How to quit Microsoft Database Daemon SyncServicesAgent?

I am attempting to update Microsoft Office, but when I download the update, I receive the message that I need to quit these applications:
-Microsoft Database Daemon
-SyncServicesAgent
I do not know how to quit these applications and they do not appear in the "Force Quit" menu.  Suggestions?

I share your frustration. Tried for 50 minutes straight to delete and they kept coming back. Today I tried again, following the instructions given to close in Activity Monitor. Clicked on 'Quit process' and confirmed only to see them pop up again, and this time 'quit process' was greyed out so I couldn't click it. Finally i tried the keyboard instructions given (alt -cmd - Q) and yeayy! **** things stopped long enough for me to install an update. Might just be coincidence but it worked for me

I tried all the solutions above, and the many others that are posted on various other forums (involving shift keys, activity monitor, dragging and dropping apps, renaming etc).  None of them worked.  SyncServicesAgent and the Daemon App would reactivate evcery single time, within seconds.
What worked for me was to start the update installation and get to the point where it require syncservices etc to be closed.  At this point, i DISCONNECTED FROM THE INTERNET.  (I also quit syncservices and the database daemon in Activity Monitor but I don't know if that step was necessary).  Then I went back ot the update installation, clicked continue and it all went fine.
So the answer seems to be: go offline.
    Good luck
No, the answer is to quit the MS daemons that are running (database and syncservces), on or offline is not relevant.
You can't quit the daemons if Office is running, so exit Office first.

If the Office updates have to be run through Win in Parallels, there's not really a section here that covers that , because Neither Office or Parallels are Apple products. There is only a small chance that you'll find someone with BOTH your conditions who just happend to look into a forum on older iMacs.
    Parallels has a forum here:

I think you'll get a faster response there.

Microsoft's updater can close them on its own.  No need to twist that particular knob.

    Can't download office 2011 updates.
    Message says need to close:
    Microsoft Database Daemon

    don't know how

Open Activity Monitor (Applications>Utilities>Activity Monitor) select the processes (one at a time), double click one process, when box comes up, select force quit and repeat for remaining application. Note: for some reason I had to do this twice before it worked.

  • How do I close Microsoft Database Daemon and SyncServicesAgent

I cannot update my Microsoft software on my iMac as it keeps asking me to close Microsoft Database Daemon and SyncServicesAgent.  I cannot find out how to do this... hence I have not updated Microsoft on my iMac since I have had it. What are they for anyway?  Any help would be great - thank you.

Found an answer. Go to your Outlook, select Tools, SyncServices, untick all the boxes. Close Outloook, go to Activity Monitor and quit Microsoft Database Daemon and SyncServicesAgent. This time they'll stay closed.
Once your software update has finished go back to Outlook syncservices and retick the boxes.
Painful example of Apple and Microsoft software not talking to each other very well.

To close them open Activity Monitor, select All Processes, find them in the list of processes and quit them.

  • Microsoft database daemon and sync services agent will not close by force. What do I do?

This is completely irritating. To find answers, I have read previous posts about quitting Microsoft database daemon and Sync services agent to no avail. Anyone have an answer to quitting both applications? I am trying to update Microsoft Office.
    Thanks a bunch.

    Hello
This forum is for troubleshooting Apple Software Update for Windows, a software package for Windows designed to update Apple products that run on Windows, and not related to Microsoft Office or your question in any way. If you have issues or questions about Office, it's probably best you post Office related questions on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac products.

Thanks Kurt!  I had tried all that and had tried closing both programmes from the application monitor, but SyncServices Agent refused to close.  I tried closing Launchd which is their mother application, but that just caused the screen go go blank.  In the end the two programmes let themselves be closed next time I tried the installation process so all was well.  Thanks for your help!

  • How do i close microsoft database daemon and syncservicesagent to install office 2011

I am trying to install update 14.3.2 for Office 2011, but keep getting notice to close MSFT database daemon and syncservicesagent.  Can't figure out how to do this.

The easiest way is to do it using Activity Monitor, an app that it's stored on /Applications/Utilities. Just open it, search the processes that belong to "Microsoft Database Daemon" and "syncservicesagent", and kill them.
If you don't want to use Activity Monitor or you don't want headaches, another possibility is to install this Office update in safe mode, to make sure that no Office for Mac processes are opened. To start in safe mode, hold the Shift key while your computer is starting until you see the Apple logo. Then, log in your admin user, install the Office for Mac update and restart as usual
