How to re-install my late 2008 Macbook, if I can't find my original installation DVD?

I would like to re-install my late 2008 Macbook, however I can't find my original installation DVD. Can I just buy an new OS X 10.7 Lion DVD from Apple Store, then put it into Macbook DVD slot to restart my new OS X instllation without my original inBox installation DVD?

While we all have MacBooks in this forum most of us don’t have Lion. There's a Lion Support Community where everybody has Lion. You should also post this question there. https://discussions.apple.com/community/mac_os/mac_os_x_v10.7_lion

I have bought a 2nd hand late 2008 macbook air and can't install iPhoto as it says it requires update 10.9 or higher i can't seem to update any further than 10.7.5 can anyone help please???

Thankyou for your response... being new to this i have had a look and it says the following
This system can run the last version of OS X 10.8 "Mountain Lion" as well as the current version of OS X 10.9 "Mavericks," but does not support the AirDrop, AirPlay Mirroring, or Power Nap features. It is not supported booting into 64-bit mode when running Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard." It does support "OpenCL" and Grand Central Dispatch introduced with Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard."
Please note that OS X "Lion" 10.7 and subsequent versions of OS X, like Mountain Lion and Mavericks, are not capable of running Mac OS X apps originally written for the PowerPC processor as these operating systems do not support the "Rosetta" environment. To run PowerPC applications on this Mac, it will be necessary to use Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard" or earlier
    what do i do next
Thankyou once again for your reply

  • How to transfer/migrate from Late 2008 MacBook Pro to MacBook Pro, with retina?

Is there anyway of directly connecting a Late 2008 MacBook Pro to a MacBook Pro, with retina, in a Target Disk Mode way without having to wait for the magical adapter in July?
Should I go to the Apple Store, buy a normal MacBook Pro, use it to do the transfer, and return it?
Thanks to anyone for taking the time to answer.

There is Setup Assistant when you first boot the new Mac, over wireless it's supposed to migrate for you, however I hear it can take hours and days to complete.
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/MacBook_Pro_Retina_QuickStart.pdf
Another faster method would be to use the free/donations Carbon Copy Cloner the old Mac to a blank USB3, 2,1 drive, then hook it up to the new Mac and use Setup Assistant (or Migration Assistant) that way, it will think it's another Mac.
You can also simply drag and drop files into a same named account on the new machine manually from the clone.
It should take about a hour per 250GB to clone, about another hour for Setup Assistant.
Over wireless it could take a eternity.

  • HT201343 how to mirror late 2008 macbook pro to apple tv

I have a late 2008 macbook pro. Can I mirror this to apple tv?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities

AirPlay Mirroring is only compatible with Early 2011 and newer MacBooks Pro, so your MacBook isn't compatible. However, you can use a third-party application to mirror your computer onto your Apple TV, as AirParrot > http://www.airparrot.com

How do I install Mavericks onto a new SSD HD in my late 2008 Macbook Pro, and then I  hopefully can reinstall my data from my Time Machine backup?
I presume the SSD will need some type of formatting, before I can install Mavericks from the internet? Then can I use my Time Machine backup to reinstall all my other software and settings?

In order to load Mavericks the SSD will have to be formatted Mac OS Extended with GUID partition mapping

A 2008 Mac won't have originally shipped with Lion. You need to install 10.6.8 on the computer, log into the Mac App Store with the Apple ID you used to purchase Mountain Lion, click on the Purchases tab, and download it.

  • I have a late 2008 Macbook Pro last updated to Mavericks OS.  The screen died and it's not worth replacing.  How do I remove the hard drive and use a drive sled to access info I need?

I have a late 2008 Macbook Pro last updated to the Mavericks OS.  The screen died and I took it into an Apple store and was told replacing the screen and the hardware to repair everything would cost almost as much as buying a new laptop or a cheaper model.  I was told that I can use a drive sled to access data I need on my hard drive. How do I remove my hard drive and use a drive sled to get to the information I need?  What makes matters more complicated is I need to update my iPhone and my iTunes/App store purchases.  How can I accomplish this?
My wife has a late 2008 Macbook Pro as well, which I am assuming I need to run my hard drive.  Is there a way to just access just my hard drive without interfering with hers?
I know this is lengthy.  Thanks to whoever looks at this and offers advice/instruction.

the device you need is an External enclosure for a 2.5" (laptop form factor) SATA drive.
A USB-interface enclosure will be slow, but is adequate for this task and for re-purposing as a backup drive later.  A firewire-interface drive would be faster, but is harder to find, more expensive, and faster than needed for this purpose.
The drive will mount as an "extra" drive on your wife's Macbook, and you can drag and drop whatever you wish. You could create a separate Account for yourself on her computer, and use Migration Assistant or just copy your stuff over to the new account. Then it would not interfere with her files.

  • I did a factory reset on my late 2008 MacBook from a Snow Leopard disc. It installed fine, but as soon as I began to use the computer (safari) it froze. Couldn't even force quit. So I held down the power button to turn it off, and now it won't start up.

I did a factory reset on my late 2008 MacBook from a Snow Leopard disc. It installed fine, but as soon as I began to use the computer (safari) it froze. Couldn't even force quit. So I held down the power button to turn it off, and now it won't start up. It goes to the grey Apple screen and just sits there loud as can be. Help! Please keep in mind I've not done anything like this before and am going to need a little hand-holding. Thanks in advance.

Hi. Don't worry it's nothing serious. Insert the Instal Disc (Snow Leopard) and press the C button while turning on the computer. Once you see the desktop, go to Utility and choose Disk Utility. Select the Macintosh Partition on the left window pane and then click on Repair Disk and Repair Disk Permissions on the bottom right corner. Wait for both processes to finish. Click on the Apple icon (top left corner) and choose quit. Your computer should restart. See if it reboots normally. If not you can always reinstall the OS following the same steps. Good luck!

  • How to update graphics card drivers for late 2008 macbook pro with Nvidia 9600m GT?

Can anybody help me update the drivers for my 9600m GT graphics card for my Late 2008 Macbook pro? I am running OS X Lion 10.7.5 with a Windows 7 partition. I have tried finding support on Nvidia's website, but at least for the 9600m GT, it isn't supported for my operating system. Would I have to update it from my Windows side? And if so, would the update apply to my OS X side as well? I have a little computer knowledge, but nothing indepth.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
In OS X, Apple provides the GPU drivers and you cannot update them from NVIDIA. They are updated with each OS X update, so you are running the most recent drivers for your OS X version. OS X Mountain Lion and Mavericks have got more recent GPU drivers, but it's not worth upgrading unless you need newer drivers for an app (I highly doubt this).
However, you can update the GPU drivers in Windows, and you should do it to get the best performance. You can download them from the NVIDIA site > http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us Note that drivers are only applied in the operating system you are installing them, so they will not be installed in OS X

  • How many hours does a brand new battery last after fully charged. I have a late 2008 Macbook Pro.

How many hours does a brand new battery last after fully charged. I have a late 2008 Macbook Pro.

clintonfrombirmingham is right, there is no way to exactly tell. But from personal experience, a new battery on a 2008 will last for about 2 1/2 hours with a higher screen brightness and doing something taxing to the battery (like gaming or running lots of 3D programs). But if you're just listening to music with the brightness all the way down, and no programs running, you could get up to 12 hours. So for average use, it should last you a whole business day (assuming you don't use it more than 30% 0f the time). Hope this kind of gives you more of an idea of what to expect:)

  • How do I revert to Snow Leopard from Yosemite on late 2008 MacBook with no optical drive?

Late 2008 MacBook. I don't need to back up, just to go back from Yosemite to Snow Leopard without a working optical drive.
    Thank you.

If you have a Time Machine backup from Snow Leopard, then use it to restore from. Other than that, you will need to get an optical drive and run your install disks that came with your computer. Of course, you will need your Snow Leopard updater if you still have it since you can't get it from the App Store.
I may be wrong about it not being available. I found a like from apple where you can still purchase it. It may still work.
