How to power off 5th Gen ipod nano

I've only used a 4th gen nano a couple of times and holding the play/pause button would turn off the nano.
I've just bought a 5th gen nano for somebody but holding the play/pause button only turns off the screen - hitting any other button brings it back to life.
How do I completely power it down ?
Thanks

Hello paddymacwack,
You turn off your 5th generation Nano the same way you did for your 4th generation by holding the Play/Pause button. However, upon hitting these buttons you should also activate the hold switch, that way you don't actually bump it and turn the iPod back on at any point.

i have a 5th gen ipod nano that freezes when playing songs. i can't skip, turn down volume, turn ipod off. it simply screeches as the song is stuck at a specific point. any suggestions?

You have 2 options:  #1 - iPod Repair Tutorials
#2 - take the iPod Nano to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • Can the new 5th gen ipod nanos be used with iTunes 8?

I have just installed iTunes 9 today and am DISGUSTED with version 9
already. I have a new 5th gen ipod nano on order and would like to go back to
iTunes 8 ... will the new 5th generation be usable in iTunes 8?
With iTunes 9 being such a launch and introduction disaster ... I may sell my new
iPod because it looks like it will only work with iTunes 9. If that's the case I am selling my
new iPod and picking up a 4th generation ipod on eBay.
It looks to a lot of Mac users, like Apple really screwed up iTunes 9 ... and as a result,
may turn many new prospective iPod Nano and iTouch owners off from purchasing any
of the newer iPods until Apple redesigns or seriously modifies iTunes 9.

So are you just going to keep posting this in every incorrect forum?

What exactly are you finding so disgusting in iTunes 9? I have yet to find anything repugnant.
If you want to keep iTunes 8 I would suggest you buy a refurbished 4th Generation from the online iTunes Store and cancel your order for the 5th Generation.

Doublechecking. Have you also tried a complete uninstall of both iTunes and all the other related software components and then a reinstall? If not, try the instructions from the following document:

  • How to sync a 5th Gen iPod Touch

My wife bought me a brand new 5th gen iPod Touch and it's not syncing with my full library (only about 75% of it).  How do I get all my music on this device?

What type of media does not sync?
What type of media does sync?
Does the non-syncing media play in iTunes on the computer?
What is different about the syncing and non-syncing media? For example detail format, where the media came from.

  • How do I use 5th Gen iPod and 2009 Civic USB?

I tried everything I can think of to get my iPod working with my 2009 Civic. From what I've read in the manual, I just be able to plug it into the USB and the car finds it, displays the Honda "H" logo/mark on the screen and away I go. I wish it were that simple.
I have a 5th Gen iPod with verison 1.3 firmware. It's formatted for Windows so it's a FAT32 storage format. I restored the iPod and put the music I wanted back on it so I could test again and still no dice. I don't have another iPod to test with.
Is there something I missed? Anyone help me? Thanks in advance.

The problem ended up being the controller board/card/box (whichever of these) in the car that was malfuctioning. I gathered that they had to do some diagnostics, comparitive testing (with another vehicle and audio system known to work), and test my audio system before isolating and replacing the controller.
I bought my Honda Cerified Used, so it was all covered by the dealer and Honda. I asked what it would cost had the car not been Cerfited Used. I was given an estimate of $350 USD. I know labor alone was $198 USD.
So, if you are expericing the same issue of no connectivity between your Honda and i(Device) and your car DOES NOT display any sort of error message on the audio system, this may be your problem. If you wish to get it fixed without a warranty to cover it, the cost will neighbor $350 USD. An alternative and cheaper option is to buy a headphone to headphone jack audio cable, plugging one end into your AUX outlet (if equipped) and the other your i(Device). Plugging into the AUX outlet does not charge or let you control your i(Device) through the car stereo.
Thanks planb77 for responding to my post.
    Cheers.

  • 5th gen ipod nano not recognized by itunes

I plugged in my 5th gen nano and itunes told me that it could not recognize it and I had to factory reset it. I factory reset it and now it won't connect to itunes. it connects to my computer and it says connected on the ipod screen, but it won't let me sync my songs to it. I have the latest version of itunes 11.0.1. I already reinstalled itunes, restarted my conputer and restarted my ipod. Is there anything else I can try?

I seen this problem a lot. Since you are a Windows user (I can make it real easy). If you don't have the side screen (left hand side)..... look at the Top Right Hand side (under the close button [red X] ).... you should see your iPod there. If it doesn't work, try to reset your entire iPod and it should connect to your iTunes......

  • My 5th Gen iPod Nano won't connect to itunes or computer, just keeps resetting. Reinstalled itunes to no avail, other ipods connect fine...help please

I re-installed i-tunes but this didn't solve the issue.  Other iPods including additional 5th generation nanos connect and sync just fine.  When it's plugged into the computer, it says "Connected...Eject before disconnecting" but doesn't show in itunes or the computer, then the ipod resets and the cycle begins again.  It plays music just fine.  It also plays fine when directly connected by USB to a Toyota Avalon.  Any suggestions on how to resolve this?  Thanks!

    Hello djbrown1
Check with the article below to troubleshoot issues with your iPod not showing up in iTunes. There are two symptoms to look for to pick the right avenue of troubleshooting. Look for to see if your iPod shows up on your computer, similarly like a camera or an external hard drive. Check out the articles below to troubleshoot you further.

  • Recommend a case for a 5th gen iPod Nano

Just got a 5th Gen Nano and looking for a good case to protect it. I actually got one of these...
    http://www.amazon.com/Incase-Slim-Sleeve-iPod-Nano/dp/B002SK6M7A/ref=sr1_fkmr13?ie=UTF8&qid=1269585897&sr=1-3-fkmr1
...but it's hard to get to the controls with it.
Any suggestions for something to protect the iPod, but allows easy access to all the controls?

I use this one. Pros: Works perfectly. I like the clip on the end as I wear the iPod around my neck or clipped to a waist band if I don't have any pockets.
The leather is sturdy & not in the way of any of the controls. I do not have to remove the case to recharge, use click wheel, hold button & earplugs.
Case was free from the place I purchased my iPod from.
Cons: I have to remove the case to show people the color of my iPod & my custom engraving.

  • Is there a way to "reset" the games "played count" on the 5th Gen iPod Nano

I was just looking through my new iPod Nano (16 GB), and happened to select
all three games (Klondike, Maze and Vortex), but never played them, just looked and then
quit out of each game. Now I have a "game played" count on all three games.
I'm not sure if I may hang onto this iPod Nano or possibly look into an iTouch.
If I sell this new one on eBay, I would like to know how to reset the "game counts"
back to 0 or the original "default" of no game counts showing.
    Any help would be appreciated.
By the way, why would Apple even need to show a "game played count" on any of
the iPod Nano games ... very weird.

I think the only way you can reset play counts on games is if you do a full restore of the ipod. But, then again, if you plan on selling it on ebay, it'd be probably be best if you do the restore, that way it'd be like opening a brand new ipod for the new owner.
As for why Apple would want to keep track of game counts...I have no idea.

  • How to turn on 6th gen iPod Nano after charging?

Hello, could anyone help me with this issue:
My iPod Nano was completely drain out of battery so I was charging it this morning, I want to ask is it normal when your iPod doesn't turn on quickly after charging after completely out of battery? is it different from iPhone (in iPhone it will show charging sign)?
What should I do to check if my iPod is charged correctly? or this is a sign that my iPod was broken? please help, thanks
I left my iPod at home and still charging it for the next two hours.hoping it will turn on again.

    Hello greenmous,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
If the iPod's battery had fully drained, it could take up to at least half an hour before your iPod begins to show any signs of life, depending on whether you have it plugged into a USB port on your computer or connected to an external power adapter.
For now I would let it be. If still no signs of life after a while, try resetting the iPod.
    To reset iPod nano:
First, make sure iPod nano is charged. Then press the Sleep/Wake button and the Volume Down button for 6 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • HT1386 I'm reloading my music library onto my 5th gen.iPod nano and everytime it tries to sync a song (uncorrupted) it will take 2 hours to sync it 90% then it will stay there and not make any progress.  How to fix?

This has been going on for three days.  I had to restore my iPod because the artwork was scrambling around (anyone know how to fix that too?) and when I tried to reload all my music onto my iPod, it would load on a few songs, but then it would stop on "I Wouldn't Mind" by He is We, which I got off mediafire and never gave me problems before.  I unchecked the song when I tried to resync my iPod, and sure enough it just switched over to another song (this one being from a CD) so I don't think it's a file problem, but an iPod problem.  I've tried different cables, different USB ports, restarted my computer, uninstalled/reinstalled the latest versions of iTunes, even cleaned the lint from out of my iPod's docking slit.  I am using a Dell Inspiron which I got in October, and this is my first time restoring the iPod since transfering my library over from my old computer.
Is there something I can do myself to fix these problems and have my iPod sync normally again??

    as to rockmyplimsoul's post.
    - unfortunately i don't really remember how i transfered songs to my MB anymore... it was several days ago and i didn't try fixing it until yesterday... after which point i've been through several bouts of struggling against smashing my MB/iPhone, pulling my hair, and punching my counter top several times until finally my girlfriend decided to go home and i quickly set about self medicating with alcohol - probably sounds funny, but true.  i'm sober now though! ;p  i think when i first went to sync my phone for the first time after resetting my MB, a message came up saying that i had songs on my phone that needed to be transferred to my MB or i would risk losing them during the sync session, so i clicked 'transfer'.
    - i have a LOT of non-iTunes content.
    - i have over 11,000 items in my itunes library (some of these appear to be sound effects that appeared in my library after i reset my computer - presumably stuff from garage band), and currently have 80 songs on my phone.
    - my 'other' category is .86 GB
    - i back up to iCloud
    - i do use iCloud for other media storage.  mostly just reports for work.

  • 5th Gen iPod nano

Sold my iPod 16GB blue on eBay.  The end user wants to return since it was formatted in MAC.  He cant get it to work on his Windows iTunes.  Here is what he said on his email.  Any advice to get it to work on Windows from the MAC format?
Him--) Good evening. The pod I received is formatted for mac and not windows. itunes will not let me restore the pod so I can use it. According to apple support, the "not allowing to restore", sounds like a big can of worms. I would like to return it, thank you.
Me --) It can be easily changed to Windows Format. All you need to do is start iTunes and connect the iPod. Then select Restore iPod. That is all you need to do. If you are connecting the iPod to a Windows OS. It will restore it and change the format to Windows. Let me know if this resolves your issue. The unit was originally formatted for Windows when I bought it from Best Buy new. I changed it to Mac format since I run both Windows and iMac. It is very simple procedure.
Him--)  Hi. Ive already tried that. itunes wont let it happen. Its saying it's in recovery mode so I have to restore.
But when I do it gives this message:
The iPod 'iPod' cannot be restored at this time because the ipod software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable.
Ive gone into my network settings, firewall etc. and nothing works. I've gone to the Apple boards and this seems to be a semi common issue that wont resolve very easy and I really don't have the time to figure it out or reinstall everything like Ive been reading. If you have a simple fix I'd love to get this working, other than that I'd like to return it. Thanks again

Try a hard reset as described in this article.

  • How well does your 3rd gen iPod Nano run?

I would like to listen to your feedback, planning to upgrade my mini. Thanks Alex

Some hates, some doesn't care. If you don't like it, exchange it. I had a minor tilt, and got it exchanged.
Despite of the tilt I really loved it, great design and functionality, both music, videos and pictures. The screen is so beautiful - 214 pixels pr. inch! Beautiful! I was so sorry I had to send it back, but I really wanted it to be perfect for that much money. And when I first had seen it, I couldn't get my eyes of the tilt.
I've never had a iPod before, though I've desired to get one. I think you pretty easy will be able to use the iPod, iTunes guides you pretty much through, or you can see the feature guide on the AppleSite.
I think it is a pity that the CoverFlow isn't fully functional, but I have no problem with waiting for a software fix.
Just make sure there about the tilt (it tils 1 degree or more counter-clockwise) and that the buttons and sensitivity is working with you (some had problems with loose buttons or extremely-high sensitivity)
