How to rearrange the sidebar in finder

Ok I know how to show and hide stuff in the finder sidebar through preferences but I'd like to be able to show all my drives at the top of the sidebar and then all the folder shortcuts below that, with different servers etc inbetween, much like SL.
Anyone know how to do this?

You can to a limited extent.
Rather than repeating wahat's been already said see "More like this" on the right.

How to remove the sidebar folders

i would like to know how to remove the sidebar folder under the places section. reason being i have a folder that i previously place it on the sidebar but now i cant click that folder anymore. therefore i want to remove it.

Navigate to Users/username/Library/Preferences and find the file named, "com.apple.sidebarlists.plist" and move it to the trash. Empty the trash. Then restart you computer and the sidebar menu will be cleared of all added aliases. You will have to create them again.
If this doesn't work, launch the Terminal.app in the Applications/Utilities folder.
In the terminal type: (or copy and paste this command) "cd /Library/Preferences" (without the quotation marks) after the promt line and hit return. This will bring you to the directory with the "com.apple.sidebarlists.plist" file.
Then type: "rm com.apple.sidebarlists.plist" (without the quotation marks). This will remove that file.
Then restart you computer and the sidebar menu will be cleared of all added aliases. You will have to create them again.

How can i stop the shortcuts to my external hdd from bein removed from the sidebar in finder

Hi,
I have a 2TB Samsung story station where i download all my movies and tv shows. (got about 200 GB left hahaha)
On the drive there are some folders for the movies, tv shows, music and other content.
In the Finder I drag 'n dropped the folders to the navigation bar (right under downloads, applications and desktop).
But since it's a laptop, i have to take it somewhere and dismount the drive, now the shortcuts are gone. When I mount it again, the shortcuts are still gone.
I thought I could create a shortcut to the folders and put those in my user folder, and drag those to the navigation bar, because they are still on my laptop so I figured they wouldn't be removed. Wrong. This is really starting to **** me off since there are about 5 folders on the drive I want in the navigation bar and since you can't drag 'n drop multiple folders at once into the bar, everytime i reconnect my drive i have to drag them back in there. Is there a way around this?

Right the shortcuts, Apple Speak Alias, can't be in the Sidebar with the drive disconnected.
If you placed a Alias to an folder on your internal drive on the Sidebar then Deleted that folder the Link/Alias/Shortcut would also be taken off the Sidebar as that folder no longer exists.

Acrobat Reader DC on PC: How to deactivate the sidebar/element on the right side forever? (Question/Feedback)

How can I deactivate the sidebar/element on the right side (export, create, edit PDF, more information, comment...) forever? It keeps coming back when I restart Acrobat Reader DC.
If this is not a feature, I strongly suggest to implement that Acrobat Reader saves the last state whether it is shown or not (aka activated or deactivated).

I can understand your concern, however its a part of core user interface in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC & Adobe Acrobat DC. So its not possible to disable it permanently.

How to reset Places sidebar in Finder?

Hi,
Somehow I dragged 500+ pictures references in the "Places" sidebar of my Finder. Is drag and drop the only way to remove them from the sidebar, one by one, or is there a faster way? I looked in the Finder->Preferences->Sidebar menu, but I couldn't find a way to reset the entire sidebar.

I've lost my iDisk icon from the sidebar in Finder! How do I get it back?

I wanted to put the icon into the dock (or at least on my desktop) But when I dragged it over, it disappeared in a cloud and "poof" it was gone!
Later, when I checked under Devices in the Finder, the iDisk is no longer there. *HOW CAN I GET IT BACK?*
As far as I know, I can sync to the iDisk, but without the icon, I can no longer drag-and-drop my files to it.
Anyone have any solutions on how I can return the iDisk icon to the Devices list on the Finder? or at least still be able to drag-and-drop my files to it?

How to compare the datetime to find the latest datatime

Hi,
I have an xml payload with multiple fields for date-time. The datetime is populated as below:
2007-04-06T10:46:47.411-05:04
2007-04-06T10:46:47.410+02:01
2007-04-06T10:46:47.411-03:00
2007-04-06T10:46:47.411+09:03
2007-04-06T10:46:47.411-09:03
Now how do I find out which is the latest datetime. Any help is appreciated.

Use SimpleDateFormat to parse those strings into java.util.Date objects.
Date is Comparable, so stick them into a list or array, sort it, and grab the last one.
Or just walk down the list, using Date's before() or after() method to see it the current element is before/after the next one.

Folders Won't Stay On The Sidebar In Finder Windows

Before I went out of town 2 weeks ago, I had about 20 folders I dragged over to the finder window sidebar and they always stuck.
I get home and they are gone. So I drag them all back over and go out of town this week and shut down the mac. On boot up, I see all the folders that I dragged over to the finder window sidebar are gone yet again? What the heck is going on? Why is it doing that? The only ones there are the basic ones that automatically show up. Can anyone help? Mountain Lion 10.8.5

How to resolve the issue with Finder: "The last time you opened finder, it unexpectedly quit when reopening Windows"

For anyone who is struggling with this issue that simply will not go away, please try:
1. Fist turn off the mac
2. Turn on the mac while holding the shift key (safe mode)
3. Once all logged in click on Finder at the bottom of your screen
4. Click on Go 5 steps to the right of the Apple logo
5. Hold the Alt key and click on Library
6. Open the Preferences folder
7. Drag 'com.apple.Finder.plist' to yourDesktop
7. Restart the mac
That should hopefully resolve it, if not place the plist file on your Desktop back to its original location. Thank you!

Do a backup.
Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

At wits end: I need to reorganize the structure of a table into a new structure - either as a view or actually moving the data from the old structure to the new structure (using a view).
The old structure is:

What this data shows are the percentiles for test scores for different tests for each school who took the tests.
It seems like creating a view to arrange the data through a bunch of selects and unions would work, but I can't figure out how.

Tricky.
When confronted with a problem like this I try to write out an algorthm in pseudocode to work out what I want to do. If you have more than 2 or 3 tables to merge I'd consider going with a new structure; otherwise the view approach might be a good idea. Remember that if you go with a new structure you can insert once and update the other values later, something like

How to rearrange the contents of multiple PST files

Hi,
I have been trying to find a way of moving items within multiple PST files based specific criteria, but as of yet I haven't and was hoping that someone might be able to suggest whether or not it was possible using Powershell, or a third party tool.
The scenario I have is that I've exported numerous user archives to PST file based purely on items that have attachments, unfortunately there are a large number of items that consider the email signatures to be attachments and I need to find a way of moving
these items into a new folder within the PSTs.
I know it's possible to do it individually via Outlook but that isn't practical in this situation. Please can anyone point me in the right direction?

How to rearrange the addressbook template?

I want to change the order of the fields in the Addressbook entries. When I go to the Template tab in the Addressbook Preferences and try to move them it doesn't work. The Addressbook Help files say to "Click field labels to change which fields appear or to change their order." Clicking only brings up a menu to choose to change the name of the field. I've tried using a variety of key combos as well: command+click, ctrl+click, opt+click etc. How DO you reorder the fields?

You are on the right track, but the process is more cumbersome—and much more limited—than you expected. You cannot select and drag the fields or their labels. Instead, you must delete or add field within the bounds of any group already on the template, or of any group you add to it. The boundaries are shown by minus signs on red dots, or these symbols in combination with plus signs on green dots. Groups are separated by blank spaces or lines.
To 'change the order' of the fields you must reorder them by changing the labels of existing records and add or delete additional fields within the groups, choosing appropriate labels for them. You cannot change the order of the groups themselves. Maiden name, for example, will always appear first if enabled. Dates, with the next data label defaulting to anniversary, will always appear beneath the birthday field, if that field is on the template.
Groups [as defined above] appear in the body of a record in this order:
• Maiden Name
• Phone
• Email
• URL
• Birthday
• Dates
• Related names
• Instant Messaging
• Address
Those groups themselves cannot be reordered - only the fields within each group can be reordered by modifying the labels and adding or deleting fields.

you should move you files inside lr, espechially when they allready in you catalog. Othwise you have a lot of missing images.

Is there a way to control the width of Sidebar in Finder (Leopard)?

Each time I open Finder (and there is no difference between different views - Icons, List, Column, Cover Flow!), my *Sidebar with its width takes a good 1/4 of my screen*, so I have to use mouse in order to decrease Sidebar's width!? No mattere I've tried different views, Sidebar takes always mentioned width when I opened it first time. If Sidebar already is opened with "fixed" width, it is OK.
Any suggestions? Could it be "fixed" by using Terminal, or...?

I am puzzled. I just tried the sidebar on finder, adjusted it with the mouse, closed the finder window and it reopened perfectly as to where I "slided" it to with the mouse.
(e.g. if I slide it 3/4 across to the right, having a WIDE sidebar, this is how it reopened, and similarly having e.g. 1/8 width). Unless I misread what you mean?
