How to re-install firefox and preserve passwords, cookies

Something has caused Firefox to become difficult to use. Specifically the search bar only works once after launch. The Remember password doesn't seem to work. Download manager stalls. Some sites won't play video. I've sought help on the forums and done the usual stuff, including re-installation. I like Firefox and don't want to change. I want to re-install Firefox, no add-on's or extensions. I want to keep all the personal stuff - a great pain to reconstruct all the bookmarks, passwords, etc.
Is there a script of wizard for this? If not a procedure and a copy of the latest executable?
Very frustrating.... Any help will be appreciated.

  • I just installed Firefox and I can't seem to be able to add my AVG toolbar to it. I already had AVG Internet Security before I installed Firefox. How do I add the AVG toolbar?

I just installed Firefox and I have been trying to add the AVG toolbar to it but I just can't seem to be able to do that. I already had AVG Internet Security before installing Firefox today. Does anyone know how I can add the AVG toolbar to Firefox?

It seems no one here is familiar with this application.
Which IE settings need to be changed? While Firefox doesn't have the same approach to security (e.g., by "zone") there may be some parallels.
In case the problem is the built-in PDF viewer introduced in Firefox 19, try the steps in this article: [[How to disable the built-in PDF viewer and use another viewer]].
    Does that make any difference?

  • I can not open Firefox due to a virus. Can I un-install and then re-install Firefox and save my original setup and favorites

I can not open Firefox due to a virus.
When trying to open Firefox, the program directed the computer to shut down, and prevented me from going into Safe mode.
The virus only affected Firefox and rebooting in Safe.
The virus has been scrubbed, but I get the crash report every time I try to open Firefox. Can I install a new version of Firefox and still keep my bookmarks/ How can I rescue my bookmarks.
I am posting this from another computer location.

I used to have a slightly similar problem. Not the Virus problem, but the re-install of Firefox. The solution for this in the future would be for you to install and use FEBE Firefox Environment Backup Extension so you can fully back-up your settings, and other Addons, and Themes etc. that were within your FEBE backed up profile, so you can do the re-install of Firefox and then restore your saved profile that encompasses all of or most of what you presently don't want to loose. You could still do a FULL PROFILE FEBE, and re-install Firefox, and do a FULL PROFILE RESTORE, and if you might no longer have a virus problem after the restore. If so, your in good shape. I would find and run a good quality Anti-Virus scan, and if you wish to try to catch what you might have missed with the new scan I also suggest from www.IOBit.com that you add 2 programs that look to be better at catching problems than most other scan and repair utilities. The programs I suggest you add are called Advanced System Care - presently is version 5, and IOBit Malware Fighter, and one other. Their super powerful Smart Defrag that is faster than most Defrag programs and their is only one other Defrag program that comes close to it's power, and that is Diskepper, and you get Smart Defrag for free, and it's better, and faster than the others in my opinion. ASC Advanced System Care will clean your system and make it run faster specially if you have noticed it is slowing down for one reason or another , and it will do this with less resources than the other programs that you may already be using. The only thing they lack at present is an Anti-Virus portion which would add much more value to the already super programs. Good Luck. Let me know what you think after trying the noted programs. You should be very satisfied of the results.

  • How do I install Firefox in English on a computer in Mexico?

''I have a Dell 2009 computer with 4 gigs of memory. I am running Windows 7 home ultimate. My home is in San Carlos Mexico. I had Firefox installed with the Windows 7 as my web browser. I uninstalled Windows 7 and went back to Windows XP service pack 3. After realizing my dumb error I had Windows 7 re-installed, but when I download Firefox it only installs in Spanish(which I don't speak). I have tried many times to reinstall it(I even have my IP address located in the United States via Hide-My-Ip aplication) but it still installs in Spanish. My question is: How can I install Firefox on my computer? Would a cd with Firefox on it work? Please advise as I really like Firefox much better than IE(which installed on my computer in English ok).Thank you for your prompt response. Charles Yoder

You can get the English version from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html

'''Is there a way to download FF to a USB from another computer and install it from that USB on my PC? '''
You basically answered your own question. If you have access to another computer just go download the appropriate language and OS version of Firefox 5.0 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html and put it on you usb drive and then go and install it onto you pc.

  • I am not very tech savvy, installed Firefox and it w0n't communicate with my email (incredimail). also is there a way to transfer my favorites/bookmarks over from IE to firefox? Those two things would be a great start!

I am not very tech savvy, installed Firefox and it won't communicate with my Incredimail. If I click on a link in my email it does nothing. ie: if i click on the pay now button on ebay or paypal it goes nowhere. also is there a way to transfer all my favorites/bookmarks from IE to firefox. I've heard Firefox is so much better than IE but I am getting frustrated (probably out of my own ignorance of the program) and ready to go back to IE. Please help! Thanks. Jeanne

I cannot help with Incredimail, but I do know how to transfer bookmarks.
One can use File > Import from the menu or export favourites from IE as .html and then import the file into Firefox from the "Show all bookmarks" window. To get the menu to show up, press Alt. Firefox should have offerecd to import several items from IE when you first set it up. Did it not do that?

  • How does one install Firefox on Windows 7 for just one user, so separate users can have completely independent Firefox installations?

I'd like to create a new user, and install firefox for that user completely separate in all respects from the existing user's installation, so that there is no interaction at all between the two installations, with separate copies of the program files as well as separate Firefox profiles.

I was asking about how to have multiple Windows user accounts, and how to install Firefox independently for different Windows user accounts.
Firefox does not ask if you want to install it for everyone or just the current user, unlike many programs.
I tried switching to the newly created Windows user account, which was able to use the Firefox installed by the other user account, and installing Firefox, and although there's no indication that it's installing a user specific copy of Firefox, it is. Now the original user account sees it's installation of Firefox and the second user account sees it's installation of Firefox and no longer runs the first users installation of Firefox.
Creating separate Firefox profiles is what I was trying to say I didn't want to do. That's why I mentioned wanting completely separate copies of the program files, not one copy of the program files running two instances simultaneously.

You can't with the default Xandros Linux Operating System that came with the EeePC, the GTK package is older than what Firefox 3+ versions require. <br />

I installed EasyPeasy in 2010, which is a netbook variant of Ubuntu, but that project hasn't been updated recently and I think the builders have lost the incentive to come out with a new version because the Ubuntu 11 versions have much better netbook support than back in 2009 and 2010.
I'm looking for a "lighter" version of Linux for my EeePC 900, like maybe Puppy Linux. I don't use my EeePC for anything except for "surfin" and Ubuntu installs too much superfluous crap for installing it in the 4GB SSD, and I can't figure out how to tie both the 4GB and 16GB SSD's together as one "drive" as it was with the Xandros operating system. The first Ubuntu program updates I got after installing Easy Peasy filled up the 4GB drive, and I am too much of a Linux noob to try a figure out how to fix the mistake I made when installing it to the smaller SSD. Firefox 3.6 works fine for me and that is good enough for now.

  • How do I install Firefox Mobil on my Andriod phone once I download it to my desktop computer?

How do I install Firefox Mobil on my Andriod (Droid) phone once I download Firefox Mobil to my desktop computer?

The easiest way to install Firefox to your Android phone is to download it directly to your phone. Go to [http://firefox.com/m/beta firefox.com/m/beta] in your phone's browser, press the download button, and then open the downloaded file to install it.
Or, if you have the Android SDK development tools installed on your PC and are comfortable using the command line, you can use the [http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/tools/adb.html adb] command to install from your PC to your phone.

  • Uninstalled IE with flash player, installed firefox and added flash player - doesn't work!

    Hey guys,
I have just used Revo Uninstaller Pro to remove IE 9 (I think ... it's the standard built in IE taht comes with my Win7 Home Premium 64 bit OS).  I had flash player installed in IE.  Upon uninstalling all flash components from my computer using Revo, I did an "advanced" search to find all leftover registry entries and files/folders associated with Flash.  While doing this, Revo had warned me of some files that "have recently been added" (I believe since initial installation of Flash), and gave me the option of deleting these one at a time.  I cannot remember what these files included, but looking at a posting from another person, i seem to recognize some files that I *may* have deleted while removing with Revo:
    Flash10d.ocx
    Flash10e.ocx
    FlashUtil10e.exe
    GetFlash.man
    install.log
    swflash.inf
    uninstall_activeX.exe
(again, I have no idea if ANY of the above were the actual ones I deleted, but I seem to remember seeing a couple of these at least listed to me as options to delete)
I proceeded to remove ALL files from my computer.
Then, upon installing Firefox and, subsequently installing flash on it, I noticed that some flash websites load and work properly, whereas other ones don't.  I also been to the adobe confirmation page stating taht I have successfully installed and am running Adobe Flash player.  Is this simply a case of missing one key component in flash?
Before the entire uninstall mission I did, I remember revo as listing more than 1 Flash programs installed.  I believe I had seen two flash 11 programs installed in Revo, which I thought were just simply duplicate installations.  I vaguely remember one of them being listed as Flash player 11 and the other as Flash player 11 activex?  (both were removed off my system).
Are these files different and did I, in fact, need both of these installed?
Anyway, I have no idea where to go from here.  Help please!
    Thanks!

So what Flash Player version do you have currently installed?

What exactly do you see on sites that don't work?

  • I can't open Firefox and I haven't saved my extensive bookmarks, which contains all my important websites. How can I start Firefox and save my bookmarks?

I have a Dell Inspiron E1505, and I use Kaspersky Internet Security. The past week, I've had problems opening Firefox - it has been slow. Today, it just won't open at all. At first I thought it was my Internet connection, so I called my provider, Comcast Cable. But I was also able to open Internet Explorer. I was told that I may have to remove Firefox, and redownload it, but it would erase all my bookmarks. How can I access Firefox and save my bookmarks?

Try starting Firefox in Safe Mode (Firefox Safe Mode, not Windows Safe Mode).
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
    Next, check out this article:
[http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode Safe Mode]. Be careful not to "reset" anything permanently if you didn't back up.
To export bookmarks to an HTML file that IE and other browsers can read, see [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Exporting%20bookmarks%20to%20an%20HTML%20file Exporting bookmarks to an HTML file | How to | Firefox Help].
    Any luck?

I installed firefox-and thought I had imported bookmarks from internet explorer. unfortunately not. is there any way to retrieve them? Without individually retyping then

Check the Bookmarks menu, is there a folder called "From Internet Explorer", if there is that folder should contain your IE favorites. If they are not there, see the [[Importing favorites and other data from Internet Explorer]] article.
