How to Ping your Podcast?

Hello, Techies:
I just want to ask if do you know how to ping a podcast? Say, I have a new podcast episode published and I want to notify or ping Podcast directories that I have just updated or published a new episode..
Do you have any idea how?
I appreciate your reply
Thank you

The facility to ping the iTunes Store to get your podcast updated was withdrawn some time back: I'm not convinced that it ever worked anyway. I'm afraid it's just a question of waiting until the Store gets round to checking your feed for updates: this usually takes 1-2 days.

new episode uploded on .xml file just need to ping he server to let itunes know.
    regards

For my podcast the link to ping itunes is
    https://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/pingPodcast?id=260317789
Now replace the id number with your podcast id and you should be fine.
Just note that sometimes I ping iTunes and do not get immediate response, I guess it takes them time even though I pinged them. The best way to see if everything is fine is to unsubscribe to your feed and them immediately resubscribe.

  • How do you determine the picture that is shown on iTunes for your podcast?

How do you determine the picture that is shown on iTunes for your podcast? Is that done in iWeb or Garagetunes?

    That is a supported format,
Pull the battery while the device is ON, replace after a minute, Let the device reboot 1-3 min,
see if the problem is fixed,
If not we may have to reload the device OS to get back the missing option.

  • How to measure the exact count of your podcast downloads

    Hi,
While their are many ways to measure podcast preformance (e.g. Feedburner account and reviewing server logs), the only way to know accurately how many episodes being downloaded is to measure the daily bandwidth consumption of your MP3 or MP4 folder.
Look for the section titled "Average data transferred per day" within the your ISP server logs control panel, and divide that number by the average size of your episodes to determine your download count.
If you don't want to estimate your episode lengths, do like I do and standardize your podcasts to 1.5, 5.00, 10.00, 15.00, and 20.00 minutes long.
The above is an overview; for the details just ask.

    Hi Mike,
I never said my technique would state how many listeners one has. This technique is for knowing how many episodes are being downloaded.
Using Analog WWW logfile analysis, I set up the "File Size Report" section to subdivide download requests into size categories that correlate to my episode sizes (e.g. 10MBs). From there it's simply a matter of looking at the server requests for each category to the know how many downloads I had during any twenty-four hour period.
Btw: I verify results by comparing total episode throughput with "Average data transferred per day."

  • HT1819 How do you make revenue off your podcast?

I would like to find out how you can make revenue off your podcast?

Plug your ipod into your pc, load up itunes, make sure update to "manual" is set in preferences in itunes. Select your music on your iPod (via iTunes) and just delete it...(press del). I save my iTunes library using PodUtil (http://www.kennettnet.co.uk/software/podutil.php) although there are many other 3rd party apps that do this.

  • How to chang the name of your podcast

ok I have just started makeing a podcast I finaly got it on Itunes but it has the wroge name it should say "Old Schhool Anime" by it says "Charles' podcast" what should I do?

    Is this your podcast?
Anyway, whether that is your podcast or not, it looks like Podomatic is a somewhat cumbersome interface. The only helpful thing I could find on their forums was this: +go to the MY PODCAST TAB, staying on the tab... slide over and click PREFERENCES then EDIT+. I'm not sure if it will let you edit your title field or not. You will have to see -- and if you still can't figure it out, you could ask on the Podomatic forums.
That said (and if that podcast that I found is indeed yours), it looks like you are just starting out with podcasting . . . and that Podomatic is not a very good service. It has a severe lack of customization options, lots of server downtime, and spotty (and snotty) tech support. If you are still getting started on your podcast, I would highly recommend that you investigate some other services, figure out what XML and RSS are, and really try to understand the technical side of podcasting before you go much further.

It's a lot to learn, but if you start understanding it now, you will have a lot fewer problems in the future.

  • Is there a way of analyzing how your podcast is doing?

    Hey Everyone,
I have a podcast up on I tunes and is hosted on soundcloud. Is there a way of seeing how many listenins the podcast get on I tunes? or how many subscribers? Or any way of analyzing the performance?

    Hi mikeq,
I don't believe that's something that gets tracked in your Acrobat.com online account. There are  free time-tracking utilities, though. I did a quick Google search and found a number of them.

  • How many of you use .mac to host your podcasts?

I'm wondering if you use iweb to host your podcasts...Am I better off using another hosting site in the event that my podcast draws a bunch of listeners?

.Mac is your account and anything that you publish from iWeb is published to your iDisk - like your server.

  • How can you find out how many views/downloads your podcast has?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you

What is your RSS feed for your podcast?
If not sure - what is the URL for the iTunes page for your podcast?
For the most part the stats reporting for your podcast are greatly determined by where you host your media files.
That is where a 3rd party host like Libsyn.com comes in - they provide you with your stats for downloads.
There is NO stat reporting from iTunes for your podcast.

  • I seriosly need to learn how to ping iTunes

Listen, I know how to ping new info from my site to iTunes using this url:
    https://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/pingPodcast?id=FEEDID
(exept in the id=FEEDID part I put the feed id of my podcast, whith out that the feed above is useless)
But I really want to know how to ping iTunes with other stuff such as:
adding the overall picture of my podcast to my feed (I have no idea how to do this), or maybe if I change sites how do I redo that and then ping it to iTunes?
I'm not a noob (I'm just an idiot using iWeb) but it would be awsome if you could answer my question as if I were a noob in the noobiesh way you could think of.
    Much apreaciated.

if I'm being unclear in my question just tell me what part that I asked that was unclear to you and I'll clarify.

Thanks for the URL. I validated your feed at http://www.feedvalidator.org/check.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Frss.mac.com%2Febrisker%2 FiWeb%2FSite%25202%2FPodcast%2Frss.xml , and it looks like everything is formed correctly, so that's a good sign. "Validation" means the commands you have in your file are correctly entered, so you are probably ok. A command can be entered correctly, but you can still have problems with the URLS; or misspellings in text, etc...
When I copied and pasted the URL you have in your itunes:image command I get an error, because the URL doesn't work. Try removing the front part of the image address, and you end up with http://www.mac.com/st/1/sharedassets/1.1/Common/Templates/Freestyle/About%20Me/n avfill-v2.jpg , which pulls up an image. You would be much safer using an image that is (1) hosted within your actual web site and is not a generic image that is a part of .Mac; and (2) try to use an image that is no larger than 300 pixels tall by 300 pixels wide.
Plain text is a very generic file. It looks like Appleworks handled your file correctly. Most programs that allow you to actually format text (Word, TextEdit, Appleworks, Wordperfect, OpenOffice) by default save files in a proprietary binary format. So the file when you look at it looks like text, but to the computer it is a unique file format. "Plain Text" (aka ascii, xml, text-only) can generally be read by any program. Plain text is what RSS files (podcast files) need to be.
It looks to me like the ITMS has your newest file on their listing. http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=152430485 has all 5 videos listed.

  • Second try at getting info on how to submit a podcast feed. Please?

Can anybody point me to a page besides the outdated one here on Apple's page PODCASTING AND ITUNES: TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION ? Where it says under TESTING YOUR FEED to select "Subscribe to Podcast" in the Advanced menu. There is no option in the new 7.0 iTunes matching this. Later, under SUBMITTING YOUR PODCAST TO ITUNES it says under the "Music Store" category to click on podcasts, but once again there is no option for podcasts there. If somebody can explain how to submit a podcast to iTunes, it would be so much appreciated. Our podcast is new, but our radio show has been around for a long time. The link to our rss feed has been tested and it works. It is and http://www.rnnradio.com/rss2.aspx
All I need is somebody to explain how this is done! Please help!

The feed looks fine and can be subscribed to manually in iTunes (from the 'Advanced' menu).
Just to check that you are logged into the iTunes Store and are submitting this at
    https://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/publishPodcast
If that's the case, you may have hit a server glitch: I should leave it for a few hours and try again.

  • How to put my podcasts into playlist folders? Can't drag'em.

How to put my podcasts into playlist folders? Can't drag'em.
I've subscribed to a number of podcasts & they appear in my iTunes window under the Podcasts section.
    There i have
    2 problems:
1st: I can't rearrange or group them so can listen consecutively to different topics.
I must listen to one, then come to the keyboard and select the next to start playing. Now, I know that I can get them to play consecutively once I've placed them into Playlist folders,
but that brings me to my second problem:
    2) I can't drag and drop them into separate iTunes FOLDERS (by topics).
(Though I have been able to drag&drop separate items from my 'Music' section into iTunes playlist folders.)
But can't drag from Podcasts section into Playlists,
as everytime I try they just refuse to go in and scurry back to their starting position under Podcasts.
    Zupwidiss? This can't be.
I would be grateful for your solution.
And also grateful if I could have easily found the solution explained
before I had to resort to bothering this forum with this question.
Just using my MacMini, Snow Lep.

    Thanks very much.
    You have reminded of the
    difference between
    Playlists and Playlist Folders:
One can only drag things from the Master list into PLAYLISTS.
And can only drag Playlists into Playlist Folders.
I'm an older man, and easily confused by these things.
Many thanks to my friend in Germany.
    P.S. Your English is excellent.

  • How can I find out how many subscribers my podcast has?

Hi..ive been searching everywhere and i cant seem to find this simple answer...i want to know how many people are subscribed (or downloaded) my podcast..i use garageband and iweb to post my podcasts and here is my webpage > http://web.mac.com/jona7

I think the answer is "you can't" - because subscription is a thing that people do locally on their computer. You can only get the number of downloads from your provider's logs. But it's certainly not a GarageBand question, so try to get answers in the iWeb or iTunes forum (in case you're publishing your podcast on iTunes).

  • How can I Edit Podcast Description?

How can I Edit Podcast Description?
    Please help.

You don't say how you are making your podcast feed. I would tend to think from your question that you are not writing the feed yourself, but using either a program or one of the online services to do this. If this is tha case, you will need to look at their instructions: they should give you a place to enter the details.
If you are writing the feed by hand, then this page gives an example of how a feed should look:

  • "Itunes has stopped updating your podcast" message -- is there away around?

When new podcasts are downloaded into Itunes, I transfer them straight to my ipod. I don't play them in Itunes.
As a result, I have to tell Itunes that I DO want to continue downloading new files - for every podcast to which I subscribe, on a recurring basis.
Seems to me that transferring the file shows signs of interest - same as playing.
Is there a way to set Itunes to treat a transfer to the ipod the same as playing it?

You're right, there is no way to turn off this asinine, infuriating feature. It's this kind of thing that drove me away from Windows and made me so happy when I got a Mac. I felt like I didn't have to fight the Windows Big Brother anticipating my needs and only allowing me to do things in a way that Windows wanted me to.
Anyways, there is a partial solution, although its pretty sad compared to how easy it would be if Apple included a little checkbox in the options menu that said "Do you want iTunes to stop downloading your podcasts if you listen to them in any other way than on iTunes, even if you listen to them on your (Apple) iPod?". Go to http://www.dougscripts.com and check out the NeedleDrop script. It will let you automatically play 1 second or so of each podcast in your directory. You can then tell iTunes to update your podcasts and it will retrieve all of them, as it should anyways. One downside is that you'll have to run the NeedleDrop script every so often to update the playcount of your podcasts. Another downside, if you're a Windows user, is that the AppleScript will only work on Mac.
As a tangent (read "rant"), iTunes is becoming really annoying lately. For starters, the interface has been looking more and more repulsively Windows-esque for the last few versions. Just recently, when I updated to the latest version of iTunes, it took me a week or so to delete the previous version because there was an application called "iTunes Helper" that wouldn't close. It didn't appear in the list of processes on my computer. Finally I found that it was a startup item in my list of startup programs. After disabling it, I was finally able to delete the old version of iTunes. Now iTunes doesn't update my podcasts if I don't listen to them in a way that iTunes deems fit. What is going on? Ugly interface, hidden processes, uncontrollable "features". Is Apple outsourcing their development to Microsoft or something?
