How to preserve my library when reinstalling iTunes?

Hi, I'm about to reinstall iTunes, but I have a question before I do. Is it possible to keep my library exactly the way it was before the reinstall? If so, how would I do it? I'm using Windows Vista Home Basic.

so um I'm moving my files from my computer to my mybook. And i unintentionally removed itunes in the process....so how do i recover all my music and playlists. I have a lot of music and for some reason i have a lot of duplicates. And i do not feel like sitting at my computer for 6 hours deleting every single duplicate and recreating all my playlists. Or do i have to it this way? any help would be great thanks.

    Hey chadnh11,
It sounds to me like you uninstalled then attempted to reinstall iTunes to troubleshoot the issue you were encountering? First, I would try the steps in here:
How to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service (AMDS) on Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1567
If you end up getting to the point where you remove and reinstall iTunes, make sure you follow all of the steps in this link:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
This section contains information that might help your situation, as the order and manner which you uninstall has an effect on the outcome:
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.
Let us know if following that article and uninstalling those components in that order helped the situation.

  • How do I fix this errror when reinstalling itunes

I am trying to reinstall itunes and i am having an issue. I keep getting an error while trying to install and I keep getting very far but I always seem to end up with this.
    "Could not open key
    UNKNOWN\Components\DA42BC89BF25F5BD0AF…
    \b25099274a207264182f8181add555d0.
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel"
I was attempting to reinstall due to an error message appearing when I opened itunes
"Itunes requires a newer version of Apple Mobile Device Support Please uninstall
both Apple Mobile Device Support and iTunes, then install iTunes again."
I have tried a few solutions and for the first error when installing one was an attempt at editing a registry file which I do not think succeeded because I am running windows 8 and was being directed for windows 7.
I have attempted to use this post but it is again about windows 7 and after I select permissions under components is where windows 8 seems to change slightly in comparison to windows 7. I did try only the further steps though and that also did not work.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for performance issues or compatibility with third party software.
The further information area also has notes on your first issue.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • How do I restore my iTunes library when "Previous iTunes Library" is not showing up in iTunes folder?

I turn off my PC with Windows 7 for an hour, turn it back on and suddenly the only songs that show up are ones in the Cloud.
I looked through a bunch of questions on the Apple Support Communitities and they all say look for the "Previous iTunes Library" in the iTunes folder, but it's not there.
    Thanks.

If you have AVG AntiVirus the issue may rear its head again. See this post.

if i deathorize the machine before fresh install does that allow me to reinstall itunes and repoint to the itunes folder and off i go?

  • Wiped computer and when reinstalling itunes my apps are all gone?

Ok, first time poster here and I would like to mention I am a complete n00b at all this computer related business so please don't make fun :P
My computer was acting funny so I decided to wipe/restore it. Today I reinstalled itunes and when I logged into my account I noticed everything was gone under my application purchaces. I've bought many apps and now I'm kind of scared to plug in my itouch for fear of losing all my purchaces when I sync it to my newly wiped computer.
I've tried searching the support on here, but like I mentioned before, I kind of suck and get way too confused at everything computer related. Did wiping my computer essentially permanently delete all my bought apps?

You can transfer you iTunes purchases to your now "new" computer by"
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
You can also redownload app at no additional cost. See:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
Since you now have what appears to be a "new" iTunes library, you will not be able to backup to the "new" computer. After you move /get you stuff on the "new" computer I would let the computer/iTunes erase your iPod and replace it with the contents in iTunes on the new computer. All you app data will be lost. If you have any non-iTunes purchased music you can move that to your new computer by:

  • Using Illustrator CS6, how to preserve drawn colors when Save For Web to PNG?

Using Illustrator CS6 on Mac OSX 10.9.1:
step 1. I open a new file for Web profile.
step 2. I verify that File > Document Color Mode is RGB.
step 3. I draw a square and set it's color to 0,103,197 (decimal).
step 4. I click File > Save For Web
step 5. In the popup that opens, I set to PNG-24, and verify the option Convert To sRGB is not selected.
step 6. Using the Mac's DigitalColorMeter, I observe the color is 0,109,191 in the Save For Web popup. If I save it, then open the saved PNG file, it's color is also 0,109,191.
How to do this so the colors don't change?
step 7. I close Save For Web popup.
step 8. I verify Edit > Color Settings for Working Spaces is set to Monitor RGB, and that the Color Management Policies for RGB is off.
step 9. I verify Edit > Assign Profile is set to Don't Color Manage This Document.
step 10. I verify View > Proof Colors is off.
Can anyone provide a set of Illustrator CS6 settings that let me save a PNG image with the same colors it's drawn in so I can use that PNG image in a website?
I must be missing something obvious, because anyone working in web design must do this day in and day out, please let me know what procedure people follow to achieve this.
    UPDATE:
Using the above procedure DOES preserve the colors when embedding the PNG image in a webpage viewed in Firefox and Chome, but NOT for Safari. Also, the colors are not preserved in Mac's Preview software, as well as Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac.
I'm pretty new to all this. Hoping someone can provide some perspective on what typical procedure people use for web development when working with colors in Illustrator CS6.

  • Safety of existing selections when reinstalling iTunes.

I have an existing iTunes account with just under 16000 songs on it.  About 3000 of those songs are checked, and those are the ones I want to sync to my "new" 6th gen nano.  If, in the process of getting that to work, I have to reinstall the newest version of iTunes over the old one, will it erase all of those check marks?  It would take me all night (maybe all weekend) to go through and recheck all of those songs.  I will do it if I have to, but I don't really want to pull the trigger until I know what will happen, and I'm sure that's the only way. FYI, I currently have itunes version 11.0.2.26 installed.  For all I know, that is the current version.

You mean iTunes library. An iTunes account is what you use to purchase from the iTunes store.
About 3000 of those songs are checked, and those are the ones I want to sync to my "new" 6th gen nano.
You would be far better off leaving everything checked, creating a playlist to sync and syncing only that playlist instead of using checkmarks.
If, in the process of getting that to work, I have to reinstall the newest version of iTunes over the old one, will it erase all of those check marks?
    No.
However, you do have a backup of the entire /Music/iTunes folder, correct?
The iTunes library info is in the /Music/iTunes/iTunes library.itl file.

I illustrate the situation ,given below is the dtd of the file before parsing :-

    Hi, Kiran,
As the others have said, the only way ^1^ to get the result set in any particular order is to use an ORDER BY clause.
Here's the general way to do that in SQL in case of a UNION:
    WITH  union_results     AS
select 'a' AS txt, 1 AS sort_key from DUAL
        union
         select 'd',        2             from DUAL
        union
         select 'b',        3           from DUAL
        union
         select 'c',        4           from dual
    SELECT    txt
    FROM       union_results
    ORDER BY  sort_key
;In SQL, you can only ORDER BY expressions that arei n the SELECT clause, so to avoid displaying sort_key, the sub-query is necessary. A lot of people don't use pure SQL for this; they have their front end hide the sort_key column. In SQL*Plus, for example, you can say COLUMN sort_key NOPRINT.
^1^ There is one exception, which does NOT apply to this case, or most others. CONNECT BY, even without ORDER BY, does impose a partial ordering.

  • Quicktime Error When Reinstalling iTunes

    Hello,
I recently had some problems with iTunes on my desktop which required me to reinstall the software. After reinstalling the software and trying to run it, it gave me an error message saying I had to install a later version of Quicktime. I downloaded the newest version of Quicktime and tried to install it and got an error saying the version I tried to install was older than the version I had installed. I then uninstalled both iTunes and Quicktime and removed registry entries with the program Registry Mechanic and reinstalled iTunes WITH Quicktime included. I received the same error message saying I had to install a later version of Quicktime. I then tried to reinstall Quicktime and got the same error I received before. iTunes and my ipod both work fine on my laptop, so the problem seems to be just with my desktop. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Hey try opening quicktime. Thats what i did, and after getting it up and running, iTunes started working again.

  • How to preserve albums/folders when transferring library

I just copied my entire iPhoto library folder on my iMac to an external drive, then I transferred the library to my MacBook. I have organized my photos on my iMac into many albums and folders. That organization did not remain on the external drive or the MacBook (even though iPhoto is installed on the laptop).
Is there any way to transfer photos with albums and folders intact? Do I have to create new albums and folders on the laptop? Yikes! I have 4000 photos.
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    moreconfused:
What you did is the correct way to transfer an entire library from one Mac to another: copy the iPhoto Library folder intact from the one Mac into the Pictures folder on the other Mac. It should be the only iPhoto Library folder in the Picture folder on the second Mac. Then, when launched, iPhoto will open it by default. I would, however, do the following before trying to open the library for the first time on the second Mac: download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administartive name in the owner and group sections. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
Give it another go from Mac A to Mac B and run BatChmod on the library folder once it gets to Mac B.
I didn't ask before hand but both iPhoto apps are the save version, right?
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How to preserve embedded artwork when converting to AAC 128kbps for iPod?

    Hi
I am using the new 'convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps ACC' option in iTunes 9.1.1 (12). All of my artwork is embedded in Apple Lossless files, but on conversion to AAC for the iPod this embedded artwork gets stripped out of the file. Instead I am getting about 12 ithmb files in the iPod_Control/Artwork/ folder totalling about 6GB which probably corresponds to all the embedded artwork for all the tracks, i.e. 20000 tracks x 300KB = 6GB, and an ArtworkDB file, which presumably is for CoverFlow.
Because I use PodWorks to backup my iPod Music to my Mac I would like all of the artwork to stay embedded in the AAC files, so that it gets uploaded to the Mac. Artwork stays embedded when you make an AAC version of an Apple Lossless track in iTunes normally, but not it would seem when transferring to the iPod. And if this new method of encoding on the fly to the iPod can't preserve embedded artwork then it makes little sense to clog up the iPod with 6GB of artwork!
I am wondering if there is any setting I am missing to get this working, or if this is something Apple still need to get around to sorting,
    Thanks
    Nick

    Please!!
    I'm not silly...
As I said, selecting View actual size shows the image with sometimes drastically impaired quality (regardless of the window size).
I also said I have preferences set to view at 100%
It now seems as if this is only happening with scans I've made here.
Images downloaded from the internet are converting indentically, no problem. But my scans are being resized when converting.
I wonder if anyone with a bit of technical know-how can give me some clues as to why this is happening. It would seem to be something to do with the file itself.
(There was another post on here with the same problem but for some reason its been 'archived' though the last posting was this month and the query was not answered. So I've posted the question again.)

  • Systematic import of library when starting itunes 6.0.1.3

well, I am using windows 2000.
I have 7.5GB of music stored in itunes and for some reason itunes imports the library every time I launch the software; Every time I start itunes I get a message saying that "itunes library.itl" does not seem to be a valid file, and itunes then creates a file called "itunes library (damaged).itl"...
I am not using podcasts, and everything was ok until I decided to move from 4.5GB to 7.5GB of music and 2212 songs.
I uninstalled itunes 6.0.1.3 and re-installed it, but the problem is still there, so I assume it has something to do with the size of the 2 files used by itunes.
"itunes music library.xml" is 3,096KB and "itunes library.itl" is 2,272KB.
Has anyone else experienced the same issue?

I've determined that iTunes has to be the topmost active window when importing, otherwise it will crash consistantly. And I though Microsoft was bad...
iTunes for the Mac works fine though.
