How to record an interactive tutorial with a permanent hint button?

Hello,
I'd like to record a tutorial which would make a user do something requiring a few clicks and I'd like a hint button to be permanently displayed and when the user clicks it it will give the answer. For example I'd like to write a caption: "Now your turn, please save this document as a new document in the Invoices folder". I'd like the user to be bale to click as many times as he wants but the hint button should be displayed permanently and if the user wishes to click it it will display the answer for example: " Click: File", "Click Save as", etc.
I've tried to set up a tutorial but it only showed the hint when the user actually clicked the right button which missed the point.
I would appreciate if someone could help and let me know how to set it up or direct to an appropriate help link.

Do you mean that the default hint caption is not what you want? I could explain a way to do it, but it will mean a lot of extra work. First tell me which version (exact number please) of Captivate you are using? How much experience do you have with advanced (shared) actions and variables? Does it have to be a 'click' button or is a rollover caption also possible?
The idea is to show a text container that has a variable, when clicking or rolling over the button (I would prefer a shape button for several reasons). The variable could be populated when entering each slide with the proper text. With this approach timing for the rest of the project is possible both for the button and for the text container.
If you'd do it with a different button on each slide, and a different text container, you'll end up with a lot of objects to be maintained (and a bigger filesize), in that case I would recommend shared actions for sure.

Thanks handar. As per your instructions I have tried OAM authorization policy and its working fine. But we also wants to check the same with OES also. Currently I have configure weblogic SM and created domain. In same domain I have deployed my application also. I have created application, resources and authorization policy to authorize /myfolder/index.jsp if user has some specific role. Now if I try to access my web application using http://host:8001/CONTEXT/myfolder/index.jsp, it doesn't check if user is authorized or not. I guess my application is not related to the resource I have created. Please help me with this. Also, let me know if we can retirive logged in user from session and use for authorization.

How to do an interactive form with tables

I've been asked to recreate an interactive form that was created using several tables. The tables are made up of cells that contain labels of what information is required, followed by blank cells where the user can put the information (text fields). A few of the cells are to contain drop down menus that will contain a list of answers to choose from (combo boxes). I kind of like the idea of doing it in a table just because it keeps everything lined up automatically.
I am a Lynda.com subscriber, and I found a course on that site that shows how to create interactive forms with InDesign, but it just breezes past doing it with tables. It says you can do it, but doesn't show how. The problem is, one table can contain all three types of cells that I plan to use. I can select the whole table and then choose "Type" in the Buttons and Forms panel, but I would think that would turn the whole table into just one type of field. I can't seem to figure out how to select individual cells of the table to choose different types.
Is there a way to do that?

This is work around
1- Draw a rectangle frame, and without release mouse use up and right arrow key to define rows and columns count and use Ctrld+ down arrow key to reduce space between rows and Ctrl+left arrow key to reduce space between column.
2- Covert frames to Buttons.

There are a number of issues here. A form that you created with LiveCycle Designer (XFA) cannot be used with FormsCentral. An Acroform, the kind you can create with Acrobat, can be used with FormsCentral, with certain limitations, one of which is skip logic. A dynamic XFA form allows for this type of thing, but as mentioned, they don't work with FormsCentral. You can set up an Acroform to show/hide or activate/inactivate fields based on selections or entries made in other fields, but you'd have to set this up in Acrobat, not FormsCentral. So you can set up something roughly equivalent to a web form's skip logic, but you'd have to learn how to do this in Acrobat using JavaScript. There is a separate Acrobat JavaScript forum here if you have any questions.

I am trying to create an interactive magazine with CS3 and don't know how to do it. First of all, is this possible with CS3 or do I need to upgrade to CS4? And if it is possible, can anyone tell me a step by step plan to follow? Or is there a book or download I can get for more information which is recommended?

You can make digital newsletters for PDF in CS3 or 4. To make a digital newsletter that can be viewed in a browser (export to swf) you need CS4. Big advantage of swf is much smaller file size than PDF.
One free bit of advice: design your file horizontally (11 w x 8.5h) since that works best for reading a PDF or swf online.

How to record in dual-mono with 2 channel audio interface?

I'm using an iPad 3 with an ART 2-channel usb/mixer interace. I use the Camera app for video recording and the audio is routed thru the interface. Works fine except that I can't seem to figure out how to change the default setting of the iPad/Camera app so that it will record the audio in dual mono. Right now it only records in stereo, with the 2 channels panned hard left and right. Recording vocal and guitar with the dedicated 2 mics/channels makes for a very wide and un-natural stereo image.
Can Apple or someone help me figure this out?

I could be wrong, but I don't believe the Camera app offers a dual-mono option. You'll probably need to look for another app, perhaps a third-party app, that can do this.

How to create a software tutorial with iMovie

Hi all,
I need to create a video tutorial on OpenOffice for college students, and I wonder how to do it with iMovie. What I need is to show a continuous screen shot of what I need to do to perform some action in OO while voicing over the explanation, e.g. the viewer should see how the screen changes and which commands I use and hear my voice too.

I use Snapz Pro X but there are other screen capture application out there if you prefer something different. The basic work flow is to capture what is taking place on your display screen as your are working in the application. You could capture you voiceovers and system audio at the same time, but I prefer to do the voiceovers later in case of mistakes (and I make more than my share). I then save the screen capture(s) to an iMovie '08 edit compatible compression format (I usually use AIC/AIFF) and import it into the application for editing, titles, and/or transitions as needed. I then output the project to AIC/AIFF and open it in GarageBand for adding the voiceover narrative track, blending with any other audio, and/or adding of a chapter track if desired. When finished, I export the completed file to whatever distribution format seems best. As most of my tutorials are "quickies" made in response to questions here or from the local Apple User Group, I am less interested in response time than formal "quality control."

i'm starting to program with JavaTV and JMF. Now my Question is, how can i record a DVB-S Stream (DVB-Card: Haupauge Nexus) to my hdd?

MHP uses JMF 1.0, which does not include recording functionality. If you want to do this in Java then JMF 2.x includes recording support, but I'm not sure whether there is a JMF implementaiton that supports the Hauppage cards.

How many records can be displayed with fm REUSE_ALV_LIST_DISPLAY?

Now here's is my problem. I've been trying to display in a program wih fm REUSE_ALV_LIST_DISPLAY, aproximately 450,000 records. But the fact is that after 10 or 15 minutes the system stops the process.
This case is not the same when I display with the same function a very low number of lines.
What can I do?
Maybe one possibility is using the method for ALV List (ALV List Objects)

Hi,
If you are not expecting to do any additional functionality that the ALV has, like, summing, sorting, filter...etc,
better display the result in a normal LIST.
or try to filter your results and in the selection screen, give an option to enter the number records you want to display in the report.

I need to create an interactive magazine that includes user comments and votes (like/unlike).
I know that I can create digital swf magazines in indesign and that user comments and like/unlike buttons can be entered with coding in adobe dreamweaver.
I need this for a school project and I do not know if it's possible or if there is another way of doing it in dreamweaver...

The easiest way to do like/unlike voting is use facebook´s like/unlike button generator at http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like/ to create a code. You can set up the appearance and some features of your button and you will end up having an iFrame code. You can add that code into your html-wrapper file with some regular texteditor like wordPad....
Here´s one example, it´s an InDesign SWF finalized with eDocker but I don´t see any reason why you couldn´t use the SWF exported directly from InDesign as well. If you want to put it to some specific location, you have to wrap it up into a div and set up some css for that div, but it´s not a rocket science either.....=)

How to record on iPhone 4 with external microphone?

I got a GoPro for christmas and my main intentions were to use it with my car. In this case, sound is very important and unfortunately, the GoPro does not record too good of audio.
My question is: What steps will I have to take to utilize an external mic with my iPhone and more importantly record it? I have looked on the app store for apps, but I am afraid that it wont record or recognize the sound coming from the external mic. I am wary of "voice recorders" because I know some try to implement technology such as noise cancellation that would skew my end product. I just want raw sound.
Additionaly, what adapters if any will be required?

I just found this topic which seems to be related to my problem.
Firstly, I do not own an iPhone 4 like you but a 3Gs (doesn't really matter I guess).

My wish is to make phone calls using a microphone connected to my computer. I have some kind of a home-studio, and I would like to build a dock on which I could plug my iPhone, with the upper jack connected to my soundcard, on which my mic or my computer sound comes.
In simpler terms, I'm trying to use an external audio source than my iphone microphone during calls. But this adapter i bought doesn't seem to work.
Have you guys a piece of advice or any solution ? Maybe just some compassion sharing the same problem =)
