How to put q10 to sleep with power/lock button

Hello! Love some help on this seemingly simple problem....
I am new to BlackBerry from iphone and am very happy except I have to wait for the 30 second time out before I put into my pocket... because I can't figure out how to put it to sleep or at least activate the lock screen instantly.
On or off the settings/lockscreen option doesn't seem to do anything. I have not a password lock activated and prefer not too if possible.
I am on the latest os fyi.
Can anyone help??
Thanks ewan

I'll be happy to help you with this.
You can put your Q10 to sleep simply by pressing (and not holding) the power button up top. A quick press will put it to sleep.
I hope that helps you.
- If my response has helped you, please click "Options" beside my post and mark it as solved. Clicking the "thumbs up" icon near the bottom of my response would also be appreciated.

  • Put HDD to sleep with SSD

    Hello,
I have a question for SSD users. I have a late 2008 unibody macbook pro. I just installed effortlessly an OCZ vertex 2 120gb ssd. Love the speed! I read around the internet that you should not check put hdds to sleep under energy saver for ssds. Is this true? My question would be the following:
I also heard that OCZ has some garbage collection algorythm that makes up for Mac's lack of TRIM support. If I put hdds to sleep when possible does it mean that the garbage collection will not work? What is the advantage of NOT putting hdds to sleep with SSD?
Finally, I am planning to install a second hd instead of my superdrive, a normal hd that is (seagate xt 7200). I suppose that having it means I should put the hdds to sleep when possible, am I right?
In case I should not put to sleep the ssd, can I select two different settings for the two different drives?
Sorry if this sounds confusionary, it sounded a lot better in my mind...
    Thanks for any tips!

I also heard that OCZ has some garbage collection algorythm that makes up for Mac's lack of TRIM support.
I dont think garbage collection (and over provisioning) makes up for lack of TRIM support, but certainly helps it in that direction.
If I put hdds to sleep when possible does it mean that the garbage collection will not work? What is the advantage of NOT putting hdds to sleep with SSD?
I think you are asking - "If I put ssds to sleep when possible does it mean that the garbage collection will not work?", since hdds don't have the garbage collection.
Well, from (http://www.ocztechnology.com/aboutocz/news/151) and (http://www.enterprisestorageforum.com/technology/features/article.php/3850436) it seems that, according to OCZ's Chang, some of their ssds use idle time garbage collection. If yours came with a spec manual, I would look there.
The way Chang puts it is:
+OCZ's goal is to keep SSD performance at peak levels over the drive's lifespan. OCZ, he said, uses two basic garbage collection methods: incorporating the maintenance within firmware, and providing user-initiated tools to accomplish the same task. OCZ provides three different garbage collection methods, said Chang. Some OCZ drives feature idle-time garbage collection in the firmware, including PCI-Express and high-capacity 3.5-inch SSDs, which aim for high-performance endurance. OCZ's mainstream 2.5-inch SSD solutions ship with TRIM support, which is enabled on Windows 7 and various Linux versions.+
+For users who prefer Windows XP or Vista, OCZ provides a manual garbage collection tool that can be initiated at the user's discretion, said Chang, noting that the company also provides a garbage collection upgrade firmware for XP and Vista systems. "Garbage collection is just one more tool in OCZ's feature sets that helps sustain the revolutionary performance of SSDs over the long term," said Chang.+
So, if yours uses the idle time, it may need not benefit from a nap, although I can not find anywhere that suggest how long idle time is.
I find the whole OCZ presentation rather sloppy. I am sure they have good drives, but after reading on OCZ, it makes me want to take a nap.

I just added two external firewire drives and they keep going to sleep.  I did not have this problem when using USB external drives.  I have turned off "put disks to sleep" in power preference.

It is not clear if these are the same drives, just connected
    differently, or different drives?
One thing that may be happening is that the drives firmware
itself is putting it to sleep when inactive.  Many drives on
the market have ths feature and it is turned on by default
and require a drive utility from the manufacturer to disable it.

How can I unlock an IPod with a locked screen that says Will open in 21,889,406 minutes? It was in our companies lost and found a couple years ago. Was never claimed. If I could unlock it, I could possible find out whose it is/was or at least use it. Not sure what model or what operating system it has. Was lost in 2010 in the fall of that year.

  • How to create a navigation bar with custom made buttons?

I'm used to work with a similar program as Muse. In there we can create a single button and link them together into a navigation bar. I have tried all sorts of tutorials but none of them is discussing this possibility.
To summorize. The idea is to create a button in photoshop and to use this as a theme to build a navigation bar. Possible or not and how? Thanks for assistance. Rgds Rufin

    Hi Brad,
    Thanks for your reply.
No, not really. I used to work with XARA up till now. And being an Adobe Cloud user I think it a bit silly using two different systems. In XARA I can create a custom button and turn them into a navbar. For your information I include a few links to sites I created with Xara and I would like to know if I can create the same type of navbars with Abobe Muse. I already found out that all the other functions are available and some work a lot better in Muse, but I’m stuck on the navbar issue. I know I can create a button in Adobe PS and use it in Muse. But I didn’t manage to figure out how to create a navbar in Muse on basis of a button created in PS.

how can i reset my ipod if the lock button is broken?

To reset the iPod without the hardware buttons,
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings. All your wifi and bluetooth preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected. You will have to rejoin wifi networks and repair BT devices

  • My power/lock button presses itself randomly?

My iPhone 3GS's power/lock button decides to click itself whenever an object or my hand is near the button or just the top of my phone in general. Also, this causes the phone to turn on itself after I have switched it off. Can anyone offer any help? Thanks.

    Hi mickeyneedshelp,
Thanks for the question. Based on what you stated, it seems like a button on the iPhone is not working. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you isolate or resolve the issue.

If the Sleep/Wake button doesn't work
On iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, the Sleep/Wake button is on the right side of the device, near the top. On earlier models, the Sleep/Wake button is on the top of the device, toward the right side.
If the Sleep/Wake button isn't working and your iOS device is on, follow these steps:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button.
If you see "slide to power off," turn off your device and then turn it on again.
If you can't turn off your device, try to reset it.
If the Sleep/Wake button still doesn't respond, follow these steps and test again:
Check for debris or dirt around the Sleep/Wake button and clean it with a soft cloth.
    Remove any case or film.
If you can't turn on your iOS device, connect it to an A/C adapter. When your device is charged, try the steps above again. If the battery is extremely low on power, your device might display a black screen for up to 10 minutes (up to 20 minutes for iPad) before you see a charging indicator on the screen.
If you have an iPhone 5 and the Sleep/Wake button still isn't working, or works intermittently, you might be eligible for this replacement program.
If you've followed the steps above and the Sleep/Wake button still doesn't respond, if it works intermittently, or if it's damaged, contact Apple Support to set up service.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,

  • Power/Lock Button Replacement

After replacing the power/lock button on my iPhone 4, I lost the function of the secondary microphone, ambient light sensor and the proximity sensor. I am currently waiting for a replacement part so that I have a second attempt at this repair. 2 days ago, I updated to IOS 7.1.1 and noticed that the switch to enable and disable automatic display dimming is no longer available. I have already come to the conclusion this is because of a defective sensor (flex cable) and would like to know whether this feature willl automatically return once the flex cable and sensors have been replaced... Or will I have to reinstall IOS.

Tell you what KiltedTim, This is kind of a snobbish way of looking at someone who just happens to own a product he's quite willing to attempt repairs on himself. I will point out that the iPhone in question was purchased as a refurbished unit, with a new screen, battery and back cover, all of which are OEM. This kind of nullifies your statement about product support (ie spare parts) and should also enlighten you as to the reasons for me attempting repairs on the unit myself, as I already know it's not under any warrenty.
So, if you work for Apple and don't want to be helpful, that's your perogative. However, I don't believe just because I've already removed the back of my phone (and so has the person I bought it from) that I should in any way be exempt from putting forth a valid enquiry.
I don't really care if you work for apple or not, nor do I care about your opinions about anyone who opens up an apple product. The original question was software related.
fjwhiston - Cheers mate. Hopefully when I get the new flex cable (a £3 item) which contains mic, power button, light and proximity sensors... Things will be back to normal... We'll have to wait and see

  • My iphone doesnt want to start.all it shows is the apple icon.nothing more.i have tried holding the home button together with the lock button.what can i do .thanks

my iphone 4 doesnt want to start . all it shows is the apple icon.i have tried holding the home button together with the lock button. nothing seems to work . please help.

Plug the iPhone in with the Wall Charger. Then while plugged in do the Reset again, hold both Home and Power buttons until the iPhone Restarts. This usually begins to happen in less than 20 seconds time.
If you this does not work you can try to Restore the Firmware on your iPhone. If you decide to do this, connect your iPhone to your computer with iTunes open. Hold both the Home and Power buttons until the iPhone is detected by iTunes in Recovery Mode, this takes about 20 seconds time. Restore your iPhone.
If this does not work, you can try to Restore the Firmware on your iPhone in DFU Mode. Connect your iPhone to your computer with iTunes open. Hold both Home and Power buttons for exactly 10 seconds, release the Power Button and keep holding the Home Button until iTunes recognizes the iPhone in Recovery Mode, about 20 seconds more time. Restore the iPhone.
If this does not work and you have Warranty or AppleCare Coverage take your iPhone to Apple for resolution of the problem.

  • Why doesn't my iPhone 5 power/lock button work?

I just called the apple support people and I had told them my issue of my iPhone 5 power/lock button being dis functional. I had also told them I went to the apple store in guilford mall surrey,bc I had a week left in my warranty at that point. When I went to the apple store i told the representatives that my battery was having some problems ( this issue was resolved) and I told the representative that my power button sometimes has a problem but not as much. The representative did not take this into consideration and told me " to not use my phone as rough ". At this point I had thought my main issue was to only get my battery issue resolved which was resolved, so I didn't really think about asking one more time about the power/lock button. 2 weeks after my warranty had expired I first called apple support telling them I am having many difficulties with my lock/power button. They told me at that point it would cost $260+tax to replace the phone. Then I told them that I have already talked to your representatives at the apple store in guilford mall surrey bc and that they didn't take it into consideration at that point. The apple care person told me "I'm sorry sir you could've have only gotten it replaced when you were still under warranty" and he said " the only option here is to restore your phone ( which I did and nothing changed) or replace your phone by paying $260+ tax. After I told them I would try going to the store again to resolve this disappointing issue. When I went in the store today I told the same thing I told to the representative over the phone and the store representative told me "sorry your appointment of coming before your warranty is not showing up on my system" then I pulled up an email confirming that I had actually come to the same apple store before my warranty had expired. He still didn't take anything into consideration and told me to just use the accessible touch or pay the amount to replace my phone  I am very disappointed because when I went before my warranty was about to expire the representative didn't advise me to get my phone replaced and simply didn't take my concern into consideration. I hope the manager of the store looks into this for the future customers and tries to resolve my issue. Thanks

After your appointment at the Genius Bar, you received an email asking for your feedback.  I suggest you copy these comments and paste them there.  Ranting here serves no purpose at all.

  • The apps on my iphone 4 are not responsive. The power/lock button is broken. Is there any way to reboot the phone?

All apps are not responsive including 'Settings'. They quit as soon as you open it.
The power/lock button is not working.
I tried iTunes... there's no 'reboot' option (how sad...) and it for some reason not willing to restore my system.
Anyone has any solution to this?

    Hello there, SmartLeeShore.
As far as troubleshooting the main issue you're describing of apps quitting, you may find the following iPhone Troubleshooting Assistant helpful:
Apple - Support - iPhone - Application Troubleshooting Assistant
    http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/application/
Would definitely recommend that in Step 3 (Close App) that you close all applicaitons listed in that view.

  • Iphone 4s power/lock button click

When I press the power button on the right side, it sounds different than I press somewhere else.
The click isn't the same and this thing is annoying. I don't know if this is a problem, the button isn't stuck, it works well.
I want to know if the click sounds the same, anyway you press the button.
Sorry for my english and thanks

Your Power/Lock button now has a broken component, this is covered by your Apple Warranty. Make a Genius Reservation and take iPhone to Apple for resolution.
The important click function is made by a plastic component just under the metal button you touch on the outside. This plastic component has a 1mm nub in the middle. This plastic part is damaged, most likely the nub has broken off. The plastic piece can be replaced itself without replacing the whole Flex Cable, but Warranty Service with Apple is best solution right now.
