How to record video via built in isight in Tiger

Hi,
A friend of mine wants to record video on his Intel MacBook but is only running Tiger.
Is this possible and if so, what’s the best app to do it in?
NB He is a novice user.

My opinion of "best" for novice is QuickTime Pro: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/pro/
Some other possibilities follow:
 • iMovie (iM v6 or later for built-in iSight): http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3095
   ( Tiger 10.4.4 or later recommended: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2675 )
 • iCamShare: http://www.arborbits.com/icamshare/
 • Webcam Tweaker: http://www.tweakersoft.com/webcamtweaker.html
 • Some other apps that can capture movie or video clips listed on this page can work with Tiger:

  • Record video with built in iSight?

My friend just got a new MacBook and we can't figure out if you can record video with the built in iSight. I know you can take pictures with Photo Booth, and from my research you can record video with the external iSight through iMovie. I figured you woud be able to do the same with the built in iSight, but when I open iMovie, it does not detect a camera. Can you not record video with the built in iSight or am I doing something wrong?
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4)

When you open iMovie look at the switch under the screen. You will see a camera on the left of the switch and scissors on left. Flip the switch to the camera and the built in camera should come on. Then on the screen it will say record with isight. That starts the record.

  • Recording Video from Built In iSight

Is there a way to record video from the built in iSight that comes in the G5 iMacs?

    You are very welcome!

  • How can I use the built-in Isight camera with an external camera (usb/firewire) at the same time?

How can I use the built-in Isight camera and an external video camera at the same time?
I'm wanting to stream over Oovoo/Skype/etc. using 2 cameras.
    Thanks

Simple question with a not so simple answer.
    (a) If you mean that you want to run multiple apps simultaneously using a different camera with each app, you may encounter computing power limitations.  Digital video is processor intensive.  The only way to know if your Mac can do this it to try it.  If the video does not work together but each app works when it it the only app running, you are likely overloading your Mac's ability to process and/or move all the required data in your data bus.  You can get a better indication of whether this is the case by watching your Activity Monitor utility while running the apps you want to use.
    (b) If you mean that you want to have more than one compatible camera connected to your Mac simultaneously for ease of changing between video sources, some, but not necessarily all, apps you are using to operate your camera(s) allow you to select between your cameras.
How you select among connected cameras depends on which application you are using. Here is how camera selection works in a few examples:
    (1) For iChat, you can choose which iSight you use in the "Camera:" choices bar in iChat > Preferences... > Audio/Video that appears when more than one compatible camera is connected. Although your camera choices will be different, the choices bar will look something similar to the Preferences settings shown here:
If you cannot see the "Camera" choices bar, your Mac is recognizing only one (or none) of your cameras. In that case, consider the suggestions fromhttp://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 for iSight problems or refer to your other camera's documentation for help.
This particular choices bar solution applies ONLY to iChat. Most other applications also have settings that allow you to choose which camera to use. However, they do not all work the same way.
    (2) For instance, iMovie HD's camera choice is NOT set via Preferences. When you have more than one compatible camera connected, iMovie6 HD uses a drop-down menu choice something like this (depending on which version of iMovie you use):
Note: Because I had no built-in iSight connected when I made this example, and because my external iSight was not connected, the drop-down menu showed only "Time Lapse." Because your Mac has a built-in iSight, your built-in iSight would show in the drop-down menu even when no other camera is connected. Connecting an additional Mac compatible webcam should allow you to choose either camera.
Other iMovie versions work slightly differently.
iMovie 9 (from iLife '11) uses a different camera choice button shown in this article:
      http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iMovie/9.0/en/mov39f84285.html
iMovie 8 (from iLife '09) is slightly different as explained in this article:
      http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iMovie/8.0/en/10172.html
In general, you can use your Mac's help for the application in use to find out how to select among more than one connected camera.
    (3) Photo Booth in Snow Leopard 10.6.x and later uses the Photo Booth > Camera menu command to select which camera to use.
Note for readers with older Mac OS X: The previous version of Photo Booth that came with Tiger (10.4.x) is such a simple, basic app that it offers no menu selectable choice. Unless your built-in iSight is already occupied as the camera being used by some open application before you launch Photo Booth, Photo Booth will use ONLY your built-in iSight.
However, you can use the trick from ¶ 4 of http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302781 to let Photo Booth use an external camera.
(If you have an external Firewire camera connected, it may be used in preference to any USB webcam. If that is a problem for you, merely disconnect the problem Firewire device.)
    (4) For FaceTime, launch the app and click the Video menu item.
If your Mac recognizes more than one connected compatible camera, a "Camera" section listing the cameras from which you can choose will appear there. Clicking on the desired camera name will let you select the one you want as shown in this image from my Mac Pro and LED Cinema Display:
If your Mac recognizes only one compatible camera, the "Camera" section will not appear in the Video menu, but FaceTime will automatically use the connected camera that is recognized by OS X.
    (5) I do not use Skype oir Oovoo.  For those or other apps, see Help for each app for info on how to select your desired camera.

  • Imac g5 not capturing video with built-in isight...

Hello Cody. I don't think RJ's suggestion will help you with this one.
in imovie hd (iLife 05). anyone ever run into this issue?Everybody does. According to Apple, the iSight built into an iMac G5 (iSight) is not able to capture video into iMovie.
See the "How can I get my built-in iSight to capture iMovie video clips?" section of Built-in iSight ( Late 2005 -> ) for more info and a workaround.

  • Software for recording video with built in i-sight for new macbooks mbp?

Does any software exist that will allow a macbook or a macbook pro user to record video with their built in isight camera at the top of the screen? If so, let me know. I need to document countless hours of reading the forums...

iMovie will allow you to record from your built in iSight as well.
Lastly, Conference Recorder will allow you to record iChat video conversations. It can be found here: http://www.ecamm.com/mac/conferencerecorder/

  • Video recording from my built-In iSight is horizontally flipped.

I am trying to record a short clip and via Quictime X using my built-in iSight and am noticing that even whilst it's not recording just before I press the record button, the image is flipped horizontally. If I shift my head to the left, it shows that I'm shifting it to the right. I can't figure out if there's a setting I should check or if this is normal or maybe I found a bug unless there is a poltergeist in the room. hehe...
Thanks in advance for your help.

My built-in iSight camera is working but the "capture" button is greyed out and I can't record.

  • Usb video class video vs built-in isight with adobe flash player

to get the built-in isight to work on the mac, one chooses usb video class video.
is it the same for linux?

is it different for different browsers?

    (1) Built-in iSight is ALWAYS a UVC device and external iSight is ALWAYS an IIDC device.
I do not see how any software, whether OS or browser, could change those facts.
However, I do not use Linux. Because you are concerned about using Flash for Linux,
it seems to me you need to find the correct version of Flash for the version of Linux you use:
      http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/
When you have the correct version of Flash, you can check Flash Help for specifics:
      http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/index.html
    (2) Unless you get the specific answer you need here or in your Linux system documentation,
also check the documentation or support pages from the supplier of the Linux you use.
    (3) Alternatively, you can search or post your question in a discussions forum dedicated
    to your version of Linux.

  • Video from built-in ISight camera to FC???

    Greetings.
Has anyone ever recorded a video from a 24" LED Apple display using the built-in ISight video camera and then import that into FC?
What I did seems to work, but the sequence has to be rendered.
Here's what I did. Record video from Isight. The QT properties of this video are h.264, 640x480 14.15 FPS (Never saw this before).
Converted that file in compressor to Pro Res 422. The next steps are the ones I'm unsure of, which is the sequence settings. In sequence settings I set the frame size to 640x480, Pixel Aspect to NTSC, field Dom to upper.
The weird part is the frame rate of the original, 14.15.
Either way, what would be the best way to import/convert isight video to something usable in a preferably Pro Res timeline.
    Thanks.
    JL

    Hi Tom,
Thanks for that. I think I must have done HD because the original video file was 4.5MB. After converting to Pro Res 422, that file was over 200MB!
I didn't know there were SD (DV?) Pro Res presets.
So after I do this, will this just drop nicely into an HDV timeline and I won't get a red render bar? I realize the frame size is different.
    Thanks.

  • How to record video or use screen capture WHILE capturing audio from Logic??

    Hi,
I want to record my self playing guitar and singing using my mac book pro built in camera. I want the audio to come from Logic so I can add whatever effects I want to the vocals. When I say audio from Logic I don't mean recording in Logic and adding it in post. I want it to be on the fly.
What I used to do was use the screen capturing program Snapz Pro. I would screen capture a box around photobooth for the video, and then record while having Logic's audio in the background. It screen captures my entire computers audio. So for example if I get an aim message the bleep would show up in the recording. Or if I raise the volume or lower it the little click sound fx would be in it as well.
Capturing the audio this way let me get Logic's audio effects in my video on the fly. It worked out great....until now! :/
I just got the audio interface "Duet 2". And am using a microphone instead of my mbp's built in one. When ever I tried to record and capture my systems audio - my entire computer would crash. Snapz Pro won't work with the system audio with the interface. It works fine without it though.
I then tried to use Quicktime's new movie recording feature. I see it only gives an option for microphone and now system audio. So I got soundflower to re route the audio but that doesn't help either. This is because when you capture this way you can't hear anything while your capturing. So if I were to record a video and wanted Logics audio in it, I would have to set the output to Soundflower first. So when I record I cant hear myself which defeats the purpose.
So my final question is, how can I record video while having Logic's audio? I don't need to record with the mic, because in Logic the mic audio is going thru the system audio with everything else.
I would like to use a process more similiar to Quicktimes straight movie recording instead of doing an odd way like I used to screen capturing a box around the photobooth screen.
    Thanks

    use Yawcam from Yawcam.com

  • How to record video with a watermark logo in Adobe AIR app?

I would like to develop an app in Adobe AIR. The requirement is that video recording with a custom watermark logo on top left. Anyone have any idea, how to record a video with custom watermark?
Please suggest some code or any reference, it would be helpful for all who is looking video recording.
    Thanks!

Yeah I'm developing video recording ANE. It allows you to record the whole AIR stage, including anything you've got there (video, movieclips on top, Stage3D or whatever): http://rainbowcreatures.com/product_flashywrappers.php
There's an online demo for Flash Player on the website, beven it's not as good as the AIR ones because Flash Player encoder is really slow by not being able to use native code or HW acceleration. But it shows the layering on top of video.
If you want to make something like this yourself, you'd need to go the native extensions route.

    Any ideas?

You need Quick Time Pro to record video. QT Player does not allow this.
