How to preserve manual icon arrangements in a folder?

Ever since I upgraded to Mountain Lion I notice that if I log out without selecting "reopen windows when logging back in," when I do log back in the contents of my downloads folder are rearranged and sorted.   View settings for this window have Arrange by and Sort by both set to None.  I use the downloads folders as a workspace of sorts and would like to keep my manual arrangement.  Any suggestions on how to do that will be appreciated.

How are they re-arranged and sorted?

  • How to preserve manually maintained Hierachy?

    Gurus,
How to preserve manually maintained Hierachy in parenth1. We are maintaining some much data manually for BPC only with hierarchy. Problem is every time when we load the hierarchy from BW system the manually maintained hierarchy gets wiped out.
We don't want to maintain BPC only hierarchy as seperate parenth2. I read this article Understanding how to Preserve Manually maintained Alternate Hierarchies with the new BPC Data Manager Package to Load from BW Hierarchies but this is maintaining as seperate parenth2 or 3.
    Please suggest.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
You can not maintain the hierarchy in BPC and load from BW, it will be wiped out every time.
What we did was that we created a new custom hierarchy in BW with the extra nodes.

  • How to preserve titles and arrangement of pix in albums

Recently I created an iPhoto book; no problem. Then, without problems, I sent to iDVD: a slide show version of the book and also the photos in the album I'd used to create the book (using the "share" menu to send photos (that creates another slide show of just the photos).
Then I added to the DVD-ROM Content area of the DVD (using the "advanced" menu)
a PDF of the book; no problem.
My problem arose when I wanted to add to the DVD-ROM content area of the DVD a folder containing the book photos (so people could download the individual pictures). I created the folder but when I tried to export the photos (from the album that I had used to make the book) all the titles and arrangement changed. The titles are different from the titles in the album and in the library. The arrangement is alphabetical.
I would like the titles and arrangement of the pictures in that folder (in the DVD-ROM content area) to match the ones in the album.
    Ideas?
    Claire Bettag

    Here's what you can do:
Go back and add a leading number to all the pics:
    001 Picture Name
    002 Picture Name
    003 Picture Name
Then export using the Title as filename
That's the only way you can defeat the Finder's Alphabetical Sorting.

  • HT1689 How do I save the arrangement of my app icons to my iPhone using iTunes?

How do I save the arrangement of my app icons to my iPhone using iTunes?

It seems really simple, I found the relevant place in the user manual it said this: "Customize the Home screen using iTunes:  Connect iPhone to your computer. In iTunes on your computer, select iPhone, then click the Apps button to see the image of the iPhone Home screen".
I did that several times;  if I unplug the phone and plug it back in the "apps" the in iTunes reverts to the same annoying arrangement on my home pages, if I do not unplug the phone iTunes stays the same. I have restarted both my phone and comupter.
This started because I synced my phone last night and this morning Facebook will not load although it tells me that I have messges.  It seemed like a good time to get the dang thing in order.  So I deleted the old Fb app and tried to add a new one via iTunes and it shows it as "will install" but when I sync nothing happens.

How do I move icons from one screen to another.

Hold down on one icon until they start shaking, then drag the icon to the edge of the screen, and the screen should slide to the next one, you can then drop it on that screen or drag it again to the edge to move to the next screen.

  • How to preserve the column headings from my playlist when I transfer the list as WAV files to a flash drive?

I have digitized several old vinyls as WAV files and have them in my MacBook Pro in an iTunes playlist. I have arranged the list under the column headings of "Grouping", "Name", "Time", "Artist", "Album" and "Genre". When I copy the files to a flash drive by drag-and-drop, none of the headings except "Name" show up. How to preserve all of the column headings when copying the file to an external device?  Thanks - RC@gnv.

I have the same issue when trying to sync from iTunes 11 on my MacBook to my iPhone 4 iOS6.1. I blindly did the iOS upgrade to 6.1 (more fool me) and since then have not been able to use my phone as an iPod.
I have tried restoreing it, I ve tried restoring it to a new phone but it hasn't worked for me.
The sync starts and the capacity bar in iTunes shows capacity including and music or films etc that are to be included in the sync and then iTunes stops the sync and nothing has been transfered. As with your experience the music is shown in iTunes under Music, under Devices as greyed out with the syncing icon (dotted circle) to the left of it.
When I try to include photos in the sync, I also get an error msg stating the connection to the iPhone has been lost. I am trying to do the sync vis USB, so I dont why I get this error.
I can of course download any music I've bought from Apple from my iCloud to my phone but I want to be able to put any music I want on to it like I could before on iOS5.

  • How do you manually manage podcasts with the new iTunes?

Like the subject line says: How do you manually manage podcasts with the new iTunes?
With the previous version of iTunes, when I plugged in my iPod, I could select the iPod, select podcasts, and manually delete episodes. With the new iTunes, I can't select individual episodes when looking at my iPod through iTunes. Is my only option to Sync? If so, why is that my only option?
This question probably has a simple answer, and I'm just not seeing it.

    Rock,
I think I figured out a way to do what you want to do - which is the same way that I use Itunes with my Ipod. (My Itunes libary was destroyed last year so I can no longer auto synch my Ipod as I would lose thousands of songs).
Funnily enough, I discovered this new way of manually moving podcasts while trying to figure out what cpragman was trying to say (I never could - he must be smarter than me, as I couldn't get his method to work).
    1. Open up your Itunes in your regular Library view. Choose Pocasts from the left hand side (either in the sidebar if you have that enabled, or from the little "radio" icon if you don't.)
    2. Mouse to the podcast you want to place on your Ipod.
    3. Right-click it.  A long menu will pop up.
    4. Move to the "Add to Playlist" option.  As you hover, all your playlists will be visible. But at the very top will be the name of your Ipod itself (whatever you named it originally).  Choose THAT name, and voila! That podcast will now copy to your Ipod and be easily available when you disconnect.
A nice feature of this method is that you can shift-click several podcasts at once and do the same thing, and all your selected podcasts will copy over (if you're like me and update your Ipod only every few weeks).
Hope this helps - let me know if it works for you!

How can I hide icon from my home screen?

    Hi pearlyxiel,
If you have apps on your Home Screen that you don't use regularly and would like out of the way, you may want to create a folder for them and move them to a later screen. You can either do this from iTunes or directly on your iPhone, as outlined in the following articles:

  • How to remove an icon off of your iPhone

Hello from KY. I looked on most of the forums and didnt see anything listed about how to remove an icon off of your iPhone. I installed a free game and after playing it, I didnt care much for it because the advertisement was a pain and a major distraction while trying to play the game. How do I remove it from my iPhone4 screen?

You can find this and much more in the manual:

  • How do you group icons on your screen

How do you group icons, like making a games folder for your screen?

    From the iPad User Manual:

  • Launchpad Icon Arrangement

    Hi,
I was wondering how you go about arranging the icons in Launchpad. I lov e the new feature, a bit like my iPhone, and I was just wondering how you can personalise the icon arrangement and hide some that are rarely used.
    Thank You

Launchpad's folder structure is completely separate from the Applications folder's structure. So making in folders won't make them in Launchpad, or vice versa. For example, I don't use Launchpad currently, so nothing in there is organized, but in my Applications folder it is, because that's what I use. Pretty much organize whatever one you want - they don't affect each other.

  • How can i move icons from one screen to the other?

How do i move icons from one page to another?

Tap and hold any icon for a couple of seconds. They'll all start to wobble. Tap and drag the one you want to move to the side of the screen and the next screen will appear; drop the icon on whatever screen you want it on.
You can also do it quicker in iTunes - connect the phone and click the Apps tab in the main window. You'll see a picture of your phone with the apps laid out. Just click and drag

  • Downloads of updates not saving, no prompts or icons in the Application folder-how do I ensure updates are saved?

I am following the instructions to download v 6 but receive no prompt to move the Firefox icon to the applications folder. I have done that anyway, but it's not saving-the latest version is July 11. I then get reminders to update all the time-what am I doing wrong?
I am working on a Mac laptop

A lot of people panic when they see Photoshop displaying differently from other software. But that's normal and expected. Here's what happens:
    1. Photoshop is color managed and performs a document profile > monitor profile conversion when it displays. So whatever the document profile is, Photoshop will display correctly - unless you have CM policies set to "off" (...!)
    2. Other applications, including many web browsers, aren't color managed and will just send the file numbers directly to the display. This distinction is extremely important, because there will be a slight difference. Again, that's normal. Photoshop is right and the other apps are wrong.
    3. Without color management, it all hangs on how your monitor displays color. Most monitors are so close to sRGB that any sRGB file will display roughly correctly. This is why sRGB is the de facto web standard: it can live without color management. And that's why you should always convert web material to sRGB. Yes, that's the Edit > Convert to Profile option. You can also use Save For Web to do this if you check the appropriate boxes.

  • I am trying to edit my music list and then sync it to my iPhone 5 so I don't run out of storage space. However, I see the check marks on the iTunes library but am unable to uncheck them? How do I manually edit what will be synced to my phone?

I am trying to edit my music list and then sync it to my iPhone 5 so I don't run out of storage space. However, I see the check marks on the iTunes library but am unable to uncheck them? How do I manually edit what will be synced to my phone? (the check marks are not bolded, does this mean they are not in my library but only on my phone?)

You uncheck the music in your iTunes library on your computer and along with sync only checked songs and videos selected under the Summary selection for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, only checked songs in your iTunes library will be transferred to your iPhone or remain on your iPhone and the unchecked songs in your iTunes library that are currently on your iPhone will be removed when syncing.
Or make use of iTunes playlists and choose selected playlists, albums, artists under the Music selection for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes and select the playlists below that you want transferred to your iPhone.
