How to power/charge Ipod through USB?

I have tried plugging my Ipod into the USB port on my Pavilion dv7 but it does not charge.
I am using Windows 7 and have checked the basic power options in the control panel but I was unable to find anything related to power options on the USB ports.

Is the laptop running while you do this? Which version of the dv7 do you have? Not all laptops have an always on usb port and if yours does you usually have to select that option in the BIOS not in Windows.

  • How do I charge iPod w/ a different computer without losing my iPod library

I usually use the iPod with my G5 at home. Last time I travelled I tried charging the iPod with the USB cable and my laptop. Unfortunately, it decided to use the library of iBook.
I know there is a setting for manually updating, etc. Isn't that option only available when the iPod is plugged into the computer? I would rather do it now while I am at home then on my trip and lose my tracks.
So to sum up, my question is... How do I charge my iPod with a second machine and not lose my iPod library?
Thank you so much in advance!
    Bobby

Since you have a fifth generation iPod and a machine with FireWire ports, you can do this by plugging it in through the FireWire connection; that iPod will charge but not sync through FireWire. Otherwise, set the iPod to update manually when it is hooked up to the main machine, or use these instructions to change the synchronization mode.

  • How much power can deliver the USB port on AirPort Express?

I am developing an appliance that requieres access to a WiFi router and a power source (UL 60950-1 compliant) of less than one watt (100-200 mA @ 3.3V) to power my own WiFi device, and the AirPort Express can be the right device to solve both problems with minimun overhead. The problem is that I cannot find the specification of the current / power limits of its USB port.
To check if it can provide the usual five unit loads, I tried to charge an iPhone 4, but it fails showing the message "Charging is not supported with this accessory", and an external 2.5" HD which requires 500 mA causes the following message to appear on AirPort Utility:
    USB Power
A device connected to this AirPort base station's USB port requires more power than this AirPort base station can provide. Plug the device into a power supply if possible, or connect it to a powered USB hub.
    Any insight will be welcome.

Never mind - I tried "rebooting". I hate it how that always works!

  • Help! How do I charge Ipod without syncing with PC?

Ok I had to do a PC recovery and I lost all my songs again. How can I charge the Ipod without syncing it with the PC?
Also, does anyone know how I can get my songs on my Ipod back onto my PC?
    -Thanks in advance

I really hate disconnecting my iPod from my computer, too. So, I have those speakers and it hooks your iPod up to an outlet and it charges your iPod while you're listening or not listening to your music, and its really small, so its great for traveling.

  • How to listen to iPod through new tv?

I'm trying to listen to 80gig, I believe, 5thgen iPod through new LCD tv. I tried RCA to headphone jack, RCA to plug at bottom of iPod, and VGA adapter. Everything gives no signal message on tv, what should I do? I was able to listen through old TVs using RCA to headphone jack.

It probably mutes audio when there’s no video signal. Mine does that; unplug the yellow cable and the red and white ones do nothing. You can try using video from another source with audio from your iPod, but Apple would probably prefer you use the official cables listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1454

  • Freeze when writing large amount of data to iPod through USB

I used to take backups of my PowerBook to my 60G iPod video. Backups are taken with tar in terminal directly to mounted iPod volume.
Now, every time I try to write a big amount of data to iPod (from MacBook Pro), the whole system freezes (mouse cursor moves, but nothing else can be done). When the USB-cable is pulled off, the system recovers and acts as it should. This problem happens every time a large amount of data is written to iPod.
The same iPod works perfectly (when backupping) in PowerBook and small amounts of data can be easily written to it (in MacBook Pro) without problems.
Does anyone else have the same problem? Any ideas why is this and how to resolve the issue?
    MacBook Pro, 2.0Ghz, 100GB 7200RPM, 1GB Ram   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   IPod Video 60G connected through USB

Ex PC user...never had a problem.
Got a MacBook Pro last week...having the same issues...and this is now with an exchanged machine!
I've read elsewhere that it's something to do with the USB timing out. And if you get a new USB port and attach it (and it's powered separately), it should work. Kind of a bummer, but, those folks who tried it say it works.
Me, I can upload to Ipod piecemeal, manually...but even then, it sometimes freezes.
The good news is that once the Ipod is loaded, the problem shouldnt' happen. It's the large amounts of data.
Apple should DEFINITELY fix this though. Unbelievable.

  • Charge Battery through USB without Loading Software?

    Hi All,
Anyone who can please assist; would appreciate it.  Have been trying to investigate whether a Blackberry Battery can be charged via USB (Connected to a PC or Laptop) without having the Blackberry Desktop Software loaded.
Currently I have the Blackberry 8900 but even with the previous versions; I have never been able to charge my phone without having the Software loaded. Unfortunately my laptop is loaded with Windows XP 2002 Service Pack 2 and when loading the Software it seems to mess with the speed and sometimes ends Outlook and gives me a Blue ERROR screen which then I have to switch off my PC and then switch on after 5 minutes only. This sometimes happens 3 times in one day?
    Please advise, anyone, anyone!!!!

Also, check that you are using only root USB ports...no hubs (sometimes the front-side ports are hubs...use a rear USB port). And make sure to try disabling USB power management in your system configuration (Device Manager).
Apologies in advance if this is redundant -- there's no way to be sure if you've already seen and tried these.

    Yes.

  • Charging iPod via USB hub???

    Hi Folks,
Does anyone know, if it's possible to charge the iPod battery by using only an USB hub (with external power), while computer is turned off?
I tried, but with my hub it didn't work. Has anyone experienced the same?
    Thanks

The hub does not send power out until the computer tell it to.

  • Charging iPod via USB

I have my video iPod and its USB adapter for charging it on a computer. My computer with all my music on it is getting repaired. If I hook up my iPod to another computer it gives me the red circle with a line through it and says "Do Not Disconnect." I've already quickly clicked Safely Remove Hardare and unplugged.
Can I charge my iPod on a computer w/o iTunes and keep my old music?
What about with a computer WITH iTunes... Can I stop it from dumping my music and uploading the music on that computer?

Yes, you can charge it on a computer that doesn't have iTunes.
If the computer does have iTunes, you may see this message when you first connect it.
Click 'no' or 'cancel', then safely eject the iPod, leave it connected and the iPod will charge.

  • How to update recovery firmware through USB stick

    Hello,
I have px4-300d and recently got an issue with iomega device not booting. The iomega logo is displayed and nothing happens after that. The OS is not booting. I fI conenct keyboard to USB port and press CTRL-ALT-DEL it reboots. So it is stuck somewhere in or before OS boot. Since I cannot connect monitor to this device, I need to find a way how to blindly recover the OS.

  • Charging Battery through USB (zen mic

    So here's my story.
I'm in Europe traveling with my Micro and i'm at my cousin's place on his computer. My Laptop is dead along with my zen. I've been trying to charge it and it's not working.. It turns on and it shows a Battery symbol with a lightning bolt through it. What does that mean? After a half hour I unplugged it and it doesn't turn on. But it doesn't say "docked" either. Is that because it wasn't registered on this computer?
    Please Help!

It charged for about 8 or so hours yesterday and countinues not to even turn on.. The lighting bolt just flashing on and off. I was able to charge it for a few minutes before my laptop died and it at least turned on.. The screen stays lite but the battery just still blinks with the lighting bolt.

  • Just a question about charging through USB. Should only take seconds to answ

    Hello everyone.
I have a Zen Micro 5Gb with MTP 2.20.05 Firmware.
How exactly do I charge it through USB? Do I have to lock it before I plug it in or not? Do I turn off the switch manually to save more power and what is the screen meant to look like while charging?
    Thanks.

    ants wrote:
When manually turning off the Zen Micro via the little switch, there is nothing on the screen. Does that mean it has compltely shut down? Same as the automatic dle shutdown?
It has gone to standby mode. In standby mode it's simply quicker to restart the player, and it will resume where you were last playing.
Also I heard something that happens after 4hrs?
With the ..0 and 2.20.05 firmware the standby period is 4 hours. After 4 hours the player completely shuts down and will take longer to start up, and restart from the beginning of the last track.
With earlier firmware the standby period is 24 hours, but this was causing a noticeable drain on the battery.
