How to position boot drive icon to top right on clone

Under 10.4 my boot drive icon always appeared at the top right. This is particularly useful when I boot from a clone, so that I do not carelessly do something believing that I have booted from my main drive. Under Leopard, however, the boot drive icon does NOT appear in the upper right when I boot from my clones. Rather, the icon of the main drive stays there. Any way to restore this Tiger capability? I know that I can manually place the icon on each clone, but that defeats the purpose, since it reverts with each new cloning. Thanks!

I don't have two Leopard drives at the moment, though I have Leopard installed on the main partition of my internal hard drive, with Tiger installed on a smaller partition. Currently, when running Leopard, the Leopard drive is in the upper right, with the Tiger "drive" below it. If I manually move these icons so the Tiger "drive" is in the upper right, and if I then right-click the desktop and select Arrange By ->Kind, the icons revert to the Leopard drive being in the upper right. Would arranging your desktop icons by "Kind" give you what you are looking for?

Hi you experts,
I am really struggling with how to delete/remove an icon on top right toolbar. I have been into 'customize toolbar' in 'help viewer',( it is greyed out in "finder') & it just keeps unexpectedly quitting. As far as Im aware I have deleted the program (it was a 3rd party free download trial back up program (Personal Backup) although would be grateful if you could take me through the steps to uninstall to check that i indeed did do it properly & to reccomend a good back up program & where to get it from.

Boot drive icon as disspeared!

Hi guys,
My boot drive icon has disappeared from the desktop. The Mac boots up fine but its hard drive icon can't be found anywhere!
Any ideas how to restore it or where it went? I repaired permissions from the Leopard install disc and the boot drive but nothing

I don't have tiger/diskwarrier. what am I suppose to do?
do you mean leopard is destroying directories? Maybe that's why I'm getting all these recovered files in the garbage can. what am I suppose to do with that? how am I suppose to get back my internal hard drive icons?
disk util is taking at least an hour to check preferences. gheezus is it slow in leopard.

It sounds like what you actually need to do is amend the icon itself - something like Iconographer will help you with that. Open the icon of any standard folder, copy in your photo image, amend the result to your satisfaction, and save it as a new icon. Then apply that icon to your folder.

How to print a company logo on top right corner in pdf

Hello together,
how can I print a company logo in a PDF-Document (Print Version; 0Analysis_Pattern_Export) on the top right corner. I created a own web template which just contains the company logo and included this template in the ZAnalysis_Pattern_Export (a copy of 0Analysis_Pattern_Export). I don't know what I have to change to get this logo (I have the path of the MIME and all that...) at the top right corner in the PDF-Document. In the own template I can change it from left, through middle to right, but without any consequences to the final PDF-Document.

thanks for your answer. But maybe I described it wrong. I have the logo still on my PDF-Document. I just want to have it on the top right corner and not, like it is now, on the left side of the paper. So the only question is how to move the logo to the top right corner?

How to show hard drive icon on my desktop on iOS x

I'm using macbook pro and have iOS x. I want to have my hard drive icon appear on my desktop. Currently, it is not showing up. I would appreciate for an how to instruction.

Usually if you have Finder preferences set to Show (these items) Hard Drives,
on the Desktop, the icon of the computer's internal hard disk drive will appear
on the desktop in Finder as one of the options shown.
Click on Finder in main menu bar to see dropdown list; choose Preferences.
(in your OS X version, this may look different)
If you can't locate Finder menu that way, with other windows open, you can
click on the Finder (face icon) in the Dock, then the main menu will be Finder.
The current Mac OS X Mavericks is version 10.9.2.
The iOS does not run on these; only on iDevices.

I cannot unlock my screen so that the orientation changes, there is a padlock icon at top right..How do I change the orientation or unlock the current screen setting?

If anyone can help me unlock the orientation of my screen..... the padlock icon is displayed in top right of screen but I do not know how to turn if off to change the orientation.

Double-click the Home button and swipe the Task Bar at the bottom to the right. Make sure the Rotation Lock on the far left is not enabled.

How does external boot drive bind to computer?

What mechanisms bind an external boot drive and the host computer when running? In particular, how is the user environment determined? Examples:
1.I boot from my external drive (10.5.1) to my home mini 10.5.1) and I get one desktop with specific background (that I chose); when I boot to the mini at work (10.3.9), I get another desktop and background (which I also chose). Each mini, booted internally, has its own desktop and background. How does the desktop environment get determined?
2. When booted to one or the other mini from the external drive, iTunes sometimes wants to authenticate permission to play a song. It always comes back with "3 of 5 computers enabled". Why does it forget, and why does it then remember the same three computers?
Where can I find out more about the nature of these behaviors as determined by the operating system?

If you have the same system (Leopard 10.5.2 latest and lot of fixes) you can easily set the home folder to point to another disk drive so you have the same prefs and home folder. All it is doing is using your home account.
Normally it is /Users/home_account
But you can unlock and change the Account control panel (Advanced option by control click on account) to any location with 'browse' on path field to...
/Volumes/volname/Users/homeaccount
and use the same prefs (like desktop but also email etc)
That would allow you to use carry your home account and always use the same email and such wherever you are.
I always keep home account on another disk drive. In Panther it was done using NetInfo Manager, now modifying home path is in Account control panel. And to me, that is what 'binds' the boot drive to your user environment that you asked.

hello. i have snow leopard on my macbook pro so i'm not very familiar with lion, however my 13 year old daughter has a macbook pro with lion and i'm the admin. i just noticed the macintosh hard drive icon in the upper right corner of her screen. is this normal in lion? if not, how can i get it out of there? thanks for any and all help.

Yes, that's the normal location for the disk icon(s). They start at the top with the startup drive. Other drives mount below it.
If you don't want drive icons to appear then open Finder preferences, click on the General icon in the toolbar. Uncheck the boxes for items you don't want displayed on the Desktop. Then click on the Sidebar icon in the toolbar and similarly check/uncheck items you want displayed in the sidebar.

Downloads "Pile" Icons in Top-Right Corner of Screen

Almost every time I download something from the web--software updates, photos, etc.--none of it restricted--all my desktop icons fly into the top right-hand corner of the screen and pile on top of each other.
I then have to drag them one-by-one back to the position they were in on the desktop.
It's becoming a major pain and I can't figure out why it's happening.
Has anyone experienced this? If you have and know how to fix it, please let me know. I can't find anything about it in the knowledge base.

My proposed solution to Jane is a *workaround, it does work for me on my Powerbook 10.4.7.
It also works on the mac intel they scramble, same os. 10.4.7
I removed the com.apple. finder.plist from the home~/Library/preferences folderon the powerbook did a restart, if I deselect the Arrange by in " Show view Options' under the "View" menu again the files scramble all around the desktop, having to manually rearrange them.
Do you know which other.plist file it maybe ?
On the iMac os 10.3.9 they behave w/out selecting the arrange, therefore, as far as I see it is a good way to arrange them, as a workaround.

Hello Dimaxum ~ I also have a Downloads folder, which i prefer to have all downloads go to so I can "get info" before I open them, I think it is an good idea. I do however have many other files on my desktop for easy access. Thanks for the support.

Choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu, enter /System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras/ and open it from there; there may also be a checkbox to display it in the Network pane of System Preferences.

Wierd Symbols/Icons in top right corner

I have a wierd symbol that looks like a phone with what looks like a keyboard underneath it in the top right corner of my phone near the battery status. What does this mean and how do I get rid of it! I think it could possibly have something to do with hearing impaired settings but i could be way off!

Why do I have a double set of icons on top right after install?

After downloading and installing beta 4 i get double icons on top. I removed them by customizing but now when I open new tabs I dont have any way to close them as in no little x.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
