How to Reconnect Offline Pictures Moved to New Partition

I recently partitioned my C drive and moved My Pictures (not using PE Organizer) to the new partition ("J" Drive) to separate data files from program files.  I now have 25,000 pictures that are offline. How do I reconnect to the folders containing these pictures?

Above mentioned workflow is absolutely correct, but here is some info which will help you in understanding it better through detailed steps - http://bit.ly/Jo9zhc

I want to install my original SnowLeopard (from the installation disc) to a partition I created in the now upgraded Mavericks OSX, How can I install it on the new partition?

    That's easy.
    2 methods:
    1. Change the Startup Disk in System Preferences, then restart:
    2. Hold down the "Option" key while starting or restarting the Mac. Then chosse the partition that you want to startup from.
The 1st mehtod is the quickest, because you don't have the additional step of choosing the drive. Plus, whatever you have selected in System Preferences becomes the default startup drive.

  • How to relink offline pictures in Elements 7?

When I started my Catalog in Album (back in 2001) I have put many pictures offline on CD. Relinking to the original was very simple; just clicking on the pic, loading the CD and the software automatically found the original pic on the CD. In Elements however this feature seems to have disappeared. When I click on one of my offline items a relink screen pops up  in which the software proposes to relink to the... thumbnail! The "browse button' won't help, it cannot find the CD drive location at all. The only possibility is to explore the CD with Windows Explorer, but then there is no relink feature. This is what you call progress!
Does anybody know a workaround. The strange thing is that Elements Still has the functionality to put pic's offline. So how to get 'm back?

I think I now have the right output; pls find below. The strange thing is that PSE seems to  notify my F (CD) drive (see below); However, when I open the "reconnect missing files" screen it only shows my internal (C/D/E) drives.

  • Newbie- How to reconnect "Offline Media" in CS3?

I've been using Premiere for a while (successfully), but always by importing existing QT movies (that I have created using QT pro) No problems at all.
A bit more detail: I'm an animator, so in the past I have been assembling the original frames of my shots (created one at a time) in QT Pro into QT movies...then bringing those into Premiere.
But recently I've imported live action footage from a dv cam, through the Capture window. No problem, the importing worked great, and in the bin it displayed all clips as ".mov" files...
I did some cleaning up of my computer today and although I know Premiere is very fussy about where you store your files, I didn't think I'd done anything serious. But when I opened Premiere for the first time after cleaning up my computer, I'm informed it can't find all of the ".mov" files.
I "Skip All" (just to see the damage to my timeline) and when the project opens, my timeline reads that all the clips are "Media Offline".
How do I reconnect? Or do I have to re-capture? It's not a long piece but still- this seems like a horrible thing to just happen... I need to protect myself for when I've got longer timelines... even this short one represents hours of work...
Do these offline .mov files actually exist somewhere?  If they DO exist, how do I reconnect? Where are they? I've looked through all the obvious Premiere folders I can find, and there's no files to reconnect to...
Finally- how do I avoid this nonsense in the future?! Should I be using Capture in a different way? All I was doing was opening the Capture window, controling the dv camera via the window's controlls, marking in and out points, then capturing... then the .mov would show up in the bin.
Please help, I'd really like to get this little project back in action...
    Thank you very much,
    Chris.

    Chris,
I strongly recommend this site: PrPro-Wiki. Look both in the FAQ and the Tutorials sections. Yes, most will reference things being done on a PC, but with the exception of substituting Command Key for Ctrl, and a name, or two being different, things are covered very well.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Sent e-mails offline when moving to new Mac

    Hello
I recently upgraded to a new MacBook Pro, after my Powerbook started having problems.
One of faults it developed was that the Firewire port no longer worked. So, I couldn't use the Migration application.
After a lot of messing around, I managed to get everything up and running on the new Mac, except for the fact that all my sent messages now bring up the message: "The message from ... concerning “...” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it.
I've seen for this site that it is because of an overstuffed mailbox, and have gone through the steps to try to retrieve them, but to no avail.
The messages are still on the old Mac. What's the best way to get them onto the new Mac (I really need them for reference), and is there a neat archiving system?
Thanks in advance for any help!

    Saul,
This message is the result of an indexing issue, and not from being Offline or the absence of the message data. Open this mailbox and click on Mailbox in the menubar, and choose Rebuild. Wait patiently for Rebuild to finish, and be aware that if you are seeing the list of messages, that list may temporarily disappear, be returning. If only this one mailbox is the problem, then Rebuild will resolve the problem with the index.
I cannot tell how you proceeded to migrate the Mail folder assests, so there may be other problems. In Mail 2.x, there is one index for all mailboxes, and all movement of messages and mailboxes must take place in the Mail application itself to keep the index current. Rebuild will take care of individual mailboxes, but sometimes we must recommend a more global reindexing -- stay in touch and report progress.

  • How can I drag pictures into the new Pages so that they are inline where I release the drag?

Back in the day, like last week, I could drag in a picture and if I was holding command when I let go, the image was inlined exactly where I released.  Now that functionality seems to be gone - or maybe I just don't understand how to access it.

Thank you. That worked. I was able to open 1 window with multiple tabs. Thanks cor-el!

  • How to transfer my pictures to my new iMac (and keep edits)?...

I just got a new iMac, and want to transfer all the photos from my old iMac. (I do not want to use Migration Assistant).
I have Aperture 2 (not the most recent version). Of course, I could export all of my photos and copy them over like any other files. But that wouldn't keep all of the edits I've made to many of the photos in Aperture.
What is the proper way to transfer everything over so that I have all of it, along with the current edits I see when I look at the photos in Aperture on my old iMac? If you can help, please be very specific as I'm no expert when it comes to Aperture.
    Thanks!

If you have a Managed Library:
Copy the Aperture Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Mac to the same location on the New Mac. Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch Aperture. Select your Library as the one to open. Done.
Somewhat more complicated if you have a Referenced Library, do you?

  • Adding a new partition in free space wipes all others?

geez, I hate writing a question when I think I've already found the answer!!
But in this case, the answer's so baad, I thought I'd run it by you all before I hit "desperation" mode! Here goes...
I've got a USB 1TB external that I back up on to. It's in 4 partitions (audio, video, system, archives). The 4 partions are using about 750 Gb total, with 250 Gb free. I wanted to resize the "system" partition, as it was getting pretty full. I found some instructions about; (1.) creating a new, fifth, empty partition out of that 250Gb free space then (2.) "merging" the new partition and the system partition, resulting in a single larger partion for system backups. All other partitions *should* have been left untouched.
I was a bit wary of it all, but Disk Utility's Help says, "You may be able to create multiple partitions on your disk without losing any data" and then goes on to tell me how to, using the + sign, create a  new partition out of the 250Gb of free space.
I followed the instructions to the letter but, after "Applying", it did create the new fifth partition, *BUT IT WIPED ALL OF THE DATA OFF OF THE OTHER FOUR PARTITIONS!!*
I'm in major panic mode, did a bit of searching and, on Indiana Univ. help page, found:
"Warning: ...when changing the partition scheme in Mac OS X 10.5 and later, partitioning your hard drive with Disk Utility erases all the information on the drive."
As I see it, a direct conflict to what Apple claims in Disk Utility's Help.
So, I'm about to pull out and upgrade my data recovery programs - - will just try and get the pix and tunes back, I guess.
But if anyone has any idea how I can "undo" what's been done, it sure would help!!
    many thanks in advance,
    b myers

I'm not sure what you did exactly, but having done it you cannot undo it.   You may yet be able  to recover files from the drive using recovery software:
    Basics of File Recovery
    Files in Trash
If you simply put files in the Trash you can restore them by opening the Trash (left-click on the Trash icon) and drag the files from the Trash to your Desktop or other desired location.  OS X also provides a short-cut to undo the last item moved to the Trash -press COMMAND-Z.
If you empty the Trash the files are gone. If a program does an immediate delete rather than moving files to the Trash, then the files are gone.  Recovery is possible but you must not allow any additional writes to the hard drive - shut it down. When files are deleted only the directory entries, not the files themselves, is modified. The space occupied by the files has been returned to the system as available for storage, but the files are still on the drive. Writing to the drive will then eventually overwrite the space once occupied by the deleted files in which case the files are lost permanently. Also if you save a file over an existing file of the same name, then the old file is overwritten and cannot be recovered.
    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro.  Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.  Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk.  Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.
Also visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on Data Recovery.
    For future reference:
To resize the drive do the following:
    1. Open Disk Utility and select the drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list.
    2. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window. You should see the graphical sizing window showing the existing partitions. A portion may appear as a blue rectangle representing the used space on a partition.
    3. In the lower right corner of the sizing rectangle for each partition is a resizing gadget. Select it with the mouse and move the bottom of the rectangle upwards until you have reduced the existing partition enough to create the desired new volume's size. The space below the resized partition will appear gray. Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.  (Note: You can only make a partition smaller in order to create new free space.)
    4. Click on the [+] button below the sizing window to add a new partition in the gray space you freed up. Give the new volume a name, if you wish, then click on the Apply button. Wait until the process has completed.
You should now have a new volume on the drive.

I just purchased a mac air and cannot figure out how to get my pictures from my toshiba windows to the air into iphoto and I also cannot get my library of music and apps to get to the mac air as well.  Each time I try to synch it tells me it will repace my ipad and iphone with the blank library from the new air.  How do I get my music, apps and photos to the air.  I just subscribed to imatch and it charged me and only has 600 of my 2,000 songs!

You must move your photos and music from your Toshiba to your MBA directly, not using the iPhone. The Migration Assistant app on your Mac will help.

  • How does FCE reconnect offline files?

Can someone explain the mechanism that Final Cut uses to reconnect offline files? If I understood the process, possibly I might be able to solve the following problem:
I have a project with many offline files. They happen to be all of the still photos whose source is an iPhoto Library. In the timeline (where all the offline files are shown in red), a right click reveals the correct name of each file, however, FCE is unable to reconnect.
If I try to reconnect, there is no indication of any Offline Files in the Reconnect Window. If I select the Search button and navigate to the location of the missing files, all of the file names are grayed out.
How is it that FCE knows the name of the offline files but not their location nor is able to reconnect with either the Locate or Search functions?

"When you navigate to the file names can you hit the All Files in the SHOW sub-menu?"
Yes, I can select All Files, which allows me to select and reconnect a single file. If I select more than one file, nothing happens. I have many files to reconnect. Doing them one at a time is not practical.
In the past, I have been able to reconnect multiple files, simultaneously. Of course, those files were also listed in the Reconnect Files window. This time they are not.
Regarding changing the file path, in the past I have moved the location of source files and after launching FCE, it seems to know immediately where they are. So, apparently that is not the problem.
For the record, this project has many Bins, each containing a sequence, many video clips and still photos. This is the only bin that has a problem and it is only with the still photos in that bin and sequence. One more bit of info that may or not be meaningful: This particular bin was temporarily misplaced within another bin. For some time, I thought that it was lost. When I finally discovered it, I moved it to its proper location and it was then that I discovered the offline files problem.

My laptop crashed so I bought a new computer and iTunes says if I sync my pictures they'll be replaced with what's on the new computer. There are no pictures on the new computer.  So how do I get them off my phone and not lose them too?

  • How do I import an iPhoto Library  (V.7.1.5) created on my old MacBook (10. 6.8) into my new Macbook pro (10.9.1) running iPhoto 9.5.1? I tried copying onto memory stick and moving to new mac, but new iPhoto doesn't recognise the library.

How do I import an iPhoto Library  (V.7.1.5) created on my old MacBook (10. 6.8) into my new Macbook pro (10.9.1) running iPhoto 9.5.1? I tried copying onto memory stick and moving to new mac, but new iPhoto doesn't recognise the library.

So what exactly did you copy over? If it's a 12 gig iPhoto Library then it sounds like the files are there. Perhaps the copy went wrong along the way.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

How do I move pictures from old iphone to new iphone

If you want to transfer your camera roll photos, along with text messages and other data and settings from your old phone to your new one, back up the old phone then restore the backup to your new one (see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2109).  If you only want to transfer the photos, import them from your old phone to your computer as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083, then put them in a folder and sync them to your new phone by selecting the folder on the Photos tab of your iTunes sync settings and syncing.  (Be aware that photos synced to your phone using iTunes can only be deleted later by syncing them off again.  They can't be deleted directly on the phone.)
