How To Prepare Images For iPhoto Calendar Order...

I am getting ready to order a calendar through iPhoto '09 and try as I might I have been unable to find the directions on their website as to the specs they want followed in prepping the images. I know I found them last year but I can't find them this year. Does someone know what the color space, pixel dimensions, etc. Apple wants for a calendar. Better yet, do you know where on earth they have this info hidden?
Thanks!

Sometimes I wonder if I should have majored in abstract math concepts instead of journalism. Taking photos today involves far more math than in the good ole days of film. A fine art photographer colleague of mine used to teach Physics at Bates College and when I told him I envied him for his background he asked me why. When I responded by saying that it would allow him to understand digital photography. He laughed and said, " I've got news for you ole friend this stuff is every bit as confusing to me as it is to you. Oh well, I'm old and won't have suffer too much longer I guess.
Thanks!

Yeah, as intended... Unfortunately there is no way to change that. If you want to print from PS, I suggest you enable the print preview option when printing from LabelPrint and guesstimate the values required for the left edge and top edge on an A4 sheet (!!!). On our printers here it's something like 11 mm from top and 6 mm from left. You can use this as reference and input it in the Photoshop print dialog as custom offsets. The exact values vary slightly from printer to printer, so you will require a few test prints with simple patterns.

  • Low budget image proofing for iPhoto book order

    Hello!
I want to prepare my photos the best I can for iPhoto book ordering (Christmas present for family).
I have a Dell U2711 attached to a Mac Mini running OS X 10.6.8 and iPhoto '11 9.2.1. and a Canon Selphy CP520 dye sub printer which I thought to use as a precheck of what my JPG sRGB images would look like when printed in a book.
    Here's my headache:
If I set up the monitor and calibrate the display profile as suggested in post #1 under this thread then such setup makes me color correct the photos by RADICALLY pushing the midtone slider in the levels adjustments to the left (brightening the picture). Prints that come out of the Selphy under this setup are a perfect match to what I see on the monitor and that is wonderful. However, I hesitate to order a book using such images because they appear far too bright on an iMac for example. (Perhaps I should mention that Google logo in Safari looks like its on steroids in this setup).
On the other hand, if I set up the monitor as it came from factory (PC gamma, standard preset), and use the default DELL U2711 display profile in SystemPreferences, then pictures look relatively ok on screen without any radical color correction. But prints that come out of Selphy with this setup don't match what is on the display, prints are too dark, and again I hesitate to order a book with such images.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.
    Mato

Yes - don't try so hard and use your Mac and iPhoto - not a PC
iPhoto is designed as a consumre level program for point and shoot comeras - many people (including me) report excellent results using it that way - load sRGB photos form a digital camera and do minimal processing on them - never do major color adjustments - using iPhoto - preview rthe book -
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.
    and order
Apples comments on this are here
Of the negative comments posted here nearly all of them were from people who spend lots of time and energy adjusting photos trying to second guess the printing process and failing to do so - Apple does have an unconditional sastisfaction guarentee - do it the simple way - less is more in this case

  • Best way to prepare photos for iPhoto printed book

    Hello,
I was wondering what would be the best way to prepare photos for iPhoto printed book on a Macbook Pro so to achieve the most realistic results to what's on the screen
ie. which software should I use to change photos from RGB to CMYK, photoshop or iPhoto itself. I'm guessing maybe the autofix feature in iPhoto? (I don't have Aperture)
Secondly, which monitor color setting should I set the screen at? I'm guessing it's either Apple RGB or Colour LCD, maybe even ColorMatch RGB?
Any any other tips that people can give in achieving the most realistic results to what you have on the screen when your printed iPhoto book gets sent back. I don't want the mid tones to disappear or become too bright because the gamma and color settings were different to what they use at the other end.
    Many thanks.

    Hi,
The situation has changed a little, our original photos are in RAW format and some of them are slightly over saturated in the higher tones.
I've read on other threads that it is a good idea to run the 'Enhance' tool on all photos before sending the iPhoto Book away.
Since iPhoto's 'Enhance' tools seems to do a lot of helpful things like sharpen, adjust the levels, etc it also seems to notch the contrast up and this would prove destructive for the lighter and darker tones not captured by the camera's dynamic range.
So as I've been advised it's best to use Apple's own tools before sending the iPhoto Book away, so I'm going to download the trial of Aperture.
Does anyone have any more recommendations on which monitor colour profile setting to use etc. I've also read that iPhoto prints best from JPEGS so the RAW will obviously need changed. Will Aperture automatically save to Profile name: Camera RGB Profile after I've done some editing there?
What would be the best way to prepare RAW images in aperture where some of them might need an Image Overlay in Photomatix then imported back to Aperture for printing an Apple/iPhoto style Book?
    Many thanks

  • How to extract TEXT for archived Purchase Orders ?

    Hi Friends,
Can any one tell me how to extract TEXT for archived Purchase Orders ?
I have used READ_TEXT but that is not fetching texts for archived PO's. Whenever I am trying to fetch data from STXH against archived PO, no value is coming and resulting SY_SUBRC <> 0.
Any demo code will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance..
    Sivaji

    Hi,
You can see that table STXH is linked to archiving object MM_EKKO (you can see it in tcode DB15).
My suggest is that you must get the data. See the demo object BC_SBOOK in tcode AOBJ. You can see the report to reload data. The object is get the data in an internal table. So for report SBOOKR you can see this function module:
    *   get data records from the data container
    *   SBOOK
        CALL FUNCTION 'ARCHIVE_GET_TABLE'
          EXPORTING
            archive_handle        = lv_handle
            record_structure      = 'SBOOK'
            all_records_of_object = 'X'
          TABLES
            table                 = lt_sbook_tmp
          EXCEPTIONS
end_of_object         = 0.         "not entries of this type
    *   check lt_sbook_tmp entries against selections. Delete not
    *   requested entries
        LOOP AT lt_sbook_tmp ASSIGNING <ls_sbook>
                             WHERE carrid IN s_carrid
                               AND connid IN s_connid
                               AND fldate IN s_fldate.
          APPEND <ls_sbook> TO lt_sbook.
        ENDLOOP.
        REFRESH lt_sbook_tmp.
The idea is that you get the same data that you handle in READ_TEXT (because you don't have the data in database) and recovery the text.
    I hope this helps you

  • Image prep for iphoto calendars/prints/cards

    Hello folks,
Is there a preferred edit procedure, size, resolution, sharpening, etc for images used in a calendar/card/book?
    thanks for your help
    Diana

    Diana:
iPhoto uses frames and picture areas in a 4:3 size ratio for books, calendars, etc. So make sure the photos are in the 4:3 ratio. Most digital cameras produce images in that ratio but scanned images usually are in a different size. Use the largest pixel dimension that the camera offers because the more pixels available the sharper the picture when printed, at least up to 300 dpi maximum which is what iPhoto converts books and calendars to when converting the item to a pdf file for uploading and printing.
Also when you scan a photo don't scan as black and white (if they photos are B/W) as the image produced won't be compatible with iPhoto. Just scan everything as color.
The rest is what looks good to you.

  • How to import images in iPhoto?

I use iPhoto importing images from this same computer and from iPhone with iCloud. A problem I've always suffered also before buying iPhone was that I can't import images in iPhoto.
Well, I can drag an image from, for example, the desktop, but if I delete that file on the desktop I won't be able to open that image in iPhoto, even if I've imported it. This is because of I don't know a way to "consolidate the library" in iPhoto (while I usually do it in iTunes), so iPhoto just manages my images, but it doesn't really import them.
When, in iPhoto, I import a photo shooted with iPhone and showed in Photo Stream, that photo is really copied in the library, so in the computer, and I can delete the photo source, in fact if I delete that photo from Photo Stream that photo will remain however in iPhoto, and if I click on the high menu bar (FIle, Show Original ), a Finder window of the folder in which there is the copied photo will be opened. That finder is "hidden" in the stuff of the iPhoto Library (in Images folder of Mac), but it's not simply to go and find any photo in this way (folders and subfolders named with long numbers).
So can I choose what way to use? The good of that second method is that iPhoto manage directly and really its photos because it "has" them, but the bad is the almost impossible way to find photos in that organization library (waster than iTunes media folder, that is clear). The good of the first method is that no automatic copies will be created because iPhoto just manage photos which remain in my folders, but the bad is that iPhoto doesn't manage them direclty, but depending on my folders and my files wherever and however they are, and I can't edit them because I would change the file that is used in iPhoto with an other different version.
I think this is an annoying problem because there is a file with photos (i.e. the iPhoto Library) that contains copies of photos occuping memory while I don't know this is happening, because that copy is not announced, and simultaneously I have those photos of iPhoto free to be changed and removed with the risk of disappearing from the photos of the program.

I can drag an image from, for example, the desktop, but if I delete that file on the desktop I won't be able to open that image in iPhoto, even if I've imported it
That's an indication that you may have your library set up as a referenced library:
Check the Advanced preferences in iPhoto to see if that checkbox is selected or not.  If it isn't checkec, check it and try importing agan.
To make sure all Photo Stream photos are automatically imported into your library set up iPhoto's PS preferences like this:
You should read this User Tip by Terence Devlin which is the best treatise on how to access photos (for use outside of iPhoto):  How to Access Files in iPhoto

  • IPhoto calendar ordering problems

    Hi all,
I have been having serious problems ordering an iPhoto calendar.
First, I ordered it on Monday using express shipping, such that it should have arrived by Friday, and instead on Friday I got a cryptic email saying "Apple is unable to process your order and you will not be charged. We recommend updating your software, previewing your print product in iPhoto or Aperture, and placing the order again." (My iPhoto is fully updated and I've ordered calendars before with no problem.) I spent about 30 very frustrating minutes on the phone with Apple (worst customer service experience I've had with them) trying to get an explanation, but got none, and ultimately they told me I should re-place it and they'd give me free overnight shipping when they saw my order (nice enough...).
I'm now trying to re-order and am repeatedly getting the message "Your credit card information could not be verified at this time," no matter the card I use. Has anyone had either of these problems? Any advice? I am loathe to get on the phone with Apple again given the number of times it took to even reach someone who knew anything about print products.
I'm at the point of dropping Apple's print products entirely and going with another provider in the future. The ease of using iPhoto to make calendars is totally outweighed by this ordering and shipping ridiculousness...
    Thanks for any suggestions!

    Jianming:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Contact Apple via this link: http://www.apple.com/support/iphoto/customerservice/calendars/. Lay out the problem in detail and submit. You should hear back from them in 1-2 days.
Also log into your account thru the Store button at the top and then the Youre Account on that page, as opposed thru iPhoto, and see if you can confirm your account that way without an error.

    Hi Gurus,
I have a requirement to prepare an Inventory for the upgrade, what are all parameters i need to keep in mind while preparing the inventory and how to prepare,
    Please provide me steps.
    Any help is highly appreciated.
    Thanks-

    Hi -
We are currenlty doing our upgrade to ECC 6.0.
There are 2 things which you need to consider.
First  run SE95  - this will give you the list of SAP core modified objects. These you will have to create in SPAU and SPDD.
Then pull out the list of Z objects created. Just the Programs, Function groups, Classes, and any other BADI implementations...
If you also doing a unicode upgrade, then run UCCHECK tcode for the unicode problems...
The major upgrade problems would be in the obsolete FMS like WS_* ones...
Also the SAP querys needs to be re-genersted. ECATTS need to be migrated to SECATTS
Let me know if you need any help.

  • How big an image can iPhoto handle?

I suspect a problem I am having importing large panorama images into iPhoto is due to some aspect of the file or image size.
I have been working today with a 50000 x 4000 pixel image, which comes out to 897MB as a .tif file from photoshop. This will not import [unreadable file dialog comes up and says these files could not be imported and import failed].
If I open the image in preview and save it as a jpeg (can't do this directly in photoshop because it will not save documents larger than 30000 pixels in any dimension as a jpeg), it comes to 172MB and will not import [same error dialog].
If I reduce the size to 30,000 pixels x 3,000+ a bit, save it as a jpeg, now 44MB, it imports just fine.
And thinking I had figured it out, I played a little more with it:
I took the large pano, opened the full sized tiff
file in photoshop, made files of 29999, 30000, and 30001 pixels max
dimension. The first two were saved directly as jpegs, the third as a
tiff file that was opened in preview and saved as a jpeg from within
preview, which does not appear to have a size limit as does photoshop.
    Then I tried to import 29,999.jpg (17.8 MB), 30,000.jpg (17.8 MB),
    30,001.jpg (20.2MB) and 30,001.tif (322MB) into iPhoto.
    Guess which imported successfully?
    30,001.jpg and 30,001.tif.
    I am very confused.
[Apologies for the duplicate posting--started another thread on this same issue when I thought the .tif file type was the problem, but since I'm now more concerned about file size, I am reposting with a new title.]

Apple expert insists that the problem is in my image and not in iPhoto, that it has no photo dimension or byte size limits.
Since it has increasingly happened to me as I get more confident in making larger panoramas, I think there is something less robust about file handling for larger images, but the official word is that it is all in my head. Or my camera. Or my photoshop. But not iPhoto's fault.
