How to recover a zip archive?

Dear all,
I'm trying to open a zip archive I created but I've got the message "Error 1-Operation not permitted".
I don't know if it is corrupted or something else. It's an archive with 3 or 4 mov and wmv files on it.
Could you suggest me any name of software that can recover it? Or some trick to force the opening of it? I've tried system's Archive Utility, Stuffit...
Thanks in advance.

Can you email or FTP it to a Windows user you know? You could also use iDisk or MobilMe to do the same. The Windows user could extract/repair the archive and return it to you.

I guess in the event of lost archive logs during db recovery, you have to open RESETLOGS and say goodbye to some of the data.

There are serveral information missing in this posting and as a support personnel, I would like to find out more when I see postings like this.
    1. This person wants to "Test" his backup and recovery in NOARCHIVELOG mode.
    2. He/She did not say his database had already crashed or had a problem.
    3. He/She did not give any indication the kind of scenario he wants to recover from.
    4. He/She did not mention the state of his database at the time of he posting.
    5. He/She did not mention the Release of his Oracle Server or Platform.
    6. He/She did not mention the type of backup he already has in place (although provided later as Full COLD Backup). How "genuine" is the back?
    7. What actions has already been taken to attempt recovery.
In my support experience, I normally would go through a list of questions witht he use/client to get the full picture of the current status of the database before I give answers that would worsen situations, especially in a Disaster Recovery sitaution.
Personaly, I would suggest you have a look at the list above. One of the most important is number 3 (The Recovery Scenario), then number 4, number 6 and 7. Number 7 will determine the situation of your database. So, when you ask for SQL commands to use, there are different commands for different kind of recovery depending on what has gone wrong or what kind of file is damaged (Datafiles, Logfiles, Control Files, one tablespace, one table, entire database gone, etc).

  • Recovering damaged ZIP archive

I have a large (1.26GB) ZIP archive that I made some time ago and copied to DVD.
Now when I try and unarchive it using Archive Utility it says 'Unable to unarchive. Error 1 (Operation not permitted.)'.
Does anyone know how I can fix this?
I've looked online for ZIP archive repair software that runs on OS X but can find nothing.

I am trying to expand a Stuffit ZIP file I created of personal family images/information. I thought it was a good idea at the time (yes I could just shoot myself). All I did was compress it and it was saved on an external HD. Well sometime later (few months maybe years) I want to open it and use some info on it and I can't.
I found some help stuff on this site for logging into Terminal. I got this when using Terminal after prompting the Error 1 - Operation Not Permitted. Read below and PLEASE (yes, please) help me figure out. I've tried some things from the list but since I don't know what I am doing I need mac geek assistance. I am partial geek, hehe. Thank you!

    Hi,
Archive log files are the copies of redolog files. As redo log files are circularly overwritten, oracle generates archive log file of the corresponding redo logfiles being overwritten. So if you have a backup that dates back to 10 am in the morning and if your database creashed at 3 pm,you cannot use the redo log files alone as they have incomplete information. To completely recover the database upto 3 pm,you need archive log files generated between 10 am to 3 pm. In your case since you are missing one archive log file, you cannot perform complete recovery and hence would suffer data loss.

  • How do I zip, archive, distribute, whatever folders FREE?

How do I zip, archive, distribute, whatever folders FREE?

If you want a cross-platform tool, use jar.exe that comes with the JDK distribution.
    Usage: jar {ctxu}[vfm0M] [jar-file] [manifest-file] [-C dir] files ...
    Options:
    -c create new archive
-t list table of contents for archive
-x extract named (or all) files from archive
    -u update existing archive
-v generate verbose output on standard output
    -f specify archive file name
-m include manifest information from specified manifest file
-0 store only; use no ZIP compression
-M do not create a manifest file for the entries
-i generate index information for the specified jar files
-C change to the specified directory and include the following file
If any file is a directory then it is processed recursively.
The manifest file name and the archive file name needs to be specified
in the same order the 'm' and 'f' flags are specified.
Example 1: to archive two class files into an archive called classes.jar:
    jar cvf classes.jar Foo.class Bar.class
Example 2: use an existing manifest file 'mymanifest' and archive all the
files in the foo/ directory into 'classes.jar':
    jar cvfm classes.jar mymanifest -C foo/ .
Change to the directory where your classes are, and invoke the jar command as follows
    jar -cvf test.jar *
This will include all the path information for all folders(packages) in the current directory.

  • Salvage from Bad Zip Archive?

Is there any way to salvage the contents of a bad zip archive? I've got an archive of all of my AppleScripts in an archive that isn't unarchiving. The error message is saying, "Unable to unarchive "AppleScripts.zip" into "Desktop" (Error 2 - No such file or directory.)" Even if I can only recover some of the files, it will be better than nothing.
    iMac G5 20"   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Does zipinfo AppleScripts.zip give any information?
    How about file AppleScripts.zip ?
unzip -d <directory> AppleScripts.zip will let you unzip to a specified directory, in case the archive is trying to create a directory that it is not allowed to.
Also, xxd AppleScripts.zip | more will let you look at the binary data - in an archive I have, I see at the top:
    0000000: 504b 0304 1400 0800 0800 6f4e a332 0000 PK........oN.2..
    0000010: 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0800 1000 3239 ..............29
    0000020: 3762 2e70 6466 5558 0c00 ab62 c643 e281 7b.pdfUX...b.C..
and the end of the archive looks like an index to the files in the archive.
Hope that helps give some clues what is wrong.

There are other methodologies of scanning a HD
which involve data extraction, but loss of metadata is often the result if the directory is corrupt.
Metadata is the info on what the data IS.
Like having all your papers thrown in the air, its all there, but just a giant mess.
This is why you always always must have several external HD redundancies of your data.  One isnt enough, neither is two really.
