How to recover a library from a laptop that doesn't work

My laptop died(my brother in law spilled cola on it). I have a new one but I don't know how to recover my library from the old one:( it doesn't start,the GeekSquad told me the motherboard is the problem(too expensive) but I can recover the library if I contact iTunes. So I was thinking to check the forum first,maybe somebody had the same problem.

If you have everything on an iPod, you can get it back from that, too.
I don't know if I would trust the Geek Squad person who said contact itunes.
iTunes store support will not help you with hardware!
Maybe someone else on the squad could get your entire itunes folder off the hard drive.

How to recover iTunes library from Time Machine on external drive

Dear Forumers,
I was not able to solve this problem, hence I decided to open this discussion.
Recently, I clean installed Yosemite so my new Mac is completely empty.
I have my time machine backup on my eternal hard drive and would like to restore only specific things - such as iTunes library.
How do I do it?
I can locate the iTunes app in the backup file in the external drive but that is just the app - I still don't know how to recover my playlists and songs.
Moreover, I do not have those songs in the Mac - previously they were in a separate organised folder created by me (inside the "music" folder) and iTunes used it.
Does iTunes have a copied library of this all?
Or do I have to copy this folder into Mac and then manually reopen all the songs and sort them into playlists?
Any advice?

If you put it in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there. How to Recover iTunes Library from improper back up

The story: My hard drive was failing. I panicked and backed up using SuperDuper to an external USB drive. Apparently my internal drive was already damaged enough that SuperDuper couldn't complete the back up. It got about 60 of 80 gigs. I ended up having to zero out the internal drive and reinstall all our software. I have pretty much all the critical files back (it's amazing how much useless junk winds up on computers,really) except the iTunes libraries for each user.
When I look at the external drive I can see the iTunes files for each of the four users on the system. The problem is when I attempt to access the files, I get a message that says I'm not authorized.
I've got two questions:
1. Is there a way around this authorization thing? Some shareware or something?
2. If my kids dock up their iPods to charge them (the iPods still have the music on them) will the computer "sync" the iPod to the now empty library that's on the computer?

If the iPods are set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent an iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘ Apple) keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and it will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. You should then be able to change your settings: iTunes for Mac - Keyboard Shortcuts
Once the iPods are connected it might be a good idea to change them to manual updating at least until you have your library back in shape. The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different, you can get details here:

Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod

I'm willing to let everything go except for the photos and videos in the iphoto library. Are you suggesting that I use Migration Assistant to transfer data from the Time Machine backup? Will that result in duplication? Sorry, but I've no experience at all with Time Machine backups and don't know whether you can 'pick and choose' what to restore from the Time Machine using Migration Assistant.

If you have an external HD, you may try tun run a recovery tool instlled on this external device searching for keystring "index.xml"
With a bit of luck, it will retrieve an old copy of your document.
I hope that this time you will understand that working the way you did is playing with matches.
Whe you work on a document already saved once, duplicate the document before opening it and check that both copies are OK.
This way you will have at least a copy containg the datas from the 25 first day.
During the working session, don't save with the name of the opened doc, save vert ten minutes with different names.
Doing that you will recover at least the copy which you opened.

I've been in the same situation once.
Here's what I did:
Went to Staples and bought an external hard drive enclosure.
Took the hard drive out of the dead computer then installed it in the enclosure.
From there I hooked it up to a working computer via usb port then copied the files that I needed from it.
Assuming that your hard drive is not dead/toasted, then you can recover the data you need through this procedure.
