How to rate songs?

I can't seem to find where on the iPhone you do this.

When in iPod on the iPhone and in the "now playing" screen click on the button in the top right hand corner that has the three lines on it. This brigns up a list of all the songs on that album at the top of the screen is 5 dots by swiping your finger across these they will become stars that rate the particular song you are listening to just click through your songs and swipe your finger and done

  • Shuffle 2G - How to rate songs?

Shuffle is a great way to explore a large music library since i have to admit that I haven't listened to hardly half of all the songs i have.
So now and then I listen to a cool song played by the shuffle on the go but i can't rate it. So i thought i connect the shuffle to iTunes and then while being able to see all the songs on it - i simply play through the lot. But iTunes wouldn't let me play the songs while connected with the iMac. All I can do is click on Ping. I tried to create a playlist from the songs on the shuffle but i can't do that either.
There must be a work-a-round.. Looking forward for some ideas!
    Thank you.

You can't rate songs directly on the Nano.  As for your other issue, it sounds like you are trying to manually manage the iPod's contents.  In that case, you need to enable the manually manage music button from under the Shuffle's Summary tab in iTunes.
See the appropriate section in this Apple support document for more information.

  • HT1535 How do i convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC

I am trying to sync selected songs to my Iphone 5 from my itunes library. I have recently taken my computer to be fixed and all of my music documents were taken off but the files were replaced shorty after. I re-downloaded itunes and it is up to date. My iphone is also on the ios 7.0.4. Whenever i plug my phone in to be synced it never goes past the "waiting for changes to be applied" step. While my phone was still connected i went to the "On this iphone" tab and clicked the autofill button and a message came up that said i must convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps ACC to allow the songs to be copied to my iphone. How do i do this? Also, once this is done will it solve my problem with transfeering my songs from my library to my iphone?

    Sid,
With the device connected, click the Summary tab and you will see the "Convert higher bit rate..." option.  Set it to 128.  See picture below:

  • Using the "Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC" feature...

I recently discovered the "Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC" feature and used it to copy my entire 70 GB music library to my 64GB iPad. The music library now occupies only 45 GB. Awesome!!!
Unfortunately, the whole process took well over 24++ hours on my quad core Windows 7 computer (takes about 6 seconds per track). Questions:
    1. Is it possible to speed up the process? Even though I am using iTunes 64-bit version, it seems that at no point is more than a single core being used at 33%. Seems to me like overall 8% of the CPU (33% / 4) capacity is being used for the conversion and 92% is being left idle. Is this just bad programming or is there anything I can do to speed up the process? Others see similar problems?
    2. Now I have already started dreading the day, I need to restore my iPad (e.g., when OS version 4 becomes available). I would hate to have to do this process all over again. Should I need to restore my iPad, is there anyway I can force iTunes to back up the 128-bit AAC versions on my computer and restore it up from there?
Any insights into both these questions will be deeply appreciated.
    Cheers,

    Thanks for the response.
So, I am wondering why iTunes uses only 8% of the processor power in converting the songs.
Possible reasons not to grab more of the CPU power (1) maybe the process is I/O bound due to all the writing, and is not processor limited? (2) since conversion is almost always a background program, and the user will typically have other things going on, maybe it intentionally limits CPU use?
I ran a few quick experiments (out of curiosity) and think the answer is #2. No apparent technical reason but potentially a limitation introduced by Apple's engineers to maintain a good user experience (for some people at least). I fired up 4 instances of dbpoweramp and ran multiple conversions and found that the process goes faster than what iTunes can do by an order of magnitude. With luck, someday Apple will have an option for users to select how much of processor bandwidth to be allocated for the conversion.

  • Can't rate songs in 7.0.1.8

since I upgraded to 7.0.1.8, I can't rate songs by clicking in the my rating column. Have to instead right click and use the myratig sub menu. What a pain in the arse! anyone know how to fix this?

    - Go to the iTunes music store.
    - Click on the 'Quick Link' to i"Tunes Plus" (upper right hand side)
    - Upper right hand top should have a box "Upgrade My Library"
    - Click the "See Details" button for your list of presently upgradeable tunes
Presently, you have to buy all or none. I believe the only way to upgrade specific songs (at the moment) is to temporarily remove the ones that you don't want/need to upgrade from your iTunes library before going to the store.
Sorry for the dumb question but can someone point me
in the right direction on how I go about upgrading
    specific songs that I've purchased?
I don't use itunes store all that much!
    Thanks,
    Steve.

If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar.  Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears. and Control+B to show the Menu bar
To import music into your iTunes library on the computer go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Add items to iTunes and follow the instructions
To sync to your iPod go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device and follow the instructions.

  • Can't figure out how to add songs to my iphone with itunes 11.

I can't figure out how to add songs from my itunes library to my iphone.  I used to just drag the songs from the library to my phone, but now that won't work. It's probably something really simple that I'm missing, but it's frustrating me. Can anyone help? My phone is the iphone 4 if that matters.

Yes, thank you also. I was racking my brains out how to do a simple thing like adding songs to my ipod.
But it's option+command+s to show or hide the side bar. 

  • For iTunes Match, how come some songs "match" on an album and other songs on the same album "upload" without matching?

For iTunes Match, how come some songs "match" on an album and other songs on the same album "upload" without matching?  All songs are available on iTunes.  I don't get it!  Any way to manually match songs that iTunes apparently can't match?  I have hundreds in this unmatched state.

Shazam has NO problem determining what these songs are. Maybe Apple needs to consider licensing their technology as it seems MUCH more accurate than what they are doing.
You aren't comparing like with like.
The main task that Shazam has is to identify the name or a track and the artist. I believe that it suggests the album as well, but if it gets that wrong then it doesn't really matter too much.
With iTunes Match, getting the album (i.e. identifying which version it is) is much more important. If it gets that wrong then it breaks up the flow of an album. This makes the task that match has very much harder.
In fact, there is a strong argument to say that currently the problem iTunes has is that it is matching too many songs, resulting in matches from different albums.
I'm sure that match is not struggling to identify whether it has a song or not, but whether it has the correct version of a song. When you introduce different masterings into the process then, depending on the thresholds set, it is probably correct in concluding that it hasn't got a particular version, even if you think it has.
The solution would appear to me to be a tweaking of the matching thresholds along with the ability to force an upload, but we just don't know what restrictions they have (remember that if Shazam gets it wrong the it doesn't present you with a copy of a new track that you didn't have previously). It is almost certainly not just a case of improving their technology.

  • Does any one know how to arrange songs by location in itunes lybrary?

I've ripped more than 100 CDs in different folder in my computer. After installing itunes, every songs is added to the library. But when I want to transpher some songs located in a specific folder, I can not find how? They only arrange by names, or album, or artist... They don't know if you got a collection of favourite songs in a folder, how can I find them, or I have to find each song manualy? Any one knows how to arragne songs by their location, pls help. Thanks alot

I can not drag directy from my store folder to my Ipod, right?
    Correct.
I dont want to select hundreds of songs one by one.
Okay. You have already done that.
But how do you find a specific song? You have to remember if it's in your favorites folder or in the artist folder or ???
In iTunes, you create a playlist, put the music you want in the playlist, drag the playlist to your iPod in iTunes.
Anytime you wan t, add or remove songs from this playlist and plug in the iPod to sync it up.
    iTunes is a music manager.
You are simply using Windows Explorer/the desktop as a manager now.
iTunes is so much more versatile. You can sort, group, exclude by Album, Artist, date of song, Genre, and a bunch of other criteria.
Just as you don't care where a song is physically located on a CD, you don't need to be concerned (too much) with where it is on your HD. With iTunes, as long a syou know something about it (Artist or album), you can find it with one or two clicks.

You can't without a third party app. If you didn't purchase the Music with your Apple ID or if the music was imported from CD's on your friends iTunes library, syncing will not work ....nor will transferring purchases.

If you just want to be able to sync your devices to the same PC without having them get overwritten all the times, here is a free method
    http://cnettv.cnet.com/sync-your-ipod-two-computers/9742-1_53-50004835.html
Basically, you put the same itunes database file on all the PCs. This fakes itunes into thinking it is always the same PC and the ipod is OK to sync with it. It will NOT keep your libraries truly synced, though. I've just resigned myself to always buying from one PC and manually transferring the content to other PCs I want it on.

  • How to recover song that are "lost", itunes can't find them even though I have downloaded and played them before

Does anyone know how to recover songs that itunes has "lost"?
I downloaded them, synced my ipod, songs were added and I was able to play them.
On a recent sync the songs are suddenly "not found" according to itunes.  I can't locate them in the itunes folder, so I have no idea where itune put them.  BTW-this is not the first time itunes stored songs in a random directory......  Since itune can't find them, they were deleted from my ipod

Look, I understand I still need a card attached to the account. The problem is, it won't accept my card because I only have 87 cents in my bank account right now.
If I had known there would be so much trouble with the iTunes card, I would have just put the cash in my bank account in the morning instead of buying an iTunes card (I didn't expect the banks to be open on Thanksgiving of course).
Apple will only accept cards that have a balance. The balance is so small in my account that it won't accept it as a valid card.
I'm going to have to contact Apple anyway to reset the security questions. That's obvious. Your answers were not exactly helpful. You didn't tell me anything I don't already know, but thanks for trying to be helpful.
