How to print full pathname of print job

hello,
i am planning on printing 100s of documents of various types (ms word, pdfs, excel files, etc). i am using snow leapord on a new imac, printing to a brother 5370DW laser printer. is there anyway i can setup this system so that when i send a print job to the printer, it includes the filename or (preferably) the full pathname of the file somewhere in the print job?
thanks.

this is an excellent idea, and there is a cover page option for my printer. i can see it when i bring up a ms word document, and then go to print it. however, i plan to be printing 100s of files by dragging and dropping files into the print queue (rather than printing from an application like ms word which gives me an option to select a cover page when i print something). does anyone know if i can somehow have a cover page printed for each document when i am printing by dragging and dropping lots of documents into a print queue at once?

  • Make finder display full pathnames

    I have an iMac with an SSD and a 2T HD.  I want to be able to put the stuff on the SSD that needs speed, and on the HD the stuff that needs space.
    To do that I need to be able to move stuff around physically, and to do that I need to see full path names in Finder for several files at once (rather than having to constantly use Get Info, one file at a time, and then remember it all!).
    Anybody know how to get full pathname as a column in the Finder, and to make that display by default?

  • How to set Internet Explorer to return full URL for the Print Job Name

    Hello all,
    On printing a web page from IE 6, 7, and 8 using javascript window.print command, the name of the printjob is truncated only to the first 63 characters. Unlike IE 9, it returns the full URL, or at least longer.
    Does anyone know the way to set those IE versions to return full or wider URL string?

    Sorry for lack of detail in my first post. I don't believe this has anything to do with javascript. The javascript command window.print() simply gives out command to the browser to print the web content.
    The situation is that, I open a webpage, for example,
    http://www.google.com.my/#sclient=psy&hl=en&source=hp&q=some+long+parameter+value+in+the+query+string&pbx=1&oq=some+long+parameter+value+in+the+query+string
    Then I right-click on the page and choose 'Print...' to print the page to a printer. Therefore, Windows spooler system will queue the print job with all the metadata about the doc that is printing. 1 of this metadata is document/printjob name, which are
    set to the name of the doc. In case of a web page from IE, this field will be populated with the URL of the page.
    I notice that, when I do printing from IE 9 of the above URL, the field document/printjob name is the whole URL string. But while in IE 8 and below, only the first 63 characters of the URL are populated into the field. (I.e:
    http://www.google.com.my/#sclient=psy&hl=en&source=hp&q=some+l)
    I believe this field is set by the application that sent out the printing command to the spooler. In this case, it's IE.
    So, my question is, is there any reg settings for IE 8 and below to force them to put in the whole URL in that field instead of truncates them to only 63 characters?

  • Printer windows; how to close upon completion of printed job?

    Whenever I print a job to one of the 4 printers I have set up in Leopard, a window appears on the dock for that printer. In OSX 10.4.11 this also occurs, but closes automatically on completion of the job; Leopard leave it on the dock. I have a full dock, so this creates an ever shrinking dock, and I would like it to close when finished. How can I set up Leopard to do this?

    When you next do a print job CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the Dock icon and select the option to close the printer upon completion from the contextual menu.

  • How to Capture print jobs and Data with WIN32 API?

    My organization has about 5 network printers and copiers to which a computer can print. What I'd like to do is build, if possible, a simple JAVA program to intercept what the users are printing (from any application) and capture certain information about the print jobs before it gets sent off to the specified printer.
    For example, when a user selects print from the menu in MS Word, and after the Ok button is pressed on the printers dialog window, have my program then pop up asking the user to fill in specific information (who they want to charge for the print job...this is typically an internal billing code, etc.).
    The program would have to capture the name/driver of the printer users are printing to, the document they printed, number of pages, number of copies, date/time, etc.
    Is/are there Windows API's to help in my programming of this application? I've been, unsuccessfully, searching MSDN, web sites, etc. on how to intercept/detect a print job. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks ahead of time...

    Hi,
    Printing is nothing to do with database transaction. SP will not apply here. You may only try SDK.

  • How to schedule a print job in Lion.

    I had snow leopard and when I upgraded to lion I can't figure out how to schedule print jobs. I use to be able to do work at night. Then print in the morning so I wouldnt disturb anyones sleep. How do I do it with Lion?

    I have to agree that it's lame not having the Scheduled Printing as an option. I will reiterate that I too enjoyed "completing" a task to print in the morning in order to not disturb others while sleeping.
    I've already sent Apple some Feedback. Hope it works and we can bring back this efficient option.

    Everyone has this problem. The workarounds given above are exactly that, workarounds.
    This is a bug. If you say delete something and nothing happens (not even a warning telling you that you can't delete this item) then it's a bug.
    OK, it's a bug. No one disputes that the Delete button not working is a bug.
    As for going into the CUPS admin interface, that is way over what a general user should have to do. I know how to do that, but the point of using a Mac is that I shouldn't have to do such things.
    This is debatable, but what's wrong with learning something new and having another workaround until Apple gets around to fixing this?
    This needs to be fixed.
    Submit feedback to Apple about this issue, but they are probably already aware of it since it has come up before.

  • Xerox Phaser 8860 on Network-How to turn off popup print job confirmations?

    I recently upgraded to OS 10.6.4 and as expected I needed to reinstall the drivers for a few peripherals. One of which was the Xerox Phaser 8860 which is on the network. Everything works, but now after each print job prints out a window pops up in the center of the screen notifying me that ::Job### has printed on Xerox Phaser 8860::. It causes no serious problems, but it does knock me out of what ever program I am using. Which can get extremely annoying when I'm drawing and I repeatedly get halted mid (pen/brush) stroke. It stays up on the screen for about a minute and a few times it has remained up. There is an option to close, it simply gets really annoying after the 30th time. Common sense would suggest to not draw while a file is on it's way to the printer, but my work day is a constant flow of drawing, printing, color tests and editing. It's not practical or good for deadlines to stop drawing to wait for a print job to come out and the pop up window to go away.
    I tested printing from the other computers, which are PC's using various versions of windows and they all come up with the same pop up window (though theirs come up at the bottom right of the screen). They do not receive confirmation windows from the other printers not on the network.
    This suggested to me that this was a setting with the Xerox software. However, I spoke to the technical support for Xerox and they said that the pop up window had nothing to do with their software and claim that it had to be generated by the Mac OS 10.6.4.
    I am regularly printing from the following programs:
    Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat, Word, and Excel. The pop out window has acquired while printing files from all of these programs. I doubt that has any relation but I thought I'd add it, just in case.
    I would very much like to know how to turn this confirmation notification off in OS 10.6.4. Or if anyone has an thoughts on what software could be the culprit.

    In CWIS go to Properties > General > Printer Defaults and disable the Startup page  As for garbage prints, That sounds like a PS error. And they are almost always due to improperly embedded fonts. Have all your users switch the following in their drivers (Picture is the global driver, but the regular driver will have the same option.) Essentially by default the printer uses its own locally stored fonts on the jobs, but when the fonts are misunderstood, or unknown it winds up printing wingdings.

  • How do I cancel a print job from my computer to my HP Photosmart 7510. Touchscreen is unavailable.

    HP Photosmart 7510 All-in-One CQ877a Model C3112; Operating system Windows Vista 64-bit.
    Can't find how to easily cancel a print job. The touch screen is unavailable during the printing process (just shows the HP icon spinning around during the print process). There isn't a "cancel" button or touch area to cancel. We're wasting ink and paper by not being able to cancel jobs easily. Read the 24-page manual and it doesn't mention it. Looked on line for an answer, can't seem to locate one. Can always go to Start, Printers, and select the printer and then cancel from within there, but by then, the job is finished.

    There should be a cancel button (X) on the printer. Check out the pic below taken from page 7 of the User manual for your printer:
    http://goo.gl/mW7Fy
    Alternately, instead of going the Start button route, did you check out the Final tip at the bottom of the article?
    "Final Tip (Shortcut)
    Before using the method above to open the print queue, look for the printer icon in the notification area. If you see it, double-click it to bring up the print queue. "

    HI Swati,
    Thanks for the additional info. as per previously mentioned use SM37 - however be sure to check the box ''Sched' when performing the search for the job in question (and untick the others so the resulting list will be clearer to read etc.)
    You can then choose to delete the job and reschedule it to different periods via SM36

  • How to cancel a print job in progress

    I have a HP C5580.  When i was using Windows ME on my former PC, I could easily go to Printers, select the 5580,  hit documents in queue, and hit cancel , and the printer stopped.
    Got a new Compaq  PC with Windows 7, and I can't figure out how to cancel a print job  mid stream.  I go to Printers and Devices, giet the page that allows me to view the print jobs in queue, I hit "print job in process", but the "Cancel" is not in bold print and I can'tfind any other way to cancel the job.
    Help !

    The easiest way to cancel a print job would be by pressing the cancle button on the front panel.  This is the "X" button near the right side of the control panel, see pages 10 and 11 of the user manual here.

  • JS: How to make a script to print one page at a time and set print job name?

    What I want is to print one page at a time to the printer.
    Document.print(false, app.printerPresets.item(0)) almost get me there. But how do I get it to print page by page? There seems to be no way to set which page to print to printerPreset.
    Also, is it possible to change print job name from the default of using document name?

    Here is an altered and abriged version of the script that I use. I use print preset called "PS to PDF" in it, so you should change it to your own.
    if(app.documents.length == 0){

       myPrintPrefs.activePrinterPreset = app.printerPresets.item("PS to PDF");
    myDoc.sections.everyItem().sectionPrefix = "";
    myDoc.sections.everyItem().includeSectionPrefix = false;
       var stop = myDoc.pages.length;
       var w = new Window ( 'window', 'Printing PS-files' );
       var pb = w.add ('progressbar', [12, 12, 300, 24], 0, stop);
       var txt = w.add('statictext');

       pb.value = curPage;
       var myText = String("Page " + curPage + " of " + myDoc.pages.length);

       var myPageName = myDoc.pages.item(myCounter).name;
       var cornumber = pagenum(myPageName);

       var myFile = new File(myFilePath);
       myPrintPrefs.pageRange = myPageName;
       myPrintPrefs.printFile = myFile;
       myDoc.print(false);
    w.hide();
    alert("Done!");
