how do I uninstall unwanted programs/Apps on my MacPro?

    Go to:
    Finder > Applications
Drag the Application to the Trash.
    Empty The Trash
Dragging the Application Icon from anywhere else will not work.
The Icons of Applications in the (Finder > Applications) are actually the Application files.
If you right click an Applation in (Finder > Applications) and click 'Show Package Contents', all the files associated with the Application should be stored there.
So dragging the Application Icon in (Finder > Applications) to the Trash will uninstall it.

  • How to properly quit a program?

I remember reading somewhere that most Windows users who switched to Mac don't know how to properly quit a program. So, how do I "properly" quit a program when using Mac?
Thank you in advance for your reply.

Select Quit from the program's name menu which is usually the first item after the Apple menu in the left corner of the screen's menubar. Or you can press COMMAND and "Q" keys together which will quit the frontmost application.
Other options include CTRL- or RIGHT-clicking on the application's Dock icon and selecting Quit from the context menu. For misbehaving applications you may find a Force Quit option in the context menu. You can open the task manager by pressing COMMAND-OPTION-ESC keys together. Select the running application you wish to quit then click on the Force Quit button.

Are you unable to uninstall it from the app manager in the main settings menu?  How about long pressing the app in the app drawer and dragging up to the notification bar?  Does the app have a phone admin property checked in Settings-Security-Phone administrators?  Sometimes, if it does, apps will not uninstall until unchecked.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
    * [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • How do you uninstall a program from mountain lion osx

Hi first time on mac forum
my question is being new to imacs how do you uninstal a program from an imac running osx mountain lion. And of course get rid of the icon for that program from launchpad
    thanks

What app do you want to uninstall? If it's an app that is provided by the installation of OS X, e.g. Safari, Reminders, Notes, Mail, etc. - there are many others - they shouldn't be uninstalled.
If it is an app that was downloaded from the Mac App Store, in Launchpad click and hold its icon until it jiggles. Click on the 'x' in the corner to delete it.
If it's an app that was installed using an installer program it is always best to see if an uninstaller is available from the developer of the app (there is often an uninstaller bundled in with the installer package).
Other third party apps that are simply drag-installed into the Applications folder - like Skype, for example - can be just dragged to the Trash and will be deleted when the Trash is emptied.

So, if you see it in ->System Preferences->Users & Groups->[Login items], before you remove it with [-], control-click (right-click) the item and select Show in Finder to see where the program is located.

  • How do I uninstall unwanted programs?

Is there an easy way to quickly uninstall unwanted programs?
A few months ago, I installed a program called Plaxo, but after a short while I decided I didn´t want to use it any more.
The trouble is, it simply won´t go away!
Every time I start up the computer, I get an info that there is a new upgrade for the program - how do I get rid of it?
    Kind regards
    Willi Prochnow Sletten

If the application did not come with an uninstaller, I use a program like AppCleaner (free).
It will usually delete .plist files and cache files that were installed with the Application. This is useful if you don't know where to look.
Just dragging the App to the trash is often not enough as you may not be aware of all the support files that were installed in caches, preferences, application support.
If I no longer have the disc image of the program, I will search for it on google, download the installer again and look for an uninstall option. If there isn't one, I use AppCleaner.

  • How to properly uninstall mac games?

Namely World of Warcraft? New to macs and not sure how to formally uninstall stuff. Thanks.

    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. Most applications create preference files which are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. If you want you can located them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item. Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab. Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.
There are also several shareware utilities that can uninstall applications:
    AppZapper
    CleanApp
    Yank
    SuperPop
    Uninstaller
    Spring Cleaning
Look for them at www.versiontracker.com or www.mackupdate.com.

  • How do you uninstall a downloaded application

I want to re-install Adobe Digital Editions.  How do I uninstall original download?

    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.

Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, Easy Find, instead.  Download Easy Find at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
    AppZapper
    Automaton
    Hazel
    CleanApp
    Yank
    SuperPop
    Uninstaller
    Spring Cleaning
Look for them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • HOW DO I UNINSTALL A PROGRAM I DOWNLOADED ON MY MAC AIR

I HAVE A MACBOOK AIR VERSION OSX 10.9.5  1.7 GHZ PROCESSOR, 4G MEMORY .  5.81 GB STORAGE SPACE AVAIL.
I RECENTLY DOWNLOADED A TRIAL PROGRAM CALLED BRIDGE BARON.  WHEN I DECIDED TO PURCHASE IT, I CHOSE A DIFFERENT VENDOR.  BUT WHEN I DOWNLOADED THE PURCHASED VERSION, I WAS UNABLE TO OPEN IT TO REGISTER MY SERIAL NUMBER.  I WAS ALSO NOW UNABLE TO OPEN THE TRIAL VERSION.
I'D LIKE TO UNINSTALL THE TRIAL VERSION TO SEE IF THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE.  HOW DO I UNINSTALL THIS DOWNLOADED VERSION?

Also please remember to not use ALL UPPERCASE in your communication.  Most people will think either you are shouting or have a stuck keyboard.         6 GB of space available is not much.   You should keep at least 15% of your hard drive free.  For a fee*, you may visit my http://www.macmaps.com/diskfull.html to learn how to free up your disk space.
