How to recover a microsoft word file?

hi, i have a microsoft word file saved at an usb memory device. after i worked on it, instead of clicking the eject icon, i just unpluged it my mistake! then, when i plug it and tried to open the file, the file is still there but what i've saved inside is all gone! could anybody help me to recovered the file, thanks alot!

Try this: In the top right corner of the menubar there's there's a spyglass icon which opens the Spotlight search. Since you lost a Word document it should end in .docx so type that in and press the Return key. A window will open and under its grey toolbar you should see Search: and after that at least one item: This Mac and perhaps several others. Select This Mac so Spotlight searches the entire hard drive for files ending in docx.
The list will probably be sorted by filename and if you know the name of your missing file that's great. If not, look just above the first file listed for Name. Now look over to the right for the column labeled Date Modified. You may need to scroll toward the right to find it. When you do, click on Date Modified to sort the list by date. Now find the most recently saved files for your missing document.
Note: You may need to search for .doc rather than .docx depending on how you save your documents.

You can even use the Pages app that is installed on your computer. Finally you can buy a license of Office for Mac and have Word, Excel, PowerPoint and if you want Outlook too.

    Hi,
    Here’s the URL:

The PDF looks great, but you can see that the Microsoft Word file is missing the header, footer and some information.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • How to delete unwanted microsoft word files...PLEASE!

I would love to know how to delete files in microsoft word that are saved under my documents. The only way I can delete a saved word documsnet is when it has ONLY been saved to the desktop, then I drag it to the trash. When it has been saved to my documents or on the harddrive anywhere, there is no way I can find to delete it. And since I want to clean up my word documents I need to delete the files I no longer use.
Does anyone know how to do this?
I know microsoft word is not an "apple software" but it did come on my mac, and when I had a PC (a compaq) it was easy to delete fiels I no longer used. So I thoguht the best way to get an answer for this would be to contact apple support.
Please someone answer, I have been trying to find this answer for months! Thanks!

Late post for the archives--another fix:
I'm guessing the problem is trying to use File | Open to bring up a window that shows files, and delete from there. This works in Windows, but not on the Mac (true for any program, not just Word).
On the Mac, you have to delete files from within the Finder (the equivalent of Windows Explorer). Go to the desktop and hit apple-N (cmd-N) to bring up a Finder window. Set it to Column View. Now you can browse to any location on your harddrive and drag a file to the trash.

Did you save over the 'old' file - and now you want to recover it? AFAIK, it can't be done - that's what "Save as..." is for.

Why Acrobat x professional is changing the text formatting specifically the font family  and the font size of the text in my pdf on exporting it to Microsoft word file format ?How should i stop Acrobat x professional from doing that so that i get an exactly same word file on exporting it from its pdf counterpart?

I was testing the preciseness & efficiency of Adobe acrobat x professional's doc conversion capabilities. As i have to take a document editing project in future which is going to need lot of pdf to word and vice versa conversions . What I did was I created a test word document converted into a pdf using a pdf maker in my word 2007 , Acrobat did convert the document from word to pdf keeping everything in the source file intact , However when i tried the other way round and attempted to convert the same pdf to word 2007 file format I lost my formatting ?So the font that I used to create the pdf are the ones taken from word 2007 which i believe is using the fonts that are installed in my computer. Any suggestions on how to preserve the formatting of the document after converting it from pdf to word file format?

  • How do I open a microsoft word file using Teststand 2010?

    Hi All,
I am currently using Teststand 2010. I need to do a simple task, at least I thought it was simple. I want to open a microsoft word file using Teststand 2010. I thought the using the "Call Executable" would be the first step, but I am not sure how to set it up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    WJ

    Hello,
You will actually need to use an ActiveX step to use Microsoft Word. I found this forum post with a similar question and an example. I opened the example and saved it to TestStand 2010 to reattach here.
Note: you will probably need to modify the "Open Document" step to make sure the FileName of the Word document matches the real file location.

how do i put microsoft word docs onto icloud so that i can transfer to my mac book

    Not really.
You can sign into iCloud.com from a web browser on your PC.
Open Pages and drag the Word document in or click the Gear on the top right and upload.
This will convert it to a Pages document. It will be accessible to you through iCloud and the Pages app on your iOS devices. You can always redownload the file from iCloud as a Word document.
As with any document conversion, this may alter the formatting.

  • Acrobat 8 doesn't list Microsoft Word files as supported file types

I have Acrobat 8.1.2 Professional running on Vista SP1 with Office 2007.
When I try to convert files to PDF from within Acrobat, no Microsoft Word files (neither .doc nor .docx) are recognized, and Word isn't an option in the list of file types.
HOWEVER, Excel and PowerPoint are listed, and the PDFMaker toolbar in Word works perfectly. So I can convert to PDF from within Word with the toolbar, just not in Acrobat from the Create PDF... button.
This is a critical problem for me, because I need to make PDFs of dozens or hundreds of files, and it will take me a long time to do each one manually from the PDFMaker toolbar.
Any thoughts? I hope someone's already encountered this and knows how to fix it!
    Thanks,
    Ben

I believe this is all normal.

  • How do you unzip a Word File on an older MAC mini?

How do you unzip a Word File on an older MAC mini?

On older Macs .docx files can look like a zip file. This is because they contain a proprietary form of XML compressed using ZIP.
If you have an older version of Office for Mac, i.e. Office 2004 which predates .docx format files, then you can install a free addon to allow it to import and export .docx files.

  • How do i get Microsoft Word on my laptop?

I need to know how to gwt microsoft word on my MacBook Pro. Please help me! I really dont want to have to pay. Please help me!

I really dont want to have to pay.
What you want is really immaterial.  You will have to pay for Microsoft Word.  If you obtain it without paying for it, you are breaking the law, not to mention potentially installing malware.  (It is a common ploy in the Mac world for malware to masquerade as pirated software.)
If you are okay with an alternative to Word, there are free options like OpenOffice and NeoOffice (easily found through Google or any other search engine).  They are not quite the same as Word, and do not have entirely Mac-like interfaces, but they're completely free and can open and edit Microsoft Word files.
Alternately, you could buy Pages from the App Store, which is Apple's word processor.  It's cheaper and simpler than Word, but quite capable, IMHO better than Word in some ways and can open Word files.

  • On iPad can I open a Microsoft word file with apple pages app?

On iPad, can I open a Microsoft word file with apple pages application?  If so how do I perform this activity?

Yes you can open Word files. If it is an email attachment you can simply tap and hold down on the icon and select "open in" and then select Pages - as long as you have the Pages app on the iPad.
Where is the file on your iPad or how do you want to move it to the iPad?

I have figured out how to use Object in Word to embed the SWF file and use the Control Box to activate it, however, like you when I convert to Acrobat PDF from the Word Add-in it does not embed the SWF in a playable format, although the object is there.  I can't seem to get any relevant properties using the Touch Up Object tool either.  I hope someone else has a clue.  Otherwise I recommend creating your word document with "empty" text boxes that the text will wrap around and then converting to PDF and once in Acrobat embed a Flash object using the Multimedia button.
