How to play swf files in quicktime

I have recently upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard on my MBP. Before I could play swf files (with no associated html files) in Quicktime okay, but in Snow Leopard you cannot select the swf to play. Is there a plug in that I now need to play this?

Perian is definitely not the route. Frrom http://perian.org :
File formats: AVI, DIVX, FLV, MKV, GVI, VP6, and VFW
SWF is a special container made by Adobe Director and can be played back with streaming software, such as a Web page that has the Adobe Shockwave plugin. Open an SWF file in Safari or other browser after installing the latest Shockwave Player, free from Adobe. Some other software that is designed for streaming playback can play SWF media, but not a typical video player like QuickTime Player.
The contents of an SWF container might include an FLV video file or bitmap images either alone or with other data. Shockwave Player has 3D graphics and interaction options (can capture video, sound, mouse movements etc. from your system by default and send them to a remote server if you don't turn off these permissions).

  • How to play Swf files on the iPad??

Just as the title sated, how to play sef files on the iPad, since the iPad lack of flash support, and I don't find any program to handle with the swf files to playing on my iPad

Depending on what sites you are trying to access, you might find that some of them (probably more so if they are news sites) have their own apps in the App Store which might let you get some of the content that you want (and there is the built-in YouTube app). Also there are browsers such as Skyfire which 'work' on some sites - but judging by the reviews not all sites. If you want to play flash games then you are out of luck if you want to play on-line (unless something like the iSwiffter app work with it), but again some of them have app versions in the store.

  • How to play .swf files ?

I have some .swf files on my WIndows PC that I want to play.
The instructions on a website said to:
". . . play your flash files using the Adobe Standalone Flash
Player. For this you will first need to Download the Windows Flash
Player 9 Projector content debugger from the Adobe Site [Freeware].
There is NO installation needed. Just open the downloaded
.exe and open your .swf from within the Projector.
In order to associate all .swf files to open using the
Projector, right click the .swf file and "Open with" option. Once
there, choose the location of your Projector.exe and you are done."
This worked ONCE. The next time I logged on, the computer
    could not play the files.
I'm thinking that this is because the programs referred to
    were not running.
So - how do I (i) find the programs on my PC and then (ii)
create shortcuts so I can run them when I want ? I prefer not to
have them automatically load at startup.
    Thank you.
    Bob

Flash Player is a browser plugin. It's not designed to work as a standalone app for opening FLV or SWF.  The standalone player EXE is a different animal.
Folks who don't own Flash Professional aren't going to have a standalone player.
For windows users, the Standalone player installer is in the archived players technote here:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html
However, it's not an application. It's just an EXE. You have to launch it, then use File> Open to open the local SWF.   You can also keep it on your desktop and drag/drop SWF content to it.

GRag and Mesh are correct. You cannot use Flex to access a file on a user's hard drive, which is where your path is pointing.
Instead, create a folder within your Flex project, under the "src" folder (example: src/assets/videos), and put the SWF there. Change the path in your code to point to the new location, like "assets/videos/myVideoFile.swf". Note that you don't refer to the src folder; it is the "root" of your application, and when you deploy all your files to your web server, you will be copying the folders you created to the root folder of your web server. So, all the paths will remain consistent. Flex will attempt to find "assets/videos/myVideoFile.swf", starting from the "root", or location, of the application itself.

  • How to play .VOB files with QuickTime?

I get an "Error opening file" message trying to play a VTS014.VOB file. This is a file of home movies scanned to the above file. I use Pro (QuickTime™ Version 7.1.6, Player Version 7.1.6) with the mpeg-2 addition and went through the process identifying QuickTime as the default player in "Get Info".
I can watch with iDVD and something else called VLC Media Player. I want to be able to pull off segments for other applications like making an DVD with just parts of the full file.
    Thanks for your help.

The mpeg2playbackcomponent will not play mpeg2 files that are in transport stream format, as the VTS in the file name you cite suggests. There is, however, a freeware that can use the playback component and read transport streams. It also will do some simple editing of vob files and save them without re-encoding, or export them to non-mpeg form such as DVStream for use in apps like iMovie.

  • How to play avi files in quicktime

I am transferring all my files to my mac from pc. How do I enable quicktime 7 pro to play my avi files???

As you are not only switching from pc to mac, but also intel, a couple of suggestions from one intel mac user to another:
    1) Download the DivX for intel beta here:
    http://labs.divx.com/node/76
Installing should allow your QT player to function well with most codecs that you commonly find which use the .avi container - it's helped me quite a bit.
    2) Download and install the Flip4Mac component for Quicktime here:
    http://www.flip4mac.com/wmv.htm
This is an alternative for those pesky WMV files you need to play. Keep in mind that although the component installs and works on your intel mac, it is not yet optimized, so you need to run QT under rosetta in order to see the functionality of the flip4mac component. The intel mac version is on the horizon, hopefully sooner rather than later.
    3) Download iSquint or likewise another conversion app. I'm offering up iSquint for now since it is free, easy and universal. You might opt for ffmpegX, MPEG Streamclip or others, but these do not run natively on your machine at this time, and you might find them a little confusing. iSquint will read pretty much any kind of codec and container combo, and it does quick conversions to mp4/H.264 files that your QT Player will recognize...
    http://www.isquint.org/
    4) Download and install the latest build of VLC for intel mac:
    http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/macosx-intel/
The latest build of this player has been rocking along nicely for me on the intel machine, and VLC is a great alternative for those video files you come across that just don't want to play in other video apps.

  • How to play .AVI files in Quicktime Player 7.6.4

Quicktime Player 7.6.4 will not playback my .AVI movies that I recorded with my Polaroid DVG-1080p digital video camera. I have videos that are 1080p and 720p (H264).
I wish I knew enough about the formatting to troubleshoot, but I thought I would seek advice from the experts.
    Any suggestions?

I don't think that QuickTime natively recognizes H.264 content in an AVI wrapper. You might try installing Perian and see if that helps.

  • Flash CS6 cant open play SWF files without importing and destroying them, how can I get around this?

Flash CS6 can't open play SWF files without importing and destroying them, how can I get around this?
I'm just trying to preview an swf file in flash like I have with all previous versions.

What if my SWF loads external content from an online server?
Not only does the current flash player prohibit such activity, it doesn't even pop open an error anymore saying there was an error connecting to an online source.
Normally, I would simply drag the SWF into Flash and all connections would go through.  I could see traces, errors, and experience no issues.
Now I can't even do that.  So what then?  You have crippled a fundamental use of the program, but THANK GOD we have that deco brush that nobody asked for.
And for the record, the nature of my work benefits from not necessarily allowing the Flash Player to connect to online content.  The error it pops up?  That's simply another method of error checking that I require.  Updating the Flash Player options is not an option.
Why would you even remove this key feature from Flash anyways?  It's been there for years ... has the ratio of people importing SWFs (a rather useless gesture in an increasing OOP world) really outweighed the people using Flash as a testing environment that much?

Hmm . . . comes with a Utility MPEG2 Component ML app with no explanation of what it's for?
The utility app is an "assistant PKG installer." It allows Lion and Mountain Lion users to install the older QT MPEG-2 Playback Component installer PKG file which is not allowed to run on its own under Lion or Mountain Lion since these operating systems already have a QT X only MPEG-2 component embedded in the QT embedded structure. Without this utility you would have to either copy the component from an older system to your Lion or Mountain Lion system, use Pacifist for installation, or manually open the PKG contents and transfer the component to the appropriate component folder.
As to your "discussion" regarding the playback of AVI file types, there are really only two strategies here:
    1) You can add component support so that QT can play the files natively or
    2) You can convert the file contents to compression formats that are natively compatible with the unmodified QT component configuration.
Each user should decide for his or her own self which approach best suits their needs for a particular source file. In most cases, conforming the system's codec component configuration to play the source file directly results in higher video quality since no transcoding takes place but this strategy will not work if a codec which is required is not available for the user's operating system. On the other hand, converter utilities tend to support more built-in codecs and are easier to use since the user does not have to concern him or herself with the nature of the particular source compression formats but at the risk of some potential loss in visual quality. As to what converter to use, once again this is a matter of personal choice. In the case of commercial converters like iSkysoft, the codecs are built in while MPEG Streamclip accesses the host operating system's QT codec component configuration. I personally prefer the free HandBrake app for AVI, MKV, TS, MTS, and M2TS conversions since it has an exceptionally full-featured X.264 GUI with some user options that 97% of users are likely to never use.

  • How to play SWF with AxShockwaveFlash control using a stream rather than a file path?

My WinForm app downloads and plays SWF files from my server. Currently, I have an object of type AxShockwaveFlash called "flash" display the movie. The code I use to load the SWF is:
    flash.Movie = "http://example.com/file.swf"
The URL is generated dynamically by the module based on what the user wants to watch.  I'd like to know how can I load the SWF using a memory stream rather than a file path? I have already configured my server to process the url and return the contents
of the file. What I don't know is how to read those contents within my WinForm application as a stream instead of the default which is to just provide a URL path to the movie.
For instance I think I can use the Net.HttpWebRequest object to make an HTTP request, and read the response contained in the resulting Net.HttpWebResponse into a stream, but I have no idea what I could do to that stream to feed it to AxShockwaveFlash
A very similar question was posed on
stackOverflow but I cannot make sense of the answer (I'm quite inexperienced).
    I'd appreciate your help,
    -Patrick

  • How to play video files that are in Drop box on iPod?

How to play video files that are in Drop box on iPod?

I am going to have to write a technote about this, because it comes up a lot.
Flash Player itself is designed to play SWF content as a browser plugin or as an ActiveX control (when it's IE Windows).
There is a standalone Flash Player, but that's something Adobe  provides directly as a feature of Flash CS4 Professional. It gets installed with Flash. We have made some standalone players available on http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html, but not all (and I don't know why.  Looking into it)
There are numerous 3rd party standalone SWF players out there though.  Some designed to just play video, others that play full SWF. I suggest a google search of 'play SWF standalone' and read the results.
On the Mac, consumers who want to play SWF content off their desktop can use the Adobe Media Player. You can import a local SWF (and FLV and other video) and play it in AMP.  Get it here:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/mediaplayer/
That's Mac only, doesn't work on Windows.
