How to Recover a bad DVD made with  DVD v7? Streamclip?

I have a several copies of a DVD made from a iMovie(8.04) & i DVD(7.04) that will not play. They either freeze in middle, or at the first menu, or show that they are skipping over damaged sections. I don't have the original iMovie files or video clips. I tried copying tje DVD with Disk Utility to a DVD/CD master. It failed with input output errors. I tried copying with Toast and disk recovery on it copied but copied disk will not mount in player. It was suggested to try Streamclip, I got Streamclip and opened the VOB files fine and they play perfectly, then I tried to export them to Quicktime, DV,MPEG and AVI..so I could bring them back into iMovie and then to iDVD again....no matter what I choose as "export to" Streamclip says it cannot create the file. What am I missing here. Do I need some add on to Streamclip? Is there a better way?

Not 100% certain if anything will help your particular situation. However, it's possible you may also need apple's MPEG2 Playback component (that or an update).

Another option might be to use DVDXDV (try it for free):

  • Duplicating DVDs made with DVD Studio Pro 4.2.2

I cannot duplicate dvds made with DVD Studio Pro. I could with my prior version but since upgrading, I am unable to. The duplicator says: Source and target size mismatch - or something like that. I have seen only one other complaint about this and they said to burn the dvd to the hard disc and copy from there. This did not work. Same error message comes up on the duplicator. I can't burn all these dvds one at a time!!!!! Any solutions out there?

    Welcome to the discussions.
It is also good to include as much information about what you are using to help others see if they can be of assistance. I know it can be frustrating trying to finish up and something goes wrong. Some days many people reply, other times, such as the problem I have with connecting to background process after the last quick update, hardly anyone replies. I hope that someone might be able to offer assistance.
You say you have 4.2.2, not 4.1.2? I have not seen that update, is it for an intel model? I am still using a Dual G4 1.42 with 4.1.2.
Which duplicator are you using? It would be good to include that so those using that brand/model can replay.
Is the DVD you recorded on and the ones used for duplications the same brand/size/type?
While I know this can take a while, in a pinch, such as not, just keep DVDSP fired up and feeding your DVD burner.
I only have to do 6 to 8 copies at a time so I use my DVD burner from DVDSP or save the DVD as a disk image using Toast Titanium 8 and opened it in toast to duplicate via the DVD burner.
Please reply with more information and hopefully others can offer more help.

  • How to recover old Back ups made with time machine?

After a recovery with time machine to a very early back up, it completly deleted my old back ups from my back up drive? I had almost everything there. how can i get it back? is there any way?

    Hi Patsmith7,
i think I understand what you're asking. You'd like to move the current Time Machine backup to a new HD so that it will never be written over as you continue to use the current HD where the data resides. If that is correct, then just follow the below link which will show you a very simple way of accomplishing this.
If you only want to move a specific date then you will have to follow the same instructions in the link but click on the drop down arrow on the current backup which will show you each instance (date) of the backups. Grab the date that you're interested in and complete the move as instructed in the link to the new HD.

  • How can I download songs i made with my ipod on my pc ?

How can I download songs i made with my ipod on my pc, i tried to share them with iTunes but it never worked i don't know where the file goes and iTunes doesn't seem to have the file...

Many thanks Illaass for your help. Everyhing was perfect till I selected "iMovie" in the list of Apps on the left and NOTHING (no file) appeared in the box on the right.
I can watch the whole movie in my iPod (from inside the application) perfectly, and in fact is the only file I made with that app.
I already have it in my "Camera Roll", too. And I can watch it perfectly from there, too.
Another thing that perhaps you must know is that I tried to "export" it from the app, and a pop up said "Unable to Export - This project contains video clips which have been deleted from your photo library."
Pleeease help me! I need to get that video out of my iPod!

  • How to export a short  film made with still images without loosing quality?

    Hi,
I have been trying everything to make a short film, which is made with still images, to look decent once exported however it is a real challenge. Here are the steps I have undertaken:
1- I prepare the photographs and give them the aspect ration of 720p and whatever height as I try not to crop them too much at 300dpi. They look great in photoshop or capture one. I then save them as.tiff. All the images are RGB.
2- I start a new project in premiere pro cs4 and make it DV Pal 25fps.
3-I import the images and place them on the timeline. If they are a bit too big I rescale them. The images seem to look ok on the timeline although I seem to have lost the deepness of the colours.
    4-I render the work area
5-I export it as quicktime, dv pal, quality 100.
My dilemna is that although exporting with quicktime, dv pal, quality 100 seems to give me the best quality compared to using quicktime animation, mpeg2, cinemak, avi..., the images are still not as sharp as in Photoshop and the colours look a lot paler and washed out. Also, when looking close to the screens you can see tiny squares on the images although from distance it's not too bad. When I view it from the exported file using Nero it's not too bad although definitely not perfect, as soon as I try to make a DVD and import it in Adobe Encore CS4 or send it by Dynamic Link, the quality looks horrible with images that look soft if not blurred and completely washed out.
I have now tried about t bu15 versions to see what 's the best I still have not reached the optimum quality and since these will be shown on big tvs or projected onto screens I need to nail it.
Would anybody have any advice please please please?
    Many Thanks

My overall advice is to do that kind of work in an application that is designed for that.  Give Photodex Proshow Producer trial a crack at it.  I do a lot of work with stills, and that IMO PSP is the best approach.  If you are intermixing the odd still, Pr may get you by.  If you plan on doing a lot of that, try proshow, where the workflow and extensive features are designed for making high quality videos from stills that can be output to a wide number of formats and destinations, including color management with many of them( including avi).  And, no need to resize.  I know this won't solve your present problem.
Obviously, your attempt in Pr has not worked out as you had hoped. Maybe a bit more info would help. How are you rescaling them in Pr? That might well account for some quality loss. What is the original format and size of the images? What color management are you using in PS? Are you using any color correction or effects in Pr? Is your project interlaced or progressive?
From your description,  you are not even getting the quality you should be getting from Pr IMO, though as Jim says, it is video and it will never look as pristine as it does in PS, but it still seems to me that something you are doing has degraded the work more than normally would be expected.

  • Why am I getting wavy, distorted video on a DVD made with iDVD?

I made a DVD with iDVD 5 that has wavy, distorted video. It is watchable but you can clearly see that vertical lines are somewhat wavy whenever the camera pans across the scene. An up-down pan doesn’t distort the horizontal lines, however.
The source video file doesn't display this waviness. Also, I created a DVD of the same video using a PC and the resultant DVD didn't display the waviness. The waviness occurs whether the DVD is played on the computer or a TV monitor with a standalone DVD player. From all this I conclude that it has to be a consequence of the iDVD5 burning process.
Here’s some additional information: The PC burned the video from its original MPEG-2 format. The Mac burned the video from a .mov file that I created from the original MPEG-2 file using MPEG Streamclip. (I need to use MPEG Streamclip to restore (actually convert, I suppose) the audio as the source file has AC3 audio that doesn’t play in iMovie or Quicktime.) The resulting .mov file - when played with Quicktime before burning - does not exhibit the waviness, so I don't think the MPEG Streamclip conversion process is at fault.
On the same DVD I also placed a different video from the same source. It doesn’t display any of the waviness that I get from the other video. The only difference between the videos is that this latter video – after the MPEG Streamclip processing - was chaptered in iMovie HD and then exported to iDVD as a .mov file. I’d hate to think that I have to run every video through iMovie to eliminate the waviness.
So is this just an inexplicable defect or is there something that I might do differently to avoid the waviness that I’m getting in this video?
    Thanks, Robert
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Robert,
To me, the red flag is that you've created a .mov file from Quicktime for import back into iDVD. A .mov file is generally a smaller formatted movie, typically only 320X240 pixels in size. This size movie, by default, would look perfect when played in QT. But, to go back to iDVD or iMovie, the movie must be expanded back to a 720X480 size movie (typically the DV stream that these programs want and need), so expanding will cause all sorts of distortion. Can you go back to your original MPEG2 source movie and get the movie info on it? You should be able to see the original size. If it is something like 640X480 or 720X480 then use QT to create a .DV file. This will maintain the original size.

  • How do I create Blu Ray Disc with DVD Studio Pro ?

Folks, I think that I'm in trouble... I created 3 HD projects with DSP (i do not have the tapes and fcp project anymore, neither the HDV 1080i mov file) and I need to be burned it with a Blu-Ray Media, and play it with a BR Player... So far I made the following steps:
1-) In FCP, I exported some Quicktime Movies with HDV 1080i60 codec (movie with chapters, menu bg movie, extras).
2-) In Compressor, I used the preset HD MPEG-2 19,0 MBPS for videos, and Dolby digital professional 2.0 for audios.
3-) In DSP I created a HD DVD Project (DISC window, GENERAL tab, DVD STANDARD = HD DVD; DISC WINDOW, DISC/VOLUME tab, DISC MEDIA = BLUE LASER, LAYER OPTION = OTP) with movies, extras, menus...
4-) In ADVANCE BURN (under FILE MENU) I chose BUILD.
5-) Now I got a HVDVD_TS folder, with my movie compilation...
NOW, my doubt is... The folder HVDVD_TS can be burned on a BR Media and be played on a BR Player ?
If not, what can I do with my HVDVD_TS folders to be compatible with Blu Ray ?
thanks a lot for any help.
    Best Regards
    Marcelo

That can't be done. Get the tapes back and start over. Get the new Toast in the tutorial I posted to make a Blu ray disc.
You could try this tool to demux the streams, transcode to QT then re-encode for Blu Ray but I wouldn't go that direction unless you know what your doing. You would also be encoding twice which is not good.
Get the original source back and go the toast route from the start.

If you're referring to last year's transition from .Mac to MobileMe, your iWeb websites are still available at the same URLs and have also been given a new URL at (www.me.com). For example, (web.mac.com/emily_parker/) will work as will (web.me.com/emily_parker)

  • HT202879 How can I open a file made with old version of Pages (before 09)?

I need to open a file made with old version of Pages (before 09).  How can I do this?  I only have iworks Pages free with Mac Book Pro.

You need either Pages '09 or the original Pages '08? programs.
With Pages '09 you simply open it and it accurate converts it to Pages '09. Pages 5 will open the Pages '09 version but may alter/damage the file.
With Pages '08 you Export it to Word .doc/.docx with mixed results, then open that in Pages 5 which may alter/damage the file.

  • DVD made with iDVD not playing in DVD players

I have a iMac G5 and iDVD 4. I use FCP to edit. I have made many DVDs from exporting my sequences to quicktime. Then I import that export into iDVD, and this has always been fine. For some reason, my latest project will only play on my computer using this method, not any of my 3 DVD players. What could be causing this? Did I change a setting I'm unaware of? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I've watsed a good many blank DVDs from this glitch. Thank you!

I have a similar problem having to do with the menu.
I have a client who needs dvds burned with their logo as a background. When I import a tiff (or any other format) into iDVD4.0.1 on the simplest template available (brushed metal 2) everything burns fine, the disk plays on a computer, but on commercial dvd deck it freezes when you hit play (one unit indicates "pause" on the display). If I remove the graphic from the background, and burn that to disk
    , it plays fine.
The iDVD help says you can drag your own photos to a menu, so if this is causing a problem, they certainly aren't aware of it. What bugs me, is why isn't there a "blank" template (or is there one that I've missed)?
BTW this has also happened to me at work two years ago with an earlier version of iDVD. Yet it doesn't happen on my client's version of iDVD (I have a call in to see what version they have). And who do you call when Apple only refers you to forums?
Thanks for any info, and please excuse any ignorance on my part.

  • How can I avoid losing purchases made with an old Apple ID when I authorize my MacBook Pro under my current Apple ID?

I am very confused!!  When I first used iTunes, I did not own any Apple products.  When I purchased my MacBook Pro and a Mobile Me subscription a few years ago, my email address @me.com became my new Apple ID.  I subsequently purchased an iPhone 3 and eventually an iPhone 4.  Apparently over this time, I have used both Apple IDs at various times.  Sometimes when I upgrade apps, the old ID will already be filled in and other times the new one will be instead.  I always use whichever one is there with the appropriate password.  This was probably a mistake.  I just realized that my MBPro is authorized under the original Apple ID and not the current one.  I tried to authorize it under the current Apple ID, but couldn't, so I was going to deauthorize it from the old one, but got a message about losing any purchases made with the original Apple ID.  I don't want that to happen.  Synching my iPhone in iTunes with my computer has been much more confusing since I got my newer iPhone. However, I don't remember anything about the process I went through to associate it with my iTunes account.  Any helpful suggestions are appreciated.

Log into the store using the old Apple ID to re-download them, however, you can not switch them into your current Apple ID except by re-purchasing. You can contact Apple support and see if they are able to help you.

  • How to fix faux subscripts/superscripts made with baseline shifts

    Hello all.
There is a script on the forums used to convert locally formatted styles to character styles – Preserve Local Formatting script and CS4
It is a brilliant script, but as I have unexpectedly found out (and would have found out if I read the post in more detail) is that any "faked" sub/superscripts created with baseline shifts won't work. To quote the other thread:
The script searches for attributes such as "superscript", "subscript", "small capitals". If small caps are faked in the document with capitals in a smaller font, the script will not find them. If superscript or subscript are faked in the document with a smaller font size and some baseline shift, the script will not find them.
Initially I didn't think this would ever be a problem... I thought "who the hell would make a subscript or superscript like that? wouldn't they just click the subscript or superscript buttons?"... unfortunately, no!
I thought a solution would be to make a GREP that could be added to a findchangebylist script that ships with InDesign. First thing to do would be to create a GREP to look for any positive baseline shift and change it to superscript; and a GREP to search for any negative baseline shift and change it to a subscript. Sounds simple... until I tried to implement it, as the dialog won't take a + or - by itself... it has to be a proper value.
Has anyone else faced this issue, and if so, what was the solution/outcome?
    Colin

@Rob: Perhaps I should have given some background for what I was trying to do.
I have a client who is importing dozens of pages of simple chemical equations from microsoft word and it is in the word file that the baseline shift method of creating subs/supers was done. What my client wanted to do was import the text without losing important appearance details such as this, and bolds/italics, but then be able to assign his own paragraph styles without faux sub/supers returning to a regular style. My procedure to the client was to:
    Import said word file into indesign file that contains appropriate paragraph/character styles to be applied;
Run the default "findchangebylist.jsx" to remove any double spaces, tabs etc.
Run a modification of Jongware's "preptext" script that will apply to all text frames rather than the current text frame.
This was working well until we both noticed H2SO4 did not have the numbers as subs, even though the word file clearly did. Closer inspection on the word file showed that the subscript button was not toggled, but the baseline shift had been, hence why the preptext script had missed a key piece of formatting.
With the preptext script, items that had subscript and superscript locally applied to the text would now be assigned "Sub" and "Super" character styles, and from there I agree - the more discerning typesetter could to into the character style and make the apperance of the said subs/supers more appealing. I believe a way of using the opentype subs/supers would be to replace the words SUBSCRIPT and SUPERSCRIPT in the said script to be OT_SUBSCRIPT or OT_SUPERSCRIPT respectively, provided an opentype font was being used for the formatting.
So in this instance, this script serves a rather specific purpose of fixing this particular document, rather than being applicable on a wider scale.
It is also important for anyone working with epubs to note that subs/supers made with baseline shifts (whether applied as character styles or not) will not appear in the resulting epub. Subs/supers made with the subscript/superscript buttons (again, whether applied as a character style or not) will appear in a resulting epub, so this is another consideration (I don't know if this is true if a customised CSS has been applied, but for straight export to epub from InDesign, it appears to be the case). This can be said for other forms of faux styles, such as skewing type to make a faux italic.
@Peter: I agree, there isn't a perfect solution, but for the situation that I have, the script does what it is intended to do.
It should be noted for readers of this post that this script is specifically purpose-driven, and that I would not use this script if a document contained:
    fractions made using baseline shifts;
    character or paragraph formatting that used baseline shifts;
