How to poll directory to check whether new file is added in plsql code

How to poll directory to check whether new file is added in plsql code

You can simply try opening that file for read in a loop (with some sleep in between). But in some OS (e.g. UNIX) file is accessible even if it is partially written. I suggest creating OK file (empty file with same name and OK as extension) after creating main file. This way PL/SQL code will be polling for OK file which means main file is completed.

  • How to check whether a file got read permissions for perticular user

    Problem: Let JRE is running with some x as effective user in LINUX then while checking file permission it is checking permission on that file for that x user.
    File f = new File(file name)
    if(f.exists())
         System.out.println(exists);
    Else
         System.out.println(does not exists);
    The above code prints exists only when x user have permissions on that file
    Requirement: I would like to check whether a file got read permissions for particular user i.e. whether y user got permissions on that file.
    Any help is appreciated

    In Linux a user has to have read permission on a file to even see that it exists. As a result, if a user (or a group to which they belong) doesn't have read access to the file File.exists() will return false. Windows which doesn't have as tightly controlled access to files will admit that a file exists whether it can be read or not.
    PS.
    This is proof that I should never answer a question off the top of my head when I haven't had my red bull yet. This is wrong. You will be able to see it if you have read and execute on the directory.

  • How to check Whether the File is in Progress or used by some other resource

    Hi All,
    I am retrieving a file from the FTP server using Apache commons FTP.
    I need to check whether the file is fully retrieved or in progress.
    for now i can able to use the file which is partially retrieved. it is not throwing any file sharing exception or i am unable to find whether it is in progress.
    How to check whether the file is in progress ? or The file is accessed by some other resource ?
    Pls Help me.
    Thanks,
    J.Kathir

    Hi Vamsi,
    Explicitly such kind of requirement has not been catered and i dont think you would face a problem because any application that is writing to a file will open the file in the read only mode to any other simultaneous applications so i think your concerns although valid are already taken care off .
    In the remote case you still face a problem then as a work around. Tell the FTP administrator to set the property to maximum connections that can be made to ftp as one. I wonder if you have heard of the concept of FTP handle , basically the above workaround is based on that concept itself. This way only one application will be able to write.
    The file adapter will wait for its turn and then write the files.

    Atomically creates a new, empty file named by this abstract pathname if and only if a file with this name does not yet exist. The check for the existence of the file and the creation of the file if it does not exist are a single operation that is atomic with respect to all other filesystem activities that might affect the file.
    Returns:
    true if the named file does not exist and was successfully created; false if the named file already exists So if it returns true, then the file is created and empty.
    Secondly, once i write some thing to file.. how can erase all the data from file ?deleting it will get erase the file and return you to the state you started from.
    Iif you don't want to create a new file, don't use the createNewFile() method and use the new FileOutputStream/close approach rather than the createNewFile()/delete() pair as already described in this thread.

    Hi,
    I have an IDOC number with me. i had opened that in WE02. it contains a Z Segment (for a Field PARENT_NAME) added under an Extension in the DATA records of the IDOC.
    i want to know how can i check the Z Segment, whether it has been added manually or is coming automatically in the IDOC?
    i had checked with my Functional. He says that when he manually included Z Segment and processed the IDOC, invoice document text(PARENT_NAME field) is coming fine.
    How to check For automatically pick up of this Z Segment in the IDOC?
    Guys Please help!!

    Follow below steps to find where the segment is being populated if the IDOC is outbound
    1) Goto SE11
    2) Type is segment name in structure field
    3) check the where used list.
    This will show all places where the structure is being used.

  • How to check whether a file exists or not

    i am in an image uploading utility. i hav succesfully uploaded the image to the server directory (say /uploads). but when displaying the uploaded image, i wanna show the picture only if the image exits (bcoz for some records there is no image). so i hav used this code
    if(new File("uploads/1.jpg").exists())
         out.print("image exists");
    but its not working for me. i got it working fine when i give the full path "D:/Tomcat/webapps/diary/admin/uploads/1.jpg". but i think giving this absolute path is not an efficient method bcoz its a web application, bcoz i may not be able get the absolute path always. so how can i do this by specifieing the relative path
    help me ASAP if u can

    Haii ameen
    This is one way to rectify your problem..
    if(new File("uploads/1.jpg").exists())
    out.print("image exists");
    instead of this u can write like
    <%
    ServletConfig cf=getServletConfig();
    ServletContext c=cf.getServletContext();
    if(new File(c.getRealPath("uploads")+"/test.txt").exists())
    out.print("image exists");
    %>If u are not clear of what it is done let me know..i will xplain to you furthur...

    napetrov, there are two varieties of UNIX behavior regarding the group of a newly created file. The first variety, which Linux uses, comes from System V UNIX — where the file is created with the group ID of the creating user. The second variety, which Mac OS X uses, comes from BSD UNIX — where the file is created with the group ID of the directory in which it is located.
    In some UNIXes that come with the System V behavior by default, the BSD behavior can be applied to a particular directory by setting the directory‘s “setgid” bit. However, it is rare for a UNIX that comes with the BSD behavior by default to provide a way to allow the System V behavior for a particular user. To my knowledge, Mac OS X does not provide a way to allow the System V behavior for a particular user; thus, I’d recommend the explicit use of chgrp to set the group ID of a newly created file to that of the creating user, if that behavior is what your application needs.

  • With PS 7  create new  Place two objects on the new file  then you may cut copy and paste Cs2  create new  place two object on the new file Cut is not available how does one cut and paste in new file

    With PS 7
    create new
    Place two objects on the new file
    then you may cut copy and paste
    Cs2
    create new
    place two object on the new file

    If your using File>Place then photoshop cs2 creates what's known as Smart Objects, which photoshop 7 didn't have.
    In photoshop cs2 you can rasterize the smart objects and that should make the Cut function available.
    Select both placed layers, right click on the area to the right of the tumbnail and select Rasterize Layers.
    If in photoshop cs2 you to Help>Photoshop Help and look under Layers>Smart Objects, that should give you a good overview of what smart objects are.

  • How to set default sharing permission for new files???

    Hello. I have an imac 24" and a macbook pro 15". they are connected over an airport network. i have file sharing set up, which is working great. i am having one problem though.
    whenever a file is created on either computer, it defaults to only allow the other computer to access it read only. is there a way to set a preference that will make all new files that are created to have read & write permission by the other computer????

    the easiest way to do that is to connect from one computer to the other not as a guest but as a registered user. then any files you create will be owned by that user. so if you have user1 on imac and user2 on mbp connect from the imac to the mbp as user2.

  • How can I limit the size of a file generated by 3rd party code?

    I have a program that loads plugins from a directory and executes code in those plugins. These plugins are classes that implement a standard interface within my API. I want to be able to monitor for files generated by these plugins. Usually there are no more than 2 plugins running at once, so I could end up with 2 plugins writing files. An example would be a plugin creating an SQLite database on the filesystem.
    I could monitor the current directory and guess who's file it is, but what if the files get written elsewhere? Can I do something in Java that limits what directories the Java process can write to?
    I wouldn't mind being able to track their memory and CPU usage, but I don't think I can do much about that.

    Thank you. I just needed to be pointed in the right direction. After looking over this stuff, including FilePermission, I think this may give me what I was looking for. It will be a while before I get to implementing it or testing something like this, I'm just trying to get a grasp on all of the things I need to do and how to approach it.
    By doing this I can control how much filespace it can use.
    I can control CPU usage by monitoring for extra threads that don't belong and killing or settings the priority on it.
    Now I just need to think of something to monitor how much memory the plugin uses. I suppose I could gc, then store the current memory usage, then execute the plugin, gc again, and measure the size again. Does that sound like a reasonable way to estimate it's memory usage? I'm not looking for tiny changes, I just want to see large, substantial increases.
