How to properly clean?

Hey guys I just bought a MBP a couple days ago and I already spilled something on it... it hardened and I wanted to know how to properly clean it off my computer so I don't scratch it?
While I'm asking, I was wondering how to get rid of fingerprints off the screen? the computer did come with a cloth but I heard it doesn't do anything and a lens cleaner was better.. Thanks

  • How to properly clean install: erase, partition hard drive, and install tiger then SL

    Hello,
I am a noob at this, so if responders would be kind enough to be detailed / specific with any instructions it would be most helpful! I own a dinosaur apparently (even though I don't think so): the white (not unibody) Intel macbook2,1 (late 2006) 1.83 GHz with currently 1GB of RAM, but I have 2x2GB RAM sitting next to me ready for install. However, first I would like to do a clean uninstall of my computer (running OS X 10.6.8 SL). I also would like to properly partition my hard drive while I'm at it.
About 6 months ago I had serious crashing issues, along with kernel panics, hangs, applications randomly appearing & disappearing, system settings and options doing the same, fans running high (probably due to the low RAM available), and basically overall screwiness. So, after trying pretty much every option I could find on this community...and many others... (e.g. clean cache, clean old logs, already did a clean uninstall and install of SL, and much much more) I have reached my wits end. I would say that to date I've wasted a good solid 2 months with this.
The clean install worked for MAYBE a month or so, but then it started acting up again with the fans (even without high pages in/out, CPU or memory usage) and excessive heat, along with the apps freezing and quitting (mind you it would be only two things open such as 1 word document and then firefox-- with flash disabeled). SOOOOOO long story short, I have purchased new RAM and I would like to try this once again, but to ensure I don't screw it up this time I would like some directions as to how to do the uninstall, partition, then reinstall. (currently to date I ensured all updates are completed---even though they are no longer released for SL, and I just did a full backup).
Also, I need to first install Tiger (my original OS) as when I went to do a hardware test the other day this was not an option (and upon further research it is due to me not using Tiger as a first install and then using my mac box set for SL). I didn't use my original OS first because....one issue encountered when I had tried to install Tiger was that my Disc 2 (the applications one) took around 1.5 hrs to complete, but when I reached the last step of glory where I expected it to say COMPLETE it instead said that there was some sort of issue with the disc..........of course).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1: If near a Apple Store or Authorized Repair, take it to then for a free evaluation, it might have other hardware problems now that it would be a waste of effort even continuing.
2: The RAM needs to be
    Maximum Memory
3.0 GB (Actual) 2.0 GB (Apple)
    Memory Slots
    2 - 200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM
Basically what this means is you can put in a 2GB module and a 1GB module for 3GB total.
I wouldn't proceed with installing RAM just yet, not until you get a stable OS X version on the machine, you might have a hard drive needing to be replaced as well which you can do while inserting new RAM.
3: This User Tip can assist in installing 10.6 Snow Leopard, partition format etc.
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
Software Update fully immediately after setup.
There is no need to install Tiger, he 10.6 disk contains the full 10.6 version, you can either install the iLife from Tiger disks or use Pacifist from Charlesoft to extract them and place on your new install, then Software update to get them current.
4: If not successful then the drive also likely needs to be replaced, if so choose a 7,200 RPM SATA I  w/1.5Gb/s connection.
Install/upgrade RAM or storage drive in Mac's
    Repeat #3
If your getting beeping noises or "you need to restart" issues, it's likely one or more of the RAM modules is bad. Have it exchanged or swapped.
I advise good quality RAM the first time, if you buy cheap stuff it's just going back.
Don't go any further than 10.6.8 with that old machine, the performance will be terrible.

  • How to properly clean screen without streaking

Recently I took my three year-old white Macbook in for case repairs. When I got it back, the screen, which had imprints from the plastic keyboard cover I use, was perfectly clean.
I just cleaned my screen with IKlear and an IKlear cloth, and of course, the monitor is all streaked now. It happens when I go straight across, in circles, etc.
How can I get my screen perfectly clean like the Apple pros do? And how can I get stubborn stains, like skin oils transferred from my keyboard, off the screen?
    Thanks!

I use the same cloth and cleaner as I do with my eyeglasses.
A tip for the screen is to set the macbook screen down flat/facing up (not sitting like it usually is with the screen vertical.)
Now spray the screen and use the cloth to lightly push around the solution until it is all gone. It takes some practice, but I figured it out.
As for the keyboard, track pad and case - use a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. They cost like $2 and you can get them at like walmart. Then use them to clean the case, etc. They are meant to clean up whites, but they clean up my black macbook just fine!
    Hope that helps!

  • How to properly close task flow opened in new window?

Have a question on the best practice to properly close a task flow when it has been opened in a new window.
We are opening multiple bounded task flows concurrently in new windows but want to make sure the task flows are properly cleaned up. Scenario is that of an email in-box where the user can open multiple messages concurrently. Want to have the "Close" button that closes the window and properly exits the bounded task flow.

    Hi Frank
I'm hoping the after listener will fire (haven't tested it yet)
What I would like to do is to create a method in the application module that does (I'm typing this from memory so there might be some typos):
    procedure void cleanTransaction() {
        if this.getDBTransaction().isDirty() {
          this.getDBTransaction().rollback()
}then expose the method in the application module client implementation.
Then in a pageFlowScope bean method find the application module and call the cleanTransaction() method.
The bean method could then be hooked up to the after listenr.
Would this work, and how do I find the application module ?
Also I not sure if it is the application module hanlding the transaction or the data frame.
    Regards
    Paul

  • My Mac is running slowly and having some glitches in opening programs.  How can I clean upspace?

My Mac is running slowly and having some gliches when opening programs.  How can I clean up the disk to make it more efficient?

learn how to use Recovery Mode
Don't do anything until you can restore and have repaired the disk drive.
Post should get moved to either ML (10.8,.4) or iMac forum
Swap out the hdd for an SSD : )
Don't do anything to clean it up unless you don't know how to first remove browser history from within the programs; low on disk space (I consider more than even the 15% minimum, more like 3--40%)
And do you have page outs? more than enough RAM? what actually leads you to ask? Programs aren't opening properly?
Sometimes it is easier to take the long road: just reinstall and restore.

  • How to properly reinstall Aperture

    Good morning to you all;
I have been using Aperture for over a year and like the way it works. However, lately one of my plug-ins started acting strange and since me and the developer have exhausted all solutions, I would like to reinstall Aperture and see if it helps. As my library holds 15000+ pictures (98% of them referenced) and is around 60GB in size, I have a lot to lose.Mind you, I have it double backed up, but still would like to do the reinstall properly. *Could you pls advise me as to how to properly reinstall Aperture?* Thank you

Jade; thank you for your reply. I, indeed, only wanted to reinstall Aperture. No reimporting etc. Too much work. In the mean time I found the below info which covered all my questions. My problem is that when I select (cherry pick) several photos (lets say 80+) and try to upload them via Aperture to Picasa Web Plug in from Ubermind, the plug in tries to log in and then freezes. I am talking to their support guys and they are in deed very fast in replying. I just wanted to have a clean reinstall of Aperture to make sure there was no corruption.Any ideas are more then welcomed.
For reinstalling Aperture, I found these tips:
Another approach you might consider is reinstalling Aperture. To do this
effectively, you need to remove the application and its receipts, then
install Aperture and use Software Update to install additional updates. You
don't have to remove everything that was installed with Aperture. Follow
the steps below to completely reinstall a fresh copy of Aperture.
Note: Make sure that you have your installation discs nearby before
    starting this.
    1. Open the Applications folder.
    2. Drag the Aperture application to the Trash.
    3. Go to /Library/Receipts.
    4. In the Receipts folder, select the "Aperture.pkg" and
"ApertureSampleProjects.pkg" files. Note: If you have Aperture 1.5
    also select the "PluginManager.pkg" file.
    5. Drag the those .pkg files to the Trash.
    6. Insert your Aperture installation disc and install Aperture.
    7. When finished, choose Software Update from the Apple () menu to
update your software to the latest version.
For further information on settings or installation, please refer to the
Aperture documentation available on your installation discs.

also AppZapper is a good tool for this as well ...

How do I clean up mail in my icloud?  I have already deleted old mail (from all my e-mail accounts) on all devices, and emptied the junk & deleted files, but it still shows that I am at max on my icloud. What do I do to free up space? (photos & apps do not take up that much room).  When I go to manage storage on any device & it will display how much room each program or app is using, it still shows that my e-mail is taking up the most room.  Is there a way to actually log on to the icloud server to manage what it stored there?  If so, how do I do it?  Also, on a related subject,  why does my mail not sync accross all devices?   ie. when I delete an email on one device, why do I still see it on all my other devices?  How can I change this?
I have an iphone5, ipad2, ipod 4th gen, ipod 3rd gen, all running on my same apple id - but I have a PC not a Mac home computer - is this part of the problem?  Looking to upgrade to a Mac sometime this year...
    Thank-you for the help!

Mail is backed up automatically. If you make backups automatically, open Mail application and then, open the Time Machine app (in /Applications/Utilities). You will access to the Time Machine interface, and you will be able to see all your mails of all the backups you have, and you will be able to restore them. It means that your mails are backed up onto the Time Capsule

  • How to properly disconnect a Mini Display Port (MDP) from a Macbook Pro 2012, 1,9?

    Hello:
I was wondering if any Macxperts out there had any idea on how to properly disconnect a MDP Thunderbolt Cable from a 2012 1,9 Gen. Macbook Pro. From my experience with older Macbooks the command was "Command + F7" or something of the sort.
On my Macbook Pro 2012, there is no such button or commend to properly disconnect the plug; as if one were to disconnect or "eject" an external HD. I have read some articles on Google that some people just disconnect the plug and that action is sufice to disconnect an external video projection (Ex: Flat Screen Samsung).
Can a Macxpert or Genius comment on this piece of information? I would really apprecite some light shed on this situation. I just don't see unpluggin a cable connected to a video source enough to properly shut off a connection with out damaging the Macbook Pro's video card.
    Thanks

  • How can I clean up queue one-time on Sun Java system messaging 6.3

    Hi,
<address>Our Email server have a problem, When I run _./imsimta qm directory tcp_local_, There are about 5 Millions of messages in the queue.</address>
Now our Email server send messages very slowly, how can I clean up queue one-time?
the command _./imsimta qclean_ is very slowly.
What can I do to prevent this problem?
our Email server version is :
    Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 6.3-6.03 (built Mar 14 2008; 32bit)
    libimta.so 6.3-6.03 (built 17:12:37, Mar 14 2008; 32bit)
    SunOS email-1 5.10 Generic_120011-14 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V890
    Thank you !

If you have more than 100,000 messages in the queue, then look at the MAX_MESSAGES parameter in [the job_controller.cnf file|http://wikis.sun.com/display/CommSuite/Job+Controller+Configuration+File]. If the parameter is not specified, it defaults to 100000. If you have more than that number of messages in the channel queues, it will take a long time for new/legitimate messages to be sent because job_controller is only considering the first 100,000 messages in the queue.
If you get into the "imsimta qm" command do do "sum -database", it will show a summary of what job_controller has in its internal cache and therefore what job_controller is working on. If you compare that to "sum -directory" you will probably see a difference.
If these are all legitimate messages, you need to increase MAX_MESSAGES, cnbuild, and restart job_controller.
If they are not, then preventing this in the future will require determining how they got into your queue and correcting that.
As for removing them, the "imsimta qm" commands allow you to select messages by various criteria and then you can "return" or "delete" them. But yes, that will take a long time if there are many messages because it is a single threaded process and it needs to open and examine each message. You may be able to accomplish the task more quickly with a shell script that works on individual channel queue subdirectories and then run multiple copies of that script in parallel. After you have cleaned out the queue, restart job_controller.
Also, you might want to consider [the subdirs channel keyword|http://msg.wikidoc.info/index.php/Subdirs_and_nosubdirs_Channel_Options].

  • How do I clean the fans on my 2011 macbook pro 13inch

I have a early 2011 macbook pro 13 inch. It travels with me every where I go. I have had the computer almost three months now and have not had a problem with it.  Some how, debris got in to the fans. I am thinking it some how got sucked in to one of the intake vents. I hear it  (not often) ratteling when I move the computer or tilt it ECT.  It sounds like somthing is blowing around in the fan.  It is a scarry sound.  At first I thought it was the hard disk.   I know it is not the hard disk because I was listening to the computer  when it was making the sound and it is comming from the back end of the computer, nowhere near where hard disk is located. My question is, How do I clean/ remove the debris? should I be concernd?  other than that the computer runs normaly

Personally, I wouldn't touch them directly.  Use a vaccum (don't use one of those compressed air cans) to vacuum out all the stuff/dust/hair/etc.  Do not try to remove them.  Do not try to shove a stick or something in it.

  • I have duplicative song files in my library that are grayed out.  This seems to cause a syncing problem to my ipod or iphone.  How can I clean up this mess?

I chose to let iTunes rearrange my files and it appears to have duplicated them in my computer's drive.  So now I have the same folders/files directly under my D drive (second computer hard drive) and also in the iTunes Music Folder that iTunes created.  Wasn't sure what to do so I did another import and now I have files in my library that are grayed out with the small i symbol in the circle next to them.  I also have the working (bolded) files too.  How can I clean this up?

Is there a way to override the 256kbps "conversion" when uploading to iCloud?
No. All music that is mirrored in the cloud will be AAC@256 Kbps.
    Musicman05 wrote:
Along the same lines, if I "download" a song from my library to my iPhone, then plug my iPhone into my computer and sync the song file from my computer, will the higher quality original file overwrite the 256 one?
No, because with iTunes Match enabled on an iOS device traditional syncing of music via USB is disabled. All music management is done directly on the device.
    Musicman05 wrote:
Also, if I want to syncronize another computer using iTunes match, how can I get the higher quality audio files?  Will I simply have to transport all of them by an exernal hard drive or thumb drive?
You will first have to copy the high-quality audio files to the computer, add them to the iTunes library then enable iTunes Match.
