How to put apps in list instead of icons, like a table of contents?

I have a bibliographer's mind and like listings, catalogs, not icons. I have searched several times and can't find a way to turn all my icons into an nice alphabetical list. I love iTunes because they organize in a way that makes sense to me. On the computers, for docs, you could make a list with details, or use icons. A few icons are okay, but too many don't work for me. I am surprised there is no app for this,; at least I ahve not found it.i would love this on all my devices.

It seems most people are used to seeing lists on all desktop computers. I almost never see anyone viewing files as icons when doing serious work. I'm stumped as to why this would not be an option for the iphone.

EVen if there is no way to backup, what is the system file for Firefox that stores these, so i can transfer this file or open it in an XML or similar editor to copy them out?

The permissions.sqlite file stores 'allow' and 'block' exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and extensions (software) installation.

How to get only partial text of a paragraph into the table of content?

Hi guys,
currently I'm working on a manuscript based on the publication manual of the American Psychological Association.
Unfortunately, there is some sort of heading that's placed right in front of further text. Here an example:
+This is my heading.+ Now ordinary text formatted differently should follow.
Does anyone here know, how to get the text of the heading (but not the following text) into the table of content? For as far as I know I can't format the heading as a different paragraph than the following text.
By the way, I use pages'08.

thanks for your suggestion, unfortunately I already tried that and it didn't work. I have created several unique styles. Problem is, I need two diferent styles in *one paragraph* - one style for the "heading", which is consistent to the APA manual not an own paragraph (sorry, not my idea...), and another style for the following text. As my example above shows, the heading is followed by usual text and I may not press return after the heading and switch to a new paragraph..
It has to look exactly like this:
+heading in italics.+ Now heading is followed by usual text without changing the paragraph or starting a new line. Blurb blurb blurb whatsoever blurb blurb. The text goes on an on and an on you see.
I can't format the heading differently than the text (because if I try, the whole paragraph is formatted this way) and so I can't add just the heading to the TOC. Do you see what my problem is? Got any other suggestion?

How do I locate the page I am viewing in the Table of Contents?

Is there a way to open the table of contents to the page that I am already viewing?
If I have searched a document, and I am at some random page, how do I find out where I am in the table of contents? For example, in the eclipse help system and IBM's "info centers" there is a button that opens the table of contents to the nearest page to where I am so that I can guage the general intent of the pages I am reading, find related content or quickly assess that this is not what I'm looking for.
I think the TOC is really a collection of "bookmarks" in a PDF file and not a true TOC, but I would assume that if they are sequential there would be a function to open the nearest one. Can someone tell me if that exists?

If you are running Firefox 4 or higher on the "old" computer, then:
(1) Open Help > Troubleshooting Information
(2) Click the "Open Containing Folder" button next to "Profile Directory"
(3) Copy everything to a safe place (please note that the copy of your profile does contain your browsing history and saved passwords, so best not to store in on media that you insert into public PCs)

(To clone your entire setup, after you install Firefox on the new PC, you can close it and replace the contents of the new profile folder with the contents you saved from the old computer. That doesn't always work, though.)

ok, so i just got the new blackberry curve 8530 (sprint) and i was wondering how to use most of my sd card instead of my device memory. i think most of my (11) apps are in my phone and want to transfer them to my sd card. can anybody explain this to me?

How to put apps on a portable hard drive

I want to sync apps to my computer. I want them off my phone for now. I want to put them back on later. If I manually uncheck the apps I want off the phone then sync, where do those apps go? Can I get them back later?
I need them to go on a portable hard drive so I can pick them up from another computer if necessary. I put all my music on a portable hard drive and take it around from computer to computer and it works great. I want to do the same with apps.

So if I choose one computer to put the apps on, then I can take them on and off my phone from that computer only. Is that correct?
Let's say I sync to the computer leaving off a couple of larger apps but I want to put them back on the phone later. Will I be able to do that or does the sync cause the apps to go away entirely and I'd have to buy them again if I wanted them?

I don't understand how to put apps onto my iPod Touch with iTunes 11.1.12

I recently just downloaded the newest iTunes, 11.1.12, and it's my very first time downloading apps. So I plugged my iPod in and went to the app store, downloaded a few apps, and I couldn't find them on my iPod, and I end up finding them in another folder on iTunes, and I tried to select and drag the apps but they refused to move into another folder. So the apps are in the "All" folder and I want to move them to my "iPod Games" folder. It won't let me. Someone please provoide me a step-by-step guide.
(Oh and another question, anyone know how to find the textPlus app? I tried to look for it in the iTunes store but it was nowhere to be seen. Someone mind sharing how they found it if they have the app?)

If you have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears. and Control+B to show the Menu bar
To sync to your iPod go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod.... and follow the instructions.

How to get loops to list hierarchially in browser like before?

I had a nice hierarchial list of my loop folders in the Loop Browser menu list for months, until I screwed it up today.
I had made main folders for my loops which contained subfolders, like this:
Beatnik (in gray lettering)
(indented) Drums
(indented) Percussion
(indented) Synths
and that whole section would be within divider marks, as a group. Then the next category, etc. etc. They were showing up in the browser menu that way, and I loved it. They were located in the root library/audio/Apple loops.
Unfortunately, I moved my stuff around today, and now I lost that nice hierarchial list. When I reindexed everything, now only the main folders, i.e. Beatnik, including the Jam Pack, are listed under the heading called "Other" instead of by itself like it used to be within dividers. My subfolders are not showing up anymore like they used to be.
I remember two things, vaguely: to get rid of stuff showing up in "Other" I had to get the folders out of the ~/...user loops, I think.
I remember there was a little trick I stumbled upon to get this hierarchy, like an extra nested folder, or something. In fact, I added a new folder this morning and had to place it within another folder, or something like that to still get the hierarchy, now I don't remember what but I remember I had to do it twice to get it to work. Without that trick, it didn't work, and unfortunately, I didn't write it down or commit it to memory. But I had a great list.
So, what causes the dividers to appear in the Apple Loop Browser Management list, so that folders will be listed hierarchially like they do in the finder? What is it that makes each section appear within the dividers? and show the hierarchy main folder/subfolder?

Use the "Search Discussions" (upper right of this page) and use "question mark" as the search term. Limit the search to QuickTime.

Question: How to update app with a new version with new SQLite tables?

We're updating an application in the App Store, and haven't yet found good information on how to deal with updates to the SQLite Schema and data that should be transferred between apps.
Anyone successfully done this?
Q1: Does the old DB files stay on the iPhone after update? Does the installer do a "diff" between them? In our case, we just extended tables, rather than changing them, in hope that we can successfully move the data for users gracefully.
Q2: If the installer does in fact wipe all the data and files on the app before install, is there a way to access the data before it updates, so the app can gracefully update the data?

How to make a hierarchical list of file/folders like in the Finder

I have a hard drive that I'm going to use as a safety backup. I've filled it with files and folders and am going to store it off site. I'd like to retain a list of what I've got on there, for reference.
I can make a complete list of what's on there, with UNIX 'ls -R', but it's huge and you can't encapsulate the folders, it just lists everything. I need a document that reproduces the list of files and folders in the same way that the finder does. Is there any program that does that?

I've seen third-party backup utilities that provide that sort of catalogue interface, but I can't name any off hand.
Yep, I even used to have one, way back in OS 7 thru 8.6 on my 8600. I think it was something from Iomega, they used to give you several free tools, and I believe a catalogue maker was one of them. I think it broke with some version of OS 9, and I got a shareware program called DiskTracker. Both did exactly what is wanted: they would catalog any sort of disk, be it drive, removable media (I had a bunch of Syquest EZDrive cartrides), even CDs. You would open the file in the program, and navigate just like in the Finder. Don't remember just how much information was preserved about files.
Try going to VersionTracker, and do a search on disk inventory or catalog software, I'm sure there are still such things around, though I doubt they would be free.
