How to prevent OS X Yosemite installing

I'm using a Powerbook 2.5 ghz on OSX 10.9.5 and I don't want the latest OS Yosemite upgrade.
My computer is moving slowly enough already and despite having a 4 gig ram it behaves like it will crash if I have more than 4 applications open at once.
Many of the reviews I've read describe Yosemite as a disaster.
Recently Apple seem to have gone down the tubes with absolutely no respect for clients backwards compatibility. My HD backups from 10 years ago are not readable unless I use a PC to access them. My iphone 4 is not compatible with the latest itunes but is accessible by iphoto as of yesterday.
This super fast and very generously endowed with RAM computer crawls by comparison to a machine I bought 5 years ago.
So, if possible, I would prefer not to upgrade to Yosemite.

You are using a Powerbook? That would not run 10.9.5.
And, there is no requirement to upgrade to Yosemite.
Any OS from Lion on needs an absolute minimum of 4 GB; more would be better (I have 8 GB in my MBP and it runs well with Mavericks and Yosemite).

There is no way to change the language in Palm Desktop that I am aware of once it is installed.
You may need to remove the current Palm desktop and then download an english version of PD.

How to prevent automatic download and install of Reader 8.1.2

Hi-
I have Adobe Reader 7.0.9 and I need to keep it as my default Adobe reader program and plug-in for some applications that I use.
Over the last week, Adobe reader 8.1.2 downloads automatically and installs itself in my business laptop (Win XP SP2) and replaces my 7.0.9 version.
Each time I uninstall the 8.1.2 and reinstall the 7.0.9. I ensure the option of automatic download and install is disabled in 7.0.9.
But it still happens I have for the xth time today the new 8.1.2 in my laptop.
Anybody knows what is going on ? And how can I solve this issue to keep my 7.0.9 version ?

That's *not* a good thing to hear.
After the download finishes, do NOT press the Install Now button. Try the following to remove the download from the device. Here's the procedure I came up with last time this happened with iOS 7...It may or may not work.

Afterwards if you succeed, block Apple's update server using the following method so it wont get pushed to the device again:
In your router's settings, set up a block (using Access Restrictions or similar in the router's web interface) to mesu.apple.com. This will prevent the devices from "phoning home" to Apple, checking for the update and getting the download pushed to it again.

How can I prevent Firefox from re-installing test pilot?

I had removed the test pilot extension and its feedback button in Firefox 4.0b9. I let Firefox upgrade itself to 4.0b10 and didn't notice that silently re-installed it.
I was typing in another application when suddenly that window was minimized and the focus shifted to a Firefox "new test pilot study" window that popped up. Even if I had given permission for that software to be installed, that is rude.

One way might be to set extensions.rdf read-only. However, I do not wish to lose the ability to install add-ons, I merely do not want anybody (including Mozilla) to install an add-on without my permission.

Its not a plug-in so I can't modify the plugin scanning settings to prevent it from being loaded. Is there some way I can reliably supplement http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/blocklist/ with a local block list file? If so, would I have to update that whenever a new version of test Pilot is released?

I'm not sure what you mean by "re-directs e-mails." Are the recipient addresses changing between the time you address the message and the time it is sent?
If you could provide more information I think that would help in tracking this down.
When you use Firefox to work with your webmail site, whether Yahoo! or Gmail or another, the mechanics of sending the mail are handled by the site itself. So if there is a problem with how messages are addressed, then you may need to check your Yahoo! mail settings.

Yosemite install a complete fail, how can I get my computer to work again?

i Tried to install Yosemite and the computer (Mac mini) failed on the install. Tried to restart and then unplugged. Turns out some of the OS installed and can no longer get my computer to reach the home screen. After starting the status bar gets halway and then stops. How can I make my computer usable again? I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with your Yosemite install. If there was an interuption or failure during the initial installation and now your Mac won't start up successfully, you may want to try reinstalling the OS, as outlined in the following article:

If you didn't enable find my iphone in icloud settings on your phone, then you can't do a lost mode or lock your phone.
I would assume you had a passcode on your phone to lock it. If you didn't then start changing your passwords.
Report the lost to your phone carrier - local authorities.

Staff members that are issued with company iPhones are syncing their personal Apple IDs to the phone and installing the find my phone app. When they then leave and the phone is wiped so that it can be set up for the next user, after the set up the phone is showing as locked to their Apple ID.
Obviously if we get the phone handed to us personally we can unlock it and disable the app before wiping the phone but that's not always possible.
Is there an app or a way of preventing users from installing the find my iPhone app?

Did you already ask this question in the iPhone in Business and Education forum? As far as I remember there is an Apple app (Apple Configurator) that let you set up company devices and prevent other users from installing other apps after that.
Another option would be letting them remove the device from Find my iPhone in order to deactivate the Activation lock feature again:

How to recover from 'INSTALLER LOG SHARED BUFFER IS FUL' during Yosemite install/upgrade?

My MacBook Pro is currently out of commission as it will only boot into the Yosemite Install process which currently cannot be completed successfully.
I learned (after the fact) of the install issues related to homebrew but from that helpful article I found out about Cmd-L to open the Log Viewer.
I've had two unsuccessful installs now. The first took 5+ hours. Since it was taking so long, I left it running over night with the Log Viewer running. I awoke to a failed install with 'Line 128,493 - INSTALLER LOG SHARED BUFFER IS FUL' as the last output in the log viewer. I figured that maybe it was the actual Log Viewer that was causing the issue, but alas my second attempt failed and I only had the log viewer open briefly part way through the process. Even without the Log Viewer running, it hit the same errror.
Is there a way I can reenable Mavericks to move some files around in preparation for the install? I don't have the hardware to mount the laptop as a target disk - if I brought the machine to the Apple Store would they let me mount my MBP and move stuff around so I could minimize the install process? Anyone else have any suggestions?

As for question 1) I can aster that myself: yes, the installer is still running.
My installation just finished now and seems to be fine. However, if someone has a clue about question 2) it would be great to hear the answer.

How long should upgrade to Yosemite take?

I have downloaded Yosemite from the AppStore and on my initial attempt to install got to the point of having a grey screen with apple in the middle and a progress bar which stopped about 1/4th the way to completion. I let it run overnight after reading posts online indicating that it should resolve itself with time. After over 12 hours, I restarted the late 2012 MacBook Air and it would immediately go back to the same point in the installation. I then booted to the recovery disk and restored Maverick from my TimeMachine. I have tried to install again and have been stuck in the same spot for over 12 hours. I've tried entering Command-L to observe the log file with no change in what is being displayed. How long should I wait?

Install after download seems to take around a half hour. Of course it will depend on your hardware.

Basically, as administrator, I can't say if the user installed application using "Install application on remote desktop..." in Control Panel or he just installed it by clicking the .msi executable. I can't find anything that makes any difference.
I could not find anything in the registry. I am quite confused.

Please make sure that you are using category view of control panel-programs to check the application. And in addition to “install application on Remote Desktop server” user can also use command line also.

First the computer has to have a minimum of 4GB of RAM (6GB is highly recommended) . You can get a 6GB RAM kit by clicking here,
Once you have upgraded the RAM, then you will need to buy Snow Leopard, that is available by clicking here
After installing Snow Leopard run Software Update until no additional updates are required. Then open the Mac App Store and download Yosemite.
NOTE: Before you do ANYTHING backup your computer and make sure it is running perfectly before doing ANY updates or upgrades. Also make sure all your applications are up-to-date. You may have some legacy apps that will not run on Yosemite so check before upgrading so you can take the appropriate steps, i.e. upgrade or replacing them.

I read the discussion and sounds somewhat similar to how I fixed my heap zone error problem a year ago. I was trying to be proactive before starting my next large project to see if additional info is available.
Info on last year's project and how I corrected it: 40 min project for export to iDVD. OSX Lion, All updates installed, MACMINI lots of free HD space. I tried MANYsuggested discussion fixes available at that time, without success. Finally adopted an approach similar to that in you discussion. Step 1: removed the latest content until an export version worked; Step 2 - added a few minutes of content; Step 3 - exported until heap zone error reappeared; Step 4 - repeated steps 1-3 more than 30 times until able to export the entire project without the heap zone error. A tedious process but it worked. (Note: I was new to Apple and not using Time Machine)

But, any user can install Flash Media Live Encoder and connect to my FMS, publish his/her stream (because url to publish and view is same)
My question is: how to prevent end-user publish stream to my FMS, only allow end-user view my live stream?

Requirement is that i should be able to create a maintenance plan & schedul it as per the due dates. Maintenance order should get created. This order can be linked to the service contract item for which service entry sheet is created & released.
I want a control on service entry sheet creation if the order is not settled or the related inspection lot which is generated is not confirmed.
