How to play my mp4 video from snow leopard to os x lion

since i downloaded os x lion i cant play some of my file

I am very sorry Bro. When I upgraded from snow leopard OS 10.6.8------ to OS X mountain Lion 10.8.2,  99 percent of my internet downloaded video tutorial and other movies [including mp4] stored in 10.6.8 can not be recognized by OS mountain lion 10.8.2 which was upgraded 5 days ago. How to solve it?

As with transferring any other video that is in an iPad compatible format - via the iTunes sync/transfer process.

  • Complications migrating from Snow Leopard Server to Mountain Lion Server.

I'm migrating from Snow Leopard Server to Mountain Lion Server. The article "OS X Server: Upgrade and migration" (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5381) says
"Make sure that any DNS or DHCP servers on which your server depends remain running during the upgrade"
This advice is reinforced by the details of the article "OS X Server: Steps to take before upgrading or migrating the Open Directory database" (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5300).
As the server I'm migrating from provides these services it will need to be running during the migration process. This would seem to limit my options to doing the migration from a Time Machine backup (or, making a seperate clone of the server's drive and connecting it externally to the new box)
My main concern is the seemingly inevitable clash that is going to occur on the network as the new server takes on the roles of the old one - while it is still running.
What are my options here ?
This is my second attempt as on my first try I did the migration from the TM backup with the network down - and none of my local network users or their home directories were migrated, although the settings for the mount points were, but there were no actual directories where they pointed to!
Clear directions on how to procede would be VERY MUCH appreciated
    Thank you.

Moving from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion means first installing the client (non-Server) version of Mountain Lion and then install Server.app this means that for at least part of the process you will not be running DNS, DHCP or Open Directory.
If you are going to end up using the same DNS name and IP address after the change then an approach you could follow would be as follows.
    Destroy any Open Directory replicas
Archive your Open Directory Master (to make a backup)
Note down your DNS records in case they get messed up
Export via Workgroup Manager your users, and groups (you might not need this but better safe than sorry), make sure you do not include the diradmin account
Keep a full back of the server (you should always have backups)
Note down your DHCP server settings in case they get messed up
Note down any other service settings
    Install Mountain Lion
    Install Server.app
Install Workgroup Manager (extra free download)
    Run Server.app
Make sure settings for services are as much as possible the same as before
If your lucky that may be all you need to do, otherwise...
Restore Open Directory archive, if your lucky that will be all you need to do, otherwise...
    Make new Open Directory Master
    Run Workgroup Manager
Import users and groups you previously exported
You will then have to set passwords for each user as these are not preserved via Workgroup Manager export
When I did this, I was also being forced to change all my IP addresses so I had no choice but to use Workgroup Manager to export and import accounts.

  • Can I upgrade my MacBook Pro from Snow Leopard straight to Mountain Lion, or would it be wise to get Lion as well?

I am currently in the process of upgrading the operating system on my girlfriend's MacBook Pro (Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,1). I have purchased and installed Snow Leopard successfully, however I would like to upgrade to the latest operating system, which to date is Moutain Lion.
Am I able to do this?
Is it wise to perform such an upgrade on this model of MacBook Pro (can it handle it)?
I have heard that I can upgrade straight from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. What are the advantages and disadvantages of doing this? Will I lose anything at all by not installing Lion before Mountain Lion?
Thanks for the help everyone. Hopefully I can get these questions answered soon.

And the only way to figure that out would be verifying my disk using the Disk Utility?
Thank you for that. If I am not missing out on anything by skipping Lion then that will be my option. A few extra dollars in my pocket is always a good thing.

  • How can I disable .mp4 videos from playing automatically on Yahoo News? (and elsewhere)

I posted a similar question last week about disabling html5 videos and that seems to have worked. But I notice that when I look at the Yahoo News main page, some videos (thumbnails) are playing automatically as I'm scrolling up and down the page. I find that annoying, distracting, and is probably consuming data on my limited plan.
I see other questions posted about .mp4, but those are all how to PLAY rather than NOT play videos.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • How do I transfer MP4 videos from Macbook to iPad2

(I am very frustrated at this point, so please forgive me if my wording sounds like I am pulling out my hair.)
I want to put some MP4 videos on the iPad2. They are currently on my Macbook Pro.
I have attached the iPad2 to the Macbook, and iTunes opened up. It started syncing the iPad to the Macbook. I told it to stop. It looks like a bunch of stuff on my iPad may or may not be on the Macbook now, but I'm afraid to delete it from the Macbook out of fear that it will delete them from the iPad as well.
But I just want to put the MP4 video files on the iPad, so that I can run them from the Movies app. I believe I can only do this in iTunes, but it looks like easily transferring files from the laptop to another device seems to be a thing of the past.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Get them into iTunes on your computer.  Then sync your iPad using iTunes.

  • How far can I upgrade OS from Snow Leopard before Adobe CS2 goes in the toilet?

I have OSX 10.6.8 but I am getting messages from websites that my version of Safari is too old. So I thinking of updating as far as I can without having to buy all new software. And I really don't want to go up in a cloud if I can help it.
I realize I may have to install more ram - my EMC 2118 iMac has only 1 GB of memory. Plus, that would make my iMac faster too, correct?
On the other hand, maybe you can recommend another browser that would work.
Thanks in advance. I really appreciate this help forum.

I believe you will find that CS2 won't run or won't run well past Snow Leopard.
You need 2 GBs of RAM above Snow Leopard along with a Core Duo processor. Adding memory will not make the computer run faster.
    Try Firefox.

  • HT202908 How do I update from Snow Leopard to OS X Lion

I have a IMac which  I think is a Snow Leopard. Many apps are outdated now and won't allow me to use them. Ie Safari can't be used with certain apps. I don't know how to update the whole system?

Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks/Yosemite.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the  menu and select System Information.
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) model number 7,1 or higher
    Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
8 GB or more of available space
Check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported after 10.6.

    Applications Compatibility (2)
    Do a backup before installing.
If your computer isn’t compatible, you might be able to upgrade to Lion.

  • How do I move my mail from snow leopard to mavericks without using migration assistant

I'm doing a clean install of Mavericks on a new MacBook Pro.  I want to move over my mail data on a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard without using migration assistant (it brings over too much stuff I no longer need). I can find the library just fine by holding down the option key while clicking on the "go" menu.  However, the folder setup looks quite different than in Snow Leopard.  What do I need to bring over, and where do I put it?

    Thanks for your help.
Just to close the loop, it took a little more than this.  I had to start over with the following steps:
Restart the new computer by holding down the option and R keys.
Erase the harddrive of the new computer.
Reinstall Mac OSX. Name during setup as unique from that on the source computer.
Set up a system administration user with a name unique from anything on the source computer.
Connect the two computers with firewire/lighting cable.
Turn on the source computer holding down the t key (target disk mode).
Using Migration Assistant bring in the users only.
Log into the account with the mail problem, open mail, and rebuild the mailbox.
It seems to be working now - fingers crossed.

  • How do I restore my operating system from Snow Leopard back to Mountain Lion on line after erasing my hard drive?

I had to erase my hard drive.  I loaded Snow Leopard with the disk I got with my computer, but I purchased Mountain Lion several months ago and don't have support any longer.  How do I get back to the Mountain Lion operating system, on line?

    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mavericks if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
You must perform the last step - updating to 10.6.8. Until then you have no access to the App Store. When you can sign into the App Store using the same Apple ID with which your purchased Mountain Lion, click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. Locate your Mountain Lion purchase line then click on the Install button on the right to re-download.

  • How Come the iMac Can't Boot Snow Leopard DVDs Anymore Under Lion and ML?

Hi. I'm using ML as my main OS but I noticed when after installing Mountain Lion it doesn't recognize and just ejects the Snow Leopard DVD installers that came with my Mac (you could boot to it when the iMac had Snow Leopard). It doesn't see it as bootable anymore (it doesn't appear as bootable when you boot then press option nor does Startup in System Preferences see it as bootable. The DVD's are in good condition coz' it's not used that often):
Windows 7 Ultimate & Windows 8 Release Preview installer on a DVD-RW which is sees as blank (but it works find on a PC).
Only Snow Leopard that's in a USB (not sure how they made that but it was made for me by Apple repair center). I did back the SL DVDs years ago as .cdr (Master). I'm not sure if the .cdr images of the original SL DVDs can be burned into dual layer DVDs and work like the original (how do you go about that? Do you just burn .cdr like you would with .iso or .dmg?)
I think the hidden recovery partition starting with Lion is actually preventing DVDs from SL to lower versions from being recognized as bootable. Same with bootable Windows DVD-RW as Apple and the rest of the industry (I noticed netbooks now have recovery partitions too) switch to hidden partition and USB installers instead of medias like DVDs and CDs. I would guess if you could install Snow Leopard using an SL USB installer and complete erase the main hardisk along with the hidden recovery partition, install Snow Leopard it'll recognize Windows burned in DVD-RW again.
I can't install Bootcamp coz' it sees Windows 7 & 8 installers as blank drives, even Windows USB installers are not bootable (both USB and DVD-RW installers work fine on the PC). I'm thinking of disabling the iMac's Superdrive by moving in a folder or renaming its driver/extension IOSDVDStorageFamily.kext maybe tomorrow so hopefully when BootCamp sees that the iMac doesn't have an optical drive it'll show the Create USB Installer option (now it only show 2 options) so that it'll create the installers into the Flash drive.
I'm anxious of booting the USB Snow Leopard Installer and erasing the drive completely along with ML's recovery partition then installing SL in the hardisk because my Time Machine backup could get messed up. It might not restore the ones backedup by Lion and ML, although I could manually copy paste the documents but that'll defeat the main purpose of having a Time Machine backup.
Has anyone experienced this too with their Snow Leopard DVDs and Windows USB installers? Any solutions?
    Thank you in advance.
    God bless.

Zap the PRAM and Reset the SMC, then try again.

  • I Restored My Imac, But I Can't Install Moutain Lion As It Says I Haven't Purchased Lion. This Is Because I Went From Snow Leopard Straight To Mountain Lion. PLEASE HELP

So my mac is pretty much useless becuase i can't install mountain lion after a restore of my mac.
I have an imac late 2008 which i bought second hand. It only had Leopard OS X. So I bought the Snow Leopard OS X discs and installed them. I then bought Mounain Lion Straight from the app store and downloaded that.
However I recently decided to restore it for extra space. So i restored it fine and then attempted to reinstall Mountain Lion. Then a message popped up saying that 'This Apple ID has not purchased Lion' meaning that i can't now install Mountain Lion.
I then inserted the Snow Leopard disc and then it would not give me the option to install it on my hard drive and there was a little yellow caution sign on the picture of the hard drive.
I am stumped for ideas now and REALLY NEED SOME HELP
    Thanks,
    Fin

If you installed Leopard that is why you can't install Mt Lion. The system Must be running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to upgrade to Lion or Mt Lion.
If you only erased the Macintosh HD partition then you left the Mt Lion Recovery HD partition in tact on that system. At startup hold down the Command+r keys to boot to the Recovery HD Partition. From there erase the Macintosh HD partition and then select Reinstall Mac OS X. It should then download Mt Lion and ask you for the Apple ID that was used to purchase Mt Lion.
The Reason Snow Leopard might not be installing is because of the Recovery HD partition. To get rid of that you must First Re-Partition the drive As One Partition. Then install Leopard then SL (Or Snow Leopard from the start) and then update it to 10.6.8. Once that is done you should be able to log on to the Mac App Store and Re-Download Mt Lion.
