I have just brought the latest Coldplay DVD and it wont play on my iMac can anyone help please?

These slot load Superdrives Apple uses fail all the time. There is nothing about them that can be called Super. Other then the cost of replacing them.

Since you already have the MPEG2 component, recommend you simply download the free MPEG Streamclip application. as dave hutch mentioned the word "legal" is a subjective word. in order to play a dvd on your apple tv you need will need to do some things. you first need to get that movie into your itunes library. personally i have been buying the "new releases" on those blu ray combo packs that most often come with a "digital copy" of the movie that you can copy into your itunes library. this is perfectly legal and if you buy the combo pack the first week of its release you can in a lot of cases get 3 versions of that movie for the price of a regular dvd. then once you have it in your itunes library it's as simple as enabling home sharing and you can watch to your hearts content on your apple tv.
if you don't have a digital copy you are going to have to break the encryption on to copy it, and the specifics to do that are not allowed in this forum, but a quick google search will get you to many ideas and software to do that. i am like dave and think that for my own personal use this method is legal.

How to Burn a DVD

Hi there,
how can I burn a DVD video? I have got in a HD directory Video_TS and Audio_TS subdirectories and I have no idea how to make a DVD video with them.
A sub-question would be how to play a DVD-Movie from HD directory, in other words how to play from the two subdirectories mentioned.

You should ask this of the iLife/iMovie forum. I could be totally wrong, but it seems that the _TS is analog and you first need to convert to a digital format that iMovie can play nice with.

you are probably seeing the extended display.. to see ur main display go to pefrences then display steeings and turn mirroring on.

If you mean a commercial DVD you have bought, then you can't. They are usually copy protected and removing the protection is illegal in most countries, so we cannot help you do that.
If it is a personal DVD that you own the copyright on, then you can convert it to iPad format using Handbrake. Handbrake will not convert copy protected, commercial DVDs.

Apple do not have their "own" format. You need to convert your DVDs to H.264 though.

My Mac has suddenly stopped playing my DVDs including a DVD it played fine only 3 days ago. I insert the DVD and wait for the player to start automatically but after 10 minutes, nothing is happening and it sounds like the disk has stopped spinning. I've now tried with four different DVDs (all store bought and so perfectly normal disks). The Mac doesn't eject the disk or anything it just doesn't seem to respond to it being there at all.
My main confusion is why this suddenly happened today when it was perfectly fine last week.
Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong and how I could fix it? Thank you.

A DVD is a DVD, unless it's been authored in a non-standard way. When you insert it in your Mac, do you at least see the disk appear on the desktop? Does it have a VIDEO_TS folder in it, containing various files?
If you open DVD Player manually (from the Applications folder), does it see it and start playing? If not, try downloading VLC (free) and see if that works.

Firstly you will need your Mac to support Mirroring...
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, OS X 10.8 or better and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). You can see which Mac you have and which operating system you are using by selecting 'About this Mac' from the Apple menu in the top left corner of your Mac and selecting the 'More Info' button.
AirPlay Mirroring from a Mac also requires a fairly robust network.
Then you will need to use a 3rd party DVD player such as VLC since the Apple DVD Player software doesn't permit AirPlay Mirroring.

You also need to determine what kind of DVDs your player supports. My player will play discs with image files on it. Some players will even play files in mp4 format. If yours will only strictly play DVDs in DVD format then you have to author them with a tool such as iDVD (no longer sold).
If you are playing these at home you might see if you can ouptu video straight to the video device from your MBA.
