  • How do I add hyperlinks in the PDF output

I am generating the PDF output from my DITA sources by using the menu option File > Save as PDF and hyperlinks are not taken into account.
What can I do to get them working?
    Thank you for your help.

What do you mean by "hyperlinks"? Cross-references (using xref or link elements) to other targets in DITA topics? External xrefs to URLs or other targets outside of the scope of the project? Or are you creating other types of hyperlinks?
Also .. what version of FM are you using (I know you said earlier, but I've forgotten).

  • Oracle Report, How to Display Polish Characters in a PDF Output

    Environment :
Oracle Application Server version 10.1.2.0.2 on Red Hat 4 Enterprise (Kernel 2.6.9-42.0.3 , 32 bit) Oracle Database Version 10.2.0.3.0 Our character set of database is UTF8
I have trouble to display polish characters in Reports Output. We develop on Windows XP machines. I can see the Polish Caharacters in the Reports Builder using several fonts (arial, arial unicode, Times new roman, verdana...) during design time or when running with the paper layout. But when the report deployed to application server running on the linux, the polish characters are replaced by symbols.
Even under Windows, when I select 'generate to a PDF' file option, the characters are not displayed correctly (When I open the generated PDF file with Acrobat reader and go to Document Properties / Fonts, I see the Fonts are always replaced with Adobe Sans MM)
Using the Forms Applications running on the same application server we have no trouble dealing/displaying with the characters (Ąą ĆćĘę Ł ł ŃńÓóŚ ś Ź ź Ż ż ß Đ đ € )
NLS_LANG setting is AMERICAN_AMERICA.UTF8 on the Linux Box and AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1250 is on the Development machines. (have tried a number of different NLS_LANG settings on the development box as well with no luck).
    Any direction would be appreciated.

    Hi,
You have several different approaches to fix this problem. First of all, you would be able to generate the PDF output with Font Subsetting setup and be able to see the Polish characters correctly when running the output with destype=cache&desformat=pdf. The following metalink documents would guide you with this setup :
Note.207711.1 "How to Use Font Subsetting in Reports 9i and 10g for PDF Output"
As at design time you use many different Windows specific fonts, I also advice you to check the following document :
Note.356221.1 "A Practical Methodology on Porting Reports from Windows to Unix with Different Fonts"
Once the PDF output is generated properly with correct characters, then if you need to use "destype=printer" for direct print, rather than "destype=cache" to display the output in browser, then you can use the "PDFPrint" pluggable destination, which is located in :

  • How to embedd barcode into the PDF output

Reports 9i documentation indicate that now it's possible to embedd barcode font into the generated pdf report output. Anybody done this or have any example how to do it ?
Any help will be great. (tryed to play with the uifont.ali file - no luck.)

    Yes, i've seen this document.
I'm trying to embedd barcode font into generated PDF file using entries in the uifont.ali file. Can't make it working.
Did not look into using JavaBeans yet (don't want to do additional overhead yet.)
Anybody has success doing this task ? Do you have - How to ... or something on this ?
    Any help will be great.

If you are running Mac OS X 10.7.3 then you have Lion installed, not Snow Leopard. It's probably not important to this discussion, but something you should be aware of.
What application are you printing the PDF files from? Have you tried opening the PDF file using the Preview application that can be found in the Applications folder? Does the issue still occur? Have you tried other PDF files from a different source?
Another poster in the following discussion thread reported that this method resolved their black blank PDF issue when viewing (and presumably printing) PDF files from Safari.

There's a solution if you want to see the PDF inside Safari's window :
Go to the folder : Your Hard Drive / Library / Internet Plug-ins.
If you see a file with PDF in its name drag it to the trash.
Quit and restart Safari to test with a PDF.
If it works you can empty the trash.

  • Multiple Thread of a xml publisher report - messed up fonts in the PDF out

We are running 60000 invoices at a given time. In order to get the job done faster, the xml publisher report is set up to run mulitple threads. Each thread running unique set of invoices.
I am seeing this issue, randomly.
The pdf output of the invoice is having the fonts messed up. font 10 shows up as 14 and the invoice looks very bad.
When i rerun the same set of invoices it looks absolutely normal.
Also if I retrieve the xml output of the bad pdf and view it through the xmlpub desktop, it looks perfectly fine.
Two times we saw this issue
    PRODUCTION
    - when i run 8 threads, i saw this issue in one of the thread and affected one invoice. (Production- 1 concurrent processing node+ 5 OPP processes and 5 threads + MEMORY is J:oracle.apps.fnd.cp.gsf.GSMServiceController:-mx3072m )
    TEST INSTANCE
    - when i ran with 16 threads, one of the thread running xml pub report affected all the invoices (UAT environment-1 concurrent processing node+ 7 OPP processes and 1 threads + MEMORY is J:oracle.apps.fnd.cp.gsf.GSMServiceController:-mx3072m )
Looks like it is happening when running multiple threads.
The formatting command or information is getting lost somewhere and the report is all messed up.
    Please advise.
    Thanks
    SJ

Really appreciate your response. Can you pls give little more details.
1] Are there any standard API's which I can use to submit XML publisher report from the JSP pages
2]Is there any sample code snippet for any of the options that I can refer to..or pls let me know the API's, I will check on them
    Appreciate any help

How do I change font in the whole document at the same time?

Menu > View > Show Styles Drawer
Menu > Help > Pages User Guide
Download and read page 27 on creating and using Styles, which is done largely by example ie you make the text what you want then save it as a Style to be applied wherever you want in the document from the Styles Drawer.

I want  to edit bar code field data using Adobe Reader. Bar Code field was designed and data was changing using Acrobat X1 Professional (Trial Version). But can't do so in adobe reader.

I think that product has nothing to do with it. You would use LiveCycle Reader Extensions.

Bob's post says it all. Preview ignores the PDF's Initial View setting, and beyond that, it's a horribly unreliable vehicle for accurate viewing of...just about anything. If you're engaged in professional design work, Preview has no legitimate place in your workflow.

How can change the font in the script output and the data grid in Sql Developer?

You can't easily unless you have the latest version (2.1.1).
If you do have this version then changing the font in the Tools/Preferences menu under the code editor/fonts section will also change the font of the data grid.
For details of changing the fonts in an earlier version then see Sue's post below.

How do we go about replacing the damaged fonts?
I treid to delete and reinstall but no sucess.
Also, Mac systems can only have active about 250 fonts.
PC systems can have up to 1,000 fonts and run very smoothly with any hitches.
    Any sloutions or recommendations?

How is it that fonts in the Mac system can be damaged?
As ds store noted. Any file on any part of the drive can be damaged at any time. This is true of any OS, not just the Mac.
It does not happen in PC systems, ever!
Why in the world would you think that's true? I used DOS/Windows for years. Fonts on PCs get damaged too, for pretty much the same reasons.
How do we go about replacing the damaged fonts?
You can replace just the fonts from your Snow Leopard installation disk. See the bottom of my article, Font Management in OS X for instructions.
I tried to delete and reinstall but no success.
Not enough info. Reinstalled from where?
Also, Mac systems can only have active about 250 fonts.
I don't know where you read or heard that, but it's 100% wrong.
PC systems can have up to 1,000 fonts and run very smoothly with any hitches.
And I've had as many as 8500 active (for testing, I would never do it day to day). Do I win?
    Any solutions or recommendations?
The most likely reason, assuming you replaced the fonts with known good copies is Font Book. Put bluntly, it's one of the worst font managers available. It's database is easily corrupted. When that happens, fonts that are marked as active in its interface won't appear in some, or all apps. You'll find you can't activate or deactivate fonts. Use these steps to clean Font Book up so it works.
Restart your Mac and immediately hold down the Shift key when you hear the startup chime to boot into Safe Mode. Keep holding the Shift key until you see a progress bar towards the bottom of the screen. You can let go of the Shift key at that point.
OS X asks you to log in (you will get this screen on a Safe Mode boot even if your Mac is set to automatically log in). Let the Mac finish booting to the desktop and then restart normally. This will clear Font Book's database and the cache files of the user account you logged into in Safe Mode.
After the Mac finishes booting back to the desktop from Safe Mode, do the following to clear the rest of the font cache files.
Close all running applications. From an administrator account, open the Terminal app and enter the following command. You can also copy/paste it from here into the Terminal window:
    sudo atsutil databases -remove
Terminal will then ask for your admin password. As you type, it will not show anything, so be sure to enter it correctly.
This removes all font cache files. Both for the system and the current user font cache files. After running the command, close Terminal and immediately restart your Mac.
Looks like I made a wrong choice.
As opposed to what? Dealing with viruses each and every day?
I thought that Mac systems was very stable when it comes to graphic related applications, but it seems that I was WRONG.
Boy, you sure know how to make people want to help you.
A simple font base also Mac system cannot handle as well as a PC based system.
Also flat out wrong. Fonts are simple. You add them and use them. Turn them off when you don't want them active. Learning and understanding a new OS is usually a good idea before you start trashing it.
If problems return soon after resetting Font Book with the notes above, then you most likely installed junk fonts. Free fonts are worth what you paid for them and are the number one source of such problems on both Macs and PCs.
Secondly, get rid of Font Book. If you use and manage fonts every day, get a professional manager. Suitcase Fusion 4 and FontExplorerX Pro are your best choices.
I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.

    Hello
I'm tryin' to build some PDF outputs and I have the next problem: I have 20 reports to make it on PDF form (viewed with the Acrobat plugin from IE 5.5 or higher) and when I try to see what was builded the PDF it's not always displayed ( mean it's not readed by the plugin). I generate the PDF output from a servlet (which also set the servlet output context as 'application/pdf') and, if the output it's generated too fast (meanning the report information was too small), the Acrobat plugin doesn't catch him ! I think that I have to slow down the servlet response to allow the plugin complete loading, but I don't khow how to do this (and, ofcourse, if it's possible).
