How to prompt for root/sudo credentials with Gnome

With other distros like Ubuntu, Gnome prompts for root/sudo authentication whenever applications like Gnome services are run from the Desktop menu.  How do you enable that feature in Arch?  I have tried different variations of gksude -u root, gksudo -S....  Nothing seems to work.
Thanks

Yeah, that's a known issue with the system tools. No bug report filed for it, though, I don't think. The buttons/services should work properly, though, if you were to try through a regular user and then unlocking after that.

    Hi all,
    How to check for a function module,with its description and its functionality,in detail how can I know the purpose of a particular function module,how to search for a function module which suits my requirement .

    Hi,
    You can search a FM of your requirement by putting in the Key words and searching for a FM. Like * KEYWORD * and then pressing F4.
    Say for example you need to search something regarding converstion.
    Search for * CONVERT * and press F4.
    If there is something specfic like converting date to something you can give
    DATE * CONVERT *
    OR
    CONVERT * DATE *  and press F4.
    Once you narrow down your search you will have a Function module documentation inside the Function module. Please note that all the FMs willl not have documentation.

    The film rented hasn´t subtitles in Portuguese.
    How should do for get a version with Portuguese subtitles ?

    If the film's description page in the store says that it has Portuguese subtitles then they should show as an option when playing it : iTunes: Language settings for video - Apple Support
    If it doesn't show an option then the film might have been mis-labelled in the store, in which case try the 'report a problem' page to contact iTunes Support : http://reportaproblem.apple.com

    Unless you enabled Find My iPad on it before it was stolen then there isn't any way to locate it. If you did enable it then you could try locating it either via http://icloud.com on a computer or Find My iPhone on another device - but that will only work if it's connected to a network and the device hasn't already been wiped and/or Find My iPad disabled on it.
    If it was stolen then you should report it to the police. You should also change your iTunes account password, your email account passwords, and any passwords that you'd stored on websites/emails/notes etc.
    If it was never registered to your account then it won't appear on your support profile : https://supportprofile.apple.com/

  • Elevate wrapper / auto prompt for different user credentials APP-V 5.0 for e.g SCCM / SCVMM Consoles

    Hi I have a couple of questions about running APP-V programs as a different user,
    1. What is the best way to get specific APP-V 5 package to automatically prompt for different (e.g. Admin ) credentials when it launches for E.g the Microsoft System Centre consoles?
    2. If I publish an app via the APP-V server, when I do a shift right click run as different user/admin on an APP-V package it fails to launch. It's as if the other user does not have rights to the package?
    However, when I run the MSI that comes with an APP-V package on a test client, I can do Run as different user.
    Will I need to edit something in the DeploymentConfig / UserConfig xml files?
    Kind regards,

  • After jumpstart host doesn't prompt for root password

    Hiya gang,
    I am migrating my jumpstart functionality to a new server and while it would appear that 100% of things are identical on both (as far as my /jumpstart tree is concerned), when I jumpstart a host (V240, in this case, but I've seen it on a SunBlade 150 too) everything appears to go well, but after the host reboots at the very end and I attempt to log in on console as root I am not even prompted for a password.
    I've booted to single user over the net and on the disk that was just jumpstarted I see what would appear to be a normal Solaris system. There are no indications that I can find of why it wouldn't prompt for password at all, and I'm not well enough versed with the way the login functionality works to know why this is.
    My new jumpstart server is running Solaris 10 (08/07), and I'm trying to jump a host with the same version. The very same jumpstart using my old jumpstart server works just fine.
    Thanks in advance,
    pb

    Darren,
    Thanks for your reply. It got me in the right frame of mind for troubleshooting :)
    I set up pam debugging for pam_ldap and got the following messages in /var/adm/messages:
    Aug 29 10:13:46 testfoo login: [ID 293258 auth.warning] libsldap: Status: 2 Mesg: Unable to load configuration '/var/ldap/ldap_client_file' ('').

    Aug 29 10:57:49 testfoo login[1225]: [ID 105162 auth.alert] open_pam_conf: Owner of /etc/pam.conf is not root
    ...so, I checked them out and /etc/pam.conf and /usr/lib/security/pam_mkhomedir.so are both owned nobody:nobody, which smelled like an NFS issue since both of those files are copied over to the hosts as part of a JASS_FILES variable, but during the finish script execution (they're copied by install-templates.fin). So, I did some digging there and found another Sun forum thread that had info on it:
    http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=841&threadID=5100999
    ...so I made the requisite change to /etc/default/nfs (setting the max version to 3) and the next jumpstart I tested worked perfectly, password prompt and all. All files that were previously owned nobody:nobody had the correct ownership this time around.
    Crazy!
    Thanks again Darren for your input!

  • How to prompt for user input in Forms

    How do I prompt for user input in Forms?
    I am writing a piece of code where the user may choose, by clicking either of three buttons on an alert, to have the system assign a value to a variable, to input a value or to do neither?
    If the user chooses to input the value I want to update a set of database fields with the value.
    I have thought about showing a view where the value may be entered into a field displayed on that view. The value will be assigned to the variable by the user clicking a command button. The question I have in this case though, is whether, after the command button is clicked, control will be passed back to the code that called the view in the first place?

    Desgordon,
    This can be accomplished by displaying your message to the user using an Alert. I use 3 different Alerts (Note, Caution and Stop) in my forms and they are inherited from a central source file (such as an Object Library or a Template Form) so they can be used by all of my Forms. You can set the text of the Alert using the SET_ALERT_PROPERTY() built-in and capture what button the user presses with the SHOW_ALERT() built-in. Additionally, if you need more than one button to be displayed in an alert, you use the SET_ALERT_BUTTON_PROPERTY() built-in to rename the default button or to add up to a total of three buttons in the alert. Here's an example:
    DECLARE
       Alert_ID       ALERT;
       v_AlertType    VARCHAR2(10) := 'CAUTION';
       v_AlertTitle     VARCHAR2(25);
       v_AlertText    VARCHAR2(150);
       n_AlertButton  NUMBER;
    BEGIN
       v_AlertTitle := 'Title of Alert';
       v_AlertText := 'This is message to the user.';
       /* Code leading up to the decision point. */
       alert_id := FIND_ALERT(v_AlertType);
       /* Note: I only set the Label of Button 2 because the default button 1 label is 'OK' */
       SET_ALERT_BUTTON_PROPERTY(v_AlertType, ALERT_BUTTON2, LABEL, 'Cancel');
       SET_ALERT_PROPERTY(Alert_ID, v_AlertTitle, v_AlertText);
       n_AlertButton := SHOW_ALERT(Alert_ID);
      /* Now I can test the value of n_AlertButton for 1 or 2 to find out what button the user selected. */
      IF ( n_AlertButton = 1 ) THEN
         /* Do something, because the user selected 'OK' */
      ELSE
         /* It is assumed at this point that the user selected 'CANCEL' */
         /* Stop processing any further. */
         RAISE form_trigger_error;
      END IF;
    END:Hope this helps.

  • Snow Leopard Finder always prompting for root password

    I've just 'upgraded' to Snow Leopard from Tiger on my Macbook Pro, only because increasing numbers of applications wouldn't install on Tiger. Snow Leopard is significantly slower than Tiger (2 gig plainly isn't enough for SL) and it's knackered a few of my installed applications, but that's not the main irritation. Now, when I carry out any move or delete operations in the Applications folder in Finder, I'm repeatedly prompted for the root password, even though I'm logged in as the root user. As it's quite a long password, for security reasons, this is a real PITA. Under Tiger, I was never so prompted. Can anyone suggest why Leopard's producing this prompt, and what can be done about it? Other than de-install SL and re-install Tiger, that is...

    Ok, I suppose I should be a bit more accurate. I login as user 'fredriley' which is a user with superuser rights. I don't login as 'root' because that's pretty bad practice in the Unix world (and rightly so), so my original message was inaccurate.
    I'm guessing that's a mistype and should say "For several reasons that's not recommended" since in OS X root is disabled by default. What you were really getting a prompt for is the admin password. But you know that.
    Now, though, I find some apps that would work under Tiger not working under SL, and I see no real functionality gain from 10.4 to 10.6. Ho hum.
    Only because the application versions you have were written for an OS that was superseded almost four years ago. The current versions of those apps are likely better than ever.
    As for "no functionality gain" ...look harder. For me, Tiger was a good solid OS with a few annoyances, Leopard was even more solid with the refinement and removal of most of the Tiger annoyances, and Snow Leopard is a further optimization.
    Some people complain about new versions of various apps and OSs only getting loaded down with feature bloat. Well, with OS X you also get a lot of refinement and optimization. If a new version appears to have "no functionality gain," would that not imply that most of the work went into substance (performance, efficiency, workflow) rather than style (feature bloat and eye candy)? Just trying to help you keep an open mind. Personally, I would not want to go back to Tiger because I would miss the subtle but positive adjustments that were made since then. Tiger would just annoy me now.

  • How to Prompt for User/Pass Running Shell Script Remotely through ARD

    So I finally got my Active Directory Script working! However, I realized that I'm not the only one going to be running this script and to have my user name and password in the script itself is beyond foolish. While I know it's possible just to have whoever's running the script to manually add their username and password, I'd prefer to have prompts to make things easier for the rest of my team.
    Here's my current script. I've tested it on the machine I'm connecting to Active Directory and it works fine if you run it on the machine itself in terminal. However, I'm going to be doing this on about 150 machines and the whole point of the script is to do it remotely.
    #! /bin/bash
    MACNAME=$(scutil --get ComputerName)
    read -p "User Name: " USER
    read -p "Password for $USER: " PASS
    dsconfigad -add "CORP.DOMAIN.NET" \
    -username $USER \
    -password $PASS \
    -computer $MACNAME \
    -mobile disable \
    -mobileconfirm disable \
    -localhome enable \
    -useuncpath enable \
    -shell /bin/bash \
    -ou OU=Macs,CN=Computers,DC=corp,DC=DOMAIN,DC=net \
    -force \
    -localpassword "PASSWORD" \
    -groups "GROUPS"
    When I run the UNIX script through ARD to a machine, I get no prompts for USER or PASS. In fact, it gives me the following error "dsconfigad: Authentication server encountered an error while attempting the requested operation. (5202)" So it's not asking for a user name and password.
    Is there any way to make a shell script prompt you for a User Name and Password when you're sending commands remotely through ARD? Or is there another way to do this?
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    -rks

    Best solution is to create an account that is exclusive to binding machines.  By doing this, you can embed the user name and password in the script.  Heck, you can post it on your website.  If the account is configured properly, it will only be able to create machine records in a defined container.  If you are mixing Macs and PCs in your AD domain, I also recommend creating an isolated container for your Mac records.  Now, the account has even less access rights as you can make it so it only has rights to the Mac container.
    Otherwise, ARD does not prompt.  You can play around with an expect script but the reality is that you are still embedding the credentials in the script so it really does not achieve what you want.  ARD is not an interactive shell scripting tool.  It is more a fire and forget.

  • How to prompt for parameters (with details, please)

    Post Author: RainbowRiver
    CA Forum: Data Connectivity and SQL
    I have spent all afternoon on this. It should be fairly simple, but I just can't figure it out and the documentation is not helping.
    This is how the SQL Server stored procedure looks in Query Analyzer, and it works just fine:
    DECLARE @startDate datetimeDECLARE @endDate datetimeSET @startDate = '2007-11-01'SET @endDate = '2007-11-30'EXECUTE MonerisTransaction_ReportNotReconciledByDate @startDate, @endDate
    I have two parameter fields on the report for the two parameters of the stored procedure.
    In the database expert, if I select the stored procedure and click ">" to add it to the selected tables, there is no error message, but when I run the report, no data is displayed.
    If I add a command instead of a stored procedure, what do I type as the SQL query in the "Add Command To Report" text box? The only way I won't get an error message is if I enter the entire five lines of code above. I can add parameters by clicking the "Create" button, but if I don't enter the five lines of code above and I click OK, I get an error message that the start date parameter is missing.
    Why does it have to be so complicated?
    Can anyone help me? My job is at stake!

    I've figured it out for those who have the same problem.
    On the Database Expert screen:
    1. Expand the "Current Connection" node.
    2. Right-click "Add Command" under your connection and select "Add Command to Report" from the drop-down menu.
    3. On the "Modify Command" screen, in the text box with the header "Enter SQL query in the box below", enter:
    DECLARE @organizationID intDECLARE @date datetimeSET @organizationID = {?organizationID}SET @date = {?date}EXECUTE Report_ReconciliationSummary @organizationID, @date
    4. Still on the "Modify Command" screen, In the list with the header "Parameter List", create the following parameters:
         organizationID
         date
    5. Click OK.

  • How to program for two PCI cards with identical device ID?

    I have 2 PCI-6713 cards, and they have identical device ID. I'm trying to program in Linux using C++. I got some examples from NI, but non of them seems considering this problem. Where can I get help for this?
    Thanks.
    flofish

    The short answer is that you should read out the EEPROM on each of the two cards you find to determine which one is which.
    I don't have specific examples for the 6713 on how to do this, but here are the necessary pieces.
    EEPROM Read Example - this example is for the E series MIO card, but will be similar for the 6713.
    E Series RLPM - in chapter 5 it describes how to read the EEPROM, which corresponds to the example. The 6713 may have a different EEPROM on it than the example uses and you may have to adjust the code accordingly. Look on the 6713 to find the EEPROM and then look up its manual online. Most likely it is one of the following chips: MB88341, DAC8043, 8800.
    EEPROM Map for the 6713 - this is the roug
    h allocation of information within the 6713. I don't see the serial number listed, but it should be stored on there somewhere. You may want to read out the complete EEPROM and compare the values to the known serial numbers of your boards.

    Hi Gurus,
    I wanted to create a flexible, parametric report fro the TOPN function.
    Like this:
