How to put my DVDs in iTunes

This is embarrassingly basic, but I have no idea how to put my DVDs into iTunes. Any instructions?
Windows   Windows XP

If you are using a Macintosh computer, Macworld magazine had a very nice article on how to do what you would like to do.

Hope this helps.

Sorry, but the Apple Forum Terms of Use don't permit us to discuss ripping commercial DVDs. Try Googling for such information.

If you're talking about a commercial DVD and you're in the U.S. (and a number of other countries), you presume incorrectly. Commercial DVDs are encrypted and breaking that encryption is illegal. For non-encrypted DVDs, use Handbrake.

You don't. And the subject is off topic. Read section 2.8.2 of the ASC terms of use before considering if you need to ask for clarification.

If you have a license for NERO Burning ROM, they have a program called RECODE2 which can convert DVD movies to iPod compatible video. If not there is a free program that works on 99% of DVDs. It is called Videora. You can download it from their website for free
    http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/
This web site has a step by step procedure to convert the DVD. It assumes that you are trying to convert a copy protected Hollywood video, but this will work for your DVD too.
    http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/guides.html
For the 1% of DVDs that Videora has problems with the audio and video get out of sync, but this rarely happens.

  • Reinstalled computer - How to put ipod tunes into itunes library?

Hi sure there is loads answered this but i couldn't see exactly what i needed so apologies if i am repeating but i have a headache ><
My laptop suffered a terrible virus and i had to format my HD. Now everything is reinstalled phew
However, my ipod still has its music on it, i want to put that music back onto my laptop via my itunes library.
I am worried that by using sync i will erase all the ipod music. as 'sync' will sync the ipod to the (Empty)Library.
I need to sync the music on the ipod to the Library, so I will have my original Library from before back!
Hope this makes sense, thanks for any help
    Buffy

You can't sync or drag your non iTMS music back directly from an iPod to iTunes. The transfer of non iTMS content is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

The transfer of purchased content to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7, look under under File>"Transfer Purchases from iPod". A paragraph on it has been added to this article: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
If your iPod is set to update automatically you just need to take care when connecting back to your computer and an empty iTunes. You will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Don't uncheck Sync Music it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting: Managing content manually on iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

How can I get my Led Zeppelin DVD on icloud (my ipad)?

You don't. If your DVD is a commercial DVD, it's most likely encrypted. Breaking that encryption, a necessary first step in copying it, is illegal in the U.S. Therefore, the Terms of Use of this forum prohibits us discussing software or methods for copying a DVD. Sorry.

If your iPod is set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 or later installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that way you can continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • How to import a dvd to itunes

I have a 2.88 GB DVD (in universal disk format) that I burned from a video I shot. I'd like to bring it into (publish) iTunes so I can easily show it and so I can send it to others. When I use the menu and select "Add to library" with the video selected that is in my drive, I get a folder with Video-TS and Audio-TS. If I click "Open" nothing happens. So I'm not sure what to do.

You need to convert the Video-TS file into a MPEG-4 (mp4) file. You don't need the Audio-TS file. If you look in the Audio-TS folder you'll see that it's empty. I would use an APP like Handbrake to convert it.
Heres what I would do and make sure you have permission to do it.
Drag the Video-TS file to do the Desktop. Once downloaded, open the Video-TS file in Handbrake and convert it to MPEG-4 using the H.264 Video Codec.  See the example below. You can set the resolution to fit yor needs.
