How to record on GarageBand with a mixer

So hey,
after I've solved my problem with how to connect my mixer to my mac, there's another problem that came out.
I'm trying to record on GarageBand and when I do the first track all seem good. But then if I try to record to a second track it automatically records all the previous tracks as well. I have the output of the mixer to my external usb sound card's input and vice versa and on the mixers phones I have my speakers plugged in. Is something wrong with the connections I've made? Any help would be good! Thanx!
The mixer: Behringer Xenyx 802
The mac: MacBook (new)
The sound card: Hama C-media USB Audio Devise
The speakers: Logitech z323

Because the vocals are being recorded as a real instrument you wont be able to record it and drag the track to in a way extend the sound as you can with other tracks. Other tracks you can as they are already installed in the garageband database. If you want a longer real track then the only eway is to play or sing for a longer amount of time.

  • How to Record a Interview with Multi tracks using Adobe Audition CC

    Hi,
I would like to record a Skype Interview call using Adobe Audition CC.
I am able to get Track 1 to reconize my voice, but I can't figure out how to get Track 2 to pick up the other person's voice I am interviewing through the Skype Call. I am using Skype's call recording as a back up, however, I hear the call quality is better if it goes straight into Adutiton.
I am sure it has something to do with the input and output, but just ahve no idea where to start.

  • How to record MBP Retina with External Capture Card?

I want to record games on my Mac, such as Minecraft and Amnesia, with my Avermedia Live Gamer Portable (in order to reduce the lag I get with using Quicktime), but whenever I try to it will not let me record. I have been told that this is because there is HDCP on the HDMI port on the MBP Retina. So I was wondering if anyone knows how to get around this?
Any help would be much appreciated!

    Hi there,
If I'm not mistaken, I think you need to have the power cable in for clamshell mode to work.
If you make sure the power is in you should be able to wake the MBP up from sleep mode with it shut and plugged into another display.

  • How to record screen video with sound but not playing while its recording

Hi, I'm trying to figure out a smart way to record some video lectures using my computer. I note that the Quicktime player is able to do that, but it confines your screen to a certain size so anything that falls into that screen capture zone will be recorded which is fine as i get a separate monitor soon so i can just chuck it one side to record while I'm doing other work.
But what im still trying to figure out is how the sound can also be simultaneously recorded by the software (be it Quicktime or not) and yet not be playing out loud on the speakers so i can do my work and not get distracted by that.
Any line-in or some clever way to do that?
Windows options also possible using parallels if anyone has a solution

    Hey Jeffrey,
The easy solution to this is through the utilization of SoundFlower (Completely free).
Here are two tutorials that will guide you through the process of capturing your System's Sound as well as recording whatever is playing on the screen:

  • How to export a table with a mixed case name using EXP untility

i'm trying to export a table which has a name with mixed upper and lower case. The command i'm trying is

I presume its saying the table doesnt exist because its looking for MYTABLENAME rather than MyTableName and doing this because its ignoring the double quotes. Any ideas?

Or, let the export prompt you for the table name:

  • How to record guitar direct with M-Audio Fast Track?

My brand new M-Audio Fast Track MkII is installed with drivers loaded. (The Mac is restarted.) In GarageBand, under Input Source, I see Mono 1 and Mono 2, further down I see Stereo 1/2. Should I not see an option for the M-Audio?
    Suggestions?
    Thank you-

For monitoring you need to select the output in garageband preferences. If you're monitoring from the fast track choose that if you're monitoring from the mac choose built in.
I think the guitar is channel 2 on fast track so choose mono 2. Make sure monitoring is turned on.

  • Recording on garageband with an external hard drive?

Hey guys I heard someone mention something about recording onto an external hard drive, can someone explain everything I need to know about this? including the benefits, reasons for, and cons of doing it? I'm pretty confused about it all
    Thanks a lot.
    Btw, I have a laCie 500gb drive

    BMF92 wrote:

assuming it's a fast (7200 rpm drive in a FireWire case), it may allow you to record more audio tracks. laptops, for instance, typically have slow (5400 RPM) drives, reducing the useable bandwidth. even a fast drive in a desktop could get bogged down by other processes.

    you have to buy something.
i'll add an implied "how do i use it?"
create a project on, or move a project to, that drive, that's it.

  • How to record to DVD with "EP" setting

When I record directly off TV to a DVD commercial (Panasonic) DVD burner, I can choose a setting that basically allows a 120 minute, 4.7GB DVD+RW to record 6 hours of programming. I have been all thru iDVD (08) and Disk Utility and can't find a comparable setting or option. Any help much appreciated, thx.

Actually, after a little recon, I might have found an alternative: if you want to use your Panasonic DVD recorder as your record device (recording long segments at six hour speed) you can. Then you can follow the directions assembled here:
    http://www.sjoki.uta.fi/%7Eshmhav/SVCDon_a_Macintosh.html#edit_convertMPEG
You can then take your resulting files, edit them in iMovie as Quicktimes (QTs) or drag them into iDVD as QTs and make menus, etc. and export/make a DVD. However, I'm not sure if this will work or not, as iDVD might have compression limitations (ie., it won't compress the files to fit on anything less than two hours) Also, note you will be uncompressing and recompressing already severely compressed video. Your results will more than likely be very poor video.

  • How to record video with a watermark logo in Adobe AIR app?

I would like to develop an app in Adobe AIR. The requirement is that video recording with a custom watermark logo on top left. Anyone have any idea, how to record a video with custom watermark?
Please suggest some code or any reference, it would be helpful for all who is looking video recording.
    Thanks!

Yeah I'm developing video recording ANE. It allows you to record the whole AIR stage, including anything you've got there (video, movieclips on top, Stage3D or whatever): http://rainbowcreatures.com/product_flashywrappers.php
There's an online demo for Flash Player on the website, beven it's not as good as the AIR ones because Flash Player encoder is really slow by not being able to use native code or HW acceleration. But it shows the layering on top of video.
If you want to make something like this yourself, you'd need to go the native extensions route.

  • How could I recorder my screen with Quick k time 7 pro with  OS X 10.8

How could recorder Mac Screen with quick time 7 pro?

QuickTime 7 does not exist in Mountain Lion. Not sure if you could even install it from the stand-alone installer. I can't look at the moment, but I believe QuickTime X in ML will do a screen capture.
Just to note: If you had Quicktime Pro 7 installed when upgrading to either Lion or Mountain Lion, it was relocated to the Utilities folder. It can also be downloaded and installed in Mountain Lion, and it does function.
It will also do screen recordings, but as others have pointed out Quicktime Player 10 will do it too.

  • How to record a simple sidebar video as in Adobe Presenter 7

In Adobe Presenter 9, how to record a video with my webcam to put as a sidebar video for one slide ?
In Presenter 7 we could do that easily.  Now with the new video editer we can make great videos and capture the screen.  But that's not what need...
How to do a simple sidebar video without capturing the screen...
Look at the point 4 on this website: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Presenter/7.0/WS56318F3C-65A7-477b-8CAA-2CBF0902BA5B.html
    3-...Capture video...
4-...then select... ...sidebar video to record video for the Presenter image area.
It was easy in Presenter 7 !!!!!!!!!!!
    Thanks

When you use the video recording feature in Presenter 8+, it does record a stand alone WMV of your webcam. While the workflow isn't as clean as before, it can be inserted back in just as a sidebar video, without the background screen capture. Here is how you can do it:
Use the Presenter Video Creator to record your video. Disregard that your screen is being captured, you won't use it.
After you record your video, Save your project. Don't publish it, as the published output is useless to you.
Back in Presenter, choose to Insert Video.
Browse to your webcam capture (My Documents > My Adobe Presenter Video Projects > {What ever you named the capture} > mt). Should be named something like presenter_video1.wmv
Presenter will convert it to FLV, you can select the quality and location, slide or sidebar, as in previous versions of Presenter.
If desired, you can use a 3rd part video conversion tool to convert the WMV video, but that may not be necessary.

  • I record multiple tracks (3-5) from real instruments and vocals. I want to send these files to a collaborator to add more tracks to, but Garageband wants to mix these down (which I don't want). How can I send the multiple tracks files to my friend?

I record multiple tracks of real instruments and vocals wth Garage Band. I want to share the file with a collaborator so he can add another instrument or two. I have not found a way to do this without the process mixing down the tracks. I don't want them mixed down like when I send them to Itunes. Also I can't seem to just attach a file directly to an email for sending purposes. I thought I saw a method to do this with software instruments, but how do you do it with real instruments? I've tried every process on the "export" list to try to accomplish this, without success. Thanks for any breakthrough advice on this!

As isteveus said - for large projects uploading to a server would be best.
Also I can't seem to just attach a file directly to an email for sending purposes.
But for completeness's sake , you cou can mail a project, if you ctrl-click the project and use "Compress xxx.band". This will compress the project and create a zip file, that you can mail (if it is not too large). But ask your friend for the maximal file size allowed as a mail attachment.
But whichever method you use to share your project, be sure you include all loops and instruments, if your friend does not have the same JamPacks installed. You can bundle the loops into the project by saving it as an archive. "File > Save as" and check the "Archive Project" option.
If this option should be disabled, you can force it to become active by editing your project slightly. It is only available, if the project needs saving.
