How to read old (archived) mail?

Hi -
As the subject indicates, I'm not sure what the best way is to read old archived mail....
Old mail was saved before I updated to Tiger, and don't know if that makes a difference.
Obviously I want to avoid overwriting any current messages, but would also like to know how to pull archived messages and keep them with my current messages, if possible.
Thanks,
Andrew

If these archives were saved with Jaguar or Panther Mail, it does make a difference since the mbox format used with Tiger Mail is significantly different than the format used with previous Mail.app versions.
You can use the Import Mailboxes feature. Imported mailboxes are placed within an Import named folder kept separate from existing Tiger Mail mailboxes and messages.

  • How do I access archived mail?

Please advise how I can check archived mail and mabe find something that was put in the trash a few months ago and I need!!!
    I do have a time machine but can't find a Mobileme/mail icon.
    THANK YOU!!!

If you put it in the trash, but never deleted the trash, it may still be in there.
Even if it has been deleted, if you've been using Time Machine, it should be easy to get back.
Launch Mail and make its main window the front window.  Select the mailbox where that deleted item existed.  Click on the Time Machine icon in the Dock, to go to the flying through space screen.
Note:  I noticed there was a bit of "lag" when I did this with the Mail window, for the first time.  If it seems unresponsive (or slow) initially, just wait a minute or so on that screen and responsiveness should improve.
Go "back in time," using the timeline on the right edge of screen, until you see the item that was deleted.  Select that item.  Click Restore.

  • How to move old e-mail from iMac to shared MacMini - separate user accounts?

My wife and I share a new MacMini.  We each have separate user accounts.  She would like her old e-mail messages moved from her old iMac to the MacMini.  I believe they are in her old iMac's USER--LIBRARY--MAIL  directory.  Is this right?   Do I just copy these files and paste them in the same directory in the MacMini?
Also does anyone know how to move her old Keychain files on her old iMac to her user account on the macmini?
    Thanks for the help.   -Bruce

There are two issues when I do so. First of all I have "ghost" accounts who do not show up in my e-mail preferences but keep on showing up randomly. Secondly I cannot remove "other accounts" in Mail>Preferences I will get the following error message: The account "XXXX.XXXX.Com"  is shared using iCloud. You can remove this account from iCloud in Internet Accounts.
And in iCloud internet accounts the particular account will not be visible.

  • How to export old sent mail in my macbook and import it in my Mac?

I want to export my old sent mail in my macbook and import it in my new Mac?

There is a bug when doing “export mailbox” and import mailbox functionality.
    Workaround:
      > Open Finder and under the “Go” menu, hold down the option key.  The “Library” sub-menu will show up.
      > Copy the entire “Library > Mail” folder to a USB disk (it will not work if copying to a shared drive for some reason)
      > Take the USB disk to the new computer and do an “Import Mailbox” and select the copied Data file.  There will be LOTS of folders that come up for import, you can browse through and deselect what you don’t need (e.g. trash or junk mail), OR just import everything and then clean up from your mailbox.
      > The imported folders will show up in mail under the “On My Mac” area.

  • How do I view archived mail

I have an achive of mail, How do I view it or search through it?

Assuming you used Mail's Archive to perform the archive:
An Archive mailbox is created in the sidebar for each account whose messages you archive, and the archived messages are automatically moved there.
Archived messages remain in the Archive mailbox until you delete or move them. Depending on the account type, the Archive mailbox is stored on the mail server.

  • How to read old library with new instal

My old G4 finally died. I bought a new G5 iMac, set it up and used back up to reload all my old prferences. Now I check iphoto and it looks like these preferences were not backed up. My library lives on an external drive. These are the files in that folder; AlbumData.xml, Dir.data, iPhoto Selection (folder), iPhoto.db, iPhotoLock.data, Library.iPhoto, Thumb32.data, Thumb64.data, ThumbJPG.data. When I open iphoto it askes if I would like to create a new library of find an old one. When I direct it to my external drive it does not see any of these files as the ones to use to read this library. I have iphoto v 5.0.4. Does anyone know how I can get iphoto to see this old library? You can also email answers to [email protected] Thanks.

    Hi KRA,
Take a look at the screenshots. When asked to choose the iPhoto Library, do you choose the iPhoto Library on the external. The iPhoto Library is the file you should choose.
When you launch iPhoto holding down the Option key this is the window you will get.
Create a new library or choose a library to open
Choose to create a new library if that is what you want to do, or choose a library to open by clicking the "choose" button.
If you click the "create library" iPhoto will open with a brand new library for you to import images to. If you click "choose" then you will get this window.
    Open library
Navigate to where the library is on your computer and then choose it.

  • How to delete old archived logs

hai i am running oracle 9i in archive log mode
my disk is about 90% full
pls tell me how to delete archive logs that are very older

    Hi Rajeskm,
First of all, archives should not be deleted, depending your backup policie, you can need them in a recovery. But if you want delete them, do:
find <log_archive_dest>/ -name *.rdo (or extention used by you) mtime +<days ago> -exec rm{}\
    Explanation:
Find -- The first, and most obvious, use is find's ability to locate old, big, or unused files, or files that you forgot where they are.
mtime -- The mtime--modify time--is the time when the actual contents of a file was last modified. This is the time displayed in a long directoring listing (ls -l).
rm -- Deletes a file without confirmation (by default).

  • How to Read Offline / Downloaded Mail on iPad

    Hi All,
I use MacMail as my primary email application on my Macbook Pro, and I have a few offline Mailboxes that I created to move downloaded mail into. For example, one is an "Action" folder for email that needs to be read and processed at a later time.
I also recently purchased an iPad (1st gen), and I would very much like a relatively simple way to read my "Action" folder and others on the iPad.
I don't even care if it's within the iPad Mail application itself, or if it can be done with another reader. Also, the email in the "Action" folder is a hodgepodge from different accounts, some POP and some IMAP, although as I stated, it's all already downloaded and therefore just .eml files at this point.
Is there any way to move or migrate the mail in my folder to my iPad, without having to go through and manually forward each piece of mail to another email account?
I hope I've adequately explained my question. Basically looking for a way to migrate mail from a mailbox, knowing that the iPad currently doesn't sync Mailboxes.
If anyone can help I'd appreciate it.

UPDATE: Actually this ended up working very smoothly. It took a while for my Webmail, MacMail, and iPad Mail to all update and see the IMAP "Action" Mailbox I created, but it finally showed up. The only thing was that I actually create the Mailbox in the MacMail application on my Macbook Pro - this seems to work best, not only for getting it seen on the server quickly, but because if I created the Mailbox in Webmail, for example, it wouldn't always show up on MacMail on my computer. This way seemed to be the best.
Once I copied the mail I wanted to into it (moving it from Inbox on my Laptop), all of the mail was copied to the IMAP server of that account. It didn't matter where the mail originated - it was from several sources, including Yahoo which is POP. All the Time stamps, date, and other information was exactly as it had originally been. This is great, because I know exactly when this material came in, and now that it has all been converted to IMAP, if I delete or move a piece of mail on any device or the web, it will refresh and sync with the other devices, iPad included - even if the original mail was POP.
Finally, the 200 Message limit was also only a limitation for the original download. Just like my iPhone, the iPad gives you the option to download all the mail in the folder (Or I assume all - not sure how many messages total it will allow, as this folder only had 244 messages).
Thanks again for people's advice, and here's hoping this will help someone else having the same issues.

  • How to delete old e-mail addresses?

Sorry if this has already been addressed...but since I can't search the forums right now.....
I accidentally typed in an incorrect e-mail address for someone, and actually tried to use it a couple of times. I realized my mistake, and then corrected the e-mail address in my Contacts. Now, when I try to send an e-mail to Tom, when I start to type his name, it still gives me the option of choosing both the bad address, and the correct address. Does anyone know if there is a way to permanently erase the "bad" address? Again, the bad address is no longer anywhere in my contacts. Thanks in advance!

I also have been looking for a way to do this. Calling iPhone support didn't yield any answers.

All pretty much say the same thing. I know doing a restore would work, but that seems pretty overkill for a mistyped email address, right?
On the other hand... if it gets rid of this frustration...

  • How to read old Appleworks documents

    Greetings,
I am a former Apple Works user (and Claris works before that).  I have dozens of documents that were created in the "drawing" department of AW which I have discovered to my horror can not be read by Pages.  Seems like the old AW text documents convert just fine.  Anybody out there encounter this?  Any workarounds?
    Thanks,
    Dave B

Yes, there is a work around. A little search would have pointed you to this thread among others
Convert AppleWorks 6 Draw files to open and edit in Pages.
    Happy converting!

  • How to delete archive mail from ipad mini

How do you delete archive mail on a mini ipad?

If this is part of a gmail account (not an Apple email account), then all "deleted" email goes to the archive box.
go to settings->mail contacts calendars -> choose your email account -> and turn archive messages to off.

  • Any one have idea how to read microsoft exchange server inbox mail

I am trying to build a program which can read the mail from exchange server and i found microsoft exchange server is used MAPI protocol for mail server. I did not found anything which can guide me how to read exchange server mail and what ever i found is, i need to use connector to connect with microsoft exchange server.

The simplest approach is to configure the Exchange server to allow IMAP access.  If you can't do that, you'll need to use one of the third party products that use MAPI to access Exchange.

How do you mass archive emails in iclould mail?  I have 330,000 emails and what to move old emails from my inbox to a managed folder. Can anyone help?

Winston - thank you for your reps but that is common sense... Icloud only displays 50 emails at a time. So your recommendation doesn't work if you have 330,000 emails in your inbox. I am looking for a way to do a mass move.. Like a filter or rule that runs in the inbox. Current rules can only work as emails arrive.
    Any other thoughts?

  • How can I "archive" mails in Mail App to another internal drive/partition to save space but still have it searchable in spotlight (and preferably visible, searchable, draggable in Mail App)?

How can I "archive" mails in Mail App to another internal drive/partition to save space but still have it searchable in spotlight (and preferably visible, searchable, draggable in Mail App)?
    Background:
I am using Mountain Lion and Mail App and running out of space on my small primary SSD drive (where I keep OS, apps, key user preferences/data and mail for speed). The mail data is the big variable (many GBs) and I want to "archive"/move some of the old mail to my 2nd drive inside the Mac. But I still want it searchable inside spotlight and preferably even inside Mail too. And I'd like to be able to still drag and drop old mails into this archive folder.
What I've tried that seems to work:
    This seemed to work:
    1. Move the archive folder/mailbox to the 2nd drive/partition/folder (don't delete anything inside Mail App)
    2. Create a symbolic link from its new location to the original/old location
This seems to work, it looks as "normal" and as if nothing happened inside Mail App but the folder now resides elsewhere and seems searchable etc. But I'm not sure that once caches refresh or over time with updates etc if stuff will break horribly or corrupt.
Is that the right way to "archive" mails in Mail App to another internal drive/partition to save space but still have it searchable in spotlight and visible, searchable, draggable in Mail App?
    Thanks in advance!
    Cheers,
    Daniel

I'm having a similar but slightly different problem. My company just migrated to Gmail, and it's saving mail drafts every 30 seconds into my Trash folder.
I unchecked the "Show in IMAP" preference in the Gmail settings, but my Drafts folder completely disappeared. I went back and checked it and the folder reappeared (with my drafts still in there).
I like the idea if starting an email on my laptop and having the option of finishing it on my iPhone or iPad, so only saving Drafts locally would not be ideal.
