How to recover from an "iTunes Library Damaged" error message?

When I looged on this morning, I recevied an error messages saying that my iTunes library was damaged. It asked if I wanted to save a "(DAMAGED)" version of the library. I said yes, and now iTunes comes up blank...no songs, no playlists, nothing. I have located the file marked (DAMAGED) but I can't figure out how to get my library to load up in iTunes with all my playlists, etc. Anyone help me...My iPods/iTunes for Dummies Book and The iTunes for Windows Book just aren't helping.
I don't want to hook my iPod up in fear of losing all my songs on it.
Anyone have ideas on how to fix this...hoping not to have to load all the songs 1 by 1, as that would hurt!

  • How do I fix an Itunes Library (Damaged) on a Mac with all current software and udates?

I have lost my main Itunes Library.  I have one now that came straight from the music in my phone.  All playlist are gone.  75 gigs of music are gone.  the only music availible to me is the music that was in my phone.  down to 15 gigs  I have found a file that says "Itunes Library (Damaged)" but I can't do anything with it.  Of course Mac wants $ to fix it.  Is there anything I can do to remedy this disaster?  Running Imac with OS X 10.8.2, Iphone 4 w/ios6  and original Ipad with all updates.  The Iphone seems normal but is missing all playlist.  It reorganized the music.  The Ipad has no music and over half the Apps have disappeared.
    HHHHHHHEEEEEEEELLLPPPPPP!   Please!

Assuming you have AVG then yes, a second patch has apparently been released to day which may resolve the issue. See this post for general advice.
If you don't see the .itl file extension then don't add it to the filename of the renamed file.
    iTunes Library 2012-09-22.itl > iTunes Library.itl
iTunes Library 2012-09-22 > iTunes Library
My advice has generally been aimed at Windows users, but if you have AVG on a Mac and that too suffers from this issue then it is worth nothing that at one point the iTunes Library on a Mac was stored without any extension. If you match the name of the empty library file you are replacing it should work.

  • ITunes Library.itl error message

I saw there was a new version of iTunes to download but did not select to down load yet. The next time I went to sinc my iPhone there is an error message.
"The file "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes."
The last time I got that error message iTunes had partially completed an upgrade, all I had to do was click on the upgrade icon on my desk top and it completed. Now I can't get into iTunes to click on the original "upgrade" button to get the process started.
Hmmm, did Apple just pass on a lemon upgrade?
How do I get into iTunes to complete the upgrade or do I have to uninstall and install iTunes all over again - thus losing my play list?!?

A couple of items to check.....
Instead of deleting the Videos/Podcasts/Party Shuffle lists, go to your Preferences and turn off the display for those items. That should eliminate them from reappearing within iTunes.
If that does not work, then your iTunes .pref file may be corrupt or read-only. Try resetting/rebuilding your .pref file. It may have gotten corrupted and is causing a strange save issue (big guess). Make a copy of this file and save it in case you need to restore it.

  • How can I connect to itunes store when error message -54 prevents connection?

The error message -54 is not defined properly or sufficiently, to attempt specific troubleshooting by the the user (not user friendly). Does anyone in the community have any experience with this error message? If so, how did you solve the issue? I suspect the impending migration to iCloud may hold the answer.

  • How I recovered from nVidia System Utility "Damaging" my K8N Neo2 Platinum

The posts I read said to reset CMOS and Reflash. Neither worked.  So here's what I did.
The first thing I tried was just reset the CMOS.  No go.  Then I wanted to re-flash, but my floppy wouldn't read.  So I did:
    1) With Power Supply Plugged into wall and turned on, reset the CMOS
    2) Turned off power supply and unplugged from wall.
    3) Removed CMOS battery
    4) Reinstalled CMOS battery
    5) Waited another minute for capacitors to fully flush any remaining charge
    6) Reflash BIOS
After that, 100% back to normal.
Now in reality, I'm thinking if I would have turned off/unplugged my power supply, and then reset CMOS via jumper, waited a minute, and rebooted then reflash, I'd be ok.  So you could simply the steps above and try that.  But those steps above worked 100%.
Hope this helps someone in the future!

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.

  • My computers hard drive has stoped working, how can I retrieve my Itunes library from my computer?

My computers hard drive has stoped working. How can I retrieve my itunes library? My back ups were on this hard drive as well.
When I brought my computer to be fixed they said they would retrieve photos and music and documents but loose my programs. That being said I am not sure if I will recover my music from itunes because it may fall under the program category. I support itunes by purchasing from itunes, but now i am in a position where i may loose years of purchassing music and it has me feeling a little bit sick to be honest...the stress this is causing is really big. DÙoes anyone have any experience with this type of problem?
    Help is appreciated, thank you.

If the data is recoverable from the drive then they should have recovered the entire iTunes folder which includes the library database. Restore this into the <User's Music> folder of a replacement system, install iTunes, and it should be as before.

  • How do I transfer my itunes library to a new computer from my iPhone. The old one no longer works.

How do I transfer my itunes library to a new computer from my iPhone. The old computer no longer works.

    You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

  • How can I copy mp3 files from my Itunes library to an SD card for use in a non-apple phone?

How can I copy mp3 files from my Itunes library to an SD card for use in a non-apple phone?  I can physically copy the tunes as mp3's but the phone does not seem to be able to play all of them.   Do I need to copy an entire album or can I just pick & choose individual songs?   The phone is question is an LG running who knows what for an operating system.

AAC is Advanced Audio Coding.  Basically it's a format that sounds better than MP3 but doesn't take up as much space as a lossless format (like you'd have on a CD).  More than likely you've had that encoding turned on when you ripped your music into itunes (it's the default encoder).  Therefore your LG phone won't play them.
You need to turn off the AAC format by going to the iTunes menu, Preferences, General (at the top), then clicking the "Import Preferences" button.  Change the AAC Encoder to MP3 Encoder.  After that you'll have to make MP3 copies of your songs by right clicking them and selecting "Create MP3 Version."  You'll get a copy of the song that should transfer to your SD card and have MP3 encoding.  Hopefully your phone will play that.
