How to preview a whole portrait picture in pan zoom mode?

Hi I'm new. Currently, I'm trying to create a slide show for my website, and I want to make some motion(zoom in zoom out fade in and fade out) in my pictures.
In pan zoom mode, I can preview a whole landscape oriented picture, but portrait oriented picture has a limit to zoom out and apply a whole picture.... and when I turn Motion and opacity off, Thumnails and preview looks different at all. Is this a bug or my mistake?

I can't expand the Green box and apply the whole photo.

If I could select a whole picture, I don't mind to see a black border around the picture.

As regards to the Premiere Elements 11 Pan and Zoom Tool, I see it as "it is what it is" in this instance.
I would encourage you to explore the alternative approach to panning, zooming, fades in, fades out, that is, keyframing
Applied Effects/Applied Effects Palette/Motion Panel expanded
Scale property for Zoom
Position property for Pan
Applied Effect/Applied Effects Palette/Opacity Panel expanded
either shortcuts for Fade In and Fade Out
or
keyframing Opacity with the Opacity slider in that location.
You can do some pan OR zoom with presets found under fx Effects/Presets/...in this case, pan or zoom but not pan and zoom per clip.
Please review and do not hesitate to ask for clarification on anything that I have written.

I was making a slideshow with a lot of photos. I had to manually add two keyframes in each photo (one in the beginning and one at the end), and then manually adjusted the scale/position for each photo so they pan/zoom during the slideshow.

Build the effect that you want on one photo.
Right click that photo on the Timeline and choose Copy.
Select the other photos that you want to have the same effect.
Right click one of them and choose Paste Attributes.
In the Attributes dialog, place a check mark next to those you want. In the case of the effect described in your post, that would be Motion Attributes. If you had also included Filter effects such as color correction, you would check those too.

How do I restore default functionality to the Pan & Zoom tool?

What step by step procedure do I need to follow to get those green bars to appear like they used to? The green bars disappear ONLY when I place a video in the timeline. If I place a still photo in the timeline the green bars are there like they should be.

From your previous threads, it would appear that you are using Premiere Elements 12 Mac. Is that correct?
Is this a "it worked before but not now" or "it never worked before" type of issue?

I have never seen a Premiere Elements 11 or 12 Pan and Zoom workspace that looked like your screenshot.
What were you doing in the program when this problem occurred?
I would suggest that you make sure that
1. You have updated the program from 12 to 12.1.
2. You have deleted the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file (Users/user name/Libraries/Application Support/Adobe/Premiere Elements/12.0)
3. If that does not work, then I would suggest a complete uninstall/reinstall of the program.
Is the Pan and Zoom Tool the only feature that is not working and/or displaying correctly?

In the Grid view, *View > Grid View > Show Header* should expose the header. In the List view it's contolled by the size of the artwork column.

Do you want to copy some pictures to the external drive, or do you want to move your whole iPhoto library? The latter will free up hard drive space on your start up disk; the procedure is explained here:

Note this is not the same as a Time Machine backup.
If on the other hand you want to copy some photos from one drive to another, you can just drag and drop them from one location to another. This is a true copy, the originals will remain intact.

How to preview ENTIRE video (basic question but its not working)

Ive been fiddling with this for over 2 hours and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to preview the entire video. All I can get are the clips. When I click the source tab it only allows me to select individual clips not the whole track. How on earth do I preview the entire video?

And for bonus marks, is there a way to slim down the sides of the video (there are black bars in the native file) and re-render it? E.g. Change a video from 720x480 to 720x380 but not by shrinking the whole file, but rather trimming the sides (Sony Vegas can do this so Im wondering if Premiere can too)

Depending on the effect that you want, you might also consider doing an "abstract" background, rather than a single, flat Color Matte. The choice will depend on what you want to do, and probably also on your material. When faced with vertical images in a "SlideShow," I use this often, and will often use it for all images in a SlideShow. This ARTICLE goes into more detail, just in case you might want to do something similar.

IPhoto '11: Vertical (portrait) pictures are cropped in a slideshow.

All portrait and landscape pictures in my library and albums are not cropped, yet when I play a slideshow, the portrait pictures are cropped. The landscape ones are not. Some of my subjects heads are partially cut off! Does anyone know how to fix this?

What is the theme you are using? Some themes, like reflections, will crop the slides that do not fit into the templates.
Try, if using a different theme will help.

You can go into the settings, accessibility and turn parallax motion off. THis is what makes it look 3D, like your icons are floating on your screen. It helps a bit because to have that 3D, your wallpaper needs to have an overlap off the edge of the screen.
ALso, if you go into the photos app, find your photo, send it to be wallpaper (the box with the arrow poking out of it) you will have a bit more control. The higher resolution your image is the more you will have.
Some have also reported some progress rotating their image. For example if your picture is landscape (wider than it is tall), when you go into the photos app, hold your iPad in portrait mode, taller than it is wide. Do the send to that way and see if it helps with you having more scaling room

Problem: How to preview effects (such as drop shadow) applied to objects (jpg) on a question slide.
Situation: Quiz consisting of say 5 random questions pulled from a pool of 50 multi choice questions.
Question Pool Panel:
I am constructing the question slides in Quizzing workspace.
I can view the slide and add the questions and answers + any jpg images that may be required.
If I want to add a drop shadow to an image I select the object (img) and switch to the Effects panel.
I add the drop shadow and can make the adjustments BUT the effect is not visible on the slide.
The Live Preview button is greyed out and unavailable.
Preview options from the toolbar are....
F3 slide.... Does not show the effect.
F4 project.... would take too long AND would not be sure of viewing the slide to which I had added the image effect.
F12 browser.... shows the whole project with 5 random questions but not necessarily the specific slide.
I switch to Filmstip panel:
More preview options are available...
F8 this slide... If I select a blank random Question slide it pulls a question from the pool of 50 but not necessarily the one on which I am working.
F10 next 5 slides.... same problem as F8
Unacceptable workaround:
I can create another "test" pool containing one question.
Copy the edited slide to the "test pool and preview it from there with F8 or F10
A lot of extra work....
So the effect is working and would be applied to the finished quiz.... BUT.... I cannot (without a lot of P'ing about) preview and adjust the effects applied to a question slide.
Does anyone have any ideas?

If you want to test the effects on a particular slide from your Question Pool, and you don't want to have to publish all slides to see it, just right click the slide from the question pool, and select Move Question To > Main Project.
Then you'll have the ability to preview the effects as with any other slide. When you know the slide is completed, just move it back into the Question Pool.

Verify you are using iPhoto11 ver 9.5
if not run the >Software update or check your apps folder and make sure the correct iPhoto is launched, not an older ver.
