How to recognize a "new" iPad

I have not seen any physical attribute that makes the third gen iPad look different than the iPad 2.
I am sure the serial number would give it away ... are there any obvious features or markings? Like the placement of buttons or camera

Hmmmm ... .03" is about the thickness of 5 sheets of paper ... well beyond my ability to discern.
I guess I'll have to resort to deciphering the serial number.
Or ... I could just switch it on and be bowled over by the new screen resolution.

Of course I don't recommend taking the iPad into the sauna. I just explained my particular iPad 1 and 2 have survived (and are still working OK!) after always taking them to the sauna with me. (This doesn't necessarily apply to the iPad 3, which I haven't taken into the sauna - I prefer doing the same to the much cheaper iPad 2 instead.) That is, there's no point in being afraid of the iPad 3's heat under normal circumstances (NOT in the sauna!) - it certainly won't blow up. Neither did my previous iPads, not even in the sauna.

Itunes Issue 1st otherwise this will keep happening
go to itunes and in the tool bar menu locate preferences
when you open prefrenece the pop up window should have a tab labled Devices. In here locate a sentenece that says "Prevent iPods, iPads, and iPhones from syning automaticlly" check off the box
then if there is no datat to be lost resrore the device back to its factory settings "select the RESTORE tab" what you wanna do is set up as a new device and not restore from a backup.

Yes you can definitely use the same Apple ID regardless of how many apple devices you have. This way you can install the apps that you have already purchased.
It really does not matter what name your iPad is. You usually rename them under Settings>General>About>Name>
Just a note if you use the same icloud apple id as well, both devices will recieve the imessages and facetime calls.

If you use New iPad in your country, outside US, you are free to choice your country service. Just put your country SIM card to the new iPad only. No any lock in outside of US. How do I sync new ipad to match old ipad

Is there a simple way to have a new IPAD sync in itunes to match the set up of an existing one rather than build it app by app?

To add a little detail.
Plug in the old pad. Transfer any purchases to I tunes. Upload any photos you may have taken on the pad, or uploaded thru the camera connection kit onto where ever you store your pictures.
Then do a back up of the original pad.
Plug the new pad. Into I tunes. Set it up, and select restore from existing backup. It will copy all the stuff from the back up of the original device.
