How to protect Macbook pro retina battery?

Hello guys,
I would like if someone could help me and give me tips for protecting the battery life for macbook pro retina, as I work for long hours on my macbook for about 8 hours so i keep it plugged on and from what I heared that it affects the macbook battery life. What is the good things to do in order to keep the battery live longer.

Keep it plugged in whenever possible.
If you keep it plugged in all the time, make sure that at least twice a month run it on
battery until the battery charge level drops to about 50 to 40%.
Do not let the battery charge run down to 0%.
That will affect battery health negatively.

  • Macbook pro retina battery won't charge fully

    Hello,
Im not sure why but my 1 year old macbook pro retina 15inch won't fully charge. It gets to a charge between 75% and 88% and it will at that point stop charging.
I have attached an image below that shows how the battery has stopped charging. I have taken very good care of this laptop and am very surprised to see such an issue.
    Thanks,
    FF

    Have you tried resetting SMC?

  • My Macbook pro retina battery is not working

    Hello everybody,
I kinda need help, maybe somebody here can give me an advice. I kinda destroyed my Macbook pro retina with coffé My father spilled the coffé on the table and the coffé went exactly inside the laptop. It didnt work but after complete and careful cleaning it works. (except the battery) Battery is not working at all, but interesting is, that I still can see the percentage of charge of the batery.
In the authorised czech service they told me that they need to replace the whole battery (with the skelet of the laptop) so it is very expensive. But I believe that there is maybe some other way? Anybody can help me?
    Thank you very much
    Jakub

I forgot... The percentage of the charge of the battery is moving now it is 9% but before it was more... 10%,11% etc...

  • Late 2013 macbook pro retina battery question

I just bought the new macbook pro retina 2013 (first macbook!) I wanted to know what I can do to extend the life of the battery. Right know, I start charging the battery once it gets to about 60%. I keep the charger plugged in when im at home and left the battery discharge at uni. Would doing this having any advatange or disadvantage for the battery?
Also once the battery reaches 100%, would it overcharge if it is kept plugged in? or would it just start to use the power from the adapter instead of the battery
    Anyother tips?
    Thanks

Look at these links.  They will provide you with all the information you need regarding MBP

  • Macbook Pro Retina battery not charging

Hello, when I loaded up my Macbook pro Retina today (4 months old) I noticed the battery wasn't charging and the power logo says power source: adaptor, I have tried SMC reset but that hasn't fixed the problem, need some advice as to what to do now?
    Thanks
    Ben

What % is the battery at?  If it's at 95% and above, it won't charge.  It must get lower to charge.  If it was lower than that and it won't charge no matter what, you'll need to contact AppleCare because you can't service that laptop yourself for this issue if it is a bad battery.

  • How reliable is macbook pro retina

I'm thinking of buying a macbook pro retina. I want to know if anyone has had any particular problems with the pro retina, or whether people have had generally good experiences. Thank you.

This is the wrong place to ask. Everyone is here because they have problems. No one is here because they haven't had a problem. All you find here is a severely biased sample. Any result you get here is unreliable.

There are a few different Locks for the Retina Macbook Pro. I had this same problem, however- i had found this and hopefully it will answer your question.
MacLocks Lock and Security Case Bundle. This is a Lock which is basically part of the case for your Macbook. It adds an extra 0.7lbs.

  • Late 2013 13" Macbook Pro Retina Battery Issues

Just got my new MacBook Pro 2 days ago and been using it for web surfing (Safari), few coding projects, skyping and listening to music mainly. Somehow the battery lasts for about 6 hours at it's best and not only that but the battery estimate is not correct at all. I charged it to 84% and it said 12 hours left then at 70% after exactly 54 minutes of battery usage it said 5 hours and 50 minutes left.
The time estimate drops fast and doesn't last that long ... I've seen similar discussions but there problems were because of Chrome or the kernel_task using the memory & CPU extensivley. But in my case, I'm not using Chrome and the kernel_task is taking around 500 - 600 of memory and fair usage of the CPU ..

Hi. I have a same problem with my new MBP 13 RETINA (late2013)
Battery life is BAD! I'm using it without Skype for 2 days, but still, just a web browsing can't kill charge so fast.
How bad is bad? How long is your battery lasting?
What does your Activity Monitor show under the Energy & CPU tabs? There does seem to be an intermittant issue in Mavericks where after coming out of sleep, the kernel_task process will start using ~100% of a CPU forever. This will drain the battery really quickly, and seems to require a reboot to fix. I run iStat menus, and it's pretty obvious in the CPU graph menu when this happens, as the graph shows a constant 25% overall CPU utilization.
When you say you are just web browsing, what are you doing? What browser, and what kind of websites?
A lot of folks on the MacRumors forums are reporting really bad battery life if they use Opera. Try Safari instead.
If you are watching Flash based videos or otherwise visiting Flash heavy websites, that will hurt battery as well. If you can import the videos you want to watch into iTunes they should use much less battery. If you are using Safari and the Flash stuff on the websites is ads or other stuff you don't need to see, install Click 2 Flash to stop it from automatically loading.
Finally, try to keep your screen brightness as low as is comfortable. Half brightness or lower can help.
I get a consistant 10+ hours of battery life using my Late 2013 system all day for browsing with Safari, editing photos with iPhoto & Preview, and creating documents with Pages. I have BlueTooth disabled, and brightness at 1/2 or less.
You can get the statistics on your battery to see if something seems wrong by installing and running the Coconut Battery utility. I'm willing to bet your issue is software and usage related though.

  • Macbook pro retina battery problems

so basically my macbook pro is only lasting 2 hours on battery, its supposed to last up to 7.  I only light work that dosent work the macbooks battery too hard, i use low brightness, and i dont have crazy stuff installed i keep it clean. I called apple and they told me that 2 hours is not normal, that i should be getting 7 hours max wit what i do, especially the retina macbook pro since it has an avanced battery and hardware.
they remotely accessed my macbook and said that the battery issue and heat issue is software related, and they said my macbook software issues was virus related. they told me that i would need to pay them the support package so they can run their software remotely to my mac to fix the virus related issue.
so my question is, is this really possible, for battery and heat issues to be affected by software and virus, or is it just an excuse so they can get my money.
even if it is true, cant i just fix it by reinstalling a new copy of osx to my macbook pro and the virus will be deleted. or isnt there a software that can delete this specific virus for me? what options can i take?

You're missing my point. I know that watching movies is more intensive than web browsing and maybe the problem is to do with VLC.
When I watch a movie through quick time I still have an estimated 6h26m remaining with 65% battery left. In comparison when I watch a movie on VLC it showed around 3h left with the same amount of battery left.
Also, I'm not sure if this is to do with VLC or if it was a coincidence, but my CPU was at around 30% (system) and the temperature doubled.

  • MacBook Pro Retina battery?

Hey guys, I just got a MacBook Pro 13" with Retina Display and the battery life seems quite mediocre compared to what it's promised to have.
I get about 3:00 when editing lightly using Aperture which I know isn't the most simple application. I'm just worried cause Apple promises 7 hours, I know that is web surfing but (correct me if I'm wrong) I don't think that Aperture would be using double the power. My brightness is at 50%, backlit keyboard off aswell as bluetooth.
This is also my battery stats.

I keep my MBP plugged into mains about 90% of the time - and on battery about 10%. I seldom let it run down below a 30% charge and my battery is still at 98% battery health after 8 months.
Just be certain that you do run on battery occasionally, if you're plugged into mains the majority of the time. At least twice a month, let your battery drain down to 10-40% and then plug your computer back in. This will keep the ions moving and give you a healthy battery for years to come.

  • MacBook Pro Retina Battery Time Left

On my old MacBook Pro, next to the battery icon in parenthesis it was tell me how much time is left in the battery. With the new MBPR, however, I can only get percentage left. Yes, I know if I click on the battery, it tells me the time, but does anyone know where I turned that feature on?

  • MacBook Pro Retina - Battery Runtime not showing

    Hi,
just got my brand new Retina MacBook pro and I LOVE IT. Only weired thing: the battery menu in the menu bar won't allow me to select the left runtime - it will only allow me to show the left percentage. This doesn't seem normal, any solutions?

It's normal.  Read the threads in the  "More Like This" column.  Or call Apple Care.  You're still under warranty.

  • 2012 Macbook Pro Retina battery loses charge quickly.

Any guesses or fixes? I do not abuse it in any way. Randomly in the last three days the battery has had about half the power it normally does. All I'm currently running on it are Firefox and iTunes, everything else is and has been closed since I noticed the problem.

    Hello JLaT,
I definitely understand your concern with your battery on your MacBook Pro.  I found a couple of resources that I think might help with this.
The first thing I recommend is resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) when the battery does not appear to be charging properly.:
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
