How to Prevent Blurry Images

Hello-
I've used Pages for some time and its great. Have a problem I can't get around.
When importing images (that contain text) into pages and resize, the image becomes fuzzy and prints fuzzy as well. Here is what I've tried:
- 300dpi rgb and cmyk images
- Images prepared in Illustrator, exported as jpg, png, tiff, etc...
- Images saved into photoshop, resized, and saved as jpg, png, tiff, etc...
The images print great in photoshop and illustrator.
In Photoshop and Illustrator, the image size is 2", but Pages brings them in at around 8". Basically, they are getting distorted. I'm not a professional image jocky, but can do the basics and understand the difference btwn screen, web, and print resolutions.
Any help? How can I prevent Pages from blurring the image (a logo) both on screen and in print.
Thanks!
- Mr. Bill

I just tried outlining the text and saving as EPS. When bringing it into Pages, it was converted to PDF and it looks great! So looks like you a right, PDF is the format.
EPS is an obsolete interchange format. In relation to composed type, converting to outlines has been practiced because this guarantees that the composed type is included in the encapsulated PostScript page description program. In other words, there is no risk that a missing font error is reported by the PostScript interpreter.
Converting to outlines comes at a cost. The instructions/hints that tell the scaler how to smoothly gridfit the outline to the address space of the desktop display and deskside printer is lost, so the outlines now look blurred. Further, there is no information whatsoever about the meaning of those marks. The meaning is contained in the character codes, or as a fallback in the cross-font glyph identifiers, but both sources of information are lost by converting to outlines.
As a rule, use PDF as interchange format, and preferably a sub-format of PDF that is itself not obsolete.

    Simple, you can't.
The internet is based off of the idea of downloading files from remote servers into your browser for viewing (file sharing). If they can see your image, they have already downloaded it to their computer. The final steps of making that temporary file a permanent addition to their hard drive are simple and unavoidable.
It would probably be much better (easier and less counter-intuitive for the end user) to examine "why" you are attempting to bar your viewers from saving the information your are presenting to them on your site and working on whether it actually makes sense to place that info on your site in the first place.
If you want to protect content from "random internet bad guys" consider password protecting it so only those users who are given the username and password can access it. That's definitely not the way to present normal online info, but would make sense for things like photography sites (showing customers proofs of photos before they decide on packages to purchase) or similar.
If password protection doesn't make sense for your site, the only way to keep viewers from copying your info is to keep it off the internet all together.

  • How to Prevent Downloading Images in HTML Mail?

Is there an option to prevent the downloading of images in HTML emails? If not, is there a way to view all emails as text-only?

    No to both questions.
There is a message preview function with the following options:
    None
    1 Line
    2 Lines
    3 Lines
    4 Lines
    5 Lines
The preview function does not open the message. If you select a message to open/view the message, any embedded images or objects that must be rendered from a remote server to be viewed included with HTML formatting will be rendered.

  • How to prevent embedded images falling off the page

I have embedded images in a multi-column document. It's great to have the images flow with the text, but sometimes they flow over the edge of the page. Is there a way to set the keep options so that embedded images stay on the page?

Again, I'm going to ask what behavior you expect for this? Where would you have that image move? If what you want is for the entire paragraph to go to the next page, you are using the correct mothod by adding a keep option that will keep sufficient lines together  to match the image height. Adding the keep within the top and bottom boundaries of the column (rather than the page) for inline anchored images might be useful if it behaved like a keep option forcing the containing paragraph to the next page, but not so good if it pushed the position of the image up or down relative to its anchor point.
What you are learning is that anchored objects are extremely useful, but that they are problematic when they fall at the bottom of a column. You almost always need to som manual editing to accomodate the odd case.

  • How do I prevent the image from shearing when I have an alpha channel?

I'm using After Effects to prepare some videos for the web.  They are running at 320x240.  The settings are Flv/F4v, Millions of colors, 15 FPS, RGB and Alpha, 44K/16bit Mpeg III audio, CBR 1 pass with a bit rate of 872, On2VP6 encoding.
I create the alpha channel from a greenscreen behind the actor using standard keylight and garbage mattes.
When I do not encode an alpha channel, the image is fine.  My problem is that when I try to encode the alpha channel, the image shears to the left from bottom to top, and the whole image is transposed about 40% to the left.  But we need the alpha channel.
This is what the shearing looks like.  Any ideas on what is happening and how to prevent it?  Thank you.

To check the clip, I made a small swf file the same dimensions and frame rate, 320x240 @15fps.  It's a single frame, single layer with no skin.  It just plays the flv file when you open up the swf.  The flv file is external, so to test the results, I just keep rendering in AE to the same flv file name.
The first two seconds play okay.  The shearing doesn't begin till after that.  So I'm suspecting there is something strange with the keyframes.  I even tried messing with the keyframe distance settings at 30 and 15, without effect.
The original video is an 854x480 mov file playing at 14.99 fps, millions of colors, Sorenson 3 coding.  When I bring it into the comp, which is set at 320x240 @15 fps, I scale the movie to 50% in size.  At your suggestion, I just tried making sure that all the frame rates are 14.99 instead of 15.  Sadly, without any benefit.  I'm still baffled.

  • Finder "All Images", "All Pictures" available to all users! How to prevent?

Whatever the User (even Users non Administrator and with Parental Control) can see ALL pictures in Computer by accessing the "All Images" icon in Finder. How to prevent this? What have I done wrong as I believe in the past this did not happen?

Did you alter the permissions on your home folder?
Where are the pictures located? Your home folder is visible to all users because they need to see into your Public folder. The other folders inside your home folder are protected (Documents, Pictures, etc.)
However, if you make a folder directly inside the home folder, it is visible to everyone since it has same permissions as the home folder itself.

  • When I burn a 1.3 GB movie on DVD on the highest quality setting, the result is a blurry image.  How can I fix that?

Why did I get a poor quality DVD result when the quality is good when I view it on Premiere Elements?

    piboss314
What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
What is the project preset for the project and what are the properties of the source media for the project.?
What is the screen size of the TV being used for viewing of the DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc? Do you have the
same problem if you view the DVD-VIDEO on DVD using a computer player?
We need to explore if this is a problem of expectation or something else.
    a. If you take your Timeline content to AVCHD format on a DVD disc, what is the quality of that end product?
Just in case note, DVD-VIDEO standard 4:3 and widescreen 16:9 have the same frame size, 720 x 480 (NTSC) and 720 x 576 (PAL).
The widescreen has a 16:9 flag that stretches the video for display after encoding....in the case of NTSC to about 856 x 480. So, if you
have a high resolution Timeline content, what you are seeing in the end product DVD-VIDEO may not be faring well in the comparison.
    b. Please define "poor" quality - not clear, blurry, images smudged looking, something else.
If you are starting with interlaced video with field order = Upper Field First, you may be running into a problem with the field order
that is part of DVD-VIDEO, that is, Lower Field First. We can correct that in 2 ways.
Please review the above. Your reply with details will direct us in customizing an appropriate troubleshooting plan.
    Thank you.

  • How to prevent JFileChooser automatically changing to parent directory?

When you show only directories, and click on the dir icons to navigate, and then dont select anything and click OK, it automatically 'cd's to the parent folder.
My application is using the JFileChooser to let the user navigate through folders and certain details of 'foo' files in that folder are displayed in another panel.
So we dont want the chooser automatically changing dir to parent when OK is clicked. How to prevent this behavior?
I considered extending the chooser and looked at the Swing source code but it is hard to tell where the change dir is happening.

To demonstrate this, I took the standard JFileChooserDemo from the Sun tutorial and modified it adding these lines
// NEW line 45 in constructor

  • How to prevent user from selecting a specific printer?

    Hi there
I have a MailFolder which has an ArrayList of Email objects inside it. Each MailFolder has an attribute called folderFile which is a reference to a folder in the operating system. Each Email has an attribute called parentFile which is a reference to a file in the operating system.
Now, I am trying to put printing into my application.
    When I print using a normal printer like my HP Deskjet or the likes - an actual physical printer - everything works fine. But when I print using the Microsoft Office Document Image Writer, things go wierd. The following things happen;
I call myMailFolder.getFolderFile().exists() and this = false. But if I (in the debugger) make a new file pointing to the same path, .exists() = true. Also if I look in the OS, the file exists. So somehow in the job.print() this Document Image writer seems to be messing up this file reference. The same thing happens to the myEmail.getParentFile().
So to fix this, can anyone tell me how to prevent the user from selecting this printer, or can anyone tell me why this is happening only with the Document Image Writer?
    Many thanks!
    Rachel

I have similar problem with our printing program. I am printing Java Tables, zoom in every column in a landscape page accross multiple pages.
    There are two fatal problems:
    1. On Dell Latitude laptop, the HP5100 printer didn't work; I have to change the code to draw the table header with 2D graphics.
    2. Crash when printing on MS document image writer, but on some computers
    it works perfectly.
Any one have a good solution/same result for topic 2?
    Thanks,

  • Fix blurry images downloaded from Safari (The semi-easy way)

Hi, I've noticed a couple of people around here have had problems with image quality (blurry images) whenever an image was saved to the camera roll from Safari.
Turns out, there is a simple fix for this!
This fix requires a drawing app such as Brushes (Or any drawing app where you can take an image from your camera roll, and save to your camera roll).
Now, just open the image that is blurry in the selected drawing app.
Notice anything? The image is no longer blurry! Woo!
Now just save the image back to your camera roll, and delete the old blurry image. You won't be needing it anymore.
    Problem solved.
(I think opening the picture in the drawing app reduces the size of said picture, making it less blurry. I'll try this the next time I find a blurry image to see the changes in quality. I'll also include a picture guide for those that don't understand how to do this (But would you really need it :P))
Hope this helps all that have this problem!

Like I said, I noticed a lot of people having this problem, so I decided to post this to hold everyone over until the problem is fixed. Maybe this problem will secretly be fixed in the 3.0 update? It certainly is easier and quicker than uploading the blurry photo itself into a program such as Photoshop and editing the dimensions there.

  • How does Pages store images?

I need to understand how Pages stores images. I recently lost a few iphotos due to a disk problem. When I opened my Pages docs, those particular images were missing from them also (and from my backups). From what I've found on this forum, it seems Pages creates its own copies of the images. Can any one tell me why I lost the ones in my document? How to prevent it?
    Thank you!

I have no experience of your problem, but the photos are stored in the Pages files. In the Finder, ctrl-click or right-click on the file and choose "Show Package Content". There inside somewhere are the pictures hidden.

  • Prevent SVG image from caching

    Hi
I am working on an assignment in which I have to generate an SVG image. The SVG image is dynamically created depending on the users input.
Unfortunatly the image seems te cache in Internet Explorer. And therefor the user can not see the changes he/she made.
I can prevent the page from caching but not the image. I've tried META tags, response.setHeader etc. but it does not work
Can anybody tell me how to prevent IE from caching an image?
I am using NetBeans 3.6, Apache Tomcat 5.1 and IE
    Thanx for you're help

The browser caches by URL. You may be able to prevent the browser from using the cahed image by changing the url. Try adding a timestamp to the url.
So when you create you page (it will have to be a jsp) instead of using an image tag like:
    <img src="/images/myImage.svg">
    Use something like:
    <img src="/images/myImage.svg?time=123456789">
where the time value is just the return of date.getTime().

  • How to remove corrupt image from iPhoto

Somewhere in my photo library I have a photo that iPhoto really doesn't like! I want to know how to remove this image from my library, possibly by deleting it via Finder.
When I scroll through my photos in iPhoto the software hangs momentarily, and then crashes completely, whenever it gets to this particular image. When I try to export my photos (for backup purposes) iPhoto always crashes when trying to export this same image.
The problem has appeared with one of the recent updates to iPhoto, when I originally imported this image I could see and export the image just fine. The same issue is preventing me from migrating my photo library to the new Photos app - the import process that runs when I first launch Photos always crashes at the same point, presumably because of this same image file.
I am unable to remove the image by deleting it via iPhoto because I can't get iPhoto to display the image without crashing, please can anyone suggest another way to get rid of it.

I've been trying to post details from the crash report here, but the forum software tells me that the message contains 'an invalid character' - which character is invalid? Who knows...
