How to read value of -Xmx from my Java application?

Hi
I need to ensure that may application is always running with 256 MB of heap size. Can we read this value from Java applicatio so that I can force the user to ensure the setttings.
I tried using Runtime.getRuntime().maxMemory(), but it gives me back the "reserved" space for the heap.
Any better solution?
Thanks in advance
Jobinesh

You can use maxMemory() like:
final long maxMemory = Runtime.getRuntime().maxMemory() / 1048576;
System.out.println(maxMemory + "M");but you need to be aware of certain things. For example the fact that the underlying system might not allow maxMemory() bytes to be allocated.

  • How to read files on server from a java program?

    Hello,
    I am fairly new to JSP programming. I have an issue with reading files. I am trying to call method of a normal java file from a jsp program. The method I am trying to call does some IO operation on Files. I have the files in the same directory as my class files on server that is in WEB-INF/classes folder. In my java program, I am giving just the file name to open because the files and the classes are in the same directory. But this is not working.
    What exactly should I do to read a file from a java program, that is running on the server?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Krishna

    String realFilePath = application.getRealPath("/WEB-INF/myFile.txt");
    File fileToOpen = new File(realFilePath);
    out.println(fileToOpen.getAbsolutePath() + ": exists? " + fileToOpen.exists());in this case "application" is a reference to the ServletContext.
    It is an implicit variable in a JSP. In a servlet:
    ServletContext application = getServletConfig().getServletContext();

  • How to create a exe file from a Java application

    hi,
    i have developed an application in java,now i want to distribute it to my client, for this i need to build a .exe file out of this application.
    i already have a jar file ,now can i convert a jar file to a exe file.
    im trying this out with JSmooth project but im getting it right, so can anyone help me .
    thanks,
    vishal j

    if u use dos to run your app like
    "java myapp"
    u can create a shortcut link
    in target wright java remove the path
    just leave the file name without the extension,
    like this Target: "java myapp"
    when u click on appy u'll c that java gets its full path, thats fine
    that works 4 me, ofcourse ur client needs to have JRE or JDK.

  • How to start a .hlp-file from a java-application?

    This is what I have done so far:
    if(button == helpButton){
                   try{
                        String helpFile = "help.hlp";
                        Runtime.getRuntime().exec(helpFile);
                   catch(IOException e){
                        textArea.append("The helpfile could not be opened." + "\n");
              }When i press the helpButton it throws the IOException. Does anyone know why?

    And a short explanation:
    You can "start" that file by typing it into the shell, but it's still no executable (.com or .exe). The shell will search the registry for the associated application, run its executable and hand over the file to be opened as a command-line argument.
    If you just Runtime.exec the filename, there is no shell that could do this work, and thus the process fails. With "cmd /c" you can invoke a shell session to execute the command.

    Ahh, kind of a duplicate thread:

    Hi,
       I am using DMM4040, NI PXI 6509 device.
    I need to make some port pins high which i have already done and now i have to read value captured by DMM then i have to make my port pins low if my value is within limits.
    Can u suggest me how to read values from DMM and then by notification i ll make my port pins low.
    '' A professional is someone who can do his best work when he doesn't feel like it''...........

    What language are you using?  If using LabVIEW, you use the NI-DMM API to communicate with the 4040.  Just take your reading, do your limit comparison, and set your lines based on the comparison results.

  • How to passing value into Captivate from html?

    How to passing value into Captivate from html?
    Or
    How to communicate between objects in one slides?

    Hi czhao0378 and welcome to the forums!
    Captivate does not natively allow you to communicate your own
    data, either internally or externally. The only way to make this
    happen is to create your own functionality, either via custom-built
    Flash objects or JavaScript code executed in the browser or a
    combination of both.
    The only example I've seen of any "data passing" inside
    Captivate is a custom text input/output solution that was posted on
    the Captivate Developer Exchange:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?event=extensionDetail&loc=en_us&extid=1253 021
    This solution consists of an input box that takes information
    from the user on one slide and a second box that displays that
    information on another slide. The functionality was built in Flash
    and is embedded in Captivate as a Flash "animation". Unfortunately,
    since this is a custom functionality, the information is not
    included in the user completion results Captivate can pass to a
    Learning Management System.
    Since the solution mentioned above relies on a Flash
    Actionscript variable to hold the information that is displayed,
    you can also pass the information from HTML to Captivate using the
    "SetVariable" command in JavaScript. This would at least allow you
    to display your own HTML-based data inside Captivate.
    Beyond that, I'm not aware of any other way to gather and
    pass data in Captivate.

  • How to change value of ${eol} from \n to \r\n, writing by File Adapter

    Hi All,
    How to change value of ${eol} from \n to \r\n, while writing file through File Adapter.
    As my file is being created in Linux environment, so for new line separater, \n is used. I mounted this file directory to windows System.
    As Windows requires \r\n for new line seperator. So I need to change value of ${eol} in the Schema created for file writing.
    Can any one provide help regarding this.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    When an XML payload is written to a file \n would be used as the default line separator regardless of if its windows or linux, as per the XML specification http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-xml/#sec-line-ends.
    As such, one need not worry about the line separators because, the XML file would eventually be processed by a parser which usually would be able to understand both line endings (as they are whitespace characters as far as the parser is concerned).
    If you want to convert the line terminators (for readability etc), 10.1.3.4 has a new feature - in the XML schema definition for the file adapter payload, add these two top level directives to the schema element:
    xmlns:nxsd="http://xmlns.oracle.com/pcbpel/nxsd"
    nxsd:normalizeLineTerminators="false"
    Regards,
    Shanmu.

    If you are using a recent version of Java (5 or later) you can use Scanner:

    That page has some example code on it, too.

    Anyone knows how to read a CAB File from java. I need to read a property file of txt file that is packaged in CAB file & then based on that, I have to do processing. Is there anyway to do it.
    I had tried using java.util.zip.ZipFile Class, but it does work for JAR, but not for CAB.

    Perhaps there's something in the Cabinet SDK that will help:

  • How to read line number text from PDF using plugin?

    Hi, I would like to know how to read line number text from PDF using plugin?
    Thanks in advance.

    Ok, some background reading of the PDF Reference will help you understand why this is so difficult. PDF files are not organised into lines. It is best to think of each word or character on the page as being a graphic with its own position. The human eye sees lines where a series of graphics (words) are roughly in the same horizontal region.
    In the general case it is difficult or even impossible to answer this. You may have columns with different spacing (but the PDF stores no information on what is a column). You may have subscripts and superscripts. You may have text in graphics coinciding with other text. Commonly, there may be titles, headings or page numbers which are just ordinary text and might count as lines.
    That said, what you need to do is extract the text on the page and its positions. The WordFinder APIs are the way to do that. Now, sort all the words out, using the Y coordinates and size to try and guess what makes a "line". Now you are in a position to find the text (divided into words, not strings) and report the "line number" you have estimated.

    This is my very simple inventory.  On previous program I could sort by those items that did not have any figure in the row across.  Then I could print a report of open inventory.  Such as 149 Lidded Vase has not sales amount in the four colums across, thus it is open inventory.  How can I capture all those items in one report?

    try
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec(cmd);
    catch (Exception e)
    System.err.println(e.toString());
