How to Recover an Excel File for Free
Check the Recycle Bin--if you've accidentally deleted the file, it should still be there unless you've emptied the bin, and you can click on the file and
recover it.
Use the Auto Recovery Pane when you open Excel. Review the document recovery pane. If Excel has managed to recover your file, it will show in a separate
pane on the left-hand side. Identify your document in the pane, then click on it and choose "Open" to open the recovered file.
Try manually repairing the file. Click on "File" in Excel 2003 or the "Office" button in
Excel 2007, then select "Open" and click on the arrow next to the "Open" button. Click on
"Open and Repair" and choose from two options: click on "Repair" if you want to try to completely recover the file, or click on "Extract
Data" if you previously tried Step 1 and it did not work.
Search for the file manually on your computer. When performing a system search (click "Start" and select "Search" in Windows XP and
Windows 2000, or press the "Windows" button and "F" key in Windows 7 and Vista), make sure you choose "Advanced Search Options" and then check the "System and hidden files" check box. You may be able to find your missing
or corrupted file using this search: double-click on the file name in the search results to open it.

Help: lost all of my data from my iphone 4 during the latest UPDATE received from Apple via the Settings Tab. Wondering if I should take it in to the Apple Store for help or there's no chance for recovery. Thanks.

Welcome to the Apple Community jjhill4j3.
If you kept an iCloud back up...
Navigate to Settings > General > Software Update and install any updates available.
Navigate to Settings > General > Reset > Erase all contents and settings on the device you want to restore.
When this completes and the Set-Up Assistant starts, choose "Restore from iCloud Backup" and enter your iCloud account and password. You will see the three most recent backups for each of the devices on which you enabled Backup. Choose which backup to restore from.

I recently updated the iOS on my ipad 3 and lost all my files in the process. How do I recover my lost files which were not previously backed up?

If you don't have them backed up somewhere, then there's little possibility of recovering them. There are some utilities that can in some cases recover an inadvertently-deleted photo, but I've found none that can recover photos or other data from an iPad that was erased as part of an iOS upgrade. You can do a web search for something like "iPhone photo recovery" and you'll find some utilities you can try.

I guess in the event of lost archive logs during db recovery, you have to open RESETLOGS and say goodbye to some of the data.

The procedure can differ depending which volume manager software you use, it this is the case. But basically, you should boot with an external media, like DVD or jumpstart server, mount the root partition and fix the /etc/passwd file, umount the partition and finally reboot.

I could recover the database and thank youGood. Now that you've put out the fire, you need to be finding out how it was you lost all of your redo and make a plan to prevent it from happening again. To that end ..
Let me guess .. since your redo logs were named something dot log, someone was doing some housekeeping and thought there'd be no harm in deleting a log file. Up until 10g, the default names for redo logs was *.rdo. Shortly after my first upgrade to 10g, with the default of *.log, I twice had to recover due to some SA reclaiming space by deleting "log" files. Since then I've continued to name by redo logs *.rdo.
And whether that was the cause or not, I hope you now see why it is strongly recommended that your multiplexed redo logs - the different members of each group - are as physically separate as possible. Ideally, they are on separate physical discs going through separate disk controllers. But at the very minimum they should be in separate directories to at the very least protect you from "rm *.log"

  • How to recover Excel file if not saved?

The situation is - an accountant in an Excel file deleted data and save the changes. Tell me how to restore the old data? And in general it possible?

I agree with your viewpoint as Excel autosave is limited to 3-10 minutes and generally it is hard to restore the old data via this method. But i do not agree with that you say it is no way to get the old data because a professional office excel recovery
tool can help get the previous excel easily. Take a random example http://drm-assistant.com/datarescue/restore-overwritten-word-excel-powerpoint-file.html

  • Recovering a lost file

I've been working on a Guitar Pro file for more than two months now, but today something happened which seems to have caused the file to become corrupt.
I'm using the Mac version of Guitar Pro, and there are still some bugs in the software which need to be ironed out. In addition, I'm using a little Mac Mini which isn't the most powerful thing around, and I'm running very low on storage space. Shortly before this happened, I got a message telling me my startup disc was almost full. Looking back, I should have restarted the machine there, but I didn't. I just clicked "ok" and kept working.
This is where things started going wrong. When I tried to paste something, Guitar Pro told me there was nothing on the clipboard, even though I'd just copied it. Thinking it must be because I was nearly out of memory, I quit the application and went to reopen it again.
Pow. Error message: "Unknown file. Loading aborted." I restarted the computer, but I still get the same message. The file is still there in the folder...but for its size, it says "Zero KB". Basically, the file has vanished.
So what I need to know is this: is there any way to recover the file, or restore my hard drive to how it was this morning? This means a lot to me, so if anyone can help at all I will be extremely grateful.

Hi Whirleygig and Welcome to Apple Discussions ...
Rule of thumb, never allow your hard drive to fall below 15% free hard drive space. Look at the bottom of any Finder window. It displays the amount of free space you have available.
As for the lost file. If you actually Save As a file, it would have the file name but since your Mini didn't allow you to go there, I have a feeling that file is lost. If you Saved the file and gave it a name, try Spotlight to see if it will show up there and the file size.
In order for your Mac Mini to get going again you need to move files off that drive as soon as possible. Either to an external drive, a flash drive, an iPod that has the "enable hard drive feature", back up to CD or DVD, or possibly to another Mac. The only way you're going to be able to keep the drive stable is to eliminate the extra load the drive has now. When you've accomplished this, run Disk Utility (Applications/Utilities) and Repair Disk Permissions.

  • How to recover corrupt USB files?

my USB flash drive stopped working today, when i try to verify it on disk utility, i get this message:
    ** /dev/disk1s1
can't open (no such file or directory)
error: filesystem verify or repair failed
i tried disk drill, wondershare, and stellar phoenix and none of them recognize my flash drive.
any advice on how to recover my files?

Here are the simple steps to repair data file in QuickBooks.
Step 1: Close the software as soon as you receive damaged data file error message.
Step 2: Now open the software. It will make a new Qbwin.log file.
Step 3: Click on the ‘Window’ option and then from the drop-down menu, click on ‘Close All’. Now go the ‘File’ option then from the drop-down menu, click on ‘Utilities’. A menu will appear.
Step 4: From that list select ‘Verify Data’. If QuickBooks reports that there is no issue it means your data is alright. On the other side, if you get a message saying “Your data has lost integrity” or “A data problem prevents QuickBooks from continuing” it
means your data is corrupted or has a structural issue. And in this case, you will have to run the Rebuild Data tool.
Step 5: Click on ‘Windows’ and select ‘Close All’ in order to close all the QuickBooks windows.
Step 6: To launch the Rebuild Data tool, click on ‘File’ and select ‘Utilities’. Now from the drop-down menu, go to ‘Rebuild Data’ option.
Step 7: Click on ‘OK’ and a pop-up will come warning you to take a backup of your file. It is recommended to create an entirely new backup file and don’t overwrite the existing file. To prevent overwriting, give a new name to the file when prompted.
Click 8: Wait for some time and let the Rebuild Data Utility finish the process. When completed, click on ‘OK’.
Step 9: Close the company file. Reopen the file to refresh the list.
Step 10: Select the company file and now to launch the file, click on ‘Open’.
Step 11: In order to verify if the data file is clean and is repaired, again run the Verify Data utility.
