going from 6i to 10g is a migration. That's no easy step normally.
client-server-functionality has gone. web-functionality is new.
Install the new webutil-toolset from oracle and use the new file-open-dialog from the webutil.pll. That's the way you work in the new 10g-environment.

How change the File Open With list of apps?

In Bridge CS3, how does one edit the list of applications in the File > Open With menu (also available from the contextual menu for any image).
The list contains a number of applications that I would never use to open an image, and I would like to add to it, a new image editor (pixelmator) that does not appear in it. I have looked in the Bridge Help and the Preferences dialog and don't see any option to do this.

OK, I have now learned that Mac OS keeps the list of which apps to open what, in the "launch services database."
This database can be cleaned up and reset which somewhat simplifies the list that is displayed by the Finder OR by Bridge CS3.

Even after rebuilding the launchdb, I find that a large number of apps are "registered" to open JPG files, including Camino, Opera, TextWrangler and others with only a tenuous connection to JPG. I don't understand why this is, and I would still like to find a way to limit the JPG Open-With list to a few graphics programs. But cleaning up the launchdb as described in the linked pages, did get rid of some programs and added some missing ones.

How to clear "file open" dropdown list?

I have Quicktime installed on my Windows 7 system. When click the "Open File" option I get a dialog box that is a regular Windows "Open a File" box in which I can either select from the directory tree on the left or type an entry directly into the "File Name" area on the bottom. At the right end of that box is a down arrow that, when clicked, shows a dropdown list of past files (apparently that were previously opened in Quicktime). I want to clear that list, but cannot figure out how to do so. I am not talking about the "Open Recent" option. I have tried clearing that, but it has no effect on the list to which I am referring. I have also tried uninstalling and re-installing Quicktime. The list came back. I tried clearing the history in IE, also to no effect. I would appreciate any help anyone can provide. Thanks.

key may be different depending on which version of TestStand you are
using. The only thing that should change is the version

How to set file opening preference in OS 10.5

I have around 1500 Census files which are JPEGS, and they opened nicely with Preview. Today, I loaded most of iLife (iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD and iWeb). Now, for some reason, every one of those files wants to be opened with Adobe Illustrator which is far from optimal for viewing them. Preview is not even recognized now by the operating system as a means of opening JPEGS, and it refuses to open them even though it is open and running.
Is it possible somewhere in the operating system to specify what piece of software has a preference to open a certain type of file? All of those files which once has as their opening preference Preview have now been converted to Adobe Illustrator.

Kappy, that did not work. I did a Google search on the subject and learned about an app called RCDefaultApp. I downloaded that and placed it in my Library file as directed. I then closed System Preferences and reopened it. The app showed up on the far left of the "Other" line of System Preferences.
This let me set default apps for each "extension." Sure enough, Illustrator was set to open jpeg, jpg, JPG, JPEG and PNG files. I changed all of them to Preview. Well, it still didn't work. Even though Preview was open and actually allowing me to view one of these files, it would not let me open another one of them.
About ready to tear my hair out, I decided if all else fails restart the computer. That fixed the problem. It appears the opening preferences got returned to their original values. The files now open with Preview.
Interestingly, when I started installing iLife, there was a warning that I would have to restart my computer when the software was loaded. I omitted GarageBand which I don't need. There was never any alert that the software was loaded and I should restart my computer. So, I didn't. Maybe some corruption crept in as a result.
While at it, I also went into Finder preferences and checked the block under Advanced to show all extensions. Quite a few of those census files had none, and they do now.
Preview is working now and is opening all those files. I also tried two small PNGs which I trashed because they would not open, and they work, too. Happiness!!

How do pdf files open on 5S

Trying to open the Logic Pro X pdf to my 5S, can't do it so far. When I try from the Apple site on the 5S, it crashes the browser. Use to use itunes for this . Any thoughts? Boe.

Update: Just got off the phone with Apple support. They suggested I use other browser apps, tried Chrome and others. Didn't work. Tried Adobe suggestion. Nothing. Tried downloading direct from the Apple manual using the 5S. And tried to figure out why ibooks does not sync. Hey Apple! why is something this simple now so cryptic? I need this manual bigtime!!! The pdf is only 85mb. Why is it crashing these apps, and why no sync-action in ibooks? Browser approach, adobe; useless, back to ibook attempt C'mon Apple, LogicPro is not cheap. Just want to study the manual on my 5S while on the subways. It was so much easier previously with the itunes procedure.

On Windows (don't know about Mac), the latest version will always take over the file association, and become the default for indd files. It's impossible to change it.
But there is a plugin for ID that makes this possible. Never tried it myself.

It's not an apple solution but you can try MailRaider by 45 RPM software. I have not used it personally but it was one of the hits that came up when I did a google search for .msg on Mac.

First off, you CANNOT set recent documents to zero. The absolute minimum it will accept is 1. And on my MacMini, (I just checked it to be 100% sure) I opened seven documents with Recent Docs set to 10 - they were ALL listed. I set it to 1 and all but the most recent cleared. I then closed Reader and reopened it. The list was 1 item. I reset Recent Docs to 10 and there was still only 1 item in the list.

Use File>Open, set Enable to All Readable Documents, then click on your tiff or jpeg and select Camera Raw under Format

No and no, although Adobe themself doesn't seem to have any problems with this -- every single update kills the list (to my chagrin).
Can't imagine any bona fide reason you'd want to. It's not like it's meant as sort of kind of Document organizing feature, as if.
