How do I flag this computer with you in case someone tries to bring it in for service?

EMDAVIS, I just went through this.  Report it stolen through the proper police.  Then have the police call them call Apple with the Police report and request that the Serial number is taged.  The local detective here said it took 3 phone calls. It also helped that I used iCloud to wipe the computer so the person who has it now may need service.  Good luck EMDAVIS.  Sorry for your loss!

I have a Macbook Pro that was slowing down. The HD was nearly full as I do a video work. I removed over 400gb of photos and video and it made no difference. I ran disk inventory x and that says that there is only 60gb on the hard drive but disk utility says there is still 430gb on the HD. How do I remove what DU says is still there.
    Thanks

You may notice a difference in available space statistics between Disk Utility, Finder, and Get Info inspectors. This is expected and can be safely ignored. The Finder displays the available space on the disk without accounting for the local snapshots, because local snapshots will surrender their disk space if needed.

If you are referring to the first generation Apple TV, then you cannot sync content which is stored on its hard drive back to iTunes.

What To Do If Your iDevice Is Lost Or Stolen
If you activated Find My Phone before it was lost or stolen, you can track it only if Wi-Fi is enabled on the device. What you cannot do is track your device using a serial number or other identifying number. You cannot expect Apple or anyone else to find your device for you. You cannot recover your loss unless you insure your device for such loss. It is not covered by your warranty.
If your iPhone, iPod, iPod Touch, or iPad is lost or stolen what do you do? There are things you should have done in advance - before you lost it or it was stolen - and some things to do after the fact. Here are some suggestions:

  • How do I get support service for my MacBook Pro that was purchased in the U.S. if I'm traveling internationally?

My MacBook Pro (purchased August 2010) crashed at the beginning of a 2 month trip in India. Whenever I turn it on, I get either a grey screen or the apple logo and then a message telling me to restart my comp (this happens when I try to boot from the disc).  I've done everything short of cracking the case open to reposition the HD, and that's only becuase I can't get my hands on a adequately sized screwdriver.
Any thoughts?  How do I get my computer services while in India? I'd be okay with shipping, but I can't even get a hold of apple without spending an astronomical amount in cell-phone fees.  Help?

If this happens when you try to start from the installer DVD, then you have a hardware problem. Getting it repaired in India probably isn't easy to do. You could arrange with Apple to ship back to the US, but you would need to arrange with AppleCare for that.
    You might try Apple's India support numbers: (91) 1800 4250 744 or (91) 80-4140-9000.

  • Is there any way to make a snow leopard partition on an early 2011 MacBook Pro that was upgraded to Lion, without the original boot disk?

So I have an early 2011 MacBook pro,  I believe it shipped with snow leopard originally, as I purchased and upgraded to Lion fairly early on.  I am trying to make a partition right now and have it run snow leopard so I can use programs that have PowerPC.
I should note, I replaced both the RAM and the harddrive in my Macbook pro.  I changed from 4 GB of ram (that came shipped) to 8 GB of ram from a 3rd party, that I installed on my own months ago, have registered in the computer and have been working fine for quite some time now.
Also I should note I replaced my harddrive.  I went from what ever the standard 500 GB harddrive that shipped with 15 inch early 2011 MB pro's.  I now have a 3rd party SSD that's 240GB's that I also installed on my own, (at the same time as the RAM---Black friday items)  The harddrive has been working just fine since then.
In installing the harddrive I borrowed a friends external harddrive and used a program called carbon copy cloner to get everything over to the SSD.
Now here is my issue.  I have ordered the Snow Leopard (10.6.3) install disks from apple, I have created a partition on my SSD for snow leopard, but when I try to select the install disc for snow leopard at boot I get three beeps.
I know this issue has been posted elsewere but it said answered and the answer is no longer available.  I also am unsure if any of the RAM or Harddrive swapping could have been causing the issue.  I have the old harddrive and RAM still, but unfortunatley have no external harddrive anymore or money to afford one.
Is there any way I can install a partition that runs snow leopard on my early 2011 MB pro with what I have (new SSD, New RAM, Current version Lion running, no external drive, lack of original snow leopard disks [I lost them ] and the general 10.6.3 snow leopard boot disks).
Let me know If there is anything I can do.  I'm a now broke college student so i'd like to spend as little $$$$ as possible
*PS I should also note the DVD drive is working fine, it reads the disk, the disk is brand new, it plays DVD's fine and has never had any issues in the years i've used it for similar tasks*
sorry for the long drawn out post, I just wanted to include as much as possible from what I've seen other people have issues with

As the last post suggests, call Apple and order a replacement original disc for about $17.  They will ask you the model and serial numbers.
Your retail version of Snow Leopard OS 10.6.3 will not work on that Mac as it requires a minimum of OS X 10.6.7 to boot and operate.
Another alternative is to again borrow another Mac to install your retail Snow Leopard into an external HD or partition, upgrade it to 10.6.8 and then clone it back to a partition on your MBP.

  • How to reboot a macbook pro that stops at grey screen

My wife's macbook pro, 2010 circa, is not rebooting.  With three attempted power-ups she gets a grey screen with the Apple logo...

In answer to your question, have you tried using
    Disk Utility?
       1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
       2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
       3. Click the First Aid tab.
       4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
       5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
       6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
Then, if you can, reboot to your internal drive and repair permissions.

  • How to recover a Photoshop Image that was corrupted with 10.5.3

As so many people have faced loosing work because their images have been corrupt when saving across a network, I thought it would be a good idea to make a separate topic for this possible fix/recovery.
This will only work if you know the dimensions of your file in pixels and the number of channels in the image. Also all your layers will be lost, but as a last resort this is worth trying:
In Photoshop choose File > Open
    Change Enable to "All Documents"
Select the corrupt image you would like to recover
Change the format to "Photoshop Raw" and click OK
Now you need to enter the pixel dimensions for the image and enter the number of channels
then go ahead and open the image.
If you are lucky and have entered the correct dimensions there is a good chance you will now have a usable image open.
If you get the dimensions wrong or if the image is too badly corrupt you will probably be looking at a load of coloured lines, try a few more times with different dimensions and you may get something you can work with
    Good Luck

When a POP account is deleted from Mail Preferences Accounts, all the mail files locally cached are deleted. A warning splash screen comes up and tells you that, when you are deleting a POP account from Mail Preferences Accounts, and it asks you are you sure that you want to proceed deleting the account. If you had originally configured the account setup to leave downloaded messages on the server and to store drafts on the server, then recreating the account configuration in Mail Preferences Accounts would, I believe, get you back to normal. Otherwise, you may be needing to use some data recovery software, but after a week, it is likely that those deallocated blocks of hard disk, where your mail and important draft resided, have likely been overwritten and are now unrecoverable.
You may want to consider getting an IMAP account somewhere for the future, where deleting an account configuration from Mail Preferences Accounts does not affect mail stored on the IMAP server (or drafts, if you store drafts there, too). IMAP also has the added benefit of staying sync'ed between multiple computers, too. Some email providers are not too keen on them because then they have to provide storage space for customers above and beyond storage space for their new incoming unread mail; that's why they do POP.

  • How do I remove old applications from my new Macbook Pro that came over when the data on my iMac was migrated to the new computer.

How do I remove old applications from my new Macbook Pro that were part of the data that was migrated over from my older iMac?
    Thanks

If the applications were originally drag and drop installations you can simply drag them to the trash and empty. If they were installed by an installer there should be an uninstaller included. If you're not sure you should check with the software developer for instructions. In this case Google can be your friend.
