Be aware before Unstuffing any unknown files.
Change the IChat > Preferences > Message section option to Confirm before sending any Files to ON This may not stop the code from getting your computer to send the file without you seeing but it may help based on the way the code is described as being put together generally.

  • HT4587 I downloaded Airport Express Utility 5.6 to get my Airport Express to work with the latest Mac OSX 10.7.4, but when I install and run it, it still says my Airport Express is out-of-date and needs the 5.6 utility.

I downloaded and installed Airport Express Utility 5.6 to get my old Airport Express to work with the latest Mac OSX 10.7.4, but when I install and run it, it still says my Airport Express is out-of-date and needs the 5.6 utility. What's up?

It is likely that you downloaded AirPort Utility 5.6.1.  If you checked the requirements, this only runs on Leopard or Snow Leopard Macs.
You have Lion, so you need AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion

  • What is the latest MAC OSX that my Macbook 2,1 can support?

What is the latest MAC OSX that my Macbook 2,1 can support?  It came with 10.4.11Lion.
I am upgrading my harddrive and would love to install the most current OS that I possibly can.
I also have a Macbook 3,1 with OSX 10.5.8 Leopard that I want to do the same with.  If they can both run the same OSX that would be helpful too.
    Thanks a MILLION!

Both of those MacBooks can run up to 10.7 Lion. (10.4.11 is Tiger) It's the RAM that you'll need to upgrade.
First you'll need to upgrade to 10.6 Snow Leopard.  The 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD is in the Apple online store. You can get it for $19.99. After you’ve installed that then download the 10.6.8 combo updater to finish it off. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399 You will need to be running 10.6.8 to access the App Store to order Lion, http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    System Requirements for 10.6:
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible internet service provider: fees may apply.
You can put two 2gb RAM sticks in your model 2,1 but it can only use 3,3gb. This is a hardware limitation and cannot be changed.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3_GB_barrier
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/faq/macbook-pro-core-2-duo-3-g b-memory-limitation-details.html
OWC tests have found that there is a slight speed increase with having two 2gb sticks in rather than one 1gb and one 2gb. Your model is in the gray lines at the bottom of the graph. http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/Memory_Benchmark/Apple_MacBook/
You can upgrade from 10.4 straight to 10.6 with no problems as long as you have at least 1gb of RAM. Any program that runs under 10.4 should run under10.6. See this list for third party programs compatibility with 10.6: http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/  You might have to upgrade some drivers for printers, etc.... And you will have to install Rosetta if you have any Power PC applications
    http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/snow_leopard_installing_rosetta/
I recently upgraded an older MacBook (Early 2006 model 1,1) straight from 10.4 to 10.6.
Once you are at 10.6.8 Lion is still available from Apple. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. to purchase it. Then within 3 days you will get an email with a code which you can use to download Lion from the App Store. Or go to http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion and purchase it there. The price is $19.99.
You must have at least a Late 2006 model 2,1 MacBook.
Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly.
As for third party programs see this list for compatibility with 10.7 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Also Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

  • What is the latest mac osx for my macbook

i'm using an old macbook from 2007 can you help me

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu and check the processor.
If it's a Core Duo Mac, click here, install the DVD, and run Software Update.
If it's a Core 2 Duo or better Mac, follow the Core Duo instructions, open the Mac App Store, and try purchasing Mountain Lion. If you get told it's incompatible, phone the online Apple Store and order a download code for Lion.

    Part 2
Thanks for the feedback Skhorchid.  Glad it worked for you too.
A bit later I discovered that Photo Stream was not working on my Windows 7 PC either.  If I opened the iCloud control panel and put a check in the box to turn on Photo Stream, and then closed and reopened the control panel, the check mark was gone again.  Also, nothing happened when I clicked on the options button beside the Photo Stream check box.  I already had version 2 of the iCloud control panel so I could not upgrade further.
I ended up uninstalling the iCloud control panel, rebooting, downloading a fresh copy from Apple, and reinstalling it.  This worked and I now have photo stream working on my Windows 7 system as well.

  • I am going to purchase the latest Mac Book Pro. How do I transfer data from my very old Macbook running OS 10.4?

I am going to purchase the latest Mac Book Pro. How do I transfer data from my very old Macbook running OS 10.4?

You may want to use the Migration Assistant, which appears the first time you start up the new machine during setup, and also is available later (it is found in /Applications/Utilities.) Note that if you are running 10.4.x on the old MacBook both machines need to use FireWire to do this, but the late 2006 MacBook has that. You will need a special 4 pin to 6 pin FireWire adapter cable, as the FireWire ports on the newest MacBook Pros are different.

  • I inadvertently deleted and emptied the trash bin on Firefox. I have a MAC OSX-VERSION 10.4.11. How can I re-install the latest version of Firefox that is COMPUTER FRIENDLY for the MAC OSX Version 10.4.11? I appreciate any help.

I inadvertently deleted Firefox and emptied the trash bin. I believe it was version 3.5. I have a MAC OSX 10.4.11. After several futile attemps how can I re-install the latest version of Firefox compatible to my MAC system? Thanks!

As of Firefox 4.0 and newer the Firefox builds from Mozilla requires both Mac OSX 10.'''5'''+ and a Intel.
Either you can use 3.6.19 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Though for you 3.6.18 will be safe also as 3.6.19 was to workaround a font crashing issue on 10.7 Lion that was not fixed in time on Lion before release. http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/3.6.18/mac/ and pick your language and download the Firefox 3.6.18.dmg

  • How can i download imovie '11 if i dont have the latest mac software

how can i download imovie '11 if i dont have the latest mac software
and should i download the next version of mac software or does it slow the computer down
    thanks

The easiest way is to install Mountain Lion, and then you can download iMovie 11. If your Mac is supported by Mountain Lion, performance should be fine.
The other way would be to try to find a retail boxed copy of iLife 11 from eBay or Amazon. You can then install iMovie 11 up to version 9.04. But that is it, you cannot get 9.07 without at least installing Lion.

  • Will a external Apple iSight work with the latest Mac Mini?

with a firewire 400-800 if it will what software do i need to take pictures and videos.
    Many Thanks

Will a external apple isight work with the latest mac mini.
Yes (if the external iSight works.)
External iSights are great webcams, but they are getting old (as consumer electronics go) and some have had pretty rough treatment. You can test yours using the suggestions from this page:
      http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/EZJim/EZJimpage4.html
I suggest you disconnect other Firewire devices until you get your external iSight working with your mini.
If you do not already have an external iSight and are considering buying one now,
a new webcam (with warranty) may be a better choice.
Many available alternatives are listed here: http://www.mac-compatible-web-cam.com/

Use one of the following ways to connect your FW400 external iSight to a FW800 Mac port:
    • To use the FW400 6pin-6pin cable that comes with iSight, you can use a 6pin-9pin adapter
      like one of these:
      http://tinyurl.com/ydsbb6m  (I use this one.)
      http://tinyurl.com/cgll7o
      http://www.sonnettech.com/product/fw_adapter.html
    • This Firewire 400-800 cable can work:
      http://store.apple.com/us/product/TP320LL/A (I use this one.)
    • Some report that this low-priced alternative cable works:
      http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812189097
I suggest you disconnect other Firewire devices until you get external iSight working with your mini. Once iSight works when it is the only FW connected device, you can try connecting other Firewire devices to determine whehter you can use any of them without conflict.
... if it will what software do i need to take pictures and videos.
With your 10.6.3 mini, you can use QuickTime X, iChat, Photo Booth, iMovie, and some of the other apps that are installed with OS X. Your Mac's Help for each of these apps can tell you how to use them with iSight (or other connected cameras.)
Some more apps you can use are shown in this list:
      http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/EZJim/EZJimpage7.html
The web links for each app gives details on what functions is offers with your webcam.
    Many Thanks
    You're welcome.

What won't open? Photoshop, or the photos that you "stored in iPhoto"?

  • I recently updated to the latest Mac OS, and have lost the capacity to create PDFs from my HP scanner.  Any suggestions?

I recently updated to the latest Mac OS, and in the process I seem to have lost the capacity to create PDFs from my HP scanner.
With each prior OS, I could scan and immediately save any scanned file in PDF format.  Now it is not allowed, and creates a file
that has nothing but noise, even though the scan software seems to show that each scan is captured correctly (in the scan window,
before I ask it to save the file).  When trying to save to PDF,  I get a message that tells me that this is a read-only file, which I don't
quite understand, since the same scanning / saving process always created a PDF in the past.
    iMac 27 inch----HP Officejet 7310
    Any suggestions?

Thanks very much for the response.  I checked for new HP software, and learned there is no new version.  I also noted when reading about the new OS 10.9 that all driver software is now part of the MAC OS and no longer supplied by the vendor of the printer / scanner.  I suspected this is where the trouble is located.....but I did not know how to ascertain what could be done to restore my PDF creation capabilities.   The next message below yours had the solution, so all is well now.  Now you know as well-----Many thanks again for taking the time to respond!!

  • How do I upgrade to the latest version of fcpx?

You upgrade using the Mac App Store. Just log in with the same Apple ID with which you bought the application, and click on "Updates".

If you have older versions of excel and word that previously ran under the Rosetta emulator (allows PowerPC code to run on Intel system), they will no longer work with Lion.
You can use the Apple programs Pages and Numbers to access the files. They can be bought and downloaded from the App store. NeoOffice is available at http://www.neooffice.org/neojava/en/index.php which has Lion support. OpenOffice doesn't talk to Lion support, it's at http://www.openoffice.org/
