How to print three 4x6" prints on 8.5x11" page in Lightroom?

Is there any way to create a Lightroom print template that prints three different 4x6" images onto a single 8.5x11" page? There's plenty of room on the page to do this--it just involves printing two in one orientation and a third in the opposite orientation. For example, on a portrait letter size page print 2 portrait orientation 4x6" images butted up against one another and a third 4x6" landscape image below those.
I have figured out how to create this layout arrangement in the Picture Package portion of the Lightroom 2 print module, but then I get three copies of the *same* image whereas I want to print 3 different images. As far as I can tell the Contact Sheet/Grid printing (which prints 1 of each image) doesn't have the capacity for adding "cells" of different sizes or orientations. It offers only a simple 'rows and columns' approach to laying out photos on a page.
Ultimately my goal is to select a bunch of images in Lightroom and print one copy of each image at 4x6". I want them all printed on a series of 8.5x11" pages fitting the maximum number of images on each page. In case you're wondering, the '2x2 Cells' template that comes in Lightroom doesn't work for me because you can't quite get the size up to 4x6".
Can anyone help me? I have Lightroom 2 and Lightroom 1.4. I also have Photoshop CS3 and can't figure out how to do it there either (though I'd prefer to stay in Lightroom the whole time). I'm running Windows XP Pro SP3 and I have a Canon S900 printer using Epson Premium Semi gloss Photo Paper.

>I was afraid that was the answer. It seems like such a basic need for photographers to print 4x6's and efficiently use paper.
Believe me, you're not the first to ask about this.
>Jao--what's a minilab? Do you mean sending them out to print either online or at a physical store?
Either. They typically use the exact same machines. I use costcos for supercheap prints with a quality that is hard to match using your own printer. They even provide profiles that give you superb color. The only problem is that you don't have a choice of papers the same way you have at home and that the gamut is a little smaller than a very good inkjet. I use several more pro services too for better papers and only occasionally print myself. Usually making me curse at the EPSON clogging inkjets (TM) make-me-lose-twice-the-amount-of-ink-per-print-as-advertised feature. Printing myself costs me 4 to 5 times as much as labs and that is when Lightroom behaves and doesn't without warning start double managing the color. Sometimes you want that personal attention though or that art paper and then the cost of the print is often negligible with respect to the sale.

  • How do you print a 4x6 photo

HOW DO YOU PRINT A 4X6 PHOTO

Such a vague question, the answer could be with a printer silly, or with a printing service, or well you get he jist.
In photoshop, you can set the document size using the menu option Image>Image>Size the set the physcal unit to inches and set your width and height to 4 x 6 and set the ppi to 300.
Another option is to open an image the either reduce the entire size by using the Image>Image size or use the crop tool which will remove portions of the image you don't want.
Before doing any reductions, plan out what you will be printing on. Does your printer support 4x6 paper? If not you will need to print to a full page 8 1/2 x 11 for example.
For this example you will create a new document set the image size to the full sheet of paper. Then you can drag the opened 4x6 image to 8.5 x 11 document or use file>place and place your 4x6 images that are already saved on your drive.
In the 8.5x11 document you can rearrange the 4x6 images how you see fit. When you print the page, you can then cut the prints with sissors or a paper cutter.
And I am going to quit there as I am sure, I already went overboard with instructions.

  • How do I  set up printer network with my two macs?

I tried to find an answer to this "newbie" question but didn't seem to find exactly what I am needed to know.
We have a desk top Mac G5 (Tiger) that belongs to my partner (lets call that Jim's Computer) which is connected to an HP 6310 printer via USB. I have a new Macbook (Leopard) that I use exclusively with the Airport terminal. I need to be able to click print on the laptop what ever office I am in, and go to the main office and get my page off the printer. Both computers are on the same connection, the airport is a branch off the main hub.
We have set both computers to "share printers" on all accounts. My Macbook sees "Jim's Computer" and will subset it so I can actually see all three user files on his computer (Jim, mrbarth, B&B guest). I can easily access my folders and files in my accounts from computer to computer via Airport this way. I can not, however, use the printer function. I also need to point out that his computer is password protected for his account(Master) but I have access to both my account and guest account files if this makes any difference.
Here is how I have both computers set up. Please tell me what I am doing wrong or what I need to add to make this work.
On the main Desktop (w/printer attached) I have the printer Info which states its location at "Jim's Computer", its host name with a "lot of numbers plus our Internet service provider's CC.shawcable.net". It is set on the master and other accounts to share printer. On my laptop I have (under options and supplies) Location "Jim's computer" and host name "localhost". I also have the printer configuration to share on my Macbook.
Do I need to somehow change the location of my Macbook configuration to read something like: "Jim's computer/mrbarth" or "Jim's computer.mrbarth"?
Sorry for not understanding this. I am sure it is very easy and I just have one thing in the chain wrong. I am still a newbie on this even though I have been at the keyboards for over 10 years.

First, you need to try logging into his admin account and trying to print. If that works then most likely there's something he must configure for the account you normally log into on his computer to allow a remote user to print.
Second, consult the printer's manual to ascertain what if anything may require configuration to allow wireless printing. It's also likely that if you cannot print wirelessly that it's a problem with the printer driver that was selected when you added the shared printer. If there's a GutenPrint driver for you printer model try using it instead of the manufacturer's proprietary driver. If you don't have these drivers installed you can install them from your OS X Installer Disc's Optional Installs installer or you can download them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
Usually troubleshooting this type of issue requires starting from the basics. First be sure you can print when the printer is connected directly to your computer. Then check to be sure you can print with the printer shared from the other computer without any sort of imposed protections, firewalls, etc. Since this is a USB printer be sure you enable Printer Sharing on the computer to which the printer is connected. File Sharing is not a requirement for printing, but Printer Sharing is. Once you determine things are working with the most basic setup, you can start adding in each piece to the final setup checking along the way until either everything works or you find where it stops working. You can then start troubleshooting that issue.

  • There are hidden pages in the PDF form I have.  How can I see and print all without clicking on the

I have hidden pages in the PDF form I'm using (but didn't create).  How can I see and print all the pages at once without clicking on the "next page" button.  In the initial view, there are four pages, but if I click the "next page" button, there are a total of 12 pages in this document.  This is three budget years, each year being 4 pages long.

You're most likely dealing with a dynamic XFA form created in LiveCycle Designer. You can open it, click the button, and save it, and it will most likely be 12 pages when next opened, but it depends on how the form is set up. The ability to make edits to an XFA form in Acrobat is very limited, especially for dynamic forms, so things like flattening aren't possible.
If it's not an XFA form, you'd still need to click the button at least once and save. To say for sure what's possible, I'd need to see the document. Can you post it somewhere?

  • #*$!%! Can't figure out how REALLY to set the printing defaults so they STICK for everything

On our 6-month old HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 Wireless A909g, we can't seem to figure out how to set the DEFAULT printing parameters so they really apply to all docs (unless we designate otherwise for a particular doc, of course).  When we set them, sometimes they work for the next doc, and sometimes they revert back to an earlier setting.
There seem to be three ways to set parameters for the printer: Properties, Printing Preferences or Printing Defaults on the Advanced tab.  (We really thought Printing Defaults on the Advanced tab would do it, since it's so hard to find, but ... NOT.)
My partner thinks it's an HP conspiracy to sell more ink because the reversion is to General with Color (the most ink-intensive, as far as I can figure out).  We are trying to fix the machine to start always with Fast-Economical/Black Ink Only.  Sometimes it's there and sometimes we have to re-jigger first.  We still have to check every time.
Also, I want to fix every job to "Print Back to Front" because the printer shoots out the pages face up.  Again, sometimes it's there, and sometimes we have to re-set before the job.
Also, whether we get the default we had set or we re-jigger first, the settings don't stick for every worksheet in an Excel workbook.  Or sometimes not even every page.
So, who out there has the 100% foolproof guide to NAILING DOWN THOSE SETTINGS FOR EVERYTHING?

  • How do I set my printer to black and white ONLY?

I have an HP Photosmart All-In-One C4480.  I don't want to have to buy color cartridges, because I only need black and white, and I have three black and white cartridges already.  How do I set the printer to print my documents in black and white only?
    Thanks,
    TW

    Hi,
Follow the steps below to print using Black Ink only:
    1. From the application used to print, click the File menu and select Print. The Print window appears.
NOTE: The Print window might be minimized: Click the Show Details button to see all available settings.
    2. To access the color options, click the lowest selection box listed as the name of the program (e.g. TextEdit)
Will appear as Copies & Pages within Microsoft Office applications.
    3. Select Paper Type/Quality from the drop-down menu.
    4. Click the triangle next to Color Options to expend the settings.
    5. Set the Color field as Grayscale.
    6. Set the Grayscale Mode as Black Ink Cartridge Only.
You may save the settings for future use by clicking Presets > Save Current Settings as Preset...
Any used preset will remain default so simply select teh standard preset to print in color.

  • How to force Tiger to print doc within Classic environment, not with OSX?

I want to print certain documents using OS9's printing utility within the Classic environment, and NOT using Tiger's standard OSX printing method. How?
I know it is possible because I have two Macs connected to the same printer, and it works on one and not the other. I can't figure out why.
    Here are the specifics:
I have a printer, the Ricoh Laser AP2600. Connected to it are two computers:
    a PowerBook G4 running 10.4.7, and
    an iMac running 10.3.9.
When I print documents from OSX applications, the two computers take the exact same time to print. HOWEVER, when I print from Classic applications, the iMac running 10.3.9 prints very quickly, but the PB running 10.4.7 takes two to three times as long. That's because the iMac prints the document using the old OS9 "Print Monitor" printing utility, and never passes the printing back to Tiger. Whenever I try to print a document from a Classic application on the PB, however, it passes the printing to the standard OSX printing method, which (for some reason) is much slower.
(Sorry if I'm not using the right terminology.)
I checked and double-checked, and as far as I can tell, all the "printer descriptions" and "drivers" and everything else is absolutely identical in both System 9 "Extension" folders on both computers. I installed the exact same Ricoh print-driver packages for OSX and Classic on both machines identically. So -- why does one print quickly within Classic, and the other pass the printing job back to slow OSX?
The specific application that causes this discrepancy is MSWord 5.1a, a very old version that only works under Classic. (I use it a lot because I prefer it to more recent versions of MSWord.)
A secondary, but related, question: Why does printing documents from within the Classic environment go so much more quickly than in OSX? It seems to be one of the few aspects of OSX that's worse than OS9.
So -- how can I make my PB behave like my iMac? Is there some difference between 10.3.9 and 10.4.7 that causes this different behavior? Any hints or suggestions would be most appreciated.
    Thanks.

OK, I have finally solved the problem -- mostly.
The trick was to click on the Chooser option called "PSPrinter" -- not LaserWriter 8 or any of the others. I took a chance on that since I knew that the Ricoh 2600 was a PostScript printer. When I clicked on it, and chose "Set up printer," I was able to set up the Ricoh driver. Then, when I tried printing, it worked -- it printed within the Classic environment, not in Tiger. And what a difference!! Under Tiger, a simple page of text takes 45 seconds to process and print. Under Classic, the exact same page processes and prints in 8 seconds! A huge difference. So, I finally got it to work.
The downside is that I can't get it to "stick." If I restart Classic (or the entire computer), the next time I go back to print in MSWord 5.1a (my Classic application), it will have reverted back to the Tiger method of printing. So, the first time I print a page in 5.1a during any session, I have to go to Chooser and select PSPrinter. This adds 15 seconds or so to the process, so printing a single page overall isn't any faster, if you add up all the steps. Subsequent prints all are done quickly in Classic automatically, as long as Classic hasn't restarted. (I can even quit the application and restart it without a problem -- only an OS restart causes it to revert back to Tiger printing.)
So, my basic problem is solved, and I'm fairly satisfied. But I still have two nagging issues that I wouldn't mind answered if anybody knows the answers:
How can I make my Chooser printer selection in Classic "stick" permanently from one restart to the next? Why does it revert to Tiger printing after a restart?
And the fundamental question: why is Classic printing so much faster than Tiger printing? I thought Tiger was supposed to be a "digital hub" that made communicating with peripherals so easy? In most ways it is, but why is printing the one way in which OSX is WORSE than OS9, at least in regards to speed?

    Hi John.
Perhaps it's a printer configuration problem (maybe the paper size is set to a different value than what's in the printer), but you may want to try printing with HP Photo Creations as a test. The program is a free download from www.hp.com/go/hppc, and can load photos from your iPhoto library.
