How to Publish to a personal domain AND .Mac?

I had a working iWeb site published to web.mac and it working fine. I added a new site in iWeb08 and set up a personal domain. When I selected the new site and published, BOTH my old site and the new one published to my personal domain. How do I tell iWeb08 to publish one site to a personal domain and another site to .Mac (.Me)?

This post is a little confusing. Do you have two sites hosted at MMe or not?
Do you mean that you used to host your business site and MMe and have now switched to uploading directly to your web host using ftp? If you have, then you can of course delete this site from your iDisk/MMe account, because if you have uploaded directly, then MMe has nothing to do with your domain name any more.
If you have not done this and you are hosting both your sites on your MMe account via either CNAME or web forwarding, then no, you can't delete that site because if you do, there is nowhere to forward to.
Password protection will not affect any other sites that you have. Just go into iWeb and set this up and then re-publish and it will just affect that site that you set it up for. Nothing else.

  • Publishing to a personal domain on .Mac with iWeb08 feature?

I was wondering if anyone could answer a simple question for me. I have a a website I created on iWeb08 and I publish to .Mac. I also have my own domain registered at GoDaddy.com that we call www.mydomainexample.com for ease.
Is there a difference between having GoDaddy forward to my domain name with masking versus having using the iWeb08 feature to publish to a personal domain on .Mac?
Currently if my friends go to www.mydomainexample.com they get my website and no matter where they browse on the site the URL stays www.mydomainexample.com. Is that the same that would happen with publishing to a personal domain on .Mac through iWeb08? Or would it say (again as an example) www.mydomainexample.com/welcome or ..../album or .../blog etc?
    Thanks

So basically publishing to a personal domain on .Mac would remove the portion of the URL that says it is a .Mac account?
    So instead of:
    http://web.mac.com/macidname/sitename/Welcome.html
If I published to a personal domain on .Mac it would read this:
    http://www.mydomainexample.com/sitename/Welcome.html
So it would at least give me a little privacy and get rid of my .Mac ID in the URL I guess.
The way I have it now with forwarding and masking every page just comes up as:
    http://www.mydomainexample.com
which is fine but does not allow someone to go to one of the individual pages directly, only the main page I guess
A side question would be then that I thought I heard that if you maintain 2 sites you can't publish to 2 personal domains on .Mac correct? Only one? If that is true can I publish one site to a personal domain and then leave the other forwarded and masked through my domain manager the way I have it already?
    Thanks again

  • How do you post multiple personal domains to .Mac sub accounts?

I was assured by .Mac tech support that .Mac will host a different personal domain on each of five accounts of a family pak. Now I discover that iWeb is a one-trick pony. I'm stunned that I can't create separate sites and upload them individually. I've never heard of an application that can only create one document!
And I can't even find the data for that ONE document; ~/Library/Application/Domain.sites2 is only 20kb no matter how many photos you've added to the site.
So I guess I have two questions: How do you post multiple domains to sub accounts?
    And, where's my data?

The tilde (~/Library/etc.) indicates home folder; that is where I was looking. I did a Spotlite search and discovered that in attempting to backup my data, I'd moved it; Spotlite found it and it was all intact.
Then I discovered I could duplicate Domain.sites2, change the names to Domain de.sites2, and Domain daru.sites2, open daru's site and delete de's, then open de's and delete daru's, and I had two separate sites that I presume I'll be able to upload separately. Once I get .Mac sub groups created...
Seems like a stupid bit of programming; must have hired some windows guys to code it...
Problem I'm having now is, .Mac won't let me set up a sub account in my wife's name because she already has a .Mac ID and a trial account because she joined a .Mac group. Awaiting a reply rom .Mac tech support.
So my question isn't quite answered yet, but it does look like I can post several sites without having to set up separate user accounts. Seems like this could be explained in the help file in plain English...

  • How to publish in my own domain and in a latin language?

Hi, I have 2 questions that are related.
I created a iWeb project in Portuguese and was able to publish it to MobileMe without any issues. But this MobileMe account it a trial one that I'm not wiling to keep for some reasons, but specially because of the price. It is too much for the space and bandwidth they offer.
With the help of this Forum I could find a way to run iWeb in Portuguese (unfortunately is is not Brazilian Portuguese) and also a way to publish it to a non MobileMe hosting service using Easy iWeb Publisher 4.0 (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/21666). But for some reason I always get an error message from browser:
    Directory Listing Denied
This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed.
I guess the problem is related to the Portuguese language because when I create the pages the html file names are created with latin symbols and accents. Maybe the server I'm uploading the files to don't support these kind of characters.
So, my question is: is there a way to make a Portuguese language iWeb project work fine on a non MobileMe server? Maybe if I can find a way to make iWeb generate the html files without the Portuguese language characters it could work.
    Thanks a lot.

    Hello all
I've the same problem with a French web site with accent in page names.
This advise works also fine with Transmit software from panic Software, UTF8 encoding is right.
    Thanks

  • How to Publish Multiple Websites Using Domain Masking

Let's say I have a mobileme acct called applesoranges, but then I decided not to use this name for my website. Using iweb, I have created a different website called blueberry.com, and was able to figure out how to set up my personal domain and then mask appleoranges so that only blueberry.co, appears.
I now want to add another website called strawberry.com. With one mobileme acct (applesoranges), is it possible to host 2 separate websites, each of which is masking the original mobileme acct? How does one set up 2 separate websites using iweb (each masking the original acct name)?
    Many thanks!

For every MobileMe account you can only use the personal domain name option and CNAME only once. You enter your first domain name into your MMe account and then go and set up CNAME forwarding at your domain registrar to forward to web.me.com. For any other sites that you create, you need to go to web forwarding. You set-up the other domain names by using masked web forwarding and point them to web.me.com/username/sitename and by masking these will just show your domain name address and not your MobileMe/iWeb url.
Make sure that you separate out your sites, as it will be easier. You can either duplicate the domain.sites files and have one site per a domain file or use a program called iWebSites to help you manage multiple sites.
You also have the option of not using MMe and you can publish to a folder instead and upload directly to each domain hosting space. This gets away from the problem of how to forward sites to iWeb/MMe.

  • Personal Domain and GoDaddy How To

I saw the threads and think everyone is doing it the hard way. I too am with godaddy but godaddy uses a third party registrar. I don't remember the details on how i found the phone number, but somewhere on godaddy it tells you. Actually I think I just called godaddy and asked for registrar's phone number. Call the registrar and simply ask them to change CName to "web.mac.com". The guy said that he thought this wouldn't work but I said just do it because that's what Apple says to do. So he did and the next day it worked. (as it takes a day to go into effect) Piece of cake!

    See if this helps ...
    Greetings,
Along with the numerous complaints about the reliability of iWeb '08, many of us have also had trouble setting up .Mac to host our " personal domains". Godaddy has always made it easy to redirect sites to .Mac addresses and "mask" those sites. However ... some of the directions for using "unmasked" URL's on .Mac have been a bit confusing. After following many tips found in the Discussion Boards here I too had no success. I wrote GoDaddy and they quickly responded to my e-mail with the following simple reply which required only one change in ONE FIELD after setting up your personal domain with .Mac.
I've copied the steps sent by GoDaddy to find the field below (for those of us who are not so web savvy and have no idea what CNAMES, DNS, or XM RECORDS are or mean).
    1. Log in to your Account Manager.
    2. From the Domain Names menu, select Manage Domains. The Domain Control Center opens.
    3. In your list of domain names, click on the domain name that you want to view. The Details for the selected domain display.
    4. Under the Total DNS Control section, click Manage Subdomains or Total DNS Control and MX Records. (Middle Column under NAME SERVERS)
    5. Click the edit button next to the www CNAME
    6. Follow the on screen directions from here to the change the points to host.
(You'll want to enter in the section for CNAMES ... the first line "WWW" ... Points to "@" ... change the "@" to "web.mac.com")
It took only seconds after making this change for my iWeb site to redirect to my personal domain at .Mac and for all my URL's to read properly.
    Best of luck!

  • Personal Domain and MobileMe

Once I changed my settings to my Personal Domain, I could no longer post my second MobileMe site. Can I use a Personal Domain and have more than one MobileMe site?

This is incorrect. You can only use the personal domain name option with CNAME forwarding ONCE for every MobileMe account. If you want other sites, then you can publish as many as you want and they will have the url http://web.me.com/username/sitename. If you want to use domain names with these sites, then you can, but you have to use ordinary masked or unmasked web forwarding so that your domain is forwarded to web.me.com/username/sitename.
Also, why do you persist in placing links that don't work? Try clicking on your WordPress link and it comes up every time with server not found.

How to block user create personal view and select ALL VIEW?

    Hello,
    >create personal view
To restrict creating personal view, you need to modify your existing permission level or create new one. Login with admin account to your site and open role.aspx page (http://siteurl/_layouts/role.aspx). Then click on existing permission or add new permission
level-->and move to "Personal Permissions" section-->uncheck "Manage Personal Views - Create, change, and delete personal views of lists" option. Later you can assign this permission to all users, whom you don't want
    to allow to create.
    >and select ALL VIEW
Since SP does not supports view level permission directly so you have to use custom solution or use below designer solution to restrict user to open any view.

  • Problems switching from personal domain to .mac

I'm wanting to move a site from my personal domain to .mac. However, when I attempt to publish the site it automatically attempts to publish to my personal domain. How can I change the settings to publish to .mac?
I attempted to solve this problem by creating a "new" site, but it still tries to publish to the personal domain rather than .mac.

I've done it. I just copied my data to the Mac and also copied the library files:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93732
This preserved all my ratings and playlists, etc.
I think there was a little bit of magic to get iTunes to find where all the music was now stored. It wasn't that difficult though. Plus only do this before you delete all your stuff on the Windows machine.

  • Problems uploading published file to personal domain

I shared an event from iPhoto to iWeb, creating a photo-page for my event. It all looks good in iWeb. I then publish it to a folder, and check that folder.
Everything looks great there as well, but when I upload the folder to my personal domain via ftp, my photos can't be seen.
I have checked that all files are uploaded. I have tested both Firefox 2.0.0.11 and Safari 3.1.1, the site is not working in any of the browsers.
The site can be found at http://dropbox.perenstrom.com/lincon2008/gallery/ if anyonw wants to see how it looks.
Grateful for any advice on what to do.

    Wyodor wrote:

That directory is not part of the iWeb gallery, those are the original files I uploaded for people to download them. Directory listing in that directory is handled by a separate .php-file.

Are you totally sure that your image files are on the server in the right place for access from the gallery page? Could you provide the path to one of them?
It seems possible there could also be a problem with the javascripts being recognized. Does your server already have a scripts folder that might cause a conflict?
The filesize for the folder locally and the folder remotely is the same, so yeah. The path to one of the pictures is (my friend Mårten on the picture, say hello): http://dropbox.perenstrom.com/lincon2008/gallery/Site/LinCon2008_files/Media/DSC_5554/DSC5554.jpg
There shouldn't be a conflict, at least I can't figure out where that would be.

    http://dropbox.perenstrom.com/lincon2008/gallery/LinConGallery/Site/LinCon2008files/rss.xml
I think this is due to misconfigure MIME type.
    Contact your host admin people.
Could you please expand and explain what you mean by that? The .xml-file can now be found at http://dropbox.perenstrom.com/lincon2008/gallery/Site/feed.xml - this is the same address as stated in the .html-file; granted it returns an error when read.
The feed-file works locally, so you're probably right when saying that there's something wrong with the server.
This problem seems to only affect the rss-files, and those shouldn't affect the gallery itself, right?
Directory listing has now been disabled.
Since last time I have moved the gallery up one level in the tree, this to make the feeds point to the right files, since this is the only thing I enter when sharing the gallery from iWeb. The gallery is now in the right position; the path I stated when sharing.

  • Personal Domains and Multiple Sites

Hi, I've looked through several pages worth of questions but none of them seems to be exactly like what I want to get done.
First, I have 2 sites in iWeb. The second was created in iWeb '08 just because of the addition of the Personal Domain feature and so for the first time, I want a site that is hosted at Mac.com.
The first site is hosted elsewhere. I always publish to a folder and use an FTP software to upload it.
So, obviously, what I want to do is to use "Publish to .Mac" to upload my 2nd website ONLY to .Mac. But, iWeb seems to want to publish both. Even after I deleted the 1st website manually in iDisk, iWeb will publish a folder with the 1st website's name and throw in some content (like feed.xml, and "Media" and "Scripts" directories).
So, Question 1, can I make iWeb to stop this? Or, will have to create multiple Domain files and manage the 2 sites separately?
The other question is this. I just set up a CNAME thingy with Godaddy.
Let's say my domain is www.hogehoge.com.
I set the CNAME alias to web.mac.com.
In iWeb, I call the 2nd website "hogehoge" (just so I know which site it is). When iWeb publishes that site, everything goes inside
    Web/Sites/hogehoge
And when I access the site at www.hogehoge.com, the index.html in Web/Sites
will redirect me to the index.html (or, since I currently only have the blog file, /blog/blog.html file) inside the hogehoge directory, so the address looks like
    www.hogehoge.com/hogehoge/blog/blog.html
but that *****. I don't want the second "hogehoge". Is there any way to get rid of that?
Hope those questions were clear enough...

I've just started with multiple iWeb sites. While I still need to look at one of these utilities to manage multiple websites independently, I think I already figured out how to publish to multiple .Mac accounts from within my main user. The method below worked for me, although it published my entire set of sites, so yeah, still need to work around that.
Granted, having multiple users on your Mac, each associated with specific .Mac accounts would certainly work, and the cost is $0, but depending on where you keep files you need to access for each web site (like iphoto, itunes, etc), hopping between users could be a bit messy. I suppose you could store everything in the SHARED folder in the User directory, though.
    THE METHOD
Assuming you have a utility to manage multiple iWeb sites (the two popular ones seem to be iWebsite (free) and Multisite (shareware), neither of which I've tried yet), I THINK another way you can publish to a specific .Mac account is simply to go into SYSTEM PREFERENCES, click on the .Mac icon, and then SIGN OUT of your current .Mac account (do this right before you're ready to publish). You are then presented with a dialog to sign in to a different .Mac account ---> enter the access to the one you want to publish to. Now, when you hit 'Publish to .Mac' in iWeb, it defaults to THIS account and publishes it there. You just have to remember to go back into SYSTEM PREFERENCES and log back in to your original .Mac account when you're finished publishing.
The advantage to this, as I see it, is staying in my primary user and having access to all the files I need, as well as being able to switch to other apps and running programs in my primary account without issue.
Again, relatively new to iWeb, and I haven't played too much with this, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong ....

  • Publishing to a personal domain name

The Personal Domain button is missing from my Accounts Settings page. How else can I publish to my own domain?
    -Tino

You have obviously entered your personal domain name into your MMe account at some stage and either set up CNAME forwarding or web forwarding for your domain. All you need to do is delete your domain name from your MMe account and then go to your domain registrar and remove the CNAME settings.
However, whether you do this or not, as Tom said, iWeb will publish to MobileMe whatever and will always publish here to you iDisk, so you can always access your site by going to web.me.com/username/sitename. Remember, that this is why you have to set up forwarding, because when you click on publish in iWeb, it never publishes straight to your domain, always you iDisk/MMe account.

  • Personal domain and regular .Mac site

I would like to create my own personal website (like usual on .Mac in my personal area) and then also post another domain I own to my .Mac area. How does it know which site to "publish" to? Or can you only have one website in iWeb '08?
    Thanks.

If I put in myname.com without the www. it also comes up fine.
This isn't a .Mac problem. You need to go to the place where you have your name and make sure the www CNAME is set to web.mac.com, or forward the short version of your name to the www version.
