How to pin an app to launchpad

Hi, can you tell me how to pin an app to launchpad, thanks.

It should appear automatically. If the app doesn't appear, just drag it to the Launchpad icon

  • How to add an App to launchpad from applications

my iPhoto is gone from launchpad due to the fact it had a huge grey question mark on it and it would not function as an App in launchpad only applications in finder..
how to put an app in launchpad...
2nd try at trying to get this answerered..

Oops, sorry. In #1 I meant to say, "Can you successfully launch _iPhoto_ from its icon in the Applications folder?"
The reason I suggested my two steps is that I've seen situations where Migration Assistant had been run (after the purchase of a new computer and a subsequent data transfer) where iPhoto did indeed seem confused when opening it from the Dock. After running it from the Applications folder, it would then successfully open when selected in the Dock. I thought that a similarly successful launch of iPhoto from the Applications folder may indeed help the problematic launching from Launchpad.
As babowa said, icons are automatically added to launchpad. However, Launchpad only references the Applications folder (as I recall). If iPhoto had been moved from /Appllications, then _perhaps_ a question mark may have been present or remained in Launchpad. And a simple restart can often correct such oddball behavior.

  • How do I add apps from launchpad to my iPad

I have a bunch of medical apps that I paid for and put them on my macbook pro.  I recently won an ipad at an office drawing and want to transfer the apps I would like to use for work from my macbook to my ipad and preferably keep them on both.  How can I tranfer apps from macbook to ipad?

Sorry, apps designed for the Mac will not work on the iPad. There may be similar apps avaialble from the App Store that can be installed on the iPad.

  • How can i add apps to launchpad?

I want to add an app to launchpad. I can see the app in programms but i want also to see it in launchpad.
The suggestions for mac os x lion don't work for yosemite.

There are two ways to get an application to show up in the LaunchPad... one is to install the application in your Applications folder.  This is where LaunchPad is looking for applications.  It doesn't care if you got it through the App Store or if it's an Apple application or not.  The second way is to drag the application over the LaunchPad icon residing on the dock and release it.  This will create a symbolic link to the application without actually moving the application into the Applications folder.  It has to be the application itself, not an installer for it, not a folder containing the application, the application.  The application should be added to the LaunchPad if you don't rush it, hold it over the LaunchPad icon for a second or two.
Check to make sure it's not already in there... you won't see the LaunchPad dock icon do anything, you will just see the app you are dropping disappear.  It could be on a second page.  Click on the little dots when you launch LaunchPad to see if it's on one of the other pages.
If that didn't do the trick, try resetting LaunchPad (note that any applications or folders you created/added in LaunchPad will have to be recreated/added):
In Terminal, enter these two commands:
defaults write com.apple.dock ResetLaunchPad -bool true;killall Dock
    then
defaults write com.apple.dock ResetLaunchPad -bool false;killall Dock
If that still isn't working, what is this app's name and where does it currently reside on your system?

  • How do I add apps to Launchpad in Mac OS X Lion?

Only Apple apps appear in Launchpad. The Apps I previously purchased thru the App Store do not appear in Launchpad, nor do non-Apple apps like Word, Excel etc.  How do I get all or some of my Apps to appear in Launchpad?

It is the same as the iPhone and iPad. Apple puts its apps on the first page of launchpad and then other apps on the second page. You can drag and move them around the same way as on the mobile devices.

  • How do i add app to launchpad?

I have 2 versions of the same software and on Launchpad only one appears.
Is there a way around this?

Hmm... so according to the article, the only way to have an application seen in LaunchPad (short of an AppStore purchase) is to move it to the /Applications directory at the top level, since it knows nothing of sub-directories. Wow, I expected something less kludgy from Apple, specially given that many widely sold applications (MS Office, Adobe etc) routinely install software in locations other than the top level /Applications directory.
That still doesn't explain the weirdness with iWork. I can see it's sitting inside a sub-directory under /Applications/iWork '09/. I installed it through the DVD I got, not through AppStore, ergo, LaunchPad should not pick it up. Still, it shows up in LaunchPad. Uh...?

  • How to Add and Remove Apps from Launchpad?

I have noticed that I have apps missing in launchpad that I do have in my apps folder.
How do I add these to launchpad.
On the flip side, then how can I remove apps from launchpad that I hardly ever use?

Did you check the second page of Launchpad?
Click the second white dot in the bottom middle of the Launchpad screen.
Hope  information from these articles helps.

How can I delete an app from launchpad, that doesn't have the little cross in the left top corner. The app isn't an App Store app. The application is also not present anymore in my application's folder in finder.
I tried to use the attached command through TERMINAL :
    sqlite3 ~/Library/Application\ Support/Dock/*.db "DELETE from apps WHERE title='Help';" && killall Dock
sqlite3: Error: too many options: "DELETE from apps WHERE title='Help';"
Use -help for a list of options.
But i didn't work as I got the above error message.

I'm in the same boat as you -- except that I manage both a school lab (volunteer job) and macs in the enterprise (pay job).  What I think we need is the Education Volume Purchasing Program
    http://www.apple.com/education/volume-purchase-program/faq.html
Unfortunately this all seems a little rough around the edges -- for example, I have found updates for AppStore apps on the support.apple.com updates download site, but then when I install them via ARD they don't actually update the software.  (The AppStore icons still show as needing the updates, and the version info reports the old version.)  The documentation is also vague about which AppleID to use in which circumstance.  I think they just haven't finished thinking through the implications of the various procedures and policies upon the various kinds of customers.  When we deployed Mountain Lion on the school lab, we made an install usb and went around and installed it on each computer -- and it appears that you are on the honor system as far as paying for all of the licenses that you install.  We did!  But they appear to have no way to enforce it.
So far, I have only deployed 9 Lion macs in my day job, and our "solution" to the AppStore showing updates problem has been to drag the AppStore icon off of the users' docks so they don't see them!

  • How do I add third party apps to launchpad?

I have a number of third-party apps that I use infrequently, so I don't want them on the dock, but would like them in Launchpad, rather than having to search for them.  How can I add them to Launchpad?

Ooops, my bad.  I did not realize that there was another dot at the bottom of Launchpad for a second page, and it contains my third-party apps!

  • How to erase an app from de Launchpad if I already erased the files and tried to move it to the trash?

How to erase an app from de Launchpad if I already erased the files and tried to move it to the trash?

Erased what files? You say "tried" to move it to the trash... I assume that means that you were not successful?
Removing an app from LaunchPad requires deleting the app. In general, if you're trying to delete an app that was installed from the App Store, simply open the LaunchPad, click and hold on the app icon in the LaunchPad until all the icons start "wiggling," and then click the 'X' at the top left corner of the app's icon. If the app was not installed from the App Store, you need to use whatever uninstaller was provided by the developer of that app.

  • Why do my apps in Launchpad keep rearranging themselves and how do I fix the problem?

I have a variety of apps in Launchpad and I have them arranged just how I like them but then I shut down my MacBook Pro at the end of the day and the next day my apps are in completely different locations. It is really quite annoying to have to rearrange them manually after I boot up my Mac. Does anyone know why this happens and how I can fix the problem? Thanks

On-going problem for most of us using Launchpad.  Purchased this app that has helped deal with this http://launchpadcleaner.com/.  It provides the ability to quickly restore your layout once you had it set up.

  • How do I get to my launchpad features after downloading a new app?

HHeelllppp!  Whenever I download a new app, my launchpad turns into a catalog of my apps and the apps normally shown by the launchpad (including the App Store) are nowhere to be found.  The only recovery I have found is a re-boot.  Where have the launchpad apps gone, and why does clicking on the launchpad icon in my sidebar give me just my own apps?  ???!!  ;-(

Hello Absdad, I regret to hear that you decided to return your new device!  Has the device now been received by the warehouse?  Have we submitted an inactive pricing request to attempt to get the old plan back?  I would be more than happy to discuss your options in more detail.
    Thank you,
