining 150 to Photstream in Aprerture.... but they do not transfer!
Have now tried this several tie and none of the 150 pictures transfer  to photostream which is now at about 200 pictures. Other pictures transfer fine to Photostream.
How do i "reset" the photostream? so I can get these pictures transferd?

Well, Thomas, Photostream has worked, but not consistently, nor predictably. Ironically, when I'm taking snaps of no consequence, they invariably show up in Photostream in Aperture. Last night, the set of progress photos for my container garden, which I wanted to share with my interest group on Facebook, never did show up in Photostream on the computer. I had to email them from my phone, save them to the desktop, etc.
I've now deleted all the photos in Photostream from the phone and will, after I've verified that I have copies of images I need, delete all the images from Photostream in Aperture. Done all the routines (restarting devices, etc.). While I normally wouldn't take issue with your comment, I need to point out that there are a lot of complaints of exactly this behaviour here - and of the millions that use the technology, what proportion would either know to, or take the time to, report it in this forum? Based on decades of using software from Apple and others, in my opinion, Photostream needs work.

  • Photostream and Aperture

    Hi,
I have an iPhone and therefore want to use Photostream with Aperture. So I went to the Aperture settings and have all selected under the Photostream tag (not sure if the terms are correct, I'm not using an english system). When I take photos with my iPhone, the next time I have WiFi it will upload them to the iCloud. The next time I will open Aperture on my MacBook, it creates a project called Dec 2011 Photostream for example. I also see the photos in the media section (I'm quite sure this is not the correct name... What I mean is the section where you have also the faces and places folder.).
My question here: Will the Dec 2011 Photostream project be deleted after the 30 days or are all the photos in that project fully locally saved on my MacBook? Because I now miss some of the photostream pictures taken in August and September. And I realized I am not quite sure how to import photostream images so that they are not deleted after 30 days (well I thought I know...).
So, to summarize: I'm missing some photos taken with my iPhone, dragged from the Month 2011 Photostream project into another project or renamed that project. So the question arises, what did I make wrong?
I hope my problem is reasonably clear! Thanks for advice!

    Hello DaPhil,
Is your profile up to date? I assume you are running OS 10.7.x Lion, if you are using Photo Stream and iCloud. And what is your Aperture version?
To import your iPhone images from the Photo Stream your settings should be set like above: "Enable Photo Stream" and "Automatic Import". This will create the monthly projects you observerved and it should keep these projects with all the images that were imported, even when after one month and even, after the Photo Stream reaches the "1000 images"  limit. So I think, you have done everything right.
However,  there have been some reports on missing Photo Stream images in this forum and in the "iCloud on my Mac" forum recently, so I would not rely entirely on the Photo Stream right now. I strongly recommend to back up all images imported from iCloud that you want to keep, to a folder outside Aperture to be on the save side, at least until we know for certain if Photo Stream is working reliably.

  • How do I get aperture to allow exports to two Facebook accounts. It allows 1 email address and does not recognize that there is another Facebook page attached.

How do I get aperture to allow photo downloads from aperture to two facebook pages that are attached to my one email address.  I have icloud and photostream and I am not sure how to attach my second facebook page  so that I can download pics to that page.

I did not know you could have the same email for two different FB accounts?
I can only tell you that Aperture can upload to more than one account when they have different identifiers.

  • How can I install Aperture on my new Macbook Pro. I am up to date with my Mac Pro, I have the Aperture 1 and installation disks but cant remember how I got to 3. Can anyone help?  Many thanks regards Alf

I have an up to date version of Aperture on my Mac Pro, and I would like to install it on my new Mac book Pro. I have the original installation disks for Aperture 1 and 2. I cant remember how I got to Aperture 3, I think it was via a web download but not sure. I have checked my purchases in the App Store but there is no indication of me buying an upgrade to Aperture 3.
Ive tried to download it from the App Store but it wants me to pay again.
Can anyone help on how to install Aperture 3 on my new Macbook .
    Many thanks regards  Alf

Then you can download the Trial version of Aperture 3 and unlock it with your serial numbers - you will need all three for all three versions: A current link to the Trial version is in this support document, also instructions on how to reinstall on different systems:
Aperture 3.4: May quit unexpectedly on launch after updating

BTW: Your Aperture 3 serial number will be displayed in the "About" panel - the panel you see, when you use the command "About Aperture" from the Aperture menu in the main menu bar.

  • How can I use Aperture 3 on my new iMac with Maverick?

How can I use Aperture 3 on my new iMac with Maverick?

Do you own a copy of Aperture, perhaps bought for another Mac?
If you have not bought Aperture, you need to buy it from the AppStore.
But if you own Aperture and have it bought from the AppStore on another Mac, sign into theAppStore on your new iMac with the same AppleID you used to buy Aperure on your other Mac.  Then look at the "Purchased" tab of he AppStore. It show Aperture, with the "Install" button to the right. Simply press the "Install" button and download it to your new iMac.  Or if you have bought Aperture on a CD/DVD, run the installer from the CD/DVD on your new mac and immediately run software update to upgrade the Aperture 3. version to version that will run with Mavericks.

How can I use aperture after receiving the full adobe suite? It won't allow me to use it. I receive a dialogue box which states previews are not allowed in  aperture and the application is shut down.

Aperture is Apples version of Lightroom. This has nothing to do with Adobe. Ask on a Apple forum. You won't find many people here using this program.

  • How do you share Aperture file across multiple users on same Mac?

How do you share Aperture file across multiple users on same Mac? Seems this should be a preferences choice.

When you share your library between users, you may run into permission and ownership problems, if both users are editing the Aperture library and not only reading it. To avoid that, it helps to put the Aperture library onto a separate disk or a separate partion of your hard drive. For s separate partition or disk you can enable the "ignore ownership on this volume" flag. Then all users can access the library as owners of this library.
You might try to put the aperture library into a shared folder on your mac, but that has caused problems recently, i.e. when the library also contains video files.

  • I wonder how pro photographers use aperture?I shoot raw and my harddrive is alreay full.I'm not able to import new pictures. Is it ok if i create a vault and delete all my projects in the HD.Can I use an external HD use aperture through the vault??

I wonder how pro photographers use aperture?I shoot raw and my harddrive is alreay full.I'm not able to import new pictures. I don't know what to do. I created a vault. My plan was to create a vault(put all my master files into an external harddrive) and then delete all my projects in my mac pro's harddrive. Is it the correct way to do it ? What should I do if I have thousands of raw files ? How should my workflow be? Can I use an external HD and use aperture through the vault, without keeping the master files on my computer's hard drive?? Or should I shoot raw+jpeg and store raw files in an external backup harddrive and import only jpegs into my aperture library?

There's a bit to learn.  It will slowly make sense.
Aperture is an empty field.  You're given a tractor and a whole bunch of attachments. What you grow, how, and where, is entirely up to you.
Vaults are for back-up and only for back-up.  They have nothing to do with storing your working files.
When your Library outgrows your system drive (and for good performance, you should leave c. 20% of every drive empty), it's time to convert some of your image's Masters from Managed to Referenced.  ("Managed" and "Referenced" refer to Masters, not to Libraries.)
There are hundreds of posts in the forum, and several pages in the User Manual on using Masters.
Many people run Aperture with the Library on their system disk, and most (or all) of their images' Masters on external FW drives.  This is a good set-up.  Note that you will likely have to take steps to back-up the data on your external drives.
If you do the above, there should be no reason to delete any Projects.
The choice of RAW or RAW+JPEG or JPEG depends on the kind of work you are doing.  I capture RAW only -- but I don't do any commercial shoots.  Pros on deadlines report that the RAW+JPEG works well for them.  Capture JPEG if it saves you time.  IMHO, there is not a good reason to shoot JPEG to save space (space is cheap; time expensive).
Short-term solution: buy and use a FW800 external 1 TB drive, formatted "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)", and using Aperture relocate the Masters of all images older than 30 days to that drive.  (Be sure to change your back-up strategy to include this new drive; you may need a second new drive.)
This general post of mine might help you understand more about Aperture.

  • How can I export aperture pictures to a new library?

How can I export aperture pictures to a new library? I wan to create a new aperture library at an exernal drive so that I can reduce the size of the current library in the internal drive. Thank you for letting me know.

"File➞Export➞ ... as new Library " will create a new Library from the selection.
The preferred method for making the Library on your system drive smaller is to change some of the Image's Originals from Managed (= stored inside the Library) to Referenced (= stored outside the Library, often on external drives).  There are so many advantages to this that it can be recommended without question.  Unless you have specific reasons for splitting your Library into two Libraries (security concerns are one of the very few reasons), you should keep your Library on your system drive with some Image's Originals Managed, and the rest Referenced to an external drive.
Read up about these options in the User Manual (scroll down).

hello everyone!  i have a new macbook pro and i want to download aperture.  my app store says it is already installed (on my old macbook pro).  how do i install aperture from the app store in this instance please?

Are yoy sure that Apeture is not in the Applications folder of the new system? If it is move it to the trash and the App Store will let you download Aperture from it.
You will need to make sure you use the same Apple ID you used to purchase it in the past.

  • I just bought a new iMac and only have the aperture cd, how do i install aperture 3 back to my new iMac

i just bought my new imac but i only have the aperture 3 cd and do not have a drive how do i install aperture 3 or where do i download from and then just insert the cd key.

You either burn a disk image of your CD (using Disk Utility) on a mac that still has a drive and transfer the disk image on a thumbs drive or network, or download the Aperture 3 Trial Installer.
Download it here Aperture 3.1 Trial
After running the Trial installer go immediately to Software update in the -menu, and only after updating to the most recent version launch Aperture and enter your registration code to unlock the Trial.  Then launch it by double clicking your Aperture Library or clicking the Aperture icon.

  • How do I transfer Aperture to my new macbook pro?

Hi, I've just bought a powerbook pro (no optical drive) and I have aperture 3 on cd which I've installed on my iMac. How do I get Aperture 3 on my new powerbook?
    Thanks

It is safer to install Pro Applications like Aperture by running the installer than migrating them.
Just for completeness's sake two more options:
You can also download the Aperture Trial installer - it will install the same version you are having on CD - download from here:   Aperture 3.1 Trial
Then update it immediately from the Apple  menu> Software update, launch it, and enter your serial number(s). Don't try to launch Aperture on your libraries, before you have run software update.
Or,  use Disk Utility to create a Disk Image from your CD and copy  this to a thumbsdrive. Then open the disk image on your new Mac and run the installer.
Just in case, that you get an error message "check with the developer to make sure Aperture works with this version of Mac OS X" don't worry, some of the older installer DVDs give his error message, because a developer certificate expired. This easily solved by resetting the date before installing to a date before February 2012, see the thread below.

  • How do I copy Aperture app from iMac to Macbookwith different ID

how do I copy Aperture app from iMac to Macbookwith different ID ?

    Do you mean
" Macbook with different Apple ID "   ?
If you bought Aperture on your iMac from the App Store using a different AppleID, sign into the Apple Store on your MacBook with exactly that Apple ID.  (Use the "Store" menu. First sign out and then sign in with the other ID)
Then reload the "Purchased" page. You should see now Aperture ready for download.  Install it.
Then sign out of the store and back in with your regular AppleID on that Mac.  If you are notified of updates, you will have to switch between AppleIDs again to install the update.
