where do i go in itunes to re-download past purchases that i accidently erased?

Go to the Purchased Tab in any app in order to download past purchase... apps in the App Store purchased tab, music, movies, TV shows in the iTunes purchased tab, books in the iBooks purchased tab.

Using iTunes 11 or later
Open iTunes. (You can download the latest version of iTunes.)
If you're not already signed in, choose Store > Sign In and type your Apple ID and password.
If you're in the iTunes Store, click the Library button, in the upper-right corner, to go to your library.
Make sure that you have "Show iTunes in the Cloud Purchases" enabled in your iTunes preferences by going to iTunes > Preferences in the Store tab and clicking OK.
In your iTunes library, click the content type you wish to download using the content selector in the upper-left. Choose Music to download music, Movies to download movies, and so on.
Locate the item or title you wish to download.
Click the download icon to download that item.

How do I download past purchases without paying for them again?

I am having problems locating audio files that I previously purchased. Specifically, i purchased and downloaded the entire Ricky Gervais Show series approximately two years ago. When i search for these files in itunes, it only allows me to purchase the items. When i select purchase, I receive a warning stating, "You have already purchased this item, would you like to buy again?" As a test i selected yes, and i was indeed charged money for the download. If itunes recognizes that i have previously purchased the content, why is it not allowing me to download the material again without repurchasing it?\

Most, but not all, content on the US iTunes Store is available to download again through iTunes in the Cloud (a couple notable exceptions seem to be TV Shows that don't have "seasons", such as The Daily Show, Colbert Report, etc.). You can't redownload purchases, Apple has a strict download once policy.
This is why it is important to have backups.
Assuming that you don't, you will have to repurchase the tracks. But you could try contacting customer service at Apple and explain the circumstances to them. There is a outside chance that they might take pity on you, but they are not obliged to.

Look under the Store menu in iTunes on your computer for the "Check for available downloads" command and run that. You may find the tracks there to be downloaded.
If not, contact the iTunes Store Customer Service department from their Support page (select the category and subcategory closest to the issue you're reporting and you'll find either an "Express Lane" button - just follow the instructions to get to the contact form, or an "Email Us" button) and explain the problem to them.

hi i dont know if this will work for anyone but i had not been on itunes for sometime but today i went on to watch a new episode of walking dead but it said i still had to wait 36 days out of the 90days , i managed to get my episode to download load by clicking my apple id in itunes going to account and at the very bottom off the page there is a button that says reset all warnings for buying and downloading i pressed this then it let me download hope this works for you worked for me

All you have to do is sign in to the apple store inside iTunes. If is doesn't show up automatically go to the Store menu > Authorize This Computer... You will have access to all of your purchases.

??? That article has pretty clear instructions on how to redownload anything that is redownloadable (audiobooks are not, but that is the only thing). The istructions for the iTunes store on an iOS device are the third link down from the top, and from a computer the last link.

What exactly do you mean when you say it isn't giving you the option to download, does it say it is already downloaded. If this is the case, then that suggests that the file is still somewhere in your iTunes library.
