How to properly uninstall McAfee LiveSafe _ Internet security

With my new HP desktop I got a 30 days free trail for the McAfee LiveSafe Internet security. I would line the correct procedure for uninstalling this product so I can put back my Norton Internet Security program instead.
I would think going to the control panel and selecting the uninstall option should do the trick. I always suspect the easy way is not always the right way
Please HELP!!!

Jrfromnv, welcome to the forum.
You can use the Uninstall or change programs in the Control Panel.  However, here is a program that I used for years that does a more complete job.  It removes all of the program from the hard drive and all remnants from the Registry, as well.  I use the Advanced option.  I suggest using the Custom install so you can check to see if the installer is installing programs that you don't want on your computer.

  • How long does it take for Verizon Internet Security Suite Powered by McAfee to download?

It's taking a long time for the software to download! I'm wondering how long did it take to download for your computer. The Verizon Servicepoint is still on the same thing saying, "Please wait while the page is loaded." But I've waited a long time now and it hasn't changed. Should I keep on waiting or contact Verizon?

It shouldn't take that long. I posted here with a mcafee per install clean up tool. So try that before calling verizon.

I personally and imo others have had problems trying to do it from firefox or chrome, so for the sake of argument try installing it while using either the in home agent (recommended and easy) or by logging into your account at www.myverizon.com and going to the broadband essentials and extra's section (under your bill a banner ad, and under the banner ad account tools. in that section is a link for manage broadband essentials and extra's)
this might be very helpful for you and is in the verizon mcafee knowledge base.

the part that looks most helpful is the end
Download and run the PreInstall Tool:
Click the following link and save the file to your desktop: http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/McPreInstall.exe.
    Double-click the McPreInstall.exe.
Click Start button inside the Preinstall Tool.
Read the warning message and click OK to agree to the changes.
After the Preinstall Tool completes, click OK.
Click Close and restart your computer.
then after you restart your PC - THEN try to install the Verizon Internet security.   apparently this preinstall tool cleans up common problems before you try your installation and is supposed to work real well.
remember you can either download the mcafee security using the in home agent (recommended and easy)
or by logging into your account at www.myverizon.com and going to the broadband essentials and extra's section (under your bill a banner ad, and under the banner ad account tools. in that section is a link for manage broadband essentials and extra's)

    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. Most applications create preference files which are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. If you want you can located them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item. Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab. Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.
There are also several shareware utilities that can uninstall applications:
    AppZapper
    CleanApp
    Yank
    SuperPop
    Uninstaller
    Spring Cleaning
Look for them at www.versiontracker.com or www.mackupdate.com.

  • How to delete a computer from Verizon Internet Security Suite

I need to delete a computer from my internet security suite so that I can use it on my new one. The web site continues to insist that I have three computers already using the security suite. But  one computer has died, and I have replaced it with a new computer. I've called Verizon and gotten nowhere. Everytime I try to activate the suite on my new computer it says I need to buy a new license. I want to get rid of the old computer in the system but haven't figured out how. When I call them they have me uninstall and reinstall the software on my new computer, which does nothing.

look what you named the other computer and just use that same name on your new one. VISS looks at the names or numbers of your computer name. Say you named the old computer mary's, name the new one that name and that should do it. If you can go to computer on the old one and right click on "computer" and click on properties and there is what the name of your old computer is.

  • How do I get rid of Norton Internet Security?  Migration assistant problem

I have a new MacBook Pro and I used a firewire connection and migration assistant to transfer files. Unfortunately, the assistant transferred all my applications, even the ones I didn't want, like Norton Internet Security, which slowed down my old G4. I deleted all the Norton files, but there are still icons for Norton Auto protect and Norton Quick Menu on my System Preferences menu. I'm afraid they are responsible for the messages I get on booting up saying the system detects Norton but can't open the application. I'm also afraid its the reason that suddenly my new superfast MacPro is less fast. I can't figure out how to delete it from the system preferences - any ideas?

Please let me reassure you. There are NO viruses effecting OSX to date. There was one virus effected OS9 ten years ago, but nothing since. The fear of viruses is a residual effect from using that other OS, which shall remain nameless, but not shameless. The only danger a Mac user faces is, spreading a virus through a network by forwarding junk emails with an infected attachment, not that anybody is that stupid, or are they? If you are using one of the main email providers, Yahoo, Hotmail, Gmail, etc, all he attachments are scanned automatically as these organizations cannot afford to have viruses in their systems.
In a nutshell: Relax and enjoy the freedom of using a Mac.
Furthermore: Most ex-users of the nameless OS feel the need to run defrag programs on Macs. Unnecessary! Just leave your Mac turned on overnight and it will do it itself.
You may remember the Mac slogan, 'Think Differently'. Well, Macs do!
    Enjoy your clean install.

  • Can someone please direct me how to properly uninstall and reinstall???

I had a previous post as well but I just want a fresh start on uninstalling and reinstalling. When I followed the steps and then opened itunes it had my previous library there even after I deleted the itunes folder from program files.
I've had Itunes forever now and it's been fine. With this last upgrade, it's created some problems. Half of my new playlists created have disappeared. The music is still there in the library, just the playlists are gone which was enough to fill a 60 gb ipod. Itunes now reads at the bottom I have 1022 GB of music - my hard drive is 250gb so that's obviously incorrect. My iphone will not recognize my calendar or my contacts in Office 2003 with all updates - so basically it's hosed. Someone had given me a link to uninstall it which I did. I restarted. Then I uninstalled apple mobile something or other and restarted. Then I deleted the itunes folder from program files emptied recycle bin and then restarted. I then proceeded to re-download and install itunes. I went through the hour process of uninstall and restart then install. I get everything finished and open itunes expecting to see a fresh clean slate and it's exactly the same. What did I do wrong since I followed these instructions at the bottom for uninstalling http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305845
I need help. I figure at this point I'll take my losses with my playlists I have spent years building just to have everything working again. I appreciate any help you can give.

Connect to any computer that has iTunes loaded.  The following will work for everything EXCEPT music that was obtained from some place other than the iTunes Music Store.  If that is your situation, post back before you proceed.
Restore, if iTunes will let you.  Everything except the password will be restored.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  Be forewarned that it takes a long time.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.
If things go wrong and you lose your apps, music, movies, etc. this is "Plan B."

  • How to properly uninstall Classic?

I searched & came up w/ a couple threads that say to just drag the OS9 System folder to the trash & reboot, but when I try to do this I get an error message saying it's not possible because it's "required by the system". Also, ppl were saying to CMD+click & drag the Classic icon off the menu bar, but I don't see it anywhere to begin w/...... This whole process seems really sketchy, is there a more legit way to do this? There's no actual "uninstall"? I just needed to run one OS9 program for a short amount of time on my G5 & don't anymore so i'd like to get rid of it & free up some space...

Open the Classic preference pane in System Preferences and be sure you have Classic turned off.
Open the System Folder and drag the Finder and System file to the Trash. Restart the computer. After the restart drag the System Folder folder, Applications (Mac OS 9) folder, and Documentation folder to the Trash. Empty the Trash.

  • How to properly uninstall SCVMM

    Hi Folks,
I am trying to install SCVMM 2012 R2 on a machine that previously had an earlier version of SCVMM installed (removed using Add/Remove programs).  However the installer is failing with error Note: 1: 1729  Product: Microsoft Web Deploy 3.5 -- Configuration
    Failed.
There is also, "Determined that existing product (either this product or the product being upgraded with a patch) is installed per machine"  in the log file.
Does anyone know what registry settings need to be removed in order to fully clean out the old install?
    Regards
    Andy

You should first remove old SCVMM from SCOM. Then unistall VMM agents from every node in yoyr infrastructure.
And only after that you can uninstall VMM from server and drop DB from SQL Server.
When I updated  from SCVMM 2012 SP1 to R2, I did it simply:
I created new server, install VMM and took my Hyper-V clusters from old VMM. Then I uninstall VMM from old server and destroyed it.
    Hope it helps.

  • How to properly uninstall?

Hello there. I was used to win xp where there was a unistall button for almost every program you downloaded but seems like mac doesn't have that. I need to get rid of a couple programs from my computer and would like to know the best way to uninstall them so no files from the program remain.
Is it as simple as drag and drop to the recycle bid?
    Thx.

  • I keep getting the "Upgrade to Verizon Internet Security Suite powered by McAfee" popup

Pretty much that. You know the one. it says "upgrade now" to the Verizon Internet Security Suite powered by McAfee, and starts the installation automatically after 2 minutes. I KEEP getting it. Even though i already HAVE upgraded. I even tried reinstalling it, but I still get the pop up. Its properly installed, works fine, so why do I still get the popup?
Help would be appreciated. I keep getting it like every 15 minutes or so.

    Hi,
What Operating system and service pack do you have.
Have you uninstalled the Radialpoint Verizon Internet Security from your PC (radialpoint is old version click here for removal tool)
Visit www.verizon.com/securityupdate, sign in, and click on “Upgrade Now”
That 2 and 3rd bullet point are probably the most important, make sure the old one is fully uninstalled, run that software, and restart the PC.  if the pop up notification persists, then try the 3rd bullet point and let us know how it goes.
Also they have Radialpoint Parental Control software too.  So if you still have that installed - then the pop up might not like that software.  You should uninstall Parental Control and install Verizon Family Protection Powered by McAfee from the Free Tools page (www.verizon.com/freetools/).
